THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.

So we got Natsuko making her move again and she's against Riona and Nobuaki. At this point, I wouldn't trust anything that Natsuko says considering her personality.

Felt like a biuildup episode but also with a cliffhanger.
I don't really care much what happens next since this show barely focuses on any characterization or make me feel for the cast. At least Riona got more screen time this week.

That was actually a pretty smart move on Natsuko's part, fucking Teruaki at the right time to trick Kenta with the "obedience confirmed" text. But holy shit that scene where she took Terauki's phone while he was in the bathroom shows just how crazy she is.

I noticed Natsuko point out how Mizuki was screwed after getting a new phone, and I think that's ridiculous tbh. I feel like as long as you have a cell phone that can allow you to play, you should be fine, but no, if your phone breaks you're still fucked even after replacing it.

I didn't really care for the last scene with the finger breaking, but I already know Teruaki's sacrifice is going to have been for nothing. Whatever he and everyone else had planned, is definitely going to backfire.
People on MAL refuse to actually enjoy watching anime.

Your taste in anime isn't a personality trait.

MAL is literally just anime Twitter as its own website lol.

Getting the phones back from Natsuko, so is Teruaki planning to kill her or something by breaking all his fingers???

Despite Natsuko being really crazy, she's smart though. She was creepy when she confronted Terauki in the bathroom and took his phone. It was ballsy of him to break his own fingers. I don't know if his plan will work out though.

Good to see them fucking Natsuko over a little bit, that bitch had it coming. But i still wont give half a shit about anything that happends, this show is too far gone for that. I will just finish it to see if they add some logic to this thing.

People above me found the scene when Natsuko steals the phone of Teruaki in the bathroom is creepy, but I thinlk it was pretty hilarious. I mean, those glowing red eyes are too ridiculous to be taken seriously. The scene at the beginning with the condom was very lolworthy as well.

Teruaki sure has balls, but I'm sure his plan is going to fail, since Natsuko is probably going to be one of the final survivors, and I don't think she's going to be defeated that easily.

Whoahoho said:
Ok, so who is this Riona anyway, who just meet up with Terauki?
She was the one who killed her parents last episode (and that is probably the reason why she didn't want Nobuaki to enter in her home).

It wasn't her, the one who killed her parents is Aya Kuramoto (They look similar but have different eye-color and other physical differences, you can see them on the 2nd character PV, Aya is n°04 and Riona is n°18. They also don't have the same house).

Really? If that is the case, I didn't noticed that, since both have a similar hairstyle (or so I though when I watched last episode) and even have a mole in the same part of the face, but, well is that one was another person, better, at least Riona is not a psychopath.

It wasn't very clear, they really looks alike. I think I only noticed the few differences thanks to the manga. Moreover, there are two different Aya, which don't help at all.

Ugh, that episode actually made me feel nauseous. I just want this show to be over.
Teriyaki actually got decent character development, now he's going to die...??
I'm not sure I understood the logic of that game.
It was nice that there wasn't any over the top sexualization and violence in the last half of the episode, it was actually refreshing to see all of the characters working together instead of frustrating arguments.
I don't think it will last long but at least one episode was decent (even if the tameness is a bit boring).

Yes, you are completely right. After cheking the official webpage (where the faces of all the characters appears) and rewatching the scene in the previous episode, the one who killed her parents wasn't Riona, but the girl you mentioned.

Thanks for clear the misunderstanding, really.

First of all Riona's seiyuu sounds a bit too much like Pile...HOW DARE YOU COPY MY PILE

I find it really funny how this show chooses to put a little if any development in the characters just before they die/hurt themselves. "Man, I sure would like to be a stylist. But you know for you, who I went to school with for like 2 days before this shit started happenin', here's a haircut and then I'll permanently break my fingers but as long as you survive it's cool cuz you're the MC."

His broken finger looks like a fried wiener in one shot. Also, where did he get that whole stylist equipment in the middle of nowhere? What did he, pull it out of his ass?

