A group of humans in seclusion who live in fear of a powerful race of monsters that they have managed to evade for a long time, who are suddenly forced back into combat with these creatures.
report Recommended by Lindle
They both deal with mysterious beings trying to destroy humanity, focus more on character development than mech battles, and are somewhat dark in nature.
report Recommended by An_Idea
Both have futuristic settings and deal with a form of alien that becomes more intelligent. Sidonia has a much better plot, which more actual story, but still includes action and surprises.

Both feature life in space on a huge ship, both have an ace pilot protagonist with several supporting female characters fancying him. Both offer powerful sci-fi storyline touching various sci-fi phylosophical questions. Note that Knights of Sydonia is dystopic, thriller seriers while Macross Frontier is utopic adventure.

Sidonia is what you were wishing for if you watched Muv-Luv and thought it could be so much better if it took its own material more seriously. Although with Sidonia you do lose the epic bodysuits, almost entirely female cast and more blunt harem elements. Its certainly worth watching if you want a more mature telling of what it might be like if humanity found itself pushed to the brink.

The animation is similar, if you enjoy this style then Knights of Sidonia will be the show for you. With humanity on the brink of extension, fighting a monster that is stronger there will be death and the one warrior who soars above saving humanity. Knights of Sidonia will offer a more complete and wholesome enjoyment that Blame couldn't give you.

Two anime that take place in the future, they are protecting the place were they live after the solar sistem was destroyed. In both anime the enemy is an alien race with huge tentacles. The animation is different, while in Gargantia we can use the word cute for the animation in Sidonia we can say it's simple. Also the Sidonia is more serious and should be guidance for the the rest of seinen category, while Gargantia is also there but has more the happy happy moments in it.

If you enjoyed Aldnoah.Zero this past season then it may be worth a look at Sidonia no Kishi. Both shows feature a predominantly mecha themed plot and have been made in the past year. Where as Aldnoah's story takes place almost exclusively on earth, Sidonia no Kishi takes place entirely in space. Though the two are very similar in the sci-fi mecha aspects they are also very different from one another. Unfortunately one of the main reasons people are put off by Sidonia no Kishi is because of the 3-dimensional art style compared to the much more common 2-dimensional style of Aldnoah. Though the art  read more

Aliens that threaten the existence of humanity (they also appear very similar in both) and the development of mechas to fend off against the aliens is present in both. The setting of both is similar and deals with top notch students training to become pilots of the mechas, who live in some sort of spaceship.

Both were made by Polygon Pictures and have the same 3D-CGI art style and animation. Art is similar to the point were its the same off white color theme with very similar wear and tear textures. Both have Mecha and have monsters threatening the human race where the human race have left earth. If you like Mecha, 3D-CGI, Polygon Pictures, and or fights that will determine the fate of humanity then both are good pick ups

Both having similar art style and vibe to the show, both great ones

Sidonia no Kishi is a poor man's Blue Gender. While Sidonia no Kishi has superiour animation, Blue Gender eclipses Sidonia no Kishi in all other aspects regarding visual narrative.

Humanity's existence put at risk. Both series features the theme of survival as humanity faces the threat of alien beings. There is a decent amount of action as humanity decides to fight back to survive. The main male protagonist becomes a prominent figure as they spearhead against the mysterious invaders. And speaking of mysterious, there is a lot of questions of thought regarding origins, the mecha, and even characters themselves. If you are seeking a sci-fi series with warfare themes taking place in the future, then be sure to give these two shows a try.

In Knights of Sidonia and Darling in the FranXX people protect a moving city from giant monsters (Gauna/Klaxosaurs) using mechs. Both anime are post apocalyptic. In the beginning of both shows there is a ceremony/first mission for the main team goes wrong and a Gauna/Klaxosaur attacks. There is a character in both shows who is pink/has pink hair who is a hybrid of monster and human, some people don't like them just because of this. There is a mysterious council of people who run society. There are some school scenes since a lot of the main chartacters are teenagers. A lot of the girls want  read more

Both are great sci-fis, one more focused on psychokinesis powers and one about mecha but still have lots of similarities. Both are in an enclosed society (Sidonia and SSY's utopian village) and have amazing world building that depicts their world well. Both are very serious shows, with the occasional "wtf" going on (in a good way) and both manage to pull off ethical and philosophical situations excellently.

As well as being CGI the MC are both underestimated in the beginning while Bubuki starts off slow it gets to the point where you can't help but be invested the characters are interesting and while both show involve mechs Bubuki has mech made from special weapons the characters use each character has their own way of doing things but always end up working together while also dealing with their pasts.

