| I wasn't expecting all the shitty sex scenes but overall it looks good. Ryo goes to an orgy fest to look for some demons and think it's not demonic enough, stabs and cuts up some people like a fucking demon and turns his timid, cherry boy-boyfriend into Devilman. The drugs in this series look like the stationary capsules my niece uses to write notes with. I'm guessing Akira was possessed by Amon. I keep thinking of Amon from Ao no Exorcist whenever I think of the demon AMON. |

Lol I thought Netflix does not tolerate shit like this just 2 weeks ago I downloaded all episodes of that anime hajimete gal and the very first scene was a censored panty shot I immediately bailed out and deleted it all. What a shame. Anyway, I've heard good things about this one so I'm expecting a lot here. |

| this is just bad, i kept repeating the scenes with akira and ryo hugging. that's not the focus of the show, damn you, myself. stop it! stop it! also, is akira changed forever? can't believe we only got to see one episode worth of him as a green pea sweet empathetic crybaby. make way for growth spurt devil buttchin. both are great by the way. i guess. not that it wasn't anything i expected, but i had a hard time continuing with all the shit going on in the club, i am so squirmy when it comes to this kind of imagery and it lowkey gave me nam flashbacks of perfect blue. a.k.a the film that scarred me for life. it's still a great anime, i'll have to keep truckin' on at the cost of my sanity. *crosses my hands together whilst my house is burning down* commence episode two. oh. and HOW did i forget to mention anything about the beginning of the episode? that intro with the crying and how there was like a dog that died, woof man. woof. it was then and there that it got my attention so hard, it took my attention by the neck and slammed it on the ground, it said "listen here, punk, you're gonna like this anime and you goddamn know it" because i goddamn knew it |

| I have so much to say but it's all too cryptic right now. I love the show don't tell nature and the fast pacing! It reminds me of FLCL in a way. The scene where Miki went the back way, Akira followed her immediately and surprised her with the boat only to leave her there and go with Ryo after a hug especially. The way it intertwined the two phone scenes with the shady guy(manager?) who was looking to sleep with Miki and was on the phone speaking about the Sabbath as well. There's so much going on that it doesn't tell us clearly, but from what I've seen so far it seems like it's all linked and structured with great purpose. This meaning after a few watches, I'm sure you'd be able to explain why each scene was positioned where it was, and why the characters would lead the story to them in the manner they do. Beyond excited to continue this. Three things that fascinate me about Ryo and Akira are: 1. The fact that Ryo goes against literally everything else the anime does in the structure of storytelling. Whereas everything else this episode was fast paced and didn't leave room for exposition, it forced us to connect the dots, Ryo is the opposite. He expresses things clearly with exposition, telling us the story, that he's driving without a license, telling us about demons, how to summon them, how they coexist with humans, about his trip to the amazon. He also narrates quite clearly about how he was trying to make Akira merge with Amon. It feels unnatural for these two elements of the storytelling to conflict like they do, but I almost guarantee this has to be purposeful. I'm quite interested in this contrast! 2. The fact that Ryo is so ultra violent. As a kid he tried to kill the cat because it was dying anyways. Ever since he was young he held the, "the weak die [because they're weak]" view, and now the view that you should focus on what makes you strong. Why run when creatures will always outrun you, use weapons and vehicles to survive. He shoots at freestyle rappers and carries a machine gun, and he slaughtered a large amount of people to summon a devil. This world hasn't been ultra violent, it's only Ryo. Because of that, it's not just the way he expositions the story telling us it, it's also the way he interacts with the world so violently that contrast him and everything else. The 'normal' world at least, we've seen the devil who possessed the super-high schooler kill, and the sabbath orgy of course. 3. Lastly, I'm fascinated by the relationship between Ryo and Akira. They have been friends since they were kids even though Ryo was 'despised' and Akira was a cry baby. We can also infer that they haven't seen each other for a long time by the way Akira left behind his frantic plans with Miki for him and gave him a huge hug. Was it because he was in the amazon that they haven't seen each other for awhile, or was it something even before that? Clearly they're distinctly different but close friends. The way Akira happily told Ryo, who said he needed his help to investigate demons, that he trusted him and agreed with a big smile, was one of the big moments that made me question their relationship. It seemed like he was overly grateful for being asked to do something dangerous. I'm interested to learn more about it. Oh and the amount of love in each shot is great. Each time I watch a scene I see something new like the guys stretching on the bleachers or the bj in the back of sabbath. This is an anime for multiple watches. |
| I finally got around to watching this and I can say that I really liked this first episode. It did a great job pulling me into the series. the animation is different but good different. It's a nice change from the usual art style we get with "newer" type anime. You know the style I'm talking about right? I always felt like the new anime we got all felt and looked the same so I'm happy we get something different this time around. The art itself actually reminds me of The Tatami Galaxy a bit and maybe a bit of Ping Pong The Animation? I'm excited to continue this series because I think I will really enjoy it. |

| This was a weird one. I don't really know where it would go, I mean, gore, sex, drugs, it's not a problem, I guess if they wanted to go the devilish way, those are some questionable but fitting concepts to discuss as well, I'm liking this one. Not only is the plot strange and with a not too wide topic, the art work's choice is really intriguing, it looks simplistic, doesn't show much, but it manages to tell so much more. So, I'm guessing the hero (The crybaby dude) and probably the Antagonist (The devil man) are going to share the same body, either way, neat concept, but maybe, Akira will fall under the case of humans controlling the devil powers. |
