I've been watching this series since the beginning and haven't been that into it in part because I'm not the biggest sci-fi/mecha fan--I've been enjoying it, but it's never been a "I can't wait for next week's episode" type of show--but this last episode sucker punched me into realizing I actually have grown attached to some of these characters and was more invested than I thought. I really liked Biscuit and, despite the death being somewhat written on the wall, his death hit me harder than I expected and lead to the sighing of a specific expletive. Needless to say, but I'm going to say it anyway, making "Needless to say" the needless thing to say, for the first time after watching an episode of Iron-Blooded Orphan, I was left thinking one thing: "I can't wait for next week's episode."

Can't stop asking myself the same question.

Funnily enough, the death flags at the beginning were so heavy that they had me thinking "Naaah, too obvious, man; no way in HELL that could happen lol" instead of actually having me worried. So when the sky darkened and Namida started playing I actually flipped the fuck out.
Anyway, regardless of how heavy handed the foreshadowing was, I think the scene in question was handled really well (at least much better than Masahiro's death, which went way too far into melodramatic territory): Biscuit's last monologue was to-the-point and very impactful, and the fact that he was so determined to survive this and get out of here made his death all the more saddening. I would say Carta can go to hell, but it seems like Mika's taking care of that already: at this point only a divine intervention could save that bitch.

In any case, Merribit and Kudelia will have a lot of conforting to do in the next episodes, cause Mika and Orga are fckin broken right now.

The only thing that's keeping me sane right now is the fact that Orga is SEXY as FUCK!

My love affair with 2D guys will never die!

I think he's pretty good looking too, though I prefer Akihiro simply because he has more of that bara muscular look. ;)
Space Guts looks indeed reaaally good, but Orga's got that tan that a girl simply can't resist (tanned skins are my ultimate weakness x) ).

Well that was sad, I didn't expect this coming from the last episode though but this episode constantly gave signs about Biscuit would gonna die soon from his attitude and dialogue with Orga while I was watching it. But in the end it still made me sad though, RIP Biscuit.

Anyway the battle was awesome, it's undeniable that Mikazuki and Barbatos got the attention but for me Akihiro and Gusion Rebake still stand out of the crowd. The battlefield seems like a stage for rebake to show off. And I laughed it hard when Akihiro shot at Carta's squad when they were still on their ridiculous pose. I'm allowed to shoot, right? LOL, of course you are.

Biscuit's death was inevitable with the amount of death flags he had this episode.

I wish they played ending song #2 during his death though. It would be much more emotional IMO.

I kind of feel this way too, i remmember both me and my friend were talking about how that Ed and its outro would work really well for any depressing ending scenes so its weird that they went for the more hype ed 1

Biscuit... The one who had the most to lose. I'm actually happy they switched back to the ending song #1. I was already thinking the second one wouldn't work for a scene like this.

Well SHIT. There aren't many of the other characters I developed an emotional investment in.

Most anime I like have character development, "Laugh out loud" moments and something that makes me cry so badly that my throat hurts. Orga seems to have changed the way he thinks of himself, Mika seems to ACTUALLY be phased by a death .... the "I'm allowed to shoot, right?" moment made me laugh enough to wake the neighbors, that is if the VERY last scene hasn't woken them with my sobbing.

Just.... wow. All three things for an emotional rollercoaster in one episode. Sure, the Fumitan episode was up there, but THIS... I'm not sure the show will be able to top it, not with all of the background they'd given Biscuit.

Lots of death flags, built up little by little in previous episodes for Biscuit. It was expected and really sad, but I didn't expect him to die the episode right after his bro died. Biscuit's dying moment, his words, struggle, Mika's reaction, and Orga's pain were so amazing with feels.
Maybe I missed it completely, Gusion Rebake extra arms & rear axe storage were awesome in combat. And Akihiro's gar double cannon going against cruisers. Maintenance at 3:19 looks really cool.
Noticed old engineer always had great VA, hope he lives.
Some good tactics, ambush, & pre-planning on the fights.
Mika using some Nutcracker!? Katana's too classy for him, so he likes all the big savage weapons for Barbatos.

This is exactly what happened to me. Biscuit went on about discussing their future and such and I thought to myself "oh dear, another death flag" and moved right along as if it never happened because I expected them to subvert it this time... Then cue the ending and I'm doubting it all the way up to the last moment when his head falls thinking "There's no way they'll actually do it; they're laying it on way too thick for them to actually do it". Moments later, genuine surprise.

Aggh, and I really liked Biscuit too. I got a bit of eye moistening out of it, but no tearing up or crying.

Anyway, foreshadowing aside I thought they handled the death scene well. It was very to-the-point and Biscuit's determination to live gave it an extra edge to make it sting a bit more. It looks like it could have a big effect on Mikazuki and Orga too. He was important to both of them.

