This Manga is average. It's incredibly average. Average characters, average fights, boring Good vs Evil with no nuance. Cliche after cliche, so many forced events. The manga feels forced with absolutely no flow.

The story is boring. Good vs evil, whatever. Why is there a religious organization? Because it's cool. Why don't the audience react weirdly when they experience supernatural phenomenon? Who knows.... it's never explained. The Art is pretty good. The characters....... some are cool, most are just uninteresting.


The only redeeming quality of this entire series is the awesome relationship that the protagonist has with his grandfather and the underlying philosophy of "Do ... what you want". A slice of Life manga with just the two of these characters and this philosophy would be amazing, but instead we're stuck with this mediocre graveyard. I read this far because I hoped to see this philosophy show itself more, but alas it did not.

With the anime on the horizon, if you have any qualms about reading "GoH" or even watching it when it comes out, I'm here to put those to rest.

Art: It's amazing; from start to finish. The artist does an outstanding job depicting action and letting scenes lead your eye through the page.

Character: I have my gripes about how some of the characters are written, but for a series originally about a fighting tournament, they didn't even need to be written this well.
This could've easily just been a "Fight-Win-Fight-Lose-Train-Fight-Win" cycle, but the author put forth the effort to make every character feel important and valued to ... the story, and while not always to their fullest potential, the effort should still be appreciated and respected.

Story: This is where my problems come in. Without spoiling anything, all I'm going to say is that there are a couple of arcs that last too long, some that are too short, and plot points that remain, or were never, unexplored. Things and Characters get introduced only to be tossed away later never to be used again. Though the author came out to apologize for it, and things have seem to come full circle in the story, but it's the little things that really get to me, and why I cannot rate this series higher than an 8 overall.

When I was reading God of Highschool I had a friend who was always depressed an then he read it and sone white mayonnaise came out of nowhere in his screen he told me that after the day he has begun to read this peak what I was trying to say is that god of high school is a life saver I love this series so much hahahaha it’s too funny I recommend it everyone I know and everyone say it’s good so to everyone who say it’s trash please think again and maybe think what you can do better because only losers don’t like ... the god of high school it’s the peak of peak I mean it’s great and a live safer so go read it or cry and trink your mothers milk

This webtoon/manhwa is very good, I really didn't wanted to try any of webtoon I thought that "how can this be good" Idk why but I thought like that, this manhwa changed my opinion about webtoon and I'm really enjoying this story.

Mori Jin is Goku + Luffy alike character, dumb, fun, energetic. The most I like in this manhwa is that every character has it's own story and purposes, the author doing it very well, and fight scenes is just bomb just like in dragon ball not "alike" fights but really exciting, I don't want to spoil too much so everyone should try this ... manhwa, after 70+ chapters it already became one of my favorites, I can't even feel how time flies when I'm reading this manhwa, It is way too much enjoyable

This is one of the few works that I feel compelled to leave a review, and when I come here to read what you thought of the work as a whole, I'm very surprised that most haven't read everything (In fact, I couldn't even find a review from someone who has read everything). It's a little frustrating because the final stretch, and this entire sixth season was the peak of the work, I was so immersed and moved by everything that even though it wasn't fully translated into my language, I made a great effort to read but scans in English, I didn't miss anything! ... I don't regret having shed tears over the mistakes and successes of TGHS, a work of pure madness. I admit, I have a weakness for endings like this, something on the emotional and power scale like gurren lagan, lots of screaming, fighting, despair and crying.

I dedicate this review, to this work and the author, who worked so hard to reach this beautiful conclusion.
"Do whatever you want!"

I'm going straight to the main problem: the author has no idea how to make a worldbuilding or handle power creep. The fights are interesting, but the powerscale is so confusing and everytime the characters gain power when it's convenient to the plot. The politics of this world makes no sense and the 99% of the characters don't have a believable motivation after the first 100 chapters.
Have you ever played final fantasy? One of the funniest things in final fantasy that every final boss become a god in the final and the final fight is amazing compared to the rest.
The god of ... highchool want's to make EVERY FIGHT looks like a final fantasy final boss fight, and it doens't work, because if every fight is incredible, it become predictable and boring.

some characters are too cheated but that's the beauty of the manwha

Sigh, so much potential. Despite the first half being chock full of mildly insulting stereotypes, it was FUN, the tournament was fun, seeing characters grow was fun, the powers were fun, the fighting was fun, so much of it was just a good time. Then it kind of seems like the author hit a brick wall about what to do and where to take it, honestly it reminds me of Bleach in that way. Over time it has also become increasingly cliche, and like ToG there is far too much "haha you've activated my trap card I prepared for this all along haha!" as well ... as double crossing, triple crossing, legit quadruple crossing and I'm not joking quintuple crossing... Combine that with some silly power creep and asspull power ups because the MC's friends have ultimate plot armor and it has gotten really stale. If this had ended with Chapter 2 I think it could have easily been an 8-9 for me, however the way it's going I'll just stop now at 470 because it simply isn't getting any better and I want to preserve the good memories I made during the first half of the journey into The God of Highschool.

