Dark twist on a classic magical girls theme. 

Both animes has magical girls that exhibit especial powers. These two animes has both dark ambiance and they fight to survive. 

Magical girls with a dark twist. I find that both first episodes set the tone of the series without giving anything away. 

- Similar Title (Mahou Shoujo) - Similar Theme (Supernatural, Drama, Horror, Psychological) - Very Very Similar Main Character (Asagiri Aya and Akemi Homura) - If you miss Akemi Homura, just watch this 

Both shows attempt to show a more gruesome side to the magical girl genre, through the use of dark themes. While Madoka is generally more consistent with its shifts in tone, both shows explore limits beyond the classic tropes in the genre 

- Both are magical girls with a dark, messed up twist (basically unsugarcoating what being a magical girl is apparently). - Both have a pitiful main character (Homura Akemi and Aya Asagiri) who end up becoming magical girls. - Both have the world coming to an end. - Both have similar categories - horror, psychological, supernatural. Watch Madoka Magica if you'd prefer a less gory magical girls show, but still has the dark twist if you haven't already. Watch Mahou Shoujo Site if you have seen Madoka Magica and want another dark magical girls show. If you haven't seen either, I'd definitely recommend watching Madoka Magica first.

Becoming a magical girl is not all it's cracked up to be. 

Did you just watched the entire Madoka franchise and wish there was something more? Do you want to feel the same feelings over again but from a different series? Do you want to watch a magical girl anime that essentially has the same premise? Well, I might have just the right anime for you. I recommend to you this anime called "Magical Girl Site." Magical Girl Site is the anime you will get when you procure every idea that Madoka has to offer and make it 2000x more depressing, dark, irrational, and horrifying. I think that both significantly similar in terms of their character dynamics, setting, and premise. While the quality of both series is comparable, one finding either one better than the other, both are pretty entertaining nonetheless. If you loved the shock and horror that Madoka can provide, then I highly recommend this series to you. read more 

both are dark animes about magical girls. both involve having to fight to save either themselves or the world. if you liked madoka magica, you’d definitely like magical girl site! it’s very good for an underrated anime :) 

Both are serious majokko animes with heavy elements and sweet yuri couples. 

Both series show the darker side of being a magical girl. Madoka Magica mostly focusses on what happens after a magical girl gets her powers, while Magical Girl Site shows how the girls given their powers (sticks) lived unfortunate lives, thus Magical Girl Site sending them a stick for them to use, while decreasing their life span every time they use it as a consequence.  

Both are Magical girl anime which contai the psychological genre. Both look very cute but are very deep if you watch them further. 

These two animes are similar because they show groups of girls fated for horrible things. Even though there is a lot of darkness/sadness in these animes, there are a few moments of lightheartedness and sometimes a little comedy(?). Also, the character designs are really cute in both. 

perhaps mahou shoujo site gets isnt in the same level as madoka, both are basically the same thing: sad girls with great power being fooled in a world that would definitely murder everyone in the way

Both are extremely dark and depressing Magical Girl anime where it features death and killing. Both also feature some gore as well, so beware if you are not used to this. 

both have dark plots and have a diverse range of characters 

Both are animes that trick you into thinking it's cute but in reality, it's not, if you want an anime that is darker than Madoka Magica then Magical Girl Site is the way to start. Magical Girl Site is truly terrifying and is also very emotional. 

both are dark magical girl shows that feature magical girls in dangerous situations each dealing with their own troubles and both of these have a dark past about the world of magical girls  

Both about cutesy magical girls however both have dark twists and are more then they seem 

~ dark environment, dark people, everything is dark..very suffering. ~ the magical girls have to face for their survival.  

- Girls are turned into magical girls by a paranormal entity, with different abilities. - All face for their survival. - A weak girl makes an alliance with a girl who is willing to defend her. Both have a dark environment, showing the darkness of people, the history of suffering and despair of our girls in their attempt to be happy.  

Both are in the magical girl genre that has a dark theme to it. Along with that, they seem to follow a sort of "last person standing" idea. More characters are revealed in MahouIku as episodes progress as well as their powers and back stories to how they became magical girls. 

