Aww this episode was kinda cute. That Shin guy gives a mysterious vibe all over him.

More bonding between Chaika and Tooru I suppose although their talk wasn't happy. Such a sad world where people die. I expect more action to pick up next time.

A nice episode filled with character development. Which is something I've been missing lately, not in Chaika, but in a lot of other anime series.

The flashbacks were nice as well, and give some more insight into the lives of Akari, and Toru. I'm pretty sure Shin will come back, he seems pretty important.

Poor Hasumin...

Next episode should be interesting, since they know where the remains are now...Just getting them will be the problem.

Those magical fireworks looked amazing.
Interesting episode, Gillette is probably still confused about Chaika's goal of gathering her father's remains.
Viivi's fortune made a lot of sense.
Tooru and Akari's backstory was also present in this episode, Hasumin had a pretty unfortunate fate though.
Tooru sure had a lot of motivation to become a saboteur.
The shop owner which they visited last was a nice guy, he even hinted out where some of Emperor Gaz' remains are.

Well we finally got a bit of character background on practically everybody on both sides chaikas and gillete's team members. I am more convinced that gillete will join them soon.

Just as i predicted 4 of the remains will be collected here and the other 4 will probably be collected in the second season with a huge climax to finish everything off.

There is still so much mystery in this show that it keep speculating what is actually going on. I am really starting to think that fall of the Gaz Empire has more to do with some sort of power grab and corruption.

Also there is the mystery why there are so multiple chaikas and what will actually happen once the reamins are all collected.

Chaika and Tooru have now obtained more magic fuel and the hunt for Emperor Gaz's remains is back on. Tooru and Akari's master Shin seems pretty interesting too I wonder if we will see him in future episodes.

Not much progress in this ep either. With those last two eps Hitsugi no Chaika lost the momentum it had created imo. This one gave me the feel of a slice of life anime. We get something of Toru's past, but still not anything special. The only difference before and after Hasumin's death was that before he wanted to kill and was happy about it while after he still wanted to kill just to kill. Anyway, this one let me down as the last one had. And damn it's hard to rebuild all that nice environment this series had before these 2 eps. 3/5

Seeing Toru's and Akari's past was nice, too bad we didn't find out anything about their parents. When Shin first appeared I thought he was Toru's older brother or something

Only a few more episodes to go, really curious to see where this season will end, I'm expecting some kind of major cliffhanger. Can't be long until Gilette joins them

The pyrospheres, I was just going to call fireworks.
Toru and Akari's background from Toru's perspective.
Learning about Shin and Haumi. I wonder if we could see his mentor.
Seeing their childhood was great.
I wonder what is that urgent mission all about.
To use memories as fuel... and getting information about a body piece from buying magic fuel!

Memories can be used as an alternative to magic fuel? O.o
If so, I wonder if Chaika's memories were used in the past. That'd explain her memory gap.

Nice reminiscing of the past. Toru went through some solid training.
Little Akari was cute! Though I like her as a grown up more. ;)
How she gave a dog whistle to Chaika if Toru were to turn into a 'wolf'. XD

Toru's memories of Hasumin were quite sad. Perhaps, she never praised him because she didn't want Toru to become a saboteur..

New information on the remains of Gaz Emperor at Duke Gavarni's territory, same place where the floating fortress Soara is currently located.

Good episode. Looking forward to the fortress episode next week. PV looks interesting!

Character and world development was nice but felt rather insignificant at times e.g. fortune cookie scene felt unnecessary as it didn't add anything we didn't already know - that is, Vivi has the hots for Gilette.

Looks like there is a lack of Magic Fuel! D: Toru and Chaika head to many shops, end up at the last shop, and finally got some fuel!
Also! Some important info on the location of some remains~! Sweet~!

So can't wait for the next episode~! x3

Chaika used her memories as fuel. So, that's explained why Chaika lost her memory.

It was good to hear the childhood of Toru and Akari.

Toru's past was sad.

Wow, we get lots of character development for Toru and Akari, during their childhood, and to why he is so bloodthirsty for a war. A sad past that he had but still he kept on going forward.

Guess Chaika still have memories to attain, but I hope she will recover them, now time to get the remaining parts of the emperor.

Tooru's past was sad but it was nice to see the reason why he's so driven to protect Chaika as well as being a saboteur.

Akari was already clingy to Tooru even as a child. Some things never change I guess haha. The dog whistle bit made me laugh :p

Considering Chaika might lose her memory, doesn't that means that her Father might still be alive, referring back to 1st eps, isnt that guy looks like her dad?

- If Emperor Gaz already live for more than 300 years, doesnt that means Chaika also older than she actually is? I don't think she's 14.
- Is it possible if she used up too many magic/memories, her body shrunk into a kid?
- there is also possibility she is not the real chaika.
- she might used to have a vast amount of her power, but then 'something' happen makes her lost her memories, or Emperor Gaz did something to her?

- If Emperor Gaz is still alive, then the remains might had been his clone where he store his vast amount of power.
- Shin do looks as someone important, maybe Tooru will fight him as enemy later.. tehehehe

After episode 9, I can safely say that Hitsugi no Chaika has one of the most compelling plots and best cast of characters of any show I'm watching this season.

I really liked this episode just from a character development standpoint. Not only did it tell a lot behind Toru's motivations, but it also goes to show just how hardened he'd become from the war. Even though he told Chaika such a painful memory, he showed no emotion whatsoever. I'm actually somewhat interested in how he became so physically and mentally hardened. Same with Akari as well. We could see as a child that she was much more emotional and rambunctious.

Dat foreshadowing in those fortune cookie... Why do you spoil fortune cookie?!
The real question now : will Vivi be able one day to get in Gilette pants?!?! I doubt it...

Chaika being Chaika. But we learned something very important, about her memory lost. Could it also be related to her odd speech? Like she forgot her class lesson x)

Along the lines of what happens before, there are relevant facts, but of secondary importance when compared to the mystery of the elusive king and Chaika Gaz!
Drawings pleasant, Akari less morbid than usual and a minimum of substrate character on the secondary characters, however, make it enjoyable episode itself.
The idea of ââmaking the fuel magical memories, I seem to have heard such an idea, if I'm not mistaken.
Not very original idea instead of showing the discontent of the population, as something which you did not know the know.
It seems that you want to pass in anime, the idea that people always want to keep in the dark in real life, things that in reality almost always happens, but there's also those who look beyond their own nose.
Animations not bad.
