i rate anime within its own genre and based on the cultural time period it came out in as well. so a mahou shoujo anime from 1992 that i gave an 8 may not be the equal to a sci fi anime from 2010 that i gave an 8, even if i enjoyed both of them. comparing things as if everything is just "anime" or "good" or "bad" is very nebulous.

also, i've enjoyed some pretty questionable anime. so if i enjoyed it, it might have an extra point than it "deserves".
