Digimon Tamers

Imagine Digimon Tamers' first arc with better animation and without the mandated toy tie-ins, and you'll basically have Dennou Coil. A group of children have secret adventures in a world where computer-generated artificial creatures interface with reality, and clash with the adults who want to regulate and control that world. While Dennou Coil lacks Tamers' monster battles and apocalyptic themes, both shows tackle psychological issues with the same respect for their child protagonists. In Dennou Coil as in Tamers, children are explored as full human beings, and neither show pulls it's punches when it comes to showing children going through bad things. Well the psychological themes are very similiar. Also, the final enemies in Digimon Tamers, the D-Reapers are VERY-VERY similiar to Angels in Evangelion. The last D-Reaper even has a mask like Lilith did and it's face evolved to a human's one just like Lilith's .. While Digimon Tamers isn't that sad, psychological and fucked up and is targeted more at kids than Evangelion then it's still clearly influenced by it. Also, in both series there is a company that is related to the D-Reapers/Angels. And some of the digimons in this series are based off the Evangelion mechas. (one of them even had that big wire thing coming out of it's back) read more 

Believe it or not, Devil Survivor 2 and Digimon Tamers are probably the closest anime in terms of similar themes you'll find. In both of the shows, creatures are appearing out of no where in Japan and causing havoc. In DS2, the ones who take care of these are the summoners, while in DT they are the tamers. In DS2 they use a variation of demons from folklore, stories and the such, while in Digimon Tamer it gets to the point where the enemies are based on folklore and legends as well. In DS2, you can almost consider the demons to be 'digital' as well as how they were effected by a virus in the system where in DT, it also occurs in and digimon is short for digitial monsters. There are plenty more similarities. The main difference between the two is the target audience. DT is aimed towards the younger and children while DS2 is more along the lines of teenagers.  read more 

Both have the same writer. Have similar phsychological concepts and have acid trip like cinematography. 

- creatures made by humans appear in the real world - main character is also creating a character, who is also getting real - main character fights against the "evil" creatures, because they wan't to destroy the real world (the world of their creators) 

It has the same theme - small magical beings turning into powerful creatures, fighting each other and leveling up/using special cards. Kids are their tamers and are the heroes of the anime. 

The stories revolve around a game that takes on a bigger meaning then just being a game. Real world friendships are formed and in the long run goals are formed as well. They also deal with digital worlds and getting away from reality, not to mention having abilities that can actually effect the real world in a positive or negative manner. 

Both anime got a 'kids and their cool pet' story. Both are subversive about it. They question the nature of these cool pets. Medabots is better at its exploration. The Medabots are a represntation of weaponry. What the Digimon represent isn't very clear. They both move from light-hearted to dark at the end. While Medabots is less convenient and weirder, Digimon Tamers has better character development. 

Both kids "monster tamer" classic anime, both have monsters that communicate with our heroes and speak the human language as opposed to your Pokemons or your Beyblades. So the monsters are sentient/intelligent in the most literal sense, in that they may often in fact be more competent and smart than their human counterparts. Both also have a wide range of their respective monsters, with lots of great designs! 

If Tamers isn't the only Evangelion inspired anime, GX too can be considered one. Both series tend to deconstruct their main theme which is monsters and cards to a level where it portrays it realistically. psychologically, and consequentially. Takato and Judai are both based on Shinji Ikari despite being a previous main character archetype and both have personal struggles to deal with despite having positive moments. 

Kids receive powerful monsters and start to live normal lives with them. Then the world burns because of this and their minds explode. Now they have a lot of adult problems. Narutaru is MUCH more mature, while Digimon Tamers has a child-friendly approach to the theme. 

Both later series of extremely popular kids anime franchises (Digimon & Yugioh). Both have two worlds a "real" world a secondary virtual world (the digital world & Vrains). Both have monsters and cards. Both have great character and monster designs with a large variety of new monster designs.  

Both Gundam 00 (TV Series) and Digimon Tamers are a deconstruction of their perspective series (Gundam 00 on mechas and Digimon Tamers on Digimon). In the movie, ELS is identical to that of D-Reapers and have an Evangelion esque feeling to it. The main char in both shows struggle emotionally. Body Count and Tolls in both shows make both shows dark and meaningful in many ways. 

