I was excited for this when they showed the preview at the Crunchyroll awards but the first episode felt pretty meh. I'll stick with it but it already feels pretty average, at best.

Jesus Christ, ppl who are writing the reviews and voting right after the first episode, I honestly wanna know how your process of thinking looks like!!

there is a fucking discussion thread for every and each episode, do you really have the urge to write a whole anime review based on one episode smh

That's why it shows how many episodes the reviewer watched.

As you can tell, I clearly stated "why are they reviewing after the first episode?" which means I know how many episodes the reviewer has seen already. So your information was so unneeded but thanks anyways for trying to be useful.

Between Mars Red and this, I like this one more. It looks much better. While the story in Mars Red seems to be more promising, the colors are so damn bad there. I blame direction for that.

Also will this be weekly? And how many episodes?
Asking cause anichart lists it as ONA.

The overall art was really pretty and kinda unique although it looks like some sort of mid 2000 stuff trying to be artsy but failing horribly. Aside from that few seconds scene at the beginning with the little girl eating which has great character animation, the overall animation especially the fights look like shit. Music was decent with decent voice performances although nothing special. Not gonna say much about the story now, let's see where it takes us. I was really hyped for it, but not really feeling it now.

first episode was good, elena and yuki are absolutely beautiful. i hope we get to see more of yuki’s transformation, the blue smoke skull thing was so cool. and that little girl, i wonder what her actual relationship is with yuki (if i’m not mistaken yuki said they weren’t sisters right). i’m not a huge fan of historical animes but i’m rlly hooked on the animation, i hope this series does well

And this is how you make trashy seinen.
Like there are enough interesting ideas and concepts but the execution is a bit uneven and sloppy at times.
Also too much edginess for my taste and I hate the "Did you get this detail we putted too much focus on it? It will become very very important later!".

How can it be a seinen if it is an anime original? Anyway I somewhat agree, it definitely felt weird/meh at times

I'm not trying to be helpful. You are being unreasonable. People who watched 1 episode wrote a review for that one episode, not the whole series as you state. It's obvious, the people review ONE episode. Not to mention that anime rarely gets better over more episodes. The score is +-2 from the first episode. And this one has awful direction which won't be better. This is a 6-7 at most.

Ok thank you for being unhelpful!

what part of what I said is unreasonable? the review section is to give thorough feedback about a specific show not about the first episode! It is called common sense dude. unfortunately, there is no such thing called "review for that episode" on this website, and that is why there is a discussion thread for every episode, so you don't overwhelm the system.

and lastly here is a piece of MAL review guidelines, which I think every early reviewer needs to print out on their keyboard, so they get reminded every time before wasting their time in writing a review that will be taken down in less than 24 hours because it is just not the appropriate time or place for it:

Review text should not be submitted until the:
4th episode has been viewed for TV series one cours (~13 eps) in length;
6th episode has been viewed for TV series two cours (~26 eps) in length;
8th episode has been viewed for TV series three cours (~39 eps) in length;
10th episode has been viewed for TV series four cours (~52 eps) or longer in length.

Very Interesting firs ep, the visuals are nice as well as the soundtrack. So the weapons are based of animals? Thats very interesting. Curious about what the story is gonna be.

I didn't know anything about the anime coming in, only that it was an alternate version of Japanese history. I liked it.

The first thing that stood out was the art style and the character designs, and the animation was pretty good.

This first episode presented really interesting characters in a very interesting world (kinda reminds me of Akuma Drive, which also messed with Japanese history and had its setting in a cyberpunk-ish setting). There are some characters that I don't like yet, like the pretty boy and the nymphomaniac lady but it isn't really a problem for me. I'll keep watching to see what's up.

I expected something similar to CLAMP edge and I think I am getting that. Magical girl and dark with historical. This is like your Tokyo Babylons, X1999 or like Blood+ . Stuff like that. I didn’t feel this show was “for men” but rather for older girls and women.

Didn’t expect nor want a shounen. I don’t like Yaiba.