Ahh. It was a fun action episode, but that ending eclipsed pretty much everything else.

Oh man I'm so torn. Carta's isane charisma and uniform, obedient troops are so appealing to me, but she killed one of my favorite characters. I had a feeling from early on that something would happen to Biscuit, but I didn't think it'd happen like this. I'll miss no longer having one of my favorite seiyuu voice a character in IBO too This could cause good character development for Orga and Mika too but still...

And I must note that using the first ending was a tasteful move on the production's part.

Darn we were already hinted about Biscuit's death so much at the first half of this episode. Why kill him off, I hate Carta Issue, we lost such an awesome character and I was hoping he would survive up to the end of season 1. Rip Biscuit, I hope Orga takes care of Biscuit's sisters now and get em into school like Biscuit wanted.

Guys, I'm curious about Mika's unresponsive arm. It was started after he killed Ein, and soon able to cut anything with sword.

Since, his arm and eye becomes fully recovered once he is connected with GunDam, via nerve system.

It suggest that there is a possibility that those damages will soon be healed when some major battle occurred like wise there is also a chance that our hero Mika totally paralyzed and lost all of his physical mobility.

Wow, usually when an important character dies they last just long enough to get in some poignant last words. Not Biscuit, he got cut off by the reaper mid sentence :/

Definite favorite part of the episode was "I'm allowed to shoot, right?"

Also I hope Carta is dead, she annoys the hell out of me and would almost be a worthy trade for Biscuit... almost

I can honestly say I didn't see that coming. I really thought it was Orga that was going to die. The big brother/leader character normally dies around this point in a series. But Biscuit....damn, that was sad. This series is brutal after killing off characters suddenly. No sad music or real last words, just sudden death. Just like how war really is.

Why were they completely open out in the middle of the battlefield anyway?! They couldn't have gone around and watched from a distance?? 😭

Why the shock anyway, pretty much confirmed that they will die one by one. Probably Mika die last and the princess will be last man standing. And thats the story of a revolutionary princess and her knights.

May seem so, I didnt think he would die since he was with Orga, which is why I felt his death was kinda cheap, suddently Carta can hear them talking, escapes to them, and Mika gets stopped?! I dont believe it would be that easy.

Aside that, good episode, hoping Carta gets killed next episode, dont like her one bit, what an annoying bitch. If you dont wanna see your subordinates getting killed do it yourself, you slut.

Oh boy. Just watched this episode. And still crying. (few years till I'm 40 years old and still cry over an anime episode :'( )

A lot of the replies above talk about "death flags". Fine it was a strong flag, what's bad about this? I think the episode was strong and very well done.

On a side note, or question, Why would we enjoy something that makes us cry ? :'(

The end song fit perfectly in there. Well done.

NOOO! we lost our lovable plump biscuit.
We kind of knew it with the shit this episode threw from the start by i was kind of hoping it would surprise us by not fulfilling the death flag it built but they went along with it fully.
They really aren't subtle though. They just threw it in our face that they will kill him. I mean the guy never even fought before and suddenly they threw him in a mobile worker for no reason what so ever. And other grunt could be driving the thing.

I have to criticize the show though about the stupid thing of Orga just appearing like that in-frond of enemy mobile suits and also about how suddenly the enemy just hears their inner communications. That seems poorly made like that.

CG said:
Buscuit's death flag became too strong when he and Orga agreed to have a nice long talk about their future after leaving the island... nothing could stop Buiscuit's incoming death after that. And then we were back to the first ending, Orphans' namida.

From the looks of it, Buiscuit's death is hitting Mikazuki the hardest, penetrating through all those walls he constructed around his emotions, through his aloof detached persona he created as a defensive mechanism. He might be a step away from an emotional meltdown now. Either way, I'm hoping that with this, his big character development is coming.

Biscuits death flag was raised the moment the episode started and it showed his two sisters wishing to see their brother. The it was basically confirmed with the later talk and that woman telling Orga he will have plenty of time to talk to him and things like that.

Anyway it will be interesting to see if Mikazuki gets a rage outrage and starts buthering that woman's mobile suit.
She was entertaining with the wacko behaviour and her obsession with Orbital fleet whatever but she the kind of character that is too stupid to get a bigger role in the story so this is goodbye.

Btw lol at the scene they were posing and Akihiro just shot one and he was like "It's ok to shoot right?"

Opening the episode with Biscuit's sisters thinking of him back home and the implication that he's decided to stay. The other characters saying lines like "Orga needs someone like you", "you have plenty of time to tell him how you feel" and "we'll talk after the battle. It's still sad if very predictable.
