Gonna be honest, I didn't like this one as much as the first one.
The main reason is that I felt lost through most of the episode, thinking that they were trying to convey something important, but not quite understanding what, and the more dialogues they added, the more lost I felt.
I might change my opinion on this episode depending on the payoff in future episodes.
Also, the scene where he 'saves' her at the end felt quite strange to me and came out of left field imo: I thought they were trying really hard the entire episode to avoid cliches/tropes as much as possible, which is pretty cool, and here we get that, and it seems it will get them closer (maybe?).

This is not to say that I disliked everything about this episode.
The characters feel realistic (even if maybe a bit too mature/philosophical for their age) for the most part, and I enjoyed the simple discussions at the tennis court, and the one where he gets confused about her 'job' in his bedroom haha.
When all is said and done, I think I'll still probably end up liking the show, and I have no doubt some really interesting moments are coming, it's just that this particular episode writing felt really convoluted to me.

Again I can’t get over how much like a Jdrama this feels, and that’s great! It’s so grounded, mature and character driven rather than the usual fanservice, horny teens and gag comedy step sibling stories. This LN has been hyped for so long and finally getting to see what it’s about, I can say the hype was justified just from these first two eps.

I keep wanting to learn more and more about Saki, they’ve done a great job of drip feeding information, but not revealing too much too soon. Makes her such an interesting character. I knew she’d been dealing with some trauma and given her gyaru aesthetic assumed that people at school were probably giving the good old “slut rumours”, but what made me even more sad was seeing that it didn’t just stop at her.. even her mom’s been given that treatment.

People are so judgemental of others who they haven’t even spoken to or got to know, it’s gross. Hearing you and your mom talked about in such a way could lead any young person to kinda just embrace what people are calling them. Like how Saki doesn’t dispute the “rumours” when guys in school come up to her.

The misunderstanding about “selling herself” with the MC was good, but the funniest thing in that scene is Saki asking for a job that she can work for an hour or two a week that makes 70 bucks ๐Ÿ’€ if only.. donating plasma probably your best bet in that case.

The OST is so good during the tennis convo scene! Love how understated it is and it just compliments the realistic voice acting style. Speaking of which, minor detail but I love Yuuta’s classmate’s voice is just a chill deep realistic tone when he’s describing the rumours about saki. Take kimizero for example which has some similar themes and the MC’s friends are a bunch of horny squeaker nerds getting excited about the rumours with Runa. It’s always nice when characters sound like real people.

Ending scared tf out of me, thought she was gonna get isekai’d there, they skipped ahead a bit so I’m not sure how she got out of that..should’ve known something was up when she said at dinner it “would be easy if they weren’t so nice”

Great ep

I loved the fact that the anime is still following the slow theme... which is not a bad thing. There are very few anime which progress so slow yet doesn't feel boring or routine. They're talking with each other every day and she also started making breakfast and dinner for him and I simply love it. Their misunderstanding was also very funny. It's just been two episodes but I already see them getting closer.
. Overall a very good ep

If this really turns into a full blown romance between the two, i feel like it will hit different with all this methodical slow build, i'm excited if it's actually coming to that.

I’m ngl I thought Saki was trying to off herself when I first watched that truck scene, especially how the dinner scene ended with her saying it would be easier if Yuuta and his dad were terrible people, but upon a 2nd watch on my screenshot run I realized the walk sign was green and she just had earbuds in, definitely dangerous to cross the street like that, I can see why Yuuta was pissed afterward, perhaps Saki was cranking up the 7/9/95 So Many Roads lol, I’d completely understand not being able to pause that. But besides that, quite the interesting episode where we learn more about Saki and how she’s trying to be independent, I definitely get that, it’s just her reasons for it are sad but the hard truth, people are very judgmental.

And when it came to those rumors about Saki, it started out as a serious situation when Maru filled Yuuta in on the rumors, but this lead to a funny scene of Yuuta completely misunderstanding Saki about “selling her body” which lightened the mood lol. And despite the whole secret relationship thing they were trying to pull off, I wonder what this red haired babe Maaya is gonna think when Yuuta walked out of the shower lol, perhaps she already knows but I’m still looking forward to the next one. And we got that Kitri ED this episode, it sounded nice but I’m waiting to hear it with the visuals, I gotta hear this masterful composition in the front of the audio mix!

