This episode tops all others.
Culmination of the series.
Maybe that is why the previous one was much weaker - to really strike us with this 10th episode.

Agreed. Best episode so far, and I'm willing to give 10/10 just thanks to this one.
Utterly brilliant in so many ways.

Also, does anyone know what is the OST when there is the "ball scene"?

This heartwarming episode confirms why this series is definitely one of the excellent shows out there.

I was really wondering at first why there's no animal head and just waited for it to come out when his disorder attacks.

But it turns out what I'm waiting for was already there since the start of the episode. Pure genius!!!

The twist at the end was beautiful. The music, flashback and the concept of passage of time were brilliantly done.

Really reminded me of my past years. It was touching indeed.

As usual, the cross-over of characters are well-weaved and so with animation style of the reporters with the cameras and flashes.

Also, Irabu and his wacky actions never ceased to amuse me. lol

^All this, I wonder if the last episode will be as good as this one.

Wow that was simply amazing. Now I wonder, what can the last episode bring us, hopefully some background info on Irabu.

One of the best anime episodes I've ever had the pleasure of watching.
There was something off with his age from the start, but the twist was just perfect.

Why couldn't all the episodes be like this one? This episode was way better than any of the previous ones. The only part that I didn't like, which is my issue with most comedies is that it went from serious to funny too quickly with Irabu grabbing the baseball killing the mood of the scene. Otherwise very solid episode.

Another "best episode yet" vote! Nicely done and I was too foolish to catch on to anything until it was fully revealed at the end. Good stuff!

A bit forced. How retiring will solve all yr problem. And how after retiring, he is seent in a different light by the journalists.

Anyway, the twist is pretty fantastic. He's an "animal" all along.

Does anyone have an idea of the song that was playing during the flashback? I absolutely loved it.

And I think I found it. Is it "Amazing Grace"?

I can't really give the excuse that previous ones were weaker because of this episode... But this was easily the best episode. I find this anime super unique but I can't get attached to the show itself. This episode at least boosted my rating above an average.

I hope the last one goes out with a bang!

I also really liked what they did with this episode. An emotional trip that went beyond everything so far.

No animal form, but a younger form, hmmm. "Weird, he didn't turn into an animal". Now that's some 4th wall breaking. The ball catching scene was great though.

But why "Nabeman"?

I was wondering why Irabu kept telling the owner to retire. Him being his young self in the future makes sense now.

I did not see that twist coming, even though I did think somethings were very suspicious. Guess I'll have to pay better attention.

I was initially confused as to what exactly his problem was but the end of the episode cleared it up, although I do feel a bit underwhelmed.

Irabu is definitely not a good doctor, even though the series presents his methods as alright since they work. He breaks confidentiality in this episode and in a few other episodes, along with generally enabling the worst tendencies in his patients.

Just adding my own "this is one of the best episode yet" comment.

死神

What do you think are the most important things in life? Money, dreams, sympathy towards others...

Yes, they're all important things as well... But the most important thing is responsibility for your own actions.

This is a really interesting episode, I quite like it for the twist. I've never heard of that disorder before.
Another well done conclusion, albeit a bit on the sadder side.

At first I was uncertain that I liked the opening line about Tanabe not turning into an animal. The idea of that actually being a legit result of the shot (even if Irabu & Mayumi are the only that noticed) wasn't something I liked even though I mostly decided to write it off as a weird fourth wall joke.

Turns out, it was only the first of a litany of hints to the episode's ultimate twist, which I thought was brilliant. I finally clued in when Irabu said he'd end up a depressed old man. I mentioned before that one element most episodes missed that episode 2 excelled at was the misdirect, the twist. This episode not only brought that element back, but it executed the best of the series (I'm assuming, maybe the finale will top it).

I still consider the boner episode to be the peak of the series, but this is a strong candidate for second best so far. The ending scene where Tanabe finally realizes is it beautifully composed, and the transition from his young delusion to his real age was expertly animated. And all this leads to a great punchline of Irabu stealing the ball, lol.

This episode was also excellent in the utilizing the show's style. The cardboard crowd was greatly utilized, whether it be them all stacking up for their paparazzi/journalism to poor Tanabe, but them losing the cardboard aesthetic as Tanabe figures things out as Desirio stated. I also loved the live-action backgrounds during the driving scene, that was great.

One episode left and they didn't tell us what the condition is this time. Will figuring that out be a part of the finale's narrative?

So, they finally acknowledge that the patients are supposed to actually turn into an animal. That's not just a stylization thing, but a physical effect on the characters. Interesting.

Otherwise, this was a very well done episode. I noticed his cane, and thought it was weird, but didn't really think about it until we got to the end of the story, and the transition happened. So many things in this episode just clicked. Clearly this whole series has done everything thus far on purpose. I'm looking forward to what we're going to end on.

I loved the scene of Tanabe reverting to an old man. I thought it was strange that he looked fairly young, despite growing up pre-WWII. As it turned out, his perception of time, and thus himself, was stuck in the past due to a combination of his PTSD, stress, and flashbacks. In a sense, his mind felt younger than his body, so while he could think, act, and perceive the world fairly well, his body couldn't keep up. That disconnect, coupled with increasingly severe panic attacks, could have killed him via heart attack or stroke had he not retired. Great episode.