The story starts out good, characters are growing as chapter progresses & the pacing is just right, unlike the anime which is rushed. But as you reach the end of the first season (or chapter as how it is defined by the author) everything becomes overblown, everyone is now overpowered, & there are things that doesn't make a sense. Though it will be explained later on, you will see the inconsistencies. A lot of times as well, a character will have a super power revealed (that is overkill) & will only be explained after a few chapters has passed. It's also somehow off-putting that everything ... has a plot twist (which doesn't have any foreshadowing) and judging by the scene it doesn't even need that plot device at all. Overall, if you like over the top action, like the Dragon Ball Series, and you don't mind lots of plot twist then you will at least appreciate this webtoon.

9/10 story: It's very entertaining even though there are times that the story is confusing. You need patience in reading throughout and when you get to that chapter that explains everything... I tell you, it will surprise you and the reward is SO great!

9/10 art: The art is ok in the 1st volume but as you read more, the art is becoming greater. How the fights has been depicted per panel is so great that it feels like you're watching an anime. There are many freakin good and cool panels!

10/10 characters: You're ... even gonna love the villains and supporting characters. Main character Mori is so savage. 😂

10/10 enjoyment: If you love action, the bad*ss, thrilling fights here is on top. These godly fights made me want to reread it again... and again... and again.

PS: the anime is different from the webtoon, so don't automatically hate the webtoon if you don't like the anime

After noticing a lack of reviews for The God of High School, I figured I'd give anyone interested an in-depth review, of the currently ongoing Manwha Webtoon (currently presenting almost 500 chapters at the time of this review).

First I'll give some quick scores, with as simple of an explanation as possible, and I'll follow it up with an overall review with as few spoilers as possible.

Story: 8/10

I wanted to give it a 9, however I would first like to touch on the fact that the story starts fairly slow and one dimensional, then it rapidly grows, and at some point it peters off... Before exploding ... into a ball of awesome.
This story has its ups and downs, but at the end of the day, it's drenched in a rich world with detail, depth, and more lore (and flaws) than a reader can ask for. Nothing is off-limits (in a good way) to Yongje Park, who elegantly introduces themes from all over the world, ranging from Christianity and Chinese History, to Greek Mythology and much more.


Art: 8/10

Being a Webtoon/manwha, there is only so much that can be said here... Besides outstanding, even though its panel to panels of mostly simplistic art. When it comes down to what is needed, it outshines against the top Fighting Manga and Manwha out there.
Fully colored, and well drawn panel to panel. I had to go back and randomly open up chapters from as far back as the start to hunt for flaws, and to my surprise even from the start, when a fight is drawn out by Yongje Park, you can imagine them in an anime. You are satisfied.


Characters: 9/10

If there is something this Webtoon/Manwha did right, that an anime sadly failed to meet the expectations on, it was the characters. The characters have so much depth, you'll begin connecting and caring about your favorites so fast.

Each character both main and supporting, and even some of the ones who only show up in 2-3 chapters are given at least some motivation besides being generic "I want to fight strong people" "I'm evil to be evil." I'll be going into a very serious review on this at the end, so if you're interested please read on.


Enjoyment: 9/10

There isn't much to say here, because I play to explain why this Webtoon stood out so much to me later. So simply put, I can't imagine not rereading this, enjoying it each time, and occasionally flipping over to my favorite chapter/fight and indulging in them with a smile on my face.

Overall I reluctantly give this an 8/10, it's not perfect, there are flaws in logic and some of the story is hard to understand and follow, and sometimes things drag on. However that's it, it covers each weakness up with its own outstanding points I'd like to touch up on in a REAL review.


In order to avoid this becoming a multi page essay I'm going to combine points I talked about earlier but go in-depth on.
Characters and Story go hand and hand, so this should be simple to give you a review on how Yongje Park brought to life an epic that started out as kids fighting a tournament, to so much more, that Worlds are dragged into it, and you are as well.

