It's nice that Yahiko recognized his own mistakes and looks like he is giving up being a thief. However, it doesn't solve the problem that he has trouble on the streets.

Luckily, this episode builds on a relationship between Kenshin and Yahiko. In particular, Kenshin mentors him to be stronger and he gets a spot in the dojo. Just goes to show that Kenshin is a selfless person who helps the helpless.

Well if nothing, Kaoru does have good timing, whether it being someone coming to save her just at the moment or she doing things to help people just at the right moment too. Good for Yahiko, it was Kaoru who spotted him getting dragged away by those yakuzas. And then, it was just her informing the right man, that is Kenshin, to take care of the things at the end. As expected Kenshin did arrive just when things were about to go south, and helped out Yahiko there.

Being a kid of a samurai family itself, he didn’t have a great time growing up, losing both of his parents. And that’s when those dweebs came and had him go through things like pickpocketing in exchange for shelter. Though hey, now he’s saved and is with the company of Kenshin and Kaoru. Good for him, but I noticed they made this part in the remake all serious, as compared to how it was in the original.

Yahiko is still a brat, but okay atleast he’s willing to improve, be it at the cost of training and teaming up with Kaoru, and learning the Kasshin-ryu swordstyle. Sanosuke coming next episode.

I couldn't help but notice, from that angle, it seemed like Yahiko bit Gaskeh in a rather sensitive area, lol. Nevertheless, Yahiko proves to be a tough and stubborn kid, even though he can be a bit of a brat. But he's still likable in his own way.

Kenshin's technique of launching guys into the ceiling is so cool. He did it to the fake Manslayer in the pilot, and now Gaskeh got a taste of it too. The Yakuza boss definitely made the right call not to mess with Kenshin.

The way Kenshin elegantly sliced that cannon round in half was truly badass. It's about time people learn not to mess with him; he's not one to be underestimated.

It felt like this episode was over in just five minutes. Looking forward to seeing my guy Sano in action!

Damm that gang really is filled to the brim with lowlifes. Well if anything both Yahiko and Kaoru need each other so its perfect. The Hishimanji guren gang huh. Nice name and they sure have some unique faces within their ranks. Against Kenshin even a wooden cannon is next to useless. Still curious whether that gang would come back one day. Despite the trouble nice to see Yahiko join the fold and expand the dojo by one.

Am I crazy for thinking that Kaoru and Yahiko are more docile/passive here in comparison to the original? Not really a complaint, just noticing that she gets less angry at his quips, and he overall just seems less combative. It's nice that they are meshing well but it feels like this ep was low energy lol

It was nice seeing Yahiko get saved by Kenshin from those assholes, Yahiko got a good nut bite in at least between the beating lol. And I was kinda surprised the boss didn’t sick his men on Kenshin foolishly, he knew a threat when he saw one and knew they never stood a chance, possibly the smartest villain in the show so far lol.

And later we got to see Kaoru be a badass against those gang members, but of course they had too many to fight without Kenshin and even brought a wooden cannon, those lads were packing heat lol, and even tho they may have been going overboard I can’t say they were completely in the wrong due to Kaoru’s former students being dumbasses. Thankfully tho, Kenshin came back just in time to slice the cannonball in half, good thing it wasn’t a normal cannonball lol.

And lastly, that teased character at the end kinda reminds me of Sol Badguy from Guilty Gear with that spiky hair and headband, even has “Bad” on the back of his shirt lol, looking forward to his introduction.

Kenshin doing the right thing saving Yahiko from those thugs. Intimidating them enough so that the boss realized its better to let one kid go than have his men be crushed. Kenshin grabbing Yahiko and taking him to Kaoru dojo so he can become stronger. Yahiko is quite the stubborn kid that he is, having immense pride in not only his parents but himself as well. Not wanting some random person like Kaoru whom he doesn't respect to teach him. It was really funny seeing Kaoru and Yahiko bickering back and forth. Kenshin just sitting there supervising laughing it off. All those people showing up wanting to learn the sword style that Kenshin used to stop those corrupt cops. He's not willing to teach anyone his sword style though, which is something tied to his past. Not even wanting to teach Yahiko his sword style. Those former students of Kaoru bringing trouble to her doorstep. Making a false story so that Kaoru would defend them. Yahiko seeing right through it and calling them out. Kaoru is a standup person trying to take the fall even after learning of the deception, knowing that they used hers and her father's sword style to hurt the members of that gang. Kenshin arriving like a badass cutting that cannon ball from the wooden cannon. His notoriety around town is becoming useful since it got those guys to think twice. The end of the episode had a great tease for one of my favorite characters we'll see next!

