Dojima is more insightful than I had thought, a valuable friend to have for someone like Kobato.

Not going to lie, I kinda find the Kobato and Osanai moments to be cute, almost psuedo date-like. There's some bits of mystery added in when Kobato discovered that note but otherwise, felt like every other episode. Glad they are getting out of the classroom environment and expanding the settings though.

Drug use in an anime is always a refreshing topic since it’s just not talked about much in Japanese society. Definitely feel for Kengo wanting to help his girl’s sister get out of that drug group, but if she’s not being appreciative and thinks of him as getting in the way, that’s on her 🤷🏾‍♂️

Why couldn’t bro just give normal instructions to Kobato tho 😂 sent them on a wild goose chase before they realised the Han kanji was just a fill in on the map.

Hippy look really fits osanai lol. She’s in her flower girl era. I should’ve known something bad was gonna happen in the end when she offered to pay for the parfaits. Kidnapping her is the craziest thing we’ve seen yet in this series, stakes never been higher for Kobato to solve a case. What a cliffhanger to leave off on

Well, that was unexpected… but kinda hinted at by the way the camera was frame.

The background music playing during the plaza scene and the noodle restaurant scene is a very nice touch. Once again stellar attention to details.

These bowls were similar weren't they? Well, because they were from the same restaurant, but at different branches.

A very strange development to be sure. Unsure if the kidnapping is some weird setup or if it's related to the skeety drug users somehow. And I agree it's kinda refreshing to see drug use mentioned in anime. I swear Japan would sooner lock you up for smoking weed over owning literal CP, so the topic is usually avoided like the plague.

Wow, Yuki was abducted? Strange indeed. Either it's true (related to the druggies or real abductors) or it was a lie. Cause Yuki was acting a bit off during the call.

And...is it just me or she looked really pretty today? Damn.

I thought it was strange that he hadn't met her Mom before. I mean, they are always doing things together, like best friends (they really should be dating though).

Regarding the kidnapping, I don't know what to make of it.

Seeing as all the other cases had to do with some sort of sweet, I wouldn't be surprised if this whole drug case would end up being about edibles lol.

Also, wtf was that ending...?

Most of this episode felt pretty slow but at least Osanai had on a weird hippy-type outfit which was unique. Also, I didn't care much for the mini-mystery that Kengo left for Kobato to figure out but things got really interesting at the end with a possible Osanai kidnapping. I'm thinking maybe it's the guy and his gang group that stole her bike from early on since they eventually got in trouble.

Side note, it was a bit irritating when Kobato was about to eat his hamburger and he kept getting interrupted, like take a freaking bite already.

This week on Shoushimin: How to Enjoy Sweets, it's Dojima agaaaaain ruining the couple's Summer date. But can't help it since it's a serious topic which is drug use. And now, Yuki's been kidnapped for ransom?!

Wow, Osanai looks identical to her mother. Of course something was gonna happen to Osanai to prevent her from getting her beloved candy apple. Interesting way the camera was framed while Osanai was talking to Kobato on the phone...Perhaps this unhinged Isawa person is somehow involved?
Also, gotta say, they picked the perfect VA for Kengo. I can't say I care for his character, but damn I could listen to him talking all day with that voice.

Wow 3 episodes left!

I see Yuki with 2 different outfits in this episodes. Both are cute for Yuki. Finally I see Yuki's mother too in this episode.

This episode is the beginning of new case. The case is drug abuse.
and in the end of this Yuki is kidnapped.
Is the case will serious and take more 1 episode for solve this case?

I'm curious... watashi kininarimasu! 👀

Kobato being sentenced to spend the whole Summer chasing confectionary shops with Osanai, it definitely feels like a relationship in action. Him coincidentally meeting Kengo on the fact that he's into an investigation of illicit drug users, which Kengo's girlfriend Sanae's older sister Kasumi Kawamata acts as bait. Osanai naturally comes along for the ride to talk about Isawa Hasemi, but being presented with the the Kanji word for half to be contacted, it definitely is odd, but the only semblance is a map to find that person, which is a small restaurant and its supposed person that's worried about Kengo.

Kobato bring dragged out by Kengo for tanmen and an avenue to release his pent-up feelings of the failure to join the group, he had many things to prove, because Isawa is its leader, and she wouldn't let go that easily. A call late in the night from Osanai for specific candy apples to end off their Summer spree, only for her mother and Kobato to learn that she's being abducted, that's a frightening aspect.

The sweet case...becomes a frightening one...

Kind of disappointed by this episode tbh. I assume they're setting up for the next episode but the disinterest from Kobato made me somewhat less interested in what was happening. Cool to see Yuki's mom though, her daughter looks just like her. Maybe we'll finally be seeing some of Yuki's hidden self next week?

It seems the episodes alternate a plot about some small things like food and more serious events like the ones in this episode .

Osanai and Kobato are always losing themselves in their fantasies of playing detective as shown visually whenever they try solving a case.

pretty good cliffhanger to end the episode, this plus the plot point about the drug group really added some much needed suspense. Wonder if it'll turn it to be another just silly moment involving Osanai. There could be a possibility where she knows what she's doing and is trying to lure the group or obtain information(assuming they were the ones who kidnapped her)

Not much in terms of characterisation, but I like that Kobato is starting to consciously think about his behaviour of playing detective and his goal (the promise that he made), why didn’t Dojima provide him with clear cut instructions? maybe he wants to force kobato to play detective. I like this shot when the frame starts to rack focus from Dojima in the foreground to kobato in the backround, emphasising how the former(dojima) is influencing the behaviour of latter(kobato) as well as kobato’ inner conflict.