Each characters is given a sublime backstory, and reasoning for whom they are, it's not over the top and 20 chapters long per person, so you're never completely sickened by the "filler." Instead you're given a reason to care about the kid with a bat, or martial artist equal to our main character Mori Jin. You quickly find your favorites, and you look forward to seeing each one in the next chapter they show up in, and roll in excitement when you watch them grow. Or cry your eyes out when something unfortunate happens to them.

A world is built around all the characters, and it's not just a simple "this is a world where people have powers and fight." NO, there is a reason people can use these powers, there is a logic behind it, and a reason why some people can activate it and some can't. You're introduced to an incorporation of myths and legends that stand as the base of each power. For example the Charyeok (or borrowed power) of one character is to summon the Demi-God Hercules, and manifest him in a few ways to use in fights. Whilst another character is able to call upon the powers of Yeo-Po Bong-Seon, who in history is known as Lu Bu Feng Xian. A Chinese Warlord and General who actually existed until the year 199.

The only flaw in this world building art, is that sometimes it feels like it's gotten out of hand. Like the powers of others is just too fantastic to be incorporated into a book, without having some sort of limiter, or penalty. While times there is, in regards to Mori Jin/Na Bongchim's Bongchim acupuncture.

Earlier I talked about "motivation" beyond your generic, evil because I hate things. The people you find evil, you hate with your heart, but you are given a look into why they are evil, the tragedy of living the way they have.And while you still hate them, some of the you understand as misguided or outright foolish. Almost no one in this Manwha besides surprisingly one character, is the "I just want to fight strong people, I have nothing more going for me" kind of person. Which is phenomenal, and what most Martial Art/Action manga often find themselves suffering from.A splash of backstory here, a sprinkle of sudden world altering change here, from seemingly nothing, and you have a generic fighting anime.
Here you're introduced to a world, some people are more shallowly built than others, but the main cast you follow, and the people they run into, more times than not, have a purpose, a goal, and can even develop properly from that goal without a magical brainwash of "Ok, you're right."

To close, I will say, this story developed strong. Where it stands now, nearly 500 chapters later, I am so invested in our main characters, that I readily open up and sit down to read the weeks latest chapter.

After watching the first two episodes of the god of "Highschool" I was super invested and went onto my webtoon app and decided to catch myself up on the story and boy do I regret it. No hate toward the author, but he/she doesn't know how to stick to a generic story line and run with it. This can be seen after a certain chapter and you start to see that it is no longer the God of Highschool. But something completely different at that. If you want to see good artwork and follow a generic story line until a certain chapter then give this ... story a try. I am currently on. the "Ragnarok" Story arc and will most likely drop the story after that because people said it gets super dumb after. So Read it if you will. Or dont, I just hope that this finds to be useful to someone..

EDIT: So This is my FULL review of the series as I am catched up on the series and I am waiting for the author to end it. Which I asume will be around Chapter 500. Current Chapter is at 471.
The God Of Highschool. The name alone would hype anyone up but you'd be pretty dissapointed after Chapter 305 the end of Ragnarok which where they should have ended the series on a happy note. But they didn't they pulled a time skip arc as their final chapter, Now this is tricky for a lot of webtoons and you need hardcore deicated fans to even fully support this crazy idea.

Now After catching up on the series I realized I was wrong about the series being absolute dog shit after Ragnarok. That wasn't the case at all.. The vibrant new colors among the characters were amazing and I was baffled, I couldn't understand why anyone disliked it.

However, then I reached the point where I begun seeing why, Most of the characters in the Time skip arc are drawn and portrayed cocky and irresponsible. This can be seen in mostly every pannel and I feel like the author has a heavily handicapped fetish. As he handicapps most of his characters or ends up killing them. Then there is my final issue, The "Boss Fight" At this point I feel like its all dragging up to fight the big bad of the series and will end in a massive boss fight that will conclude the series with the three Main Characters Mori Jin, Dawei Han, Mira Yoo.

My Rating won't change on the show, The Story is Mediocre, The Art is a 10/10, The Chapters are Decent sometimes, The Enjoyment can be a Solid 8/10 and the Overall is a Fair 6 as Most people dislike the series and most people think it should've ended after Ragnarok. But At the end of the day it is a great story and I hope the author can end it soon as he was blessed with a child! So Congrats to them. I also hope that they can animate the entire series when it is finished but I highly doubt that will happen as it took a long time to even get the anime in the first place.