Ok so after the first episode was so depressing I had to reach out to local mental health providers to keep myself from hurling my body off the tallest local building I decided to go read the manga… I really wish I had a friend or acquaintance who was Japanese so they could confirm or deny that THIS is how 17 y/o Japanese youths think and act.. ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿป‍โ™‚๏ธ No spoilers but let’s just say not much is going to happen in this season. We have 2 kids who both have parents that have been through a divorce. This event has effected them so deeply that both need EXTENSIVE psychiatric care in order to lead normal lives. Both children wholeheartedly believe that allowing themselves to be happy about ANYTHING, even the smallest thing, is on the same level as killing an entire pediatric ward of babies.. it’s beyond silly and just plain strange. Neither of these have been abused, mistreated, neglected, or any major reason that would justify this intense desire to see any kind of happiness as the greatest evil one could commit. The strangest thing (for me anyway) is how the author flip flops from them acting like 35 year olds who’ve finally given up on their dreams to 12 year olds that balk at the most basic level of communication. We’ve seen this literally a million times in anime. They like each other but by god the sun will burn out before they tell each other anything. The entire story is so strange and awkward I kept waiting for some giant twist like one would kill or assault the other. I was 17 once. My parent went through a divorce. Sure I acted out some but it was a far cry to the dumpster fire our 2 mc’s are going through. Either way there’s no reason to strap in for this ride as the vehicle will only be traveling about 6mph lol.

I will say that to you , why the author turned them to 30 years old , you know the divorce is just a thing in a life But, when it comes with bad memories you can't take it out from your mind , you make your life disaster, and wished you want to disappear or non depend on any one , and that's they had to go on their life , but to make you surprise, in LN , they go through it together and they are fine now and they return to their own ages , so don't be sad , they are back to life, because of their love

The perfect blend of commentary & character driven plot. Each & every scene have minute details that tell us more about the characters. From the background lighting to the music choice. Every aspect of this show is immaculate. Reminds me of other melancholic shows & how they handle dialogue and atmosphere.

Bonus points for this episode having a raining scene.

Still not sure how to feel about this show.

It kinda tries to give context and message about how these teens feel, but at times it has the subtlety of a sledgehammer, like when Saki has to explain word per word about her attire and how it serves as armor for every day endurance. Same issue using her mother as an example of society and it's views on people with no higher education.

There's also how lifeless their house environment feels, from the exact same static shots reusing the same backgrounds (almost feels like I'm watching a prehistoric Hanna & Barbera cartoon). Along with the lack of background music on their in house conversations, if at least their dialogues were more interesting/substancial it would kinda feel justified, but imho they aren't. There's the juxtaposition where the senpai gets all the sakuga effort with detailed and playful animation. I do get it that the director is trying to convey the message of life outside those 4 walls, but it's a bit too much on the nose.

I love how relaxing this episode to watch in the evening. There's not much of that grand music in the first episode, but now it allows conversations not to be drowned by background music and leaves some subtle and almost quiet sounds to match the mood.

The highlight really is their conversations, though I wouldn't want a SHAFT treatment here. Deen is good enough.

I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't explain why Saki is on her earphones. Hint: It's not music. Perhaps it will be explained in the following episode.

The truck scene just confuses me so much.
The way he scolds her afterwards make it sound like she's purposefully walked in front of the truck, but it sounds like that only in this specific scene, so idk if I'm reading too much into this

and then we cut to their P.E. classes (I don't really know if it's even supposed to be the same day), fmc doesn't skip the classes this time and honestly idk if there's any significance to that change at all or if this is somehow supposed to connect to the other scene

This anime is a pleasant surprise. Knowing only the title and synopsis i was thinking another cliched' quasi-incest rom-com. But nothing like that has happened, so far. And even if it does turn toward romance between the leads, they are surprisingly mature young folk. Maybe too mature. They sound like adults that have had disappointing love affairs and are now "Once burned, twice shy".
Ayase is an intriguing character. How did she end up so fiercely, thoughtfully independent? I don't feel the same depth in Asamura but at least he isn't a standard issue brainless, nervous Nellie.
Even the animation and art direction is above average. Looking forward to more of this story.

Both Saki and Yuta are so attractive lol this anime is starting to get boring though, its too slow IMO. Is this actually a romance? (Date stamp: June 10th) also, why didn't they just share an umbrella lol

But Saki is so right, people just hate women for existing. Like either way, we aren't going to win.

Does anyone know why CR is an episode behind?

EP 2

Its kinda weird because. so people were talking about the water and the lights in ep 1, and ep 2 continues directly on the next day soo. glub
saki intensifies

The ed is kinda eh i guess

So ep 2, im not overtly into the whole thing yet, it seems the whole thing is like a slow burn

And we get a cliffhang OF COURSE goddammit it
The pacing of the anime as a whole seems to be really slow right now
In this ep, we see that saki clearly has a LOT on her mind, which I assume is going to take up almost the entire anime. and the other characters, who knows.
I mean we all know its only a matter of time, but how things go, it really is up to ep 3
