Accidentally lost my comments while I was watching the episode. It's sad that Yuuri and Chito don't know what cheese is—Yuuri would adore it. Her whole character is sort of funny, since she loves food so much despite only tasting soup, artificially flavored MRE bars, and snow. Maybe there will be some real cheese when they find a higher level/more people...

"What's a god? Can you eat it?" No, Yuuri, that's blasphemous...but I approve. :3

"What if Chi is a god?" "You have to offer gods food." "Never mind lmao"
"No, son, you may not have your body pillow at the dinner table!"

One of the best episodes to me so far.
Enjoyed the directing they took, with all things that happened and the interpretations each person can take from them, besides the later part had some real charm to it!

I'm starting to feel like this probably would've been better as a movie but we'll see how it ends.

Every time I see an episode of this anime series, depression comes to me and my anxiety rises, but I appreciate the work done every time to pass certain messages.

To those who only make stupid pictures with smartphones in their lives, remember that those will remain after your death, if you want to be judged as intelligent people, stop making them. A friend's advice, then do as you wish.

I love how deep the anime goes with subjects like faith/religion from the perspective of someone who has almost no idea about what it is.

So the year is probably 3230, huh? Seems like things changed quite a lot, and yet many things remained the same as it is in our days.

Those statues are weird and creepy! I almost felt like they were the old humans somehow frozen forever in that state or something..

Either way, the usual shenanigans between Chito and Yuu are fun as usual!

God I laughed so hard looking at that.

Those stone statues are creepy as fuck!

All that prep and she's stuck with the O face. haha

I love these long shots. The girls just seem more alone in such a vast and empty world.

I think the highlight in the episode for me is the afterlife talk. Each episode seem to have a theme about life. First episode has the girls leaving a long, dark corridor like how a baby leaves a mother's womb. Whatever happens after is the children learning about the world around them. Very interesting. It's really deep when you look at the episodes in that regard.

And finally:

This episode was fantastic. I love how they explore life and death using a concept like photography and in the second half, stone god statues. The first half was a little more subtle in its reflections of photos capturing a moment that will last forever, far after we are gone and segued into the second part fantastic.

The statue face looks weird!

Their picture is so cute!! Haha but they should take it on daytime not at night, but still it looks clear (in reality it should be not)

I think that's why you say cheese when taking picture because when you say it, your face looks smiling but in japanese becomes "o" face hahahaha

I like how the small gestures like when they were taking a photo are depicted. Also when Chi mentioned that afterlife is dark, and people created statutes and light to make them feel at ease. I think it may be relatable irl. Though the statues look quite creepy for me lol

Love their discussion with regards to pictures. It really cemented the truth that humans will eventually die, memories fade and the only thing that can prove your existence are your legacy.

The temple scene where yuu is looking for chi. It explains the very fact that man can't live literally alone.

Information comes in various forms. Some have practical uses, while others aren't useful in the slightest. Some are relevant to one's interest or matters at hand, while others are irrelevant and can be safely ignored. And, there are varying degrees to which these can exist with contradictory traits, or even change over time or as needed. History can be regarded as information, and such information can be as easily created as it can be lost or destroyed. To the girls, the history of the elevated city is somewhat interesting, but mostly meaningless. However, to the city's past inhabitants, its history and culture was assumedly important enough to construct religious statues throughout their enclosed world. There's absolutely a meaning to the labyrinthian streets, the winding power lines, and the towering buildings built upon layer upon layer of stratums, but if such meaning is deemed unimportant and useless for the only humans still remaining in the city, then is meaning itself worth rediscovering? Despite all the centuries of splendor, toil, warfare, and destruction, with no records left, there's seemingly no one left to remember humanity's legacy. As such, it's as if that legacy never existed to begin with.

With their camera, Chito and Yuuri can begin recording new information in addition to their diaries. This information details their traveling history via written text and images, and could potentially survive into the next age. For the girls, this information is useful to help them remember their own journey, as well as detail their journey to others. It's also relevant to them, as it's the tale of their own experiences. But, to a person a millennium down the line, their information may be neither useful nor relevant, and their history could be forgotten, much like that of the desolate, ancient city they're traveling through. There's no meaning to remembering, recording, or forgetting any of this, nor does there need to be. At the end, for both the viewer and the girls, it's at least potentially interesting if just for being mysterious.

Convenient that all those street lights are still working years, decades, or even centuries after this apocalyptic war happened. The power grid lighting them would be toast after a few days of being untended at most, so I guess they're actually powered by magic.

In this episode our duo encounter a temple and they talk about god, afterlife, the whole shebang. I like their view on it, Chii thinking that gods were made to show a much more beautiful life after death and not dwell on the darkness that is the reality, but then Yuu says that she was at ease even in the darkness when she realized that she was not alone.

From this we can say that religion was made because of fear of death and what may lie afterwards, that's why paradise/heaven and hell is so common among all the religions. Meanwhile I think Yuu's view on religion says a lot about the human nature to form groups to survive. We feel lonely when we are alone but together we are strong, we are then capable of doing great things.

Awww I thought the scene of both of them standing next to the camera was really really sweet, i think Chito kinda clocked how useful a camera would be as another exterior source of recording their journey besides writing, so taking a photo of herself and Yuuri felt like a really nice way of saying "we existed, this is our story".

Actually felt like we got a lot of world building this episode, finding out the city was actually built by a much older and more ancient civilization before being re-inhabited and then probably ravaged and abandoned more recently due to long period of war time, then the temple with depictions of a God deity and their interpretations of after life was all pretty interesting stuff.

The ending scene was also pretty funny, the girls bickering always seem funny and innocent to me in this setting that i can't help but smile.

Can the girls look through the pictures Kanazawa took?

3230.08.06.13.09

The POV action shot while Yuuri was spinning was pretty cool ngl. Where did the wrong thing come from? Her face did look like the worm tho ngl. Yuuri is still super fucking annoying to me. No color in the picture they took together. They saw god in the temple, but the god looked like Chi. I wonder why the temple is intact and how the lights turned on.

So was the new world caused by late stage capitalism? The girls couldn't recognize a plant or fish, had no clue what cheese or chocolate, or what a fruit was. Do they even know what animals are?
As a wise man once said, "No one hates anime more than anime fans"