This manga got me really hooked at the beginning, I really like Mori Jin and the other cast of characters. Loved every single chapter. Couldn't wait for the next. I only really started to get bored of this manhwa because of the drag out. Like when he just renamed every move of his, when he practically just became god out of now where, just a new enemy every two seconds, and when the huge time skip happened. Only dropped this manga because of sheer boredom and the drag out it has. I think it should've ended by now tbh.

God of Highschool is a manga that's going, you're along for the ride and it's REALLY going. And then it keeps going. And going. And going. And going And going And going And going And going And goingAndgoingAndgoingAndgoingAndgoingAndgoing... until you're not sure why anything is happening in the first place. The final battle puts Lone Wolf and Cub to shame in terms of sheer length, the villain's backstory basically boils down to that meme from the Trolls movie. It gets so tedious that I kept thinking as I read each chapter that the story should have ended 50 chapters ago. Yet until that point, it ... was a pretty good read, so it really comes down to your personal taste on extended fight scenes. You may stop caring at some point, but god damn they look beautiful. The art never drops in quality even once. Overall, a mixed bag.

As of chapter 470. I believe The God of High School to be an amazing series that can continuously provide excellent writing, eye-catching panels, interesting character development, and for the majority of this manhwa I've personally been entertained. For starters, I expected this series to strongly be focused on strictly fighting based on the community's input on this when the announcement of and anime came about. This series intrigued me from the trailers that released, so I decided to start reading this about a month before the anime actually began to serialize. The first arc instantly had me hyped for the start, and thus I ... continued on to see where the journey of these characters lied.

From there I continued to enjoy the challenges that our trio faced, and the introduction of literal Gods. Although I heavily love this series, my interest did start to waver after the incident in Oraeguk, but I slowly started to accept Hui. From there I think the series just continued to get better and better which each arc, and I'm definitely excited to see what comes upon the end of this series.

The God Of High School is a manhwa I have been reading for a long time, and I'm glad it's finally on MAL. Okay so summary, the story is about a "high schooler" named Mori-Jin who, along with people from all over the world are invited to this giant fighting competition to determine who is the strongest and earn the title, The God Of high school (G.O.H tournament). This series is definitely incredible, but with every series comes with a few issues. I will try to make this review as honest as possible and hope ... it helps you decide whether this is worth the 394 chapter read (still ongoing) or not.


Story: 8/10
Although some people may be taunted by the 300+ chapters, thinking that the pacing will be too slow, no worries, that's just shows you how much detail and development they put into each chapter. Each chapter is filled to the brim with important details, not a single waste of a chapter. They got their relaxing chapters from time to time, but only because the story is just so intense. It is a very complex storyline, but its still somehow keeping it linear. The only thing I have a problem is with the abrupt change of plot from arc to arc. It went from a high school tournament to the end of the world. The story get's really interesting for sure, but at this point, I found myself waiting weeks before starting to read the piled updates because of how drastic the changes were. It was like running to the other side of the continent and back. This happens for the 3-4 big arcs. The transition from arcs are just very forced to me. Overall it ends up fixing itself, but still bothers me.


Art 10/10
The chapters at the beginning already had a unique style of art going for it, but later on the art becomes incrdible. The details they put into each panel is amazing. It's very fluid and not rigid. The fight scenes can be paintings I would buy. It's that amazing. If I had to compare, it's equivalent to the praise people give to the Fate series fight scenes. Not to mention, since it's hugely based on martials art, they literally draw every part of the characters movement. I thought I was watching a animation moving. And not just the backgrounds and characters, but the characters emotions are really fleshed out because of the art. In turn, those raw emotions coming from just their expression pulls you in. Their is absoulutely nothing wrong with the art and nothing I would change.

Every character in The God Of High School are very memorable. They all had their own quirks and the character designs were very unique from one another. Especially the 3 main characters. They are very well developed and the manhwa shows you their growth all the way from day one. From their friendship to their own personal pasts, they learn and it actually sticks with them. Not just them, but you kind of just get personal with all the characters at a certain level. The characters are very complicated people and I sometimes think they are causing more drama for themselves then they need to, but that's how people are supposed to be anyways. The reason I wouldn't give it a 10/10 is because they sometimes drastically change a part of the character and get rid of all their "development" in one go. It makes for great plot twits, but sometimes it's just so random.


Enjoyment: 8/10
Well yeah! I enjoyed it! The comedy is good, and it makes the characters have more ways to bond than just fighting. Since this manwha is heavily based on fighting though, sometimes it can go on for chapters and waiting for an update was a pain haha. I'm also not one for drama, and it gets a lot more juicy the more you go, so I gave it an 8 for personal reasons, but if you're up for some of that in-depth drama AND action adventure, change this score as if I said it was a 10/10!

