Recommendations

Social media plays a huge role in both series.

The high tech community in both of these beautifully animated shows remind me of one another. The cell phone based social networking center is an all new way to communicate with people and eliminate modern day necessities. Both shows are very futuristic in a sense.

The heroes in both series are similar in design and "creation to protect the public."

Taking place in a local city, both series involve a group of characters with superpower abilities. These characters become intertwined in a story that tells of their present lives (with some flashbacks and characterization). Both series provoke humor with its dialogues, gags, and mysteries. For Gatchaman Crowds, the story revolves more around fighting for justice while Mekakucity Actors tells the interpersonal stories for its characters. I recommend both series for people interested in supernatural stories with slight tastes of mystery and humor.

Similarities: Both involve people with special abilities and secret organizations going after evil elements. Both have characters with very optimistic and artistic personalities. Both have the same action genre and the art of both anime are a bit too fancy. Dissimilarities: One has an extra supernatural, comedy genre and a yaoi element in it, while the other has sci-fi and school as its extra genre. One has an extra ecchi element, while one doesn't. The MC in one anime is boy who's more like a damsel-in-distress, while the other anime also stars a boy but he however, can kick ass.

Similarities: Both have the same fighting art form. Both have the same kind of kind of people who fight in special mech suits. Both have the same kind of main character who are high school students. Both have the same situation where the public is in danger. Dissimilarities: One involves a group of antagonists, while in the other anime there is only one main antagonist. The main character in one anime has a childhood friend, while the other doesn't. One anime was based on a card game while the other was based from a 1970's version.

Outstanding art-style! Nakamura Kenji as director and Iwasaki Taku as OST-composer. Similar genre type. Both possess at the same time an "eye-candy" animation and interesting story, something very rare in now-days anime productions!

Colourful animation and action are both present within these two series. Hamatora is a little bit more dramatic and contains even a little bit of horror, but the two have similar villains - sharp teeth, long hair, and abnormal ability. The two anime also focus on a certain group of people who are young, and definitely weird.

They both have almost similar vibes aside from their super power abilities, the characters personalities and those opponents that they'll encounter.
report Recommended by aisoka
The events of both series take place in conventional and virtual reality at breakneck speed and are depicted in vivid colors.

Taking over the world or rather just protecting it, both series adapts a super power theme involving characters with extraordinary powers. The main female protagonist serves as an antithesis to the typical frail girl. They often take charge and possesses an ebullient personality. At the same time, they do get into trouble with others but always tries to get the job done right. Both series also has a decent amount of comedy with humorous dialogues and gags.

Gatchaman Crowds is basically a super sentai version of Eden of the East, bringing the message that everyone should play their part in making a better society because everyone has something to offer. Also includes commentary on social media, although Gatchaman Crowds is a little more blunt with this.
report Recommended by Eastunder
Similarity : A story about hero who have duty to protect the city Different : + Karas is much more dark & violent compared to Gatchaman Crowds + Gatchaman Crowds have 6 heroes (8 actually) but Karas only have 2 heroes (5 other karas don't fighting alongside the MC so i am not count them)

This recommendation is being made for those who are interested in newer takes on older series, for both of these series are newer takes on older franchises from Japan. While they may not be every fan of that particular series cup-of-tea, they are likely to appeal to someone who is either the classic series from Japan. One of the ways they take a new spin is by working with a newer style for the franchise while also involving new characters.

Colorful anime with equally vibrant and interestingly queer characters that share an unintentional connection. They both have a mix of drama and action with a good focus on character development. While it's more evident in GC, both works touch on the subject of society structures and dynamics.
report Recommended by Tunpa
Both are superhero anime that add a orginal twist to the superhero genre formula and both have great female leads
report Recommended by Starcats08
They deal with themes such as justice, idealism, and heroism, and how power can corrupt a person. It could be argued that Rui Ninomiya and Light Yagami are antithetical in those respects. Also, the source of the protagonists' (or main characters', depending on your perspective) powers are notebooks.
report Recommended by SAniyoukoso
They have cute and bubbly art styles but have deeper themes, characters who fight monsters that everyday people can't see, and take place in futuristic societies where augmented reality is commonplace.
report Recommended by SAniyoukoso
They share the similiarity of high school students which also work as superheroes. Electronic music and city living ensue.

The villain for Gatchaman Crowds, Berg Katze is essentially Grell. Like seriously. They're both flamboyantly villainous fem transgender red heads with other worldly powers. I'm really surprised this correlation hasn't been made before.