Hmm an age where the shogun continues to rule well into the 30's. Thats quite the long rule. Just like her namesake Yuki's sure is quite the distant person. Locations are pretty nice though and it combined the traditional Japanese setting with modern tech. And serving as a effective setting for the team of assassins that work in the background. The gear that they have sure was quite impressive. So the new part time job that Yuki's friend had was that of a test subject. Its unfortunate that she was forced to face and cut down her one time friend though. Yuki's motivation for revenge sure was quite the traumatic one. Overall an interesting opening ep that combined excellent World intro with action. I think the only thing im not sure about though is the transformation scene's art style. Curious at what will happen next week. Pretty nice ending theme though.

Felt like the resolution dropped a little bit in the mid-section of the episode, can't decide whether it was my crappy net or just a thing in the anime.

Besidea that, i hope this anime does well and gets the studio on track. They're new and if their first work becomes a success it could be indicitive of its upcoming works.

That wasn't too bad. So what we have is a story about a girl who wants revenge against a guy from some corrupt government organization. It has assassins but also some magical elements with certain people who have combined with animals. Our protagonist has a white crow, the bad guy has a snake, etc. Could be intersting I suppose.

The music wasn't too bad, had a nice jazz song before the meeting and I enjoy that old Japanese style music.

The little sister was a total angel. Praying she stays safe the entire series and doesn't die.

I feel as though this would be better if it had the same budget and direction that something like Demon Slayer had, which feels very similar to this in tone and atmosphere. But hopefully this turns out to be something good.

That was really good. The animation is beautiful.

I hope they explain more about how Sawa got this power in the next episode.

The animation is beautiful, but not sure about the story yet. Like...OK, its an alternate universe where the Tokugawa never lost their power, but then why still call it Meiji...kind of rubs me the wrong way since it's the exact period after the bakufu ended for good and everything went in a completely new direction, so having this period mixed with Shougun feels really weird. They probably didn't think too much about, idk.

Also not sure what to think about the supernatural elements - all 'real life' events look fine, but the fantasy parts look kind of...childish? I'll keep watching for now and see how it goes.

Man Im going to be honest with you I reaaaally didnt like the first episode. From the way they introduced characters in a way that you dont even feel connected or care about them in any way,Theres shock factor with no value behind it and most of all it felt ... lazy. I was really hyped after seeing the trailer but the first episode let me down. Especially for production value??? It seemed the animation was going to be cooler but it was so underwhelming.

Not too impressed. I like samurai stuff. And Tokuwaga still in power ... seemed cool. But the fantasy/supernatural stuff ... is not too my taste here. Maybe it will get better once they explain a bit more about it. There seems to be some kind of resource which the Shogunate controls. Maybe responsible for turning into such beasts.

Need to watch 1-2 more episodes to decide. But I guess I'll watch Mars Red (also a bit earlier in the era and seems more "normal" - except the vampries) and drop this one here.

Also: Chars here did not seem to interesting. Maybe just some introduction episode to show action - for people that like it - and more info and slower in episode 2. We'll see.

Definitely style over substance so far. Too much going on. Hopefully they'll elaborate in episode 2. I doubt they'll expand secondary characters in any fashion later on - they will most likely exist to provide the 'cool' factor.

My guess is that the shogunate initiated reforms and ended the sakoku, hence the era was named 'Meiji' = 'enlightened reign'.

I definitely agree with the complaints that the direction is clumsily handled. The dialogue is shallow, the faces of the characters who got slaughtered look comical and it feels edgy.

The Princess of Bushiroad has her new franchise.

It was quite nice actually but felt corporate. Everything feels engineered rather than genuine.

(English) Our protagonist Yukimura has a sad past. Because of her brother's death, she has a desire for revenge that has yet to be explained. It's really interesting to see that Jouran manages to show this sadness and melancholy quickly and objectively, even though it's a very mysterious episode. Yukimura's group, Nue, is a group hidden in the darkness that protects local politics and government, as well as acting within the shadows. At the same time this is summoned, it is exposed to the existence of monsters with a blue blood type....

Oops... Yukimura has the same blood. Is she a non-human creature?

Who really is Janome?

There are so many questions, but at the same time, it's captivating.

And Asahi is a happy, outgoing character with her sister, but she looks so young compared to Yukimura's past. It's like a sister far from her time. We may have something deeper than this.