Overall thoughts, it's GOOD, and based a lot on the fighting and story. They don't got time for fillers haha. You could call some stories fillers, but I think of them as character development for future chapters. I highly reccommend giving this series a try.

So to get into it quickly, I enjoyed the anime for this series back when that came out and I guess that was almost entirely because of the animation making the fight scenes exciting. The God of High School has the same issue a lot of these popular webtoons have which is that they are just pure power fantasy, but in my opinion fail to be good power fantasies because of that.

Characters have no real strong motivations or personality, they just act however would be convenient. Like why is Mori fighting in this tournament to begin with? I get he enjoys fighting, but why? Did ... he suffer a loss and now chases strength because he's afraid of losing? Nah his grandad is a strong guy or something so I guess he is too and he wants to fight now. This makes the series feel like a string of events with no real weight or meaning to them, which makes it hard to care about the fights. The world building is also pretty lame since they just kind of dump random things on you with very little explanation. I have no idea what "human cultural assets" are or why they are so important or why they seem to have so much power, they just do.

Fights also get progressively more confusing. People complain about characters stopping to explain what they're doing every move in shounen fights, but this feels like it's the exact opposite. I have no idea if they I see fire coming from someone's feet if it's artistic flare, a "borrower" power (this series' magic). Like I don't even understand how the magic works because we see normal characters continue to fight after being impaled by magic shark teeth or something and I just don't understand what's going on.

Those are my gripes. It looks fine and the characters have distinct designs, so I wouldn't say there's no appeal to this series but it's just too poorly thought out for me to enjoy it. Power fantasies work for me when there's at least something of a struggle for our characters, when they have strong motivations, when the world is interesting and/or when the fights are interesting. I don't think The God of High School has any of that.

The story follows a teenager named Mori Jin, it is a very compelling story as you watch every character grow, you see the past of all main characters, be it villains or heroes.

There are very INTERESTING twists as it just keeps spices things up. At the moment im at the episode 471 and its just beautiful, recently we all finally got one thing we all wanted ( wont spoil anything but episode 462!!!!! :') )

i've seen someone here say this manhwa doesn't tell much each chapter and that 1 ... manga chapter is equal to 1 manhwa chapter, everyone has the right to have its own opinion but thats straight up wrong xD as every chapter in this manhwa has more info than any manga i've read before its not even close.

Now, on to the story, man Mori Jin, Daewi Han and Mira Yoo go to SO MUCH! mira and daewi love story is probably one of the best i've seen is so developed and cruel after the first half, Mori goes from super teen, to god, to clone, to ultimate god and this is just the first half..... He did all this to save his grampa ! And he gets fucking killed i fucking felt that so hard!

And there are so many more characters mujin park, ilpyo, manduk, judge R and Q ...... you name it, this story is so rich in details and action and drama and suspense and building up!!

Story wise ill give it 9/10 cause it got lost a bit before the grand war

Overall this is a 9/10 manhwa for sure. The anime is coming out, read it you wont be disapointed you will love their story. You need to be patient some times but yet again, there are animes like Naruto, One Piece that took 500+ episodes to end ( one piece to still end and going strong) no long story can be all perfect and fast story telling and only focusing on the main character.

Trust me as someone who started reading this like in 2012 and still going and its close to its final now. Hyped for the anime and hyped for all the new fans!

Welcome to this great story!

This stupid thing is just treading water at the time of me writing this. Power scaling goes up, author writes themselves into a corner, power levels go down, rinse and repeat. Forever. And whatever message was originally trying to be conveyed has been lost at this point, characters are just going through the motions.

The author had a kid and the thing shifted to being a loose and poor interpretation of parenthood, anyway don't bother with this until it's completed, it has the same issue a lot of manhwa have where the main character doesn't show up for hundreds of chapters, like they got bored ... and wanted to focus on other things.

This is horrible

Artwork is some of the worst I've ever seen. MC is an obnoxious idiot. There is zero buildup for any of the fights. Where is the drama? Where is the suspense? I don't think I've ever read a more shallow battle story before. If something like Tenjou Tenge (which is very similar in structure) is an average 5/10 then this is negative 10? The interactions between the characters are bizarre and unnatural. Maybe it's just the really bad artwork but none of these characters feel real. The tone is all over the place. MC will be battling for his life one page and ... then the next page is nonsense comedy. I suppose if all you want is just really bad artwork of people punching each other then this is it...