Also that scene where Nobuaki and Teruaki were crying was hilarious.

This actually might have been one of the better episodes this show has had, by traditional metrics. It still wasn't good, but they at least managed to get some semblance of tension building in for once, even if they didn't do a great job of it...

They've set up conflicting signals though and it's bugging the crap out of me... They've given the most powerful position in this whole finger thing to Natsuko's best friend, who I went back and confirmed was the one that overheard Natsuko threaten Teruaki if he tried to betray her, which makes it seem like she's going to betray Natsuko here and be her undoing... but it's too early for that. The only way I can really see to get out of the contradiction with good writing is to focus in on the best friend's internal conflict, have her give in and help Natsuko now, but continue to build it up and finally betray her instrumentally at the very end... But I don't expect good writing from this show, so I fully anticipate they will completely ruin the tension on one or both sides of the issue, and can only hope that they at least have the courtesy to fail spectacularly and keep the "so bad it's good" aspect going strong.

It was a serious and emotional moment.

The reason he gave the haircut is to show us his passion towards being a stylist, which was not only an emotional moment but also served to show us his resolve towards defeating natsuko during the shocking moment when he broke his finger.

Ofc the symbolism was pretty subtle which is why an average viewer would be confused.

It was pretty funny when Teriyaki was hiding in the bathroom, the red eyes of Natsuko was so cringe-y.

Normal episode? Wow. No sex-oriented tasks? Wow. The punishment is death? Yeah, but we are going into the better realm, gentelmans. Slowly.

Nobuaki is gay. All those BL moments for yaoi-fandom.

Oh yeah, almost forgot why Riona... san won't allow Nobuaki to have a meeting at her house. And about her voice, that sounds perfect considering how she act all the time but totally the opposite for her appearance.

That is what they were attempting to convey, yes, and maybe it would have worked better even as-written if we could still take the show seriously.

The scene is misplaced and shoe-horned into the middle of what should be a crescendo into the climax of the episode, it would work better if it had occurred earlier in the episode, before everyone had met up and started with the serious business, and perhaps in a place or situation that would make more sense for Teruaki to have his expensive scissors and a towel on-hand, such as his house. But the audience's suspension of disbelief has been repeatedly trampled and smashed throughout the series, and so any little detail that doesn't fit quite right stands out like a sore thumb and becomes harder to forgive, further exacerbating the problem. Had we not been burned by the show so many times in the past, the scene may have worked as-is simply because we'd be engrossed in the story and characters and probably wouldn't notice how misplaced it is (and could forgive it easily even if we did notice)... but since we can't be engrossed in the story or characters at this point, it's jarring and annoys us and ends up doing the opposite of what it was supposed to do.

Of course, these are generalizations based on what seems to be the majority audience according to these episode threads. You might feel differently, but expect this to be the perspective of the "average viewer" as you call them.

I'm confused. Because, I don't really get about the "breaking your fingers" order and how Teruaki is going to get their phones back from Natsuko.

How did Natsuko get everybody else's phones?

And how does Natsuko know about Chiemi? They were separated at birth, right? Did she somehow find out about her during her game?

Definitely. Also agree with the part about if they'd done the characterisation properly, then we'd barely be as bothered about how weird this scene is.

Her pre-psycho personality was an act. She was always a psycho since her participation in a previous King's game, but she was hiding it and pretending to be a nice, normal girl. Why she chose to drop the act so quickly is beyond me, if she'd stuck with the sweet girl act she wouldn't have people plotting to take her down literally on day 3 (holy crap it really is only the third day... those flashbacks ate up so much time it feels like longer...).

As for the haircut... I guess he was just being nice? idk, logic isn't this show's strong suit.

Natsuko is some kind of untouchable object from a video game or what is going on here? Just rush her and beat her up until she can't resist and then take away the phone. That's 10 against 1. Or if we don't count that best friend then 9 against 1... still... I don't understand this logic.