I enjoyed both series and I love them.. 1. You know, Watanabe Kenji is the illustrator for both Digimon and Legendz and both series have connection with WiZ company 2. Both Digimon Tamers and Legendz start with slow tone, lighthearted, and more like slice of life series so that we can go more into the characters 3. Both started to be dark and edgier after the first-half and it's quite confusing and deep for kids show 4. Both series seem underrated, however they have epic story and characterization  

Figure 17 is almost a condensed version of Digimon Tamers, taking place in the countryside with less angst. There's a lot of similarities both thematic and characterwise, both are deconstructed children's shows where they try to capture a certain seriousness within the stereotypical children-as-heroes trope. 

Its another adventure with these characters in roughly hour long movie. With some new interesting characters and a decent story as well. 

If you enjoyed the darker, more disturbing episodes of Digimon Tamers, I highly recommend checking out Brigadoon. Both shows explore the bond of an innocent child and a non human creature from a different world, although Brigadoon tests the bond between the two perhaps even further than Digimon Tamers, with some truly disturbing and violent fights. Be warned, however, despite its cute art style, Brigadoon is anything but a kids show. The fights are intense, and humans and non human characters are killed on screen. If you enjoyed Digimon and want to see what it would be like in a brutally realistic setting, Brigadoon is a fantastic choice. read more 

Both are based off of video games, but they turn out to be real. 

These two shows are very similar, the only difference is that Onmyou Taisenki is about ancient Japanese mythology. 

If you want a movie-lenght feature condensing what's good about the more "isekai"-esque aspect from Digimon (the characters going to a place different from reality where they get their views of the world challenged), look no further than this movie, which is a remake of a 1980s film made long before the monster fighting franchise (and even before E.T., the classic unusual pet hollywood movie). I choose Digimon Tamers from all the series in the franchise to make the best comparison because both the Doraemon movie and that Digimon series -First spend a reasonable amount of time in the real world, letting us know the characters with more detail (unlike Digimon Adventure 1999, which starts almost exclusively in the otherwordly realm), placing a great emphasis and drama in hiding the creatures as they could end up in hands of the authorities. -When they do go to the place away from our own current reality (the dinosaur times in Doraemon, the Digiworld in Tamers), they do so in aid of a creature they became friends with (Piisuke in Doraemon, Culumon in Tamers). -They can't go back to their own place so easily, both works becoming a road adventure to reach a certain destination (Unlike Adventure 02, in which the kids go back and forth at their will, eliminating the stress factor), all the while the characthers change: Doraemon is more optimistic in their development and reaffirming of their friendships (like in Digimon Adventure), while Tamers gets a really cynical plot twist for one of their main leads and more complex questions about the legitimacy of their friendships. -During their travel, they are both chased by forces that overpower them, as they still are vulnerable kids: In Doraemon, they are chased by psychotic poachers who want the dinosaur for themselves, and in Tamers, the kids are chased by servants of a god who want them dead, for much more complex motives regarding cybernetic existentialism. -As in Adventure and Tamers, the Doraemon movie has an extremely heartwarming but tearjerking ending where the protagonists must say goodbye to the creatures they spent so much time together with, though the Doraemon movie's reveal is a logical conclusion the viewer can prepare for and shows the things the main lead has learnt throughout the journey, while those Digimon series' reveals come out of nowhere at the last second, making them more shocking than characther developing (you can consider it a spoiler, but I assure you the finale hits harder knowing what's coming). The Doraemon is ultimately a lighter take on the structure, while Tamers is the more complex but often contrived take on it. I recommend both, though I may remark that Nobita's Dinosaur is a two halves film which ends right after the protagonists come back from the past, while Digimon Tamers has a three act structure that shows as a last third the consequences and after effects of the kids having adventured into the "isekai" place, facing both trauma and a colossal threat, which makes, in my opinion, the best part of the show. read more 

Both are Mons anime which use the creatures as a way to take on psychological issues children can go through. In the case of the Pokemon movie, the struggles of a 4 year old girl so hurt by loneliness and abandonment she manifests a creature to represent her missing, idealized father. In the case of Tamers, Juri gets reminded of a tragic event on her past after a certain event. 

