Natsuki going all bonkers that the girl of his dreams is indeed Atri, and the more he thinks about it, the more he gets flustered.

The depression on Natsuki's face says it all, and try as he might to run away from the problem, everyone wants to pester him on their development. Still, their banter just feels the same as per normal despite Atri having a heart, and Minamo feels alright that as much as she's pursuing Natsuki in the past, having both Ryuji and Yoko to question her if leaving him is a choice, but having Atri around does help her fulfill seeing the old version of him, the same that she has always known him to be. At least Atri is getting better at her cooking, and even trying to entice Natsuki that he has feelings for her.

Atri getting cheeky to flash herself at Natsuki, he's clearly being teased at for sexual harassment, and after giving it some thought, confesses what she meant to him as someone precious, with things taken one small step at a time towards romantic development, eve if they have to sleep on the same bed, separated by a curtain cover.

But the memories of the past, as well as with the daily diary that Atri wrote on her log that he coincidentally chanced upon, was it all a planned coincidence, or something unnatural?

AI girlfriends are all fun and games until you take a glimpse into their code. Poor Natsuki.

And man, Minamo standing no chance was pretty much a given from the start but watching her officially give up still hurts.

Admitting that she said something because she thinks that's what he wanted to hear, doesn't mean she "lacks a heart", though. It could still simply be due to a lack of understanding. It does mean she's capable of deception, on the other hand. What is she capable of doing to achieve her objectives, I wonder...

There's also the stark disconnect between the analytical diary and her typical behavior, which might be where the true trickery lies.
Trained to comfort others and present a joyful expression despite struggling on the inside, a disastrous storm waiting to happen. Cold computer logic meets emotions – but that might be too much of a psychological thriller for this show.

It's important to be careful what you teach an AI. Give it a wrong input and it'll perceive it as the truth. Give it a command and it'll always calculate the response it deems appropriate. Logic reasoning won over advanced sci-fi (Plastic Memories type of situation). I didn't want to be right but here we have it.

An AI will do what it's programmed to. It's not Natsuki's fault for lashing out on Atri. He genuinely believed that Atri was an individual who has a heart who is learning like a human child does when they're growing up. He decided to believe this as it was the most convenient truth for his mind to rely on. Atri being his savior and emotional support, forced him to block out the logical truth. Atri is just an AI who is receiving new info and outputting what it deems appropriate for the situation.

That was one hell of a Plot Twist I wasn't expecting. 🤯(☉。☉)!

EP 8

Its ep 8. somehow its only ep 8. out of 13
Though
Like it feels like the entire time has been calm before the storm, it just has this feeling that something is going to happen eventually, the only question is what

Whiplash the anime
Like we had 5 and 3 eps and now what is this
Ugh, another really awful cliffhang

Like there's really not much I can say, the cliffhang and what not is infuriating. And the whiplash too
Like, we had all these eps and its ep 8 and im sitting here.

EDIT: YOKO IS SARAH EMI BRIDCUTT?
I know she didnt have that many lines but sheesh, she doesnt sound like at all.
Also yeah ririka is haruno anzu, though if I didnt already know beforehand I doubt I would have been able to guess. Glub

In the novel there were little clues, like situations where Atri would stand still thinking when experiencing a new situation for the first time and she didn't know how to react so it took her a few seconds to figure out how to do it.

Putting aside the questionable side of this relationship (I mean um pretty sure ATRI is the same age as Natsu technically) this show is really great. There relationship has really developed far. But then the tricky question of does she have a heart, can she feel emptions or if she is even properly conscious like a real person. It's all very conflicting.

But strangely on one of the last pages of her diary it looked almost like there were dried tears. Unless I saw that wrong. So maybe a hint of genuine emotions is breaking through her normal code.

spoiler: Atri lying isn't entirely her fault, in the past when meeting Natsuki it was already mentioned that she was calm, that's because she acted robotic at that time, and wondering how to make humans happy since her owner didn't totally like her because of her robotic personality, she asked Natsuki what to do to make others happy and Natsuki replied that she should smile because if you smile those around you will smile too, so don't see Atri as the totally guilty one because Natsuki has something to do with the matter too

I'll come back to read this after I finish the VN. I'll probably finish it today or tomorrow.

Bro really in denial about being a lolicon lmao. Embrace it Natsuki it’s who you are 😂 . Another really good episode, everyone’s kinda coming to terms with how they feel and where they stand.

Obviously Atri and Natsuki relationship was the main focus of the episode with Natsuki struggling to accept how he feels about her, but I really liked Minamo’s maturity in this episode. She’s been with Natsuki for so long and obviously been in love with him, but rather than sit there and be sad about him developing feelings for Atri she’s happy that he’s found someone who brings him back to his old self. True love isn’t selfish or possessive, but we often see romance as being portrayed that way in anime so when I see a character handle things so well like this I have to praise them!

The Atri flashbacks continue. Ever since she saw the school in like episode 4 or so and then that fight against the debt collectors, we’ve been getting these hints that Atri got violent in the past with a student and I’m really curious about what happened! It’s gotta be why she was placed in sleep in the first place

“Starting today I’m going to look at you as a humanoid with a heart” oof considering how the episode ended this stings. Natsuki finally started seeing Atri as a person and then he finds that diary entry.. idk why she would be writing something like that in plain sight anyway, you’d think she’d be more protective with something that could blow her entire cover.. hate seeing Natsuki look at her like she’s some sort of monster :/

I'm honestly lost for words. I always pondered whether she'd be a humanoid or just being a plain robot. But, after so long and so many episodes of us seeing ATRI express such vivid emotions only to reveal that she learnt these expressions is upsetting. I can understand how Natsuki feels in a way because I too believed she was very human-like. It's so interesting I really do need to try the visual novel too. But, this was expertly done in this show and to think that everything has been a lie up till now is very interesting.