They are both in space. That is all you need to know.

Knights of Sidonia and Land of the Lustrous are both full 3D CGI adaptations of manga from Kodansha's monthly Afternoon magazine. Both shows are about a small society of people/gems who are under attack from light pink aliens (Gauna, Lunarians), and a select few people have to fight them off to defend society. At least one of the main characters is genderless in both shows, and some of the characters are basically immortal.

In Knights of Sidonia and Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress humanity is almost extinct. A man eating race has driven humanity out of it's home and a small group escape using a vehicle, Sidonia in Knights of Sidonia and the Koutetsujou in Kabaneri of the Iron Fortress. The only way to kill these creatures is to pierce their true hearts. There are also hybrids of the monsters and humanity. Both series also have a lot of political commentary in them.

Both are anime about a superior but primitive race, with terrifying human powers, which continues to evolve at an alarmingly fast pace, becoming smarter with each step taken, thus becoming a greater danger / terror to all mankind. . Against all those creatures. Both animes contain horror scenes full of action and suspense.

Aliens come to Earth to feed on humans. The main character in both series is a nobody, and slowly becomes overpowered and gains friends at their new school. There are characters who are part alien and part human. When the aliens eat humans, they are basically parasites. Humanity has not encountered these aliens for a really long time, and they have to fight them or they become their food. Both series have unique art and animation. The small group of humans who fight are a mixture of teenagers and adults. There is a fair amount of fanservice in both shows.

Giant shape-shifting monsters have all but eliminated humanity. The only way to kill the monsters is by using a specific weapon. In Knights of Sidonia humans and one personified bear live together on the spaceship Sidonia. In SukaSuka it is a bunch of personified animals and one human live together on floating islands above Earth. There are immortal characters in both series. Both shows have political commentary in them.

They can both be broadly categorized as "humanity vs. overwhelming biological force." Sidonia no Kishi takes place in outer space and has a much more dire atmosphere, while A.I.C.O. takes place on earth. The character CGI in Sidonia can be off putting at first, but the scenery has a wonderfully immersive sense of scale to it; I initially dropped Sidonia because of the less than stellar framerate + character designs, but I'm glad I picked it back up, as the story and setting makes it well worth the watch. A.I.C.O. on the other hand has very pretty character design (thanks Bones), above average animation (not  read more

Although at first sight, you may think this is crazy as a similar recommendation. Both MC's start at the bottom. Both MC's initially are seen as worthless and weak by comparison to others. Both MC's are irregular to the standard population. Both MC's climb to a position where they have friends. Both MC's have ultimately a love interest that is unobtainable in the long run that causes them to make deep set choices. Both MC's struggle with the interacts with people due to a lack of initial societal interactions.

While there are many differences between the two, they both feature a secret, and there is some slight similarity in the secrets (saying more would give too much away). There is another similarity, but telling you about it would also be a spoiler for one of them. I would also consider both of them required viewing.

Human vs Alien story, Mecha combat animated in 3DCGI. Humanity leaves the earth, very similar to Alternative V project. If you liked Alternative, surely you will have a good time with Sidonia no Kishi.

I'm surprised nobody has made this recommendation yet. We have a sci-fi world in the distant future, where humanity has been on the brink of extinction for long, thanks to creatures the humans have very little knowledge of. All that they know is that these creatures attack humans mercilessly, and that the must fight back in order to survive. Our dark haired MC, of course, is the key to saving humanity, which has survived this long by shutting itself off from the outside world. They also make use of tech that's made specially to kill these creatures in combat. You also get to witness completely unnecessary hints  read more

both anime feature an amorpheus species that chased humanity away from earth the motives of the aliens are assumedly the same during fights we often see the control station issueing orders and planning the next moves (other simularities are kinda spoiler material)

Similarities - Both MCs are outcasts of society because of their low 'skill' and affinity to adapt - Both series has clones (Misaka / Honoka) Differences - Sidonia takes place in space VS. Index takes place on earth-like planet - Sidonia takes place in the future VS. Index takes place in the 21st century - Sidonia is a action/mecha VS. Index is a action/magic

Compare to Sidonia no Kishi this anime is less intense but has the same plot. Safe the world, fighting enemies, and getting the girl. Very sweet and funny.