Arc V and Tamers have a lot of deconstruction going through in them making it not a kids show at all. Takato and Yuya have emotional struggle to deal with during the progress. I can't help but compare Guilmon to Odd Eyes. 

Both kids monster battling anime, both have a large cast of young heroes who must battle together against the forces of evil. While being slightly less popular than other iterations both Tamers and the Metal saga have become almost cult classic fan favourite generations of their respective franchises. 

Both shows have a kid friendly look to them, but they have a very dark story to them. They both have kids going into parallel worlds, ultimately leading up to immense existential threats. Fans of one would surely like the other. 

Both are a darker take of their respective franchises with realistic themes in a real world with fictional elements. Plus they are considered to be a deconstruction except that Fate/Zero takes it in a more mature way than Digimon Tamers. Both are well praised and received from viewers and critics alike.  

Both iconic kids shows from a similar era. Both belong to wider expansive franchises. Both involve child heroes, vast cast of different monsters and intense battles. 

Both series begin as your usual magical girl/mon show and flip the genre completely, getting progressively darker with themes and elements completely unexpected of the childrens show they initially appear to be. 

Both venture to the far limits of theoretical physics and utilize its weird phenomena combatively in the epic final battles. Both have "eco-fascist" main villains who have calculated that there are too many humans, and calmly launch plans to reduce their numbers. 

I have no idea Why havent this recommendatin made. These are the most similare shows. They fight whit monsters and use cards to power up the monsters. Story and characters are different but in these kind if shows its no big deal. 

Both started out as an adventure with the lead character fighting weekly monsters but eventually became a hero's emotional journey culminating in a final battle with the hidden enemy at a major metropolitan capital city. 

Some will say comparing Apples and Oranges is what comparing Pokemon and Digimon is like. However, I actually found Calumon and Jirachi to be very simular to each other character wise. Not to mention both stories drew me in. 

Well if you liked the fights in Digimon then you will love YuGiOh. It has action, comedy, drama. Well mostly comedy. well anyway I give a big recommendation to watch YuGiOh. You can also watch YuGiOh GX, it is the continuing of YuGiOh.So I strongly recommend YuGiOh. 

Both have some type of beasts, one has digital monsters as trusty side kicks, one has a shadow beast but both beasts are combat worthy yet friendly with a sense of humor Both have a simple (not so simple if you watch them but...) light vs darkness scenario Both have a "Friendship is power" feel to them Both have epic feel battles and great finales Both make the finales very very "all hope is lost" in one way or another 

Both are your monster fight of the day type shows aimed at little kids.

Both the third seasons of multi media giant kids anime franchises. Both more niche fandoms compared to their brethren super successes like Pokemon & Yugioh. Both have sentient/intelligent creatures who battle alongside the human heroes. Both have great character design, monster designs and tones. 

Both kids anime with lots of cute monsters! Both involve some kind of evolution/growth of these monsters with them then able to return to original smaller & cuter forms. Both have great OSTs with charming art styles. 

Both iconic kids monster battling anime that have major themes of friendship, companionship and courage. Tamers is more mature but the premise of both shows is very similar.  

Both iconic kids monster battling anime from a similar era. Both have talking intelligent monsters who converse with the human characters using the same human language.  

Both similarly popular iconic kids anime series. Both monster battling anime with great characters and world building. Both have great soundtracks, story & monster designs. Both part of wider franchises spanning many series, games, manga etc. with similar fan bases and target audience. 

Both anime take a dark twist on their respected genre. While Tamers is still more suitable for kids, it was still massively psychological especially for a digimon show. WIXOSS is more suited for an older audience and not only has cards in common with Tamers but also with shows like YuGiOh and Vanguard, yet is more focused on the characters than on the cardgame. 

Both are long anime about what parents pass on to their children and how people learn about themselves by taking care of creatures more vulnerable than them. 

Both have young kid heroes against the forces of darkness. Both monster battling classic kids anime. Both similar have themes and morality.