* Both have special troops/units/enforcements to deal with criminals/terrorists... * Both are kinda Sci-fi -ish... * Both of these have useless or lame action scenes... * Both of these, tries to be serious at critical point...but as you know - it fails a lot... † Main differences that GC has beautiful character designs unlike AR...also ost's in GC are pretty much great... [AR sucks at it]

If you liked the societal manipulation aspect of the show and want to see the concept explored more deeply, Gatchaman Crowds does an impeccable job displaying a world under the influence of an other-worldly and demonic being from the governmental, public and individual levels. Gatchaman Crowds also sports stunning and exceptional visuals with deep, unique characters all while flaunting a marvelous electronic soundtrack.

Both anime are set in 2015 Tokyo and they both show robots fighting each other, even though the ones in Gatchaman are insects compared to them. Both anime have interesting backstories for all the secondary characters and they're pretty interesting to follow and the main character is a school student in the both series

I saw people saying that series like Kamen Rider or Super Sentai are their own genre instead of part of the superhero genre, not sure why the only significative difference is that they do poses on one, but I digress, here's two superhero series that you may like and if you didn't notice those first word were to pointout the kind of superhero both are more inspired by, one more west-like and the other more like classic Kamen Rider. varied and colourful characters on their quest to help/protect the people and their cities against villains or monster and everything that that ensues. Purely the similarities end with the suits, both show will showcase a set of BATTLE ARMOUR that requires transformation. Other than that, the shows are completely different in story, I recommend it because I enjoy both shows enough, and I really enjoy cool ARMOUR designs, and with these two shows having that, I'll recommend this regardless, try it out, Gatchaman is pretty fun to watch.

both anime mains transform into mecha-like battlesuits if you're into that strong female lead in both shows and are on the path of justice
report Recommended by RokkanShojo
Both have supernatural characters upbeat and edgy atmospheres and story styles and both are pretty fast paced shows that you can easily complete in a day or so.
report Recommended by Disapeared_Ghost
Both shows occur in a world where humans possess supernatural powers bc of the existence of alien beings. A group of individuals create a covert group, whose only job is to stop their city from submerging into chaos caused by the outpour of aliens. In the first episode itself, we see a new recruit to this group, who obviously is our main character. And together, the characters in both the shows go on grand adventures and participate in many visually appealing fights.

Both series have a very energetic protagonist who changes the world around them for the better, both are heart warming and feel-good in a way though Kobato. is way sadder.

Even though both of these animes got very different plot, there are some similarities that you could find in these both. For example, Gatchaman Crowds and Danganronpa are focus on a group of people that got different personalities and not to mention, their leader is not a human-- is a bear( even though they're very opposite). And Gatchaman Crowds got some comedies and more full of colour on the background than Danganronpa, but I think both of them got the same point which is, "you have to work together in order to receive the best."
report Recommended by Ayaka-Azumi
both have a similar feeling with both being reboots of a series. both have a transforming gimmick.
report Recommended by Supersam1492
both these shows cover the impact of the internet and surreal links between the real world and the digital world(Galax and the Wired). both shows focus on a out of normal teenage girl who is put into a situation to change the world, and the impact she makes changes the people around her for the better or worse. and both of these shows take place in a future real life setting meant with supernatural elements to them, either it be from aliens....or regular people like your close ones.

Gatchaman Crowds and Casshern Sins are more recent re-imaginings of classic Tatsuonoko Production anime made back in the 70s. But while Gatchaman Crowds is an optimistic portrayal of Japanese superheroes, there's a heavy dose of bleakness in the world of Casshern Sins. Either way, both series prove that certain characters and concepts in the anime medium are timeless.

Double Circle is practically the spitting image spin off of Gatchaman Crowds with different characters and a seemingly different plot, with the same art, animation, and themes. Both have a high tech community and yes, both have mecha suited main cast. Gatchaman Crowds>Double Circle.

Similarity in which a group of human is bestowed powers from a outer space being, and they use these power to protect the humans from things which do not originate from earth. They both start off with the battle between the group and the unknown monsters, then the main heroine is bestowed the power and join the group to help. However, in Nobunagun their power is based on historic figures such as Nobunaga and jack the ripper, while i believe in gatchaman their power is based on their personality/interest. Also, the monsters in nobunagun is taking over the world and destroying cities while in gatchaman the  read more

Both shows focus on a group of characters granted special abilities to fight off enemies. Gatchaman features powered up armor whereas Planet With features mechs, though the designs of both feel similar. The plot in both starts rather typically, but ends up diverging into to something a lot more deeper and fun. Lots of creativity and energetic directing.

