Hi, sorry, I didn't respond to your last message. Yeah, holiday season: kids at home, guests, events - all that chaos. Plus my wifey's parents and her girlfriend stay at our place (what a mess!), I can't just show em my back and hide in the cinema room, haha.
I'm taking a break until January, it will be sorted out by then.
Merry Christmas!

And you might want to improve your grammar since you don't seem to know the difference between then and than.
If you were born in 1981 like you said, then why did you wait until this year to get MAL. You could've joined/signed up for MAL back in late 2000's or in 2010 like I did. Why didn't you join MAL some 20 years ago if you were a long time anime fan?
Also, I should disclose that I'm on the autism spectrum and yes my grammar is not perfect, so I want to let you know that. Unless you have something against the autistic/neurodivergent communities, then I'm going to have a problem with you.
Are you kidding or serious about Rapeman? I tried to watch it once as some other meme-anime, and found it unbearably dull. One of those that don't get a second chance lol.
Haha, true. Soul Eater is a bit outside my usual preferences, but its amazing opening sold me on it so easily. I really like the surreal imagery, though we'll see if it's worth the full 51 episodes. I'm expecting at least some sort of Madoka-like dark twist from it.
Cool Devices made it onto my list after someone mentioned it in the context of A Kite, which is still my favorite hentai. As for Ojiisan no Lamp, I probably just forgot to add it - fixed that now. Also moved Kono Sekai to my watching list. Thanks for the reminder.
Oh, that's an easy one. I posted something silly, like "we need more hardcore child smut in anime, arrrrgh", and it got recommended to me as "gender-swapped Utena". I noticed the BL tag, but since it was short and had an appealing art style, I figured, why not? I'm not a homophobe - just not particularly into that theme. But, uh, that definitely wasn't "gender-swapped Utena", lol.
By the way, I'm watching Mushishi now, and it somehow gets better and better. Not updating the list yet, will do that when I'm back home, maybe this weekend. Thanks!
Thank you for the warning, I'll remove Terra e then, for now. It was someone's rec *after* I watched some BL and asked for a more straight thing. Must be some misunderstanding.
As for Mushishi - yeah, I keep it in mind, just need some proper mood. Don't want to start it sleepy and fail the second attempt.
Your yesterday's recs were just brilliant, thank you very much.
Furiko - idk, probably added to the list based on someone's mention, and now my watching list turns into garbage as always, haha. Will tidy it up this weekend maybe. The dog movie - yes, need to check, thank you.
Very nice, thank you. I guess it was just not that famous among casuals back in the days, never heard about it before MAL. And when I first came to MAL, it scared me with its drawing style initially. I think I'm ready now, haha.
Check out Satoshi Kon's Perfect Blue and Paprika, too. I think you'd enjoy them. And Tokyo Godfathers might be his best. It has a Christmas/New Year theme with a quirky take of 3 Men and a Baby.
Ah, right, need to fix it. But what would you expect from a layman like me who calls Arcane an anime "for simplicity", haha. Sorry, just kidding, I know you pay attention to terminology.
By the way, I have some very specific request, maybe you know something good that fits. I want something showing spikes/thorns, chains and/or roses - such a specific element of dark romantism portrayals ("crown of thorns" etc), like in Utena, Mnemosyne, or, say, Arcane s2. Or maybe just general Gothic aesthetics, but in a more serious setting, not like Hellsing. Or the theme of torment, but not just some torture porn etc, must be something classy.
I just rewatched it. Not a big fan of discussing such experiences (and I typically leave my "notes on cuffs" for watched titles solely to not forget what is was all about there, haha). But still, here is what I feel about this movie.
It's not a tale of obsession, nor even a story of romance - more like a poem about a lone angel chasing a dream. She strides across stormy waters, untouchable, her gaze fixed solely on the guiding star in the heavens. For those who love her, all that remains is the quiet grace of following in her wake, knowing she scarcely remembers them, as her heart and soul are claimed by the horizon ahead.
I mean you can call it a pathological obsession, but I would rather call it a mission that dragged her through all the hardship of Japanese (cinema) history. The scene with rocket nods to that maybe.

And thank you for the links. But I can't find Tako ni Natta Okaasan, I'm afraid.
Will check the other two tonight, thank you.

By the way, have you seen this documentary? It somehow flew under my radar, but I think it's surprisingly good (if you're into the horror genre and cinema in general):

I missed the new Nosferatu premiere, so I've been rewatching old films while waiting for its release…