Also, the shot where kobato is talking about his relationship with Osanai could be foreshadowing something. But I’m Not sure.

Also wondering if Osanai's phone call in the previous episode is causally connected in any way with her kidnapping, probably not but still something to consider.

Speaking of which, it was kinda foreshadowed in the dialogue in this shot of her talking on the phone.

The next episode should have more exciting and suspense with the pursuit of the drug group and osanai's rescue.

This plot thread could have a longer duration as All of the remaining three episodes could be dedicated to it, but I think it’ll most likely take 1 episode to reach the end. Curious to see how this season will end, with only three episodes remaining.

The kidnappers want 5 million yen which Siri tells me is about $34,600. Osanai is definitely worth that much so I think the Mom needs to probably max out her credit cards.

This episode was the most different so far. That unexpected ending, drugs as a main theme, a message with the kanji han [半], a reggae event. I loved Osanai's outfit, she was really cool there. Kobato should have given a better compliment!

damn my cake anime went from 0 to 100 real quick

she was involved in something very dangerous all this time, her mom said she was on the phone a lot at night talking to someone, but it wasn't Kobato, as she only called him once that late at night
her last "goodbye call" was so sad, like she knew she won't be coming back tomorrow
lately it felt like Osoana was dragging Kobato around way too much, but it all was her "last supper"

Hippie mode Osanai looks gorgeous... Poor Kobato didn’t get to take a single bite of his burger, and poor Osanai won’t be able to eat her caramel apple either.

It seems like the shady business they were involved in during high school is coming back to haunt them... Perhaps they were responsible for the leader of the group they mentioned getting caught, which is why Osanai was kidnapped.

another boring episode with an interesting ending. maybe with plot developments finally happening it'll get good in episode 8. I have been so close to dropping Shoushimin all season but haven't because it's only 10 episodes. I really hope whatever happens with Osanai's abduction makes it all worth it and it's not some stupid fake out.

Kobato's room is surprisingly well decorated despite being simple, being nicely coordinated with the green colors of the speckled wall, sheets, and curtains, and natural brown wood tones along with the picture frames on the wall and bed's headboard. Not something I'd expect from a high school boy.

Woah, went from solving everyday light-hearted mysteries straight into illegal drugs, huh. How long until somebody gets murdered? And Kengo...says he can't say her name...then soon afterward says her name without even realizing it, lol. I also didn't know he even had a not-a-girlfriend until now, who gave him the pet name "Kenken". Since they mentioned their middle school days, I imagine the incident that made the two of them want to become "ordinary" was related to the drug incident that got some bad bitch arrested and is now out on probation.

And why did Kengo have to be so cryptic about who to contact? However, as soon as I saw him write it, my immediate thought was an extension of the subway map printed on the tray's sheet, with the arrow pointing down at the intersection. But from Kobato's perspective, he leaned over to take the memo first, rather than look directly down at it, which would explain why he didn't also immediately come to that conclusion before eventually finding the answer.

Osanai's music festival outfit was quite cute! She really blended into the vibe. Now that I think about it, music festivals and drugs just seem to overlap quite often, huh.

Osanai's mother (or older sister?) looks so much just like her. Logic says that's her mother, but my eyes tell me older sister with how youthful she looks.

Goddamn, from drugs to now kidnapping and ransom. Shit just got real! Looks like Kobato's ordinary days are over. Just when I thought Osanai and Kobato were going to make a lot of summer memories together and progress their relationship, Osanai Yuki gets punched in the face by fate (or the writers) yet again. The poor girl just can never catch a break. I hope Kobato hasn't forgotten how to seriously use his fox-like detective sleuthing skills, and that Kenken still has the wooden ken handy to beat the shit out of the kidnappers once the two of them track her down...after calling the police, of course.

Other people have mentioned it, but it is very curious who Osanai was talking to on the phone so often that definitely was not Kobato, like the time he was at her place and tried to sneak an extra cake for himself. That may have something to do with the vindictive drug dealer bitch from middle school, and her current kidnapping case. I'm guessing Osanai was the one who ratted on the drug-dealing bitch that got arrested after doing something to tick her off, and now wants revenge.

I'm guessing based on how Osanai was talking on the phone she's either in on the kidnapping or she knew it was going to happen, but had to leave a coded message to Kobato. Since she said over the phone this will be the cumulation of everything they did this summer we can assume everything is connected some how. So maybe the boys that stole her bike are some how connected to the gang selling drugs. I'm not sure how they'll tie it all together but I imagine them meeting at the festival with the special candy apples will have something to do with it.

The previous two episodes felt like filler or just a necessary break, depending on your perspective. This episode though seems that the anime is back on track.

The mystery about Kenjo's female acquaintance getting involved with drugs is intriguing.

Also, Osanai's string of bad luck continues as she is abducted.

few things i noticed, first since he entered the restaurant you can see her already there, on her phone

second when she call him at night around 12 he say, "she doesn't usually call this late" , yet her mom says "she seems to be on her phone a lot at night since the summer break"

could mean she hasn't been on the phone with him, maybe thats why she was on her phone at the restaurant too

Edit: also as someone pointed out she was on the phone for a long time on the previous episode, this was while he was trying to figure out how to hide his tracks with the desserts.

WDYT?