My take on it, is that she still has a heart & emotions, & she probably still loves Natsuki, but she thinks it's because it's what Natsuki wants. She hasn't been able to understand what her emotions are, or what she wants for herself yet.

No more cliffhangers, please. Atri was really trying hard to make Natsuki happy in every way and tell him that she likes him so much. After all, if it weren’t for Atri, Natsuki would have died. I do not understand why he said to her: “Stay away from me”.

An AI can learn a lot of things in a very short period. So, she learned many things about love (and sex). But it’s not fair for Atri to be treated like that.

Not that I agree with Natsuki's words and reaction in this case, but it's because the entries in the diary, at least how she wrote it or how it sounded in his imagining of her writing it when envisioning it in his head, was written from a cold, dispassionate, clinical and analytical-sounding objective point of view like she was an outside observer to a fictional character created call "Atri" in order to please him and fulfill her function, going through the motions and following instructions, rather than subjectively experiencing it firsthand and organically. Like her source of motivation was not internally-driven.

To someone like Natsuki, that probably means, at least currently in his eyes, she has less of a "heart" (human-esque emotional range and capacity) because she seemed to be operating according to programming rather than something more sincere. He has trouble with identifying and verbalizing his own feelings, so hearing someone in a neutral tone (I know it was written, but this was his impression/interpretation), in detail describe the logical reasons behind all their statements and expressed feelings and why they did everything they did probably sounds so alien, freaky, and wrong. Atri should be like a learning child in his eyes, not sounding like AI reviewing her actions as a detached observer.

Characters like Natsuki are often in many ways naive pure-hearted idealists.

@OtakuKun1 Not really, what I saw from those lines is Atri acting for the best for her master as a robot and not as a human.

She acted that way because it would generate the best outcome for him, not because she really had those emotions.
That's quite different

The only good part of this episode was the end and the Canon in D ED.
Honestly the whole romance thing just falls flat here and is kind of creepy. I really am trying to understand where this show is going considering the premise of the world but instead we get interpersonal drama shoved down our gullets.

@ZoeEbe Yo, tag the spoilers.

Anyways, as a fellow who played through the VN, what do you think of the anime so far? For me it's alright but it kinda feels lacking in certain parts, especially the making the school generator part it falls flat compared to the VN. Anyways, curious to hear your thoughts.

The dreaded diary scene has finally come. That reveal will for sure change the dynamics of Natsuki and Atri, noting how he acted at the end.

On another note, Minamo is a losing heroine at this point. I feel bad for her.

I don´t believe that poor excuse Minamo said to Ryuuji, she was trying so hard to not cry. Is obvious she ihas been in love with Natsu, but she already gave up to support Atri and Natsu.. Natsu-kun so oblivious about Minamo´s feelings :(.
poor Minamo, I hope she will end up with Ryuuji, he really shows interest in her...

Man what a rollercoaster of an episode and I dreaded the cliffhanger ending since the relationship that Atri and Natsuki built up seems to have crumbled with what he read in her diary. Hopefully what @Phantom_373 noticed comes to play soon since I took a second look at the ending scene and it does appear that there are dried tears on at least one of the pages.

Just as things are going well between Natsu and Atri, he discovered that she isn't what she is. Can a humanoid actually live like humans do? It's a cute alice of life but forces us to ask some ethical questions.

Honestly, the anime has finally started for real. A bit too late, but well...

That romance plot would be welcomed IF the story didn't make ATRI into a child, for f sake.

She's supposed to be like 14yo, right? But she act like 8 to 12 at best. Gross.

I don't mind if the concept of android's not aging physicality being explored, but it's only good when we'll handled, and ATRI is being portrayed as just a loli.

Also, it's me or they are making her smaller every episode? Am I crazy?

Well, I don't know what to expect from there. Maybe we'll get something like plastic memories or Ghost in the shell or maybe isn't that deep, but I truly hope for the development of the concept proposed to us.

Now, the ending remind me of some concept of AI behavior in the SCP universe... the way ATRI seems to focus on making natsu happy, even if by faking some data. (Probably we will get some plot twist and she actually likes him, but can't comprehend for the lack of memories and not having a well developed consciousness yet..)

BUT

Will ATRI turn deviant? Will the SCP Foundation step in to take action? We shall see how it ends in the next episodes!

A depender do tipo de máquina que ela é, a resposta mudaria muito. Uma IA realmente vai buscar o resultado mais fácil pra obter um bom score, nisso pode ter um comportamento "deviant" onde vai tentar fabricar os melhores cenários para obter os resultados esperados, mas ai a questão é;

Ela é uma Android? Ciborgue?

A sua consciência foi desenvolvida do zero ou teve uma base?

Honestamente era isso que esperava desse anime, então espero que foquem mais nessa parte nessa reta final.

You don't have a heart = monster.
What a weird concept.
But, this will be fun!
I can't wait to see what he will do to Atri... Heh.
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Probably if you looked soberly at the minutiae of our inner reasoning we are all a bit "ATRI" and people would likely see us in a different light if they knew
I have a bad feeling Netsuki is gonna blame ATRI for his own misapprehensions, repulsed because of her "robot-ness" which would be a bad outcome for all concerned. Surely it is his own selfish fantasies and desires, and his shame in them that are the problem. And the more I think about it, it actually is something that is pretty common in today's world.
And then there is ATRI. Can she love? Who knows, everything can't be learnt by appearances after all. But maybe we're going to be asking a related question in the next few episodes. Can she suffer?