both anime have the magical girl powers granted by ominous/mysterious "online" entities they engage with (administrators behind a mysterious website vs admins behind a mysterious online "game") characters don't seem to be able to choose what their magical girl superpowers or weapons are, these seem to be mostly randomly decided for them, with some characters being very overpowered compared to others for no particular reason... although mahou shoujo site has an interesting twist on this doesn't exist in ikusei keikau. both lack significant plot structure or character development; most characters are defined only by their tragic backstories which are revealed at a pretty frequent and similar pace. very few of the (surviving) characters have had any character growth by the end of the anime, and the anime is not afraid to kill its characters off for almost any reason. very very few characters have plot armor. instead of any deep plot there is a lot of scenes of emotional or physical torture and violence that happens very rapidly, sometimes gratuitiously, under the simple guidance of the main premise. both are not afraid to and make a deliberate attempt to show fairly graphic gore, or at least implied heavy suffering. (this includes themes such as domestic violence, killing innocent animals, attempted rape, obsessive stalking, cutting/self harm and committing suicide. both shows dont share all the above, i'm just trying to give examples from both shows to give the idea of how explicit they are in their depictions of this subject matter) there is a contrast between sometimes very "cute" scenes and then something very dark happening often, either simultaneously, during a flashback, or immediately after the "cute" scenes. both have the magical girls being forced into or choosing to kill each other, either because they are manipulated into doing it by several various reasons, or because some of them simply have psychopathic character traits and tendencies. most of the characters, even the sanest ones, also suffer from some form of mental illness, have pre-existing trauma or develop trauma as a result of being a magical girl, or they fall into or come from a very tragic life circumstance. in both anime, the "main" or "first" magical girl in the ensemble cast is the weakest at fighting back, shyest, most weak willed etc and it takes a long time for this to change (magical girl site's weak MC actually has more character arc development than MSIK's MC which is...impressive given that neither has much) and both of them team up with another magical girl who they have deep friendship with and who helps them gain some confidence, as well as is stronger and better at being a magical girl, so they rely on this person to protect them. both shows tend to focus on the other characters just as much as the two "main" ones that are introduced in the first episodes and *some* of these characters are more conceptually interesting than the "main" ones. as i mentioned though, the majority of characters don't ever develop past their "concept": the ones that survive and have changes in their character by the end are the exceptions, and many characters die before they could even have a chance to have any character arc growth (if these were actually the type of shows to give them that). a lot of characters are most defined by their own deaths more than anything they did while they were alive, and how their deaths affect the other girls is often the main excuse to move the action forward and make the next shock or twist happen. additionally, some characters are deeply affected or changed by the deaths of other magical girls, whereas there are some characters who are not affected by the deaths in any way that changes their behavior at all. i would describe both shows as ensemble cast anime and within the ensemble, when they are not killing, betraying, or using psychological tactics on each other, they are forming strong alliances with each other or suddenly changing whose side of the battle they are on. both shows have clear themes of those girls trying to "follow the rules" of being a magical girl (no matter how f--ked up those mysterious rules are) vs those trying to "break the rules", or find out what the true mystery behind the dark administrators and bestowers of magical girl power is-- some characters will follow the rules no matter what, while others have a change of heart and thus a change of allies. some of the alliances make a lot of sense, while others do not make much sense at all and characters who should be enemies end up on the same side. "the enemy of the enemy is my friend" is certainly true but in the case of MSS some of the "alliances with former enemies" require more suspension of belief than in MSIK. both shows also have very clear but never main focused undertones of yuri/lgbtq, and at least 1 character (MSS has 1, MSIK has 2) that is heavily coded as being either into crossdressing/genderbending, or is meant to be trans or gay/lesbian. the coding remains somehow vague yet assertive in both cases so which of these labels you interpret them as exactly, comes down to the individual viewer. if you are into seeing these thematic concepts in an anime (which i am) and *IF YOU CAN STILL ENJOY AN ANIME* when if it focuses almost exclusively on showing you these concepts "play out" to tragic consequences, while it (mostly) ignores developing a cohesive, meaningful or original story, and does not have characters with much (or any) depth or development, then i would recommend both shows.  read more 

Simmilarities: 1.Both shows feature a cast of girls that get connected to the world of magic by some form of social media (for MSS its a website and for MSIK its a game app). 2.In both, there is a shitty antagonist that forces the cast to get onto each others tails, killing or eliminating them in other ways. 3.In both shows, there is slight yuri 4.There are many attractive styles shown through characters (in MSS there is menhera, in MSIK there is gothic lolita and a lot more) 5.Both shows are really edgy, dark and have intense scenes. If you are into these things like me then you will enjoy this for sure! A few differences : 1.In MSS the girls that become magical girls are all in middle or highschool while in MSIK the girls are from very young age of 6ish to adult females. 2.In MSS the girls don't have special transformations while in MSIK they have 3.In MSS the girls can use each others magical sticks and so their powers, and even people outside of the magical site can use them.But in MSIK only the choosen girls can use their own unique powers that are part of them basically. 4.While in MSS characters have life points and by using their stick they get closer to deah, in MSIK there is no such thing but if one girl fails to collect more candies than the others she gets disqualified, aka dies.Or gets killed. read more 

Both are very dark and depressing magical girl shows. 

Both are magical girls but with a dark and gore story and fight against each others.

Both contain middle school girls who have gone through/or are going through hard times, and are magical girls.  

"Is either kill or be killed" summaries both anime rather well. Both are extremely dark and depressing Magical Girl where everyone has to fight for their survival. Both also feature death. 

