Great, I'm familiar with Gsarthotegga hahaha. I've read halfway through it, and there actually isn't much reflection going on sadly. XD Perhaps that's towards the end. So far the story follow's the protagonist Manji's motive to kill 1000 bad guys, to atone for his killing of 100 good guys in the past. It's actually more centered towards the Deuteragonist, Rin, a little girl who made a graveside promise to her deceased parents. That she will kill the man who whacked them. Manji is accompanying her on her vendetta, as this benefits his motive. Yes! More bad guys to kill! xd Manji's sister died and Rin is like her substitute, as far as character dynamics go. She has a few encounters with her parent's killer, but can't bring herself to kill him. He's like Askellad from Vinland Saga to Rin. However his character is handled a bit differently. Enough about the story's plot, I got a bit carried away because It I thought it was pretty interesting that you thought Manji would do some existential reflections. In summary, it's more focused on just Manji being a badass samurai and exploring the philosophical dilemma of "what would you do if you encountered your parent's murderer?" That's a great concern making the protagonist Immortal! Manji can still feel pain and the process of healing is slower the greater the wound. For example, if you cut off his leg, someone would have to find his leg and connect it to him in a short amount of time. In the case that his cut off part is away from him for a long time, the process would be greatly slow. This happened to him and he was bed-ridden for a few days. You can also cut his head off and he's completely dead! Probably should've started by saying that... xd
Hey! I noticed it's my first time commenting on your profile. I hope everything is well with you. Is anything interesting going on? Have you read anything? I've just finished reading all four physical omnibuses of Blade of the Immortal that I own. As far as samurai manga goes, it's a goldie!
I agree with you about what the died of Kazuya don't have the much importance for the characteres, it's the greatest problem of Touch, the his parents of kazuya dont happend much.Touch before this was "10" after the Kazuya died I give the "9", after I returned with my 10 because the charactere Kashiwaba is very good, and the final eps of the anime beyond have a great direction and have very much catharsis.
Yeah, I haven't read it either, but I'm quite curious about it. I think I might have read some short stories from Miyazawa, but I don't remember now. Oh, no surprise with Giovanni's Island. It has sort of a similar vibe and even has the train scenes.
I'd say the same with Atsuko Fukushima, who is Morimoto's wife. I'd like to see the two work on a bigger project. She's even more sparse other than working with Morimoto, that Genius Party short she directed, or the occasional key animation role.
Dude! The Minky Momo OVA is by the same director-scriptwriter team that made Goshogun Time Etranger and the third Pokemon movie I was talking about the other day 🤯
I can't remember if Morimoto actually directed one of them. I thought he just animated a scene—I believe the one with the rugby match. It was not an overly experimental short or anything very vague. But what you're describing is most of Morimoto's work after he shifted more so from being a key animator to a director of various music videos and shorts.
Yup, that's the one. Did you read Miyazawa's book? A few others from him have also been adapted, which may or may not work. I think I've only seen Spring and Chaos, but not sure I'd recommend it for this.
Nope, you don't need anything outside of MAL. It's a MAL club. Just tell me if you want DVD or HDD instead, and I'll send you an invite.
I'm not very familiar with Minky Momo as a franchise. I've just seen that one OVA, and it's much less silly than it looks. The amount of comedy is also pretty light. It's a little slower and more introspective. Pretty strange given its appearance and being connected to a magical girl franchise. I was meaning to check the other OVA.
Ai Monogatari is worth watching as a whole and some of it is interesting, but it's really only the Hamasaki one that truly left an impression on me. Quite a number of others had nice art or production values and moments, though.
Hmm... have you seen Night on the Galactic Railroad? That probably has what you're looking for.
btw, I realize you seem to be exploring OVAs a good bit. Maybe you'd be interested in joining an 80s/90s OVA + gekiga manga club that's private at the moment? The interests of the group are fairly broad.
