poor Charlotte. royal pedophilia. and I'm surprised it took her so long to do it.
cuz when Andre rushed in with the news abt Rosalie's mom, I thought he was coming to give news abt Charlotte

and AHA! you know, when that bit had run over Rosalie's mom and they were doing all the closeups
I had thought they looked rather similar and the idea flashed thru my mind

also sooooo many Utena moments!

also clearly we got rid of those dresses cuz they made running away impossible
swear women can't take 2 quick steps in this show without falling over
oh but then we got high heels. damn.

Even though so much happened this episode, it didn't feel rushed at all. I wasn't all that fond of this show before, but now I change my mind, since this episode was so spectacular. I heard how this show gets even better, and if so, it might become my favorite shoujo next to Utena.

Wow that was a very heavy episode, so much happened. First it gets revealed that Rosalie is Polignacs Daughter (On a subconscious level I somehow expected this, it didn't surprise me that much). In the same time Rosalie loses both her ambitions - to kill Polignac and to meet ehr real mother. I wonder what she will do next.

Then we also get shown how the time back then really was paradise for pedobear and his companions. The only we to escape for Charlotte was suicide. It was a rushed decision though, in her stead I would have preferred to run away and live a poor life. I didn't see her death coming.

Very tragic episode, the best one so far in the anime.
I probably regret this post by now.

Well, that was an incredibly depressing episode. I thought that Jeanne would somehow die or something, given the title of the episode. But, when it was revealed that Charlotte was Rosalie's sister, along with the turn of events for her, I pretty much knew where the episode was going. Damn, couldn't something have been done? I think polignac ONLY has herself to blame here. Well, I can't help but think Oscar could have somehow helped her.

Wow that whole scene with Rosalie pointing the gun at Countess Polignac left me speechless. I loved that shot with Rosalie's eyes glaring over the barrel and the music to go with it was perfect. One of the best shots I've seen in anime.

Wooow. Spectacular episode. O: Even though it was so tragic in the end, it was incredibly well done.

Somehow, I never predicted that either of these twists would happen... but at least this episode explains why Rosalie looks so similar to Polignac and Charlotte (well, at least in my opinion). I'm sort of glad that Polignac was mourning about Nicole's death and what she'd done. It showed a side of her I definitely didn't expect to see - a more humane one, and one with a conscience.

If Rosalie is Polignac's daughter that she bore when she was 15, who's Jeanne's mother!? Surely not Polignac?

And as for the other twist... Like others, I didn't expect Charlotte, of all people, to commit suicide. (Though she had definitely snapped at the end. Poor thing. I felt horrible that she had to be victim to Medieval pedophilia...)

This episode sure was intense.

Poilgnac only has herself to blame for everything she married off her daughter to some pedophile mother of the year right here! I knew what was going to happen when Charlotte started washing her hands although I was expecting her to drown herself in the fountain and not fall from the tower.

Poor Rosalie the mother she knew and loved died, Jeanne turned into a greedy witch, her real mother killed the mother she loved, and her biological sister went insane and killed herself in front of her. Wonder what will come of her next?

I really hate Poilgnac, but I know the karma train will smack her head on before the end of the series. I really hope so.

Whoa...that was a heavy episode. First Rosalie is Poilgnac's daughter and fails to kill her. Poilgnac realizes who she is and who she killed and the wave of regret hits her but chooses to pray to be protected by god.

Then she tries to marry off her other daughter to a pedophile and does it even against Charlotte's wishes so she goes crazy and kills herself.

Boy karma finally hit her hard, but I do feel bad for Rosalie, what will she do now?

Not surprising that Polignac is actually Rosalie's real mother. The first time i see Charlotte and Rosalie during the ball, they look like twins.

BUT WHY THE FUCK SOMEBODY DIDN'T EVEN BOTHERED TO CATCH THE GIRL WHILE FALLING? Are these nobles brain dead or something? Odin gracious.

I totally saw the twist about Rosalie and polignac coming, but good grief, Charlotte killed herself?! Poor girl... That dude was truly a creep, I was so mad polignac was willing to marry her off to him. But I like how she's not as two-dimensional as du Barry; she was super regretful when she found out Rosalie was her daughter, and was heartbroken when Charlotte killed herself. By the way, did all this stuff really happen? Because polignac was a real person...

Ah, I was spoiled earlier so it didn't hit me with surprise that Rosalie was the daughter. I liked that Polignac showed up some regret.

Though I'm surprised Charlotte commit suicide. He only kissed her hand... at least attempt to run away first or something. That escalated quickly.

No, no. History isn't so melodramatic (most of the time). This is fictionalized and shoujo-fied.

Yes that felt quite exaggerated. She made it seem like she had just been molested or worse when it was just a kiss on the hand. Definitely not something to go psycho over and kill yourself yikes.

Charlotte was something. I mean she was fainted hearing the duke's laugh, I wasn't too surprised when she commited suicide because of that.

I still don't get the hatred Rosalie has toward Polignac. Technically, Polignac didn't kill her 'mother'. It was pure an accident. Ah well..

I think you didn't fully understand the meaning of her speech before she commited suicide; with the white rose symbolizing her virginity and her talking about how she washed her self so thoroughly that she could go back to being that perfect white rose.
Which of course isn't possible and then we see one petal coming loose just before she jumps.

I'd guessed that Rosalie was Polignacs daughter. Glad to see Polignac faced with regret, felt like less of a bad guy. And she also seemed to know Rosalies adoptive mother well?

