Most of the people I knew/was friends with are inactive now so MAL forums are dead to me for the most part. If you're reading this and we never talked before, just two things:
I do not accept random friend requests. I will respond to most profile comments as soon as I am able to, however, so feel free to talk :)
Ancient 'about me' section. Most of it is from 2013-2014, go figure.
Some stuff about me
I'm Awesome.
I am just a 27 29 year old engineer who watches anime because it's fun.
I rate mainly based on how much I liked/enjoyed what I watched.
*Removed obnoxiously huge nonsense about ratings*
SIMPLY PUT:
10- Favorite.
9- Brilliant.
8- Great.
7- Good.
6- Average or slightly above average; fine.
5- Average or slightly below average; meh.
4- Boring.
3- Bad.
2- Shit.
1- Mars of Destruction.
I try to stay away from shows I might give less than 5 based on my first impressions and the public's opinion on them. But I may watch such shows anyway out of curiosity (and regret doing so later). I enjoy almost everything I watch.
This doesn't apply 100% to everything. But it should give people some idea on why I rated a show the way I did.
Scores may go up or down after:
Re-watching the show.
Taking some time to think about it more and/or discussing it with other people.
Getting or not getting a sequel, if I thought it needs one.
Finally:
WrongPriest said: Brotato might, but that's just because his scoring system is only for the brofistiest of bros.
If you don't agree with one of my scores, it is fine. each person has his/her own opinion after all. But feel free to leave a comment/send a PM if you want to discuss a certain series.
Type-Moon said: Gen Urobuchi
Abilities:-
He is noted for his Reality Marble, Dead End Catharsis: Heaven & Hell Drop ( 地獄極楽おとしデッドエンド・カタルシス , ?), which lowers the luck of all characters in his stories by one rank, but the effect is lessened somewhat in Fate/Zero due to the "Kinoko Dimension" also taking place in Fuyuki. It lowered the effect, making it so all those who can survive will definitely live, a very reasonable, considerate measure that happens very rarely in Urobuchi's world.
I only watched the first season also. I think it's less that sex is prevalent; I personally don't care, it's basically just the presentation is really crude and unappetizing for me. And yeah I agree with Slime it's like very inoffensive in that regard.
I think the historical references in GuP are w.e. I liked the fact that it was basically Saki (the mahjong anime) but with tanks. The tanks I cared less about (fst cares more) because I don't know much of anything about them, but it's just a fun show; good for what it was.
Re: Attention span, I agree I think everyone feels that drain these days. I myself feel it. You just need to keep your mind active, I think, doing shit that like keeps you focused for longer without resorting to scrolling on Tiktok/twitter/wherever else.
I think depression among authors is a silly trend people make up. It's not real. I think it's something people used to believe because some of the most famous people were depressed/suicidal af. It's daijobu :)
Re: What I hated about Mushoku.....I think it's just clear that this has been written by someone who has never had a normal interaction with a human being. The obsession with sex is super weird. It just seems like such a massive waste to devote so much resources to making this anime look so good. The way it blends the OP/ED with the actual story, it's like I wish an actual good anime got this treatment. I think no matter how weeby slime gets, it just gets a pass because it never takes itself that seriously and I do think it rides the comfy line a lot better even if it is just isekai schlock at the end of the day.
I never shilled GuP I watched it like last year. Fst might have, so maybe you misremembered something he was talking about.
Re: Socializing, I agree it's pretty easy to socialize as opposed to starting a new anime. I actually have difficulty starting a new game or a new anime these days. Probably not for the same reason I just think about the general commitment of going through the entire thing, on top of the opportunity cost (Oh, I won't be able to read/write), and it dissuades me from starting. Now, I say that, but I basically played like 5 games back to back recently, but I think I just needed a break from writing so I took that and now I'm back to it. It's mostly just a balancing act between being "productive" and other stuff I suppose.
And yeah I think that's why I never meshed with most anime watchers I knew IRL. Yes, part of it is they watch a lot of entry level stuff so you feel like you're chatting with someone that you've chatted with like 20 times over the last 5-6 years, but I also think the capacity for people to discuss these shows has definitely fallen off a cliff. Maybe it's TikTok or Discord or whatever, but people dont' have it in them to write walls of text anymore. At least I don't.
Re: board games, I think the good news is things are kind of(?) coming back? There was a store I went to with a friend recently called like....Gatcha or something which was just some arcade and it was packed to the brim with people. The arcade was in an American mall and for context both malls and arcades have effectively died in the US they are not a thing anymore, so it was pleasantly surprising to see both the mall and the arcade being more vibrant than before. I wanna say the average person wants to go out, even years after COVID, because it's like well you gotta make the best of when you can go out and socialize/meet new people.
Just practice and reading. I don't like a lot of author podcasts, most of the authors I really admire are either dead or they're not public figures. And yes, one of my webnovels made semifinals, another one made the finals. :)
Re: Anime watching, yeah I actually just watch a lot of isekai these days. They're all honestly pretty bad but they're mindless fun if I'm not doing anything serious. I actually watched Mushoku Tensei a while back and I kinda hated it lol, like moreso than the usual stuff that I watch and that's saying something. But Slime is fine, like it's pretty light hearted and (mostly) doesn't take itself too seriously. It's been a while since I watched an anime I really really liked though. Actually, Girls und Panzer was unironically quite good.
Re: Covid, I don't think Trump has anything to do with it. I think it's more that I got comfortable with not needing a lot of social interaction (not that I needed much to begin with) and speaking online with people. I think it's cool that you're doing a lot of these like tactile social events though (board games, stuff you do outside, dnd soon perhaps). Ironically enough, those are some of the things that died with Covid. DND/Board game shops just went out of business because you can't convince people to go back to the store as readily, so nice to hear that you've found your group and you're all willing to go out.
Nothing published yet. I've made the final round/semifinals of a few webnovel competitions but no wins yet. Not really focused on publishing so much as getting better. Once I'm good enough something will be published so I'm not very worried. If anything does get published and it's readily accessible I'll let you know. :)
I watch a lot of trash anime. This is my elitist brian talking but I have basically watched everything I feel like I needed to watch with regards to """goood""" anime and now I just enjoy just bottom of the barrel garbage because they are lowkey entertaining. I think I really just like watching stupid isekai because they have like silly stakes and it's kind of funny seeing the work of people who have either extremely unhealthy or little to no interaction with real human beings.
That's great to hear re: your circle of friends, speaking of interaction with real human beings. It is in fact very good and happy for you in that regard. :) I used to go out a lot more but I think COVID reduced my capacity/tolerance for interaction with other people outside. Or maybe that's just me preferring to stay home and read or play games over anything else.
Well, I say play games but I've played maybe only a handful of games a year up until this summer where I blitzed through like 4 titles back to back.
It's been great. I can't complain. I spent the last few years writing a lot. Wrote a couple books, some short stories. I wage a lot more though these days so I don't have as much time for gaming/anime, but I watch some shit every once in a while (no, I don't watch anything good).
I keep in touch with a few people. Fst. Kokko. Feaor. PoeticJustice. Ckan obviously. Sape occasionally. Azure. I'll let them know you said hi. You doing well, yourself?
Yeah Dawnbreaker was just introduced. She kinda looks like a LoL hero to me and with her being a bit too shiny.
Oh damn yeah 300 matches is really few for DotA. I have something like almost 2000 matches and I only started playing DotA 2 at around 2016 or 2017 (I played the OG DotA before and stopped when I went to college).
So you mostly play unranked so that's why you're uncalibrated?
I did stop for a few days then the new quest update had me logging in. Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in lmao