So how are these two seemingly very different series similar? The cynical response might be that both shows borrowed Hirasawa Yui from K-ON! to serve as the main protagonist, but that isn't really what I was going for. It is worth mentioning, however, that both "Yui-clones" have ideas that are far more interesting (as ideas at least) than "fun things are fun" (which is more meaningful than it might seem, but that's neither here nor there). Now what I was trying to get at is the fact that both anime are stylistically superb, even if the two aesthetics are just about polar opposites, and furthermore, both  read more

Both anime series feature superheroes. Gatchaman Crowds has a team of superheroes called "Gatchamen" while Zetman has two rival heroes, ZET and Alphas. One difference between Zetman and Gatchaman Crowds is the art style; the other difference is the tone of the anime. Crowds has a lighthearted tone, while Zetman is a darker and more serious anime because of its post-apocalyptic nature.

In both Darker than Black and Gatchaman Crowds, there exists beings with supernatural abilities. Some uses them for good while others for malevolent deeds. Luckily, there is an organization/group present in both series that tries to maintain order and puts a stop to those who tries to step above the law. Some of the main characters contrasts in personalities although Yin and Utsu-tsu has some resemblance. There is decent action present in both series as well. However, Darker than Black maintains a more serious tone with its super power theme. At the same time though, they still relate to the idea of the Tokyo setting with people  read more

Both involve a Mecha type transformation and a secret group of people that no one should speak or reveal to anyone other then inside the group. And action filled !

Directed by the same man, Gatchaman Crowds and Tsuritama look and sound very much alike. Although these series are not so similar in terms of genre, they share very similar happy and carefree atmosphere. The character designs are simple yet sweet and the color palettes are so wide that even rainbows fall second. Both series also have aliens relevant to the story.

Bubbly, upbeat, colourfully-explosive animation. Centred around secret heroes living with each other, topped with a dash of comedy to balance out any serious plot the show throws at you. Both have groovy-ass music to back up the visually exciting fights, though Gatchaman takes it to the next level (god bless Iwasaki)

-In both animes, characters can transform and communicate with each other to fight against monsters -They both have something that is like their soul, they must protect it or they could die if it is damaged.

Despite the sharp aesthetic and tonal contrast between Psycho Pass and Gatchaman: Crowds, they make for excellent thematic complements. The former, with it's seedy earth tone color palette and pessimistic outlook, explores how artificial intelligence and predictive algorithms could enable and perpetuate right wing authoritarianism. Meanwhile, the latter and it's sequel use garish primary and secondary colors, as well as the boundless optimism of it's lead character to explore how social media can help build a co-operative, direct democracy, aka left wing libertarianism (as well as showing the potential problems that might come with both working toward that system and living in it). Thus, while  read more

What are the similarities between a hero and a detective? In a society they both strive for justice and truth either with or against society. The corpse binds them to the search for the criminal. "Who is the criminal?" is the question they both try to answer.

Although they don't share the similar atmosphere, both Witch Hunter Robin and Gatchaman Crowds involves an organization of individuals with special abilities. These individuals are gifted with power that enables them to engage in combat and hunt down others whom uses their power for malicious deeds. Witch Hunter Robin has a more gloomier atmosphere but both series has a taste of super power. Among other factors, there's a little sense of mystery involving the origins of both series' settings, characters, and concepts.

Both series are about exploring how technology can fundamentally change society. Beatless is about the development of AI, while Gatchaman Crowds ponders social media. Both shows feel like reading a harder science fiction novel (especially since Beatless was adapted from one). On the flip side, this means that these shows are for viewers more interested in the ideas than the characters.

Both series involve cute main characters who can transform themselves in aliens somehow. Villains are aliens with the same objetive in common. Both include a weird perspective about humans and their future. Both are bizarre and a little mindfuck. Great art and soundtrack.

Modern takes on classic superhero stories and tropes. Gatchaman Crowds carries the name of the classic Science Ninja Team over to 2015 Japan, complete with heavy use of modern technology and commentary on what place a team of superheroes should hold in society. Samurai Flamenco tells the story of a lifelong fan of Tokusatsu series who never gave up on his childhood dreams of becoming a real-life Tokusatsu character. Despite certain violent moments, either series sticks to an optimistic feel.