God, this episode was good.
First that amazing cut of Rosalie pointing the gun to Polignac, then the twist (which I feel ashamed of not predictin), then Polignac's guilt and Charlotte's suicide.

I don't think you guys are being far to Charlotte, though. I mean, she is eleven! How could she run away or live by herself? Not when you are basically trapped in Versailles. Being poor after such luxuries would be unberable for her (that humiliated Rosalie for ''not being a noble''). I think that, in her place, I would do the same. The woman she trusted the most not only attacked her beloved Oscar but is selling her to monster.

This was a good episode. The girl was only 11! She didn't deserve getting married to some pedo so I felt for her. I expected the suicide but I still felt sad that she died.

I'm disappointed with Polignac, I was hoping she would revoke her daughter's marriage after she regretted what she had done but nope, she left it as it is.

Two things

First, this show is pretty much hit and miss, and this episode was a massive hit. Best episode of the series and some.

Second, Poignac is a million times worse than du Barry. At least du Barry was self centered enough to not drag anyone else in her misery. What Poignac did to Charlotte, as a mother is absolutely inexcusable. Probably the only time in any anime/manga/movie whatsoever I wanted the character with a gun to shoot the perpetrator.

I would have preferred if they had actually built Charlotte's story more instead of cramming it all into one episode and expecting the audience to be invested in it. Her entire character just felt like an empty plot device.

Utterly stunned. This anime... I swear gets heavier as the episodes go by, so much so, it's actually feels tough to get through it. I did not expect that. God fucking dammit, I DESPISE that mother and her TWISTED 'values'. Death would had been so easy for her, but unfortunately, this is the punishment she's gonna have to endue for abusing her daughter's well-being like that. So sickening to see the mental decay slowly tear her down like that, especially from that dinner scene, followed by the next night of being taken advantage of so abruptly.

TO HELL WITH THESE NOBLES!

Just this once, I'll fulfill whatever your wish is.

Well, the hand-kiss was definitely a representative for something far more morbid. That was easily the best episode in the series so far, so powerful - I'm so proud of Rosalie, she not only realised the futility of an endless cycle of loss and revenge, but was kind enough to cry for a sister she barely even knew. Polignac breaking down after realising she had accidentally killed her old benefactor was also quite poignant - while she may have been portrayed in an evil light for being greedy, it wasn't so rare among the nobility in those days to use politics in order to further their House's status. If anything, she's really good at it - but by marrying her daughter so early, against her will, to an absolute cartoon villain was a terrible move - and she will pay dearly for it.

Thank god, Charlotte might be 11, but she actually seems to be norm- oh...

Idk how to feel, on one hand, this episode was actually (finally) pretty good, but on the other I think that Charlotte's death was way overboard, not to mention that her character was barely builded up.

I hoped Polignac to actually change a bit and stop that lolicon from marry her daughter, but I guess that some sweet karma is good as well.

I feel sorry for wtf'ing into laughing during the final scenes, but her crazy reaction into jumping was too good.

What a revelation, but Rosalie and Polignac are looking really similar to each other,so maybe not that surprising, at least compared to what happened afterwards. Charlotte taking her life was quite shocking, seemed like the better solution to her than being married with a pedo.. what a tragedy :/

I knew there was something going on after all the close-ups of Polignac and Rosalie, not really surprising.

As for Charlotte, it's true that we didn't have development nor episodes dedicated to her to even care about her character, but calling the situation her exagerated or whatever is stupid. Yeah, he only kissed her hand but he was going to marry her and she didn't an option. What, should she keep living there and let the man rape her? a kid? She probably didn't even think about running away and living as a poor woman since she was only 11 years old and after living a 'rich' life, she wouldn't even survive by herself. And look at the man's face when he meets her, he's probably into kids... disgusting. I feel sorry for her, first her mother and her actions and then this.

Polignac deciding that her eleven years old daughter should marry someone like that is quite something, what was she even thinking? They made Rosalie hear the truth right when it was found out, not sure how necessary this coincidence was compared to being patient with the characters.

Yep this must have been when Osamu Dezaki took over directing cause of the postcard memories and the suffering just got amped up alot of notches.

Spoiled myself on Rosalie being Polignac's daughter when I googled Martine Gabrielle in an earlier episode.Figured Rosalie wouldn't be able to kill her,but blood relations had nothing to do with it,Rosalie is just too kind of a soul.

Liked that Polignac showed regret over killing Nicole, but her marrying off Charlotte to a pedo was just stupid and she only has herself to blame for Charlotte's suicide.

Speaking of Charlotte's suicide it seemed excessive that she went crazy and killed herself over a kiss on the arm,if it had it been rape maybe yes, then again she probably knew that would eventually happen so she decide to just end it herself.

Didn't expect Rosalie to be really related to that Polignac, cruel fate indeed. Kinda wish Rosalie would have fired a round or two. Still good to see Polignac feeling guilt over killing Nicole who took care of her first child and grieving over Charlotte's suicide after marrying her off to a pedo.

Really emotional episode. I never thought that Rosalie was related to Polignac, that really shocked me. Polignac is the most character that I've hated in this, probably in any anime. She's such a disgusting person, How can she do that to her own daughter? Allowing her to marry a pedo like that... Poor Charlotte

Poor Charlotte. I hated the pedo duke. That kind of thing was widespread back in the day, but damn it's hard to see it even in a shoujo anime context. Poor girl.

The Rosalie thing I knew it was coming, I had suspected it for a while. They even look similar. Add more drama to the mix
