Not only Shimeji Simulation and Ashizuri Aquarium are surreal and unfathomable experience, but both manga seem to have one recurrent theme: fish. It's omnipresent and helps to understand the reality which is dare I say, "in aqua scribis". With a good sense of humor, we are swimming through the main characters' adventures and we contemplate the authors' creativity.

Both of theser are collections of short stories about a little girl and her adventures in a surreal world, with atypical yet aesthetical artstyle.

Exudes a thought-provoking and calming atmosphere brought about by it’s highly-detailed drawing and shading techniques. Euphoric, in a surreal and unusual way.

Both titles deals with children (in Ashizuri's case, child) making their way through the ordeals of a weird but magnificent world, with distinct and beautiful art styles, and flirting with heavy themes.

Collections of short stories of a surreal, dream-like nature in an otherwise contemporary setting with a subtly melancholic art style. Daidai wa is, however, a lot darker than Ashizuri.

Both manga are about a little girl who lives a carefree life, and explores the expansive and surreal world around her. Soda Waters of August explores the whimsical and wondrous with a full-color children's-book style, while Ashizuri Suizokukan is more about bizarre happenings and has a more abstract and sketchy style. Example: August's walking lighthouse, and Ashizuri's shopping errand to Russia.

In these manga with similar artstyle the main character (a small girl) is surrounded by many different buildings, items, and objects with a weird shape. They travel and have long adventures (if not in their own head). *Both girls have a lot of imagination.

Protagonist's journey through a world that seems to be a merge of our world and a dream world, the manga is full of surreal scenery and overall is mainly and artsy work rather than a storytelling piece.

I haven't finished neko kappa yet, in fact im only 2 chapters in, but it strikes me as being very similar in atmosphere and art to ashizuri suizokukan. Theres this otherwirldly feeling, seemingly endless traveling, always a touch of the surreal even if it's not blatant, and its lightly funny, like, incredulous is a word I could use, maybe. I'd say this one feels maybe... Less light-hearted than ashizuri? More dark comedy. It involves humans but they end uo veing mostly a oart of the setting. Lush scenery and detail with very simple characters. I could go on.

Both of them are heavily atmospheric and poignant slice of life pieces with gorgeous artwork, though Ashizuri Suizokukan is somewhat less relaxed and more flat-out surreal than Kotonoba Drive is.

Both of these are adventures that mix a somewhat regular, slice of life themes with surreality and atypical artstyle.

Those two collections of stories about the adventures of a little girl in a mundane yet surreal world are so similar they feel like two parts of the same series.

They have a bit similar feel of mystery and relaxed pace in them.