Both are dark magical girl-esque anime with hard-hitting themes like suicide, depression, and bullying, but each series has their own thing to say—Wonder Egg Priority faces those traumas head-on, while Mahou Shoujo Site confronts the perpetrators. Each character takes a turn in the spotlight, illuminating the various pains that come with adolescence. As emotions and ideals clash in battles with the paranormal, these beautiful yet horrifying anime are worth suffering for. 

In addition to both shows being magical girl/magical girl-esque shows with a predominantly female cast, they both deal with themes such as bullying, suicide and trauma, and in both shows, the main girls are granted powers by a mysterious entity with unclear motives. If you liked Mahou Shoujo Site and would like a less edgy/over-the-top approach to its themes, be sure to check out Wonder Egg Priority! 

Follows a young girl dealing with psychological problems as they form relationships with other people who deal with the same problem. The two focus more on their plot-driven aspects than the character-driven ones, meaning its characters might seem unreasonable sometimes, but its plot is quite good (not the best, just fine). I recommend these to anyone who highly enjoys psychological concepts. 

both about touchy subjects have a mixture of reality and fiction are both about magical girls with special weapons and are both phycological horrors  

They both explore the stories of „unfortunate”/bullied girls from middle/high school. These two series explore dark themes that have to do with suicide/self harm, while having a magic/supernatural element. They have very similar villains, that seem to be tricking the girls by misleading them into believing that their wishes are going to be granted, when in reality nothing good is going to come out of their meeting with the seemingly helpful antagonist. They both focus on girl on girl friendships, based on strong emotional bonds between depressed girls that didn't have many friends before. Few to none male characters. Classic magical girl vibe turned dark. Mahou shoujo site is definitely on the edgier side, while Wonder Egg Priority seems to be more serious and emotional.  read more 

Both are VERY psychological anime, dealing with lots of touchy subjects most anime, and even tv shows, refuse to go after. Scary. scary scary scary. These anime will leave you shivering in your boots wondering, whats next? If you enjoyed Magical girl Site, you will like Happy Sugar Life. and trust me, that anime is anything but its title suggests. 

If you want to watch this anime, you could have strong mental and good psychology. both anime has surprising line story and insane plot twist. 

Both are extremely twisted and dark with a very light, fluffy overlay. If you're looking for something cute and disturbing to satisfy you after finishing Happy Sugar Life, I think this is a perfect follow up.  

Do you love cute anime girls? Me too! Do you love cute anime girls so much that you want to see them suffer in a brutal, crapsack world that hates them? Weird, but I won't judge. Anyway, these shows should fit the bill - they're both equally and adorably twisted. 

Mahou Shoujo site manages to stick enough mundane dark stuff in a single episode to roughly match the level of all the mundane dark stuff in Elfen Lied. 

Both anime are really edgy and have MC's that don't think rationally.  

Are you an edgelord? Do you have a sick sense of humor and want to watch a show that is so ridiculously "dark" that it borders on unintentional comedy? If so, consider adding this one to your list... If you dare...  

Both shows focus heavily on the effect of bullying young children. The core of both shows is the pain and suffering young people have experienced. 

Both are exceptionally dark and depressing anime filled to the brim with evil and despicable characters and will overall give you the feeling like all the human filth have gathered in one place. Also both include an certain supernatural website. 

The girls on both show have the same design and they both become a "bit" crazy from time to time. The artwork of the "crazy" girls is the same. Dark ambient. And both have a lot of violence which to some people may be consider gratuitous.  

They say Let's defeat the Mahou Shoujo Site, the same way they say everything will end when the Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. Both are masterpieces. 

The biggest similiarity are the "magical" objects the protagonists receive and the ensuing "survival game". If you like to watch mentally deranged characters do horrifying stuff while looking cute, this one's also for you. However, unfortunately, "Magical Girl Site" does not have a yandere character - even though Yatsumura could have well become a lot more like Yuno if she went through the same events as her, so they're still similiar. Also, there are a lot of depressing themes in both anime, concerning bullying, suicide attempts and rape. 

Both are dark Magical Girl anime where Magical girls have to sacrifice themself every time they use their powers.  

The theme if just feel the first few episodes. seems similar with the anime. i liked both the anime. Since i love psychological anime. this is my cup of tea.  

They're both missing the comedy tag, although the characters in Ousama game aren't as one-dimensional and unbelievably unrealistic as the ones in Mahou Shoujo Site. If you like darker themes, magical girls, or unintentional comedy, I recommend this anime. I think it's entertaining in similar ways, the mystery they're trying to figure out, and the characters they meet along the way. 

The same character scenario where it involves girls with worldly issues in which of of the sudden they receive some kind of powers to get back at those who gave them such issues in the first place. Btw , that part with Asuka was for the antagonist.