Lonesome boy stumbles into major conflict & discovers that he holds immense power. Shyness, confused main characters, fight sequences, & possible romance (all without being obnoxious) Both are on Netflix in the US as of 10/15

> In both works, exist a unknow enemy that apears from nowhere and almost ended the humanity existence; > In both,exist peoples that fight with this creatures; > They are animes pos-apocalipticals; > The only diference is in Sindonia no Kishi,the characters fight in mechas in the space,while in Black Bullet,they fight in the earth and with help of some super specials power;

Both are frightening hard science fiction dystopias by the master of japanese sci-fi horror, Tsutomu Nihei. Incredible scenery, eerie silences and just as eerie music, uncanny looking characters and a wholehearted attempt to capture the setting and feel of Nihei's incredible manga. If you like one you'll also like the other. Blame! is sadly only a six part miniseries but Knights of Sidonia is the first full length anime of a Tsutomu Nihei project and it's already hitting the ground running with mecha action, grunge starships and transhumans trying to preserve the human race under the threat of horrific space monsters called Guanas.

Both series about characters who come from some place, believed to be a myth to the other side. Futuristic but also not ideal, there's obvious darkness lurking in the side that seems more positive or civilized.

Main characters from both series can pilot the special mecha. Byakushii from Infinite Stratos. Tsugumore from Sidonai. One series is 2D, harem, comedy, and action. The other is full 3D, action packed, mysterious plot, and alien-like creatures. Sidonia main character is capable to handle the situation while IS main character is so so.

These shows are not similar in plot, but rather in look, style, characters, and pacing. If you are looking for a show that tosses aside anime stereotypes to tell a real story, you will NOT be disappointed. Both SnM and SnK take advantage of strides in 3d animation to tell Amidst beautifully rendered backdrops of a feudal society and traveling space ship respectively, these shows are about real people, real consequences, and a sense of "being there" that few other shows manage to accomplish. Add on pitch-perfect pacing and these both become 10-hour movies. Each show is 26 episodes but both are tour-de-forces in their own right.  read more

The main characters are both civilians caught up in a conflict with giant aliens in space in a vessel filled with other civilians to protect en route to a destination far away. That's pretty much where the similarities end. Macross isn't too realistic and filled with comic relief while Sidonia is more serious and gritty. Macross's animation is dated and Sidonia is modern CGI. But if you can get past the differences, someone who enjoyed Sidonia may enjoy Macross as well.

Similar 3D animated cell-shaded look. Both are about a boy, while initially disliked by many, later achieves heroic deeds; even if they made some enemies along the way. The protagonists of both series gains a powerful vessel to board (a space mecha in Knights of Sidonia, and a sci-fi future-spec'd submarine in Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Ars Nova) to fight against a relatively unknown enemy bent on destroying humanity.

It's been about about 8to5 year since I watched ryvius but, from the first episode of sidonia it made me think of ryvius. They have semi-similar sub plots. Ryvius is about somewhat of a militarily academy that teaches kids and teens do job such as pilot faint robots. Some thing happens to the ship to the point where all the kids are left alone and have to fend for the selves( similar to Lord of the flies). It's vary physiological. Overall it's a vary good anime that anyone should check out. Personally I'm probably going to re watch it again even though  read more

In a realm where humanity strives for salvation, their only hope is to undertake battles in space in order to advance their objectives. Suspense and plot twists frequent in the 3D CGI thriller, the newly recruited main character never ceases to surprise his peers with his abilities. Little does mankind know that this rookie may be the key to the liberation they need.

Mechas fighting overpowered tentacle monsters in space. The monsters threatening to obliterate humanity.

In both anime's they are fighting an unknown "alien" spieces. In Freezing, "pandoras" are the only ones that can defeat the creatures, while in Sidonia no Kishi, pilots of robots called Gardes are the only ones capable of fighting the aliens.

> Both have some kind of weapon to eliminate enemies. ( Spears / Stakes ) > Enemies have to be hit in a specific place to be annihilated. > Both uses 3D CGI in mechas. They give off that "eerie" feeling.

Both of these anime: - have main characters who seem to not fully comprehend their world; - have main protagonists' love interest play an important part in the plot; - have a peculiar and unorthodox style of animation; - are sci-fi anime with somewhat of a cyberpunk feel; - have people fighting for their survival.
report Recommended by HandsomeMan
Both anime are Mecha and Space type anime where the people are trying to cope with surviving against a certain impending threat. The real similarity comes from certain characters getting isolated in space from their stations trying to survive until help arrives, from which they start developing feelings for one-another; this in turn leads to scenarios which start to affect the plot in major ways.

The two series displays OP characters that have hidden potential that's later awaken as the story go's on. Others get spiteful and jealous of their abilities. Main characters of both series are forced to display their talents and fight for the higher ups to save and protect the homeland Both have love triangles involving the MC The story's have Mecha, Action, Si Fi, elements, also they have great Opening and ending songs