Actually , there is very high chances that Badguy did got inspired by this character from Rurouni Kenshin.
Especially since Baiken , another character from Guilty Gear and made by the same designer , was officially inspired by Kenshin.

This remake is going as well as I wanted it to. Sano's next. Little by little, we're progressing to some of the best fights in shounen. Or maybe it's just nostalgia talking. Anyways, Kenshin will always be my gigachad since childhood. He's so damn cool (and complicated).

We saw a little glimpse of that Himura Battosai and how low Soma-kun's voice can go... Exciting. He did well. Kenshin cutting the cannonball + the pose after was cool as ever.

I really liked the walk back to the Kamiya Dojo and how they depicted Kenshin's adjustments for Yahiko's battered pride. I don't hate him that much because he has trouble being honest, but he's a good kid. Plus Kaoru and Yahiko give the Onee-chan/Otouto dynamic, lol.

Next week... the legend!!! Sanosuke!!!

Don't know this all felt kind of bland, I dont recall being wowed by the original's early bits but i'm kind of surprised how little i really am getting out of this it sort of just goes in one ear and out the other.

Compared to the '96 version, I'm absolutely loving the fact of Kaoru now being more collected and less short-tempered. Almost forgot the huge "onee-chan/otouto" vibe her relationship with Yahiko had lol.

Oh cool! They adapted chapter 4 in the second half of the episode! For those that don't know, chapter 4 was never adapted in the 1996 version for some reason, so this is canon content from the manga that was never animated before. As far as I know, it's the only chapter of the manga pre-Jinchuu arc that was skipped in the original anime (similarly, Shaman King (2001) skipped chapters 3, 4 and 5 of its manga, and the 2021 remake skipped those same chapters too). Also, Sanosuke shown after the end credits!

Yahiko giving up on being a thief.. But that's coming with more problems.
He's getting a pretty good beating up from the gang.
But Kenshin is always here at the perfect time.

And then the other gang.. I know it is not good what the two did, but coming with the entire gang for only whose two.. I don't know about that one..

They’re genuinely just following the manga.

It was more common for adaptation to take a lot of liberties back then. Nowadays, things tend to be more faithful to the source material.

Not like her aggression would be a problem to this generation in the first place. We literally grew with Tsunderes.

Its nice to know Yahiko made a peace with Kaoru, after the whole cat-and-dog fighting sequence. Kiddo really be tsundere there smh xd. But this is just a very beginning to their nice interaction. Tho i really wish Kenshin have something more to teach with the kiddo. But oh well, maybe as their security already enough till the real problem coming? Let's see how the rival tough guy can fit in into the Kenshin gang...

This episode was again a stunner with the pacing and character development,
shows clearly how different Kenshin is from any other manslayer, Kaoru's character is also better fleshed out here. got to see her unyielding side when it comes to her principles as well as gentle nature, kenshinxkaoru ship definitely makes more sense here than it did in the original; as for yahiko his character arc grew beautifully cementing his identity and orienting him towards the future, it also let both him and kaoru come to terms with their past - his family's honor (with his dead samurai father and mother) and her familys honor (with an empty dojo and good-for-nothing brats as past-disciples) - and face forward while being proud of who they were... beautiful
Also this ep really showed how much kaoru needs kenshin to stick around and why he hasnt left, if she's gonna believe in her ideals (which she should) in the era they're in she's gonna need a kenshin around if theres jerks like the sword police, her live-in-servant, her ex-disciples and these gangs keep showing up, so kenshin putting a rest to his wandering for a while does make more sense now.

Sanouske's in the preview!!!! Damn I can't wait for Saito to show up. If things keep going at this pace, that is gonna be awesome. But will they be able to get that far with only 20 mroe eps? There's still Jinei, Kanryu and Raijuta up ahead after atleast one ep for Zanza

More light is shed on Yahiko's background and circumstances. (In Origins he's just there at the dojo already and I also noticed the Yakuza's boss's lines about Samurai in the current period were said by the main antagonist, instead). Head in the roof lmao The latter half with the gang fight seemed a bit bland until Kenshin showed up slicing their cannonball lol. I hope to see more action involving Kaoru.

Alright, the street fighter Sanosuke is here!

Compared to what I read in the manga, this is hardly an intentional thing because of younger generations or some shit.

It’s mostly just seem like they’re cutting irrelevant scenes from something which already is a very slow start.

Not like you can’t grasp their personalities with what we have, really.
