if they already knew that they were going to have a problem then why didn't they 1) transform all the zentradi into miclones 2) ship the zentradi that didn't want to conform off to another planet (there were probably more than a few to choose from after the zentradi fleet got destroyed) and 3) come up with something competitive to keep them occupied (sports etc)?

why the f*** aren't hayase and ichigo together two years later? i could understand if they had gotten together and then broken up but there has to be a limit to their stupidity if they both realised their feelings and did nothing about it for 2 friggin' years :/

i'm also having trouble understanding why Kaifun is surprised that he's not riding the gravy train anymore when he's the one derailing it, nor why Minmay is still with him (not that i understood why she was with him in the first place).

i really should just drop this show, i don't particularly like any of the characters (i outright hate several of them), the animation is poor, the pacing is bad and the storyline is crap.

Sure, why not gas them in concentration camps while we're at it?

Dont know about you guys, but I'm digging this epilogue arc. No simple happy endings, but a look at the ramifications of the end of the main storyline.

Plus I laughed at how much of an arsehole they made Kaifun. I'm so glad they did that instead of making him out to be a good guy in the end, fuck him! In the ear!

I give Macross credit for killing everyone on Earth, I don't see that too often. Poor Misa, I was surprise she didn't break Minmays poster. I love what they did to Kaifun character.

If you just want a typical anime, then sure.

If you want something that goes beyond the box even more then Macross already has you sure as hell better continue.

This.

@jacobpaige: why do you expect an anime that's 30 years old to have great animation?

But I really have the feeling I should have stopped watching at episode 27. What am I going to do if he ends up with Minmay?

I'll be pissed if he does. If that happens I'll pretend episode 27 is the end. Hayase was so much better from the start.

Heh the guy in all the Macross versions always chooses the wrong girl, in fact it seems to happen in just about any anime with a love triangle. The one who shows up first is always the sucky one and inevitably its the one beein mooned over.

I am liking this arc though, just stopping after the climatic battle would have been too easy.

You can feel how different this was from the earlier episodes. I see they've made Kaifun to be the main bad guy of the story now, for as much as Macross has that. They probably thought people would feel bad for him for what's blatantly going to happen later.

And Misa with the photos! Aagh, too cute. Watch her lose her job for that though.

Sure.
Macross was not that realistic in the first place in it's main plot points, while being believebale and easy to sympathise with as a whole. Why start? I'm not going to start changing context now after an end so epic (and silly if you will). Sometimes it's better to stop than regret later. So I appreciate the advice.

I'd simply hate to have them go and change the mood\theme after a timeskip. It's just wrong. From what I hear, they changed a lot and not for the better.

Yeah, I didn't really understand that either. I mean Hayase does the dishes, it's like a girlfirend's prerogative.

Seeing Kaifun has become a drunken wreck was great though.

Was Expecting a clip show, got one of the best episode in the series so far (other than 27, that was untouchable). I love it when shows continue past the 'true' ending so you get to see the consequences of what has happened.

Also there is a Gundam easter egg at 3:16, Haro is sticking out from behind the wreckage.

I think Hayase considers herself the girlfriend, and from that glimpse of what she was thinking when she saw Max and Milia with their child, it's pretty clear that she wants to be more. But when your "boyfriend" is mooning around with an album full of photographs of his unrequited love and a big honking poster of her on his bedroom wall, I can sympathize with why she feels miffed. Giving him the pictures is a good sign that she wants him to move on.

Unfortunately Hikaru seems to have come down with a bad case of oblivious main character syndrome, and isn't taking the hint.

Don't really understand why people are hating on this.
Sure they could have ended the show after the big epic battle in 27 but not too many stories show the aftermath after the war and the road to recovery which I personally think is very interesting.

I lol'ed at Hayase giving Hikaru the pictures of her.

I wonder what happened to Britai and Lap Lamiz, I'm sure they'd agree to live peacefully with the Humans but I doub't they'd agree to live beneath them.

Ohh and fuck Kaifun, I may ship Hayase more but I wouldn't want Minmay to end up with a fuck face like him.

I tried to like this episode, I really did. But I just found it really, really, ridiculous that Misa and Hikaru are still not in a romantic relationship after two fucking years. They were all over each other in the last episode! Even worse was that Hikaru still has feelings for Minmay, it was like that "break up" scene last episode was all for nothing. There's also the fact that they made Kaifun into an alcoholic, it just seemed so out of character considering how disciplined he was in the previous episodes which may be allowing the Minmay x Hikaru ship to reemerge. If that ship does happen for such a cheap thing as Kaifun's , in my opinion, unnatural/out of character development into an alcholic, it'd just be terrible, really cheap.

What I liked about this episode was how they've taken the natural progression of unrest/trouble brewing on the Zentradi side and of course that cute scene where Misa gives Hikaru some pictures of her. Too adorable.

It was great to see Max and Millia again with a kid no less!

This episode overall was decent but I just couldn't agree with how the show is handling the things that I mentioned above.

While I agree it's nice to see the aftermath of the war, I do think they forced the triangle open with way too much brute force. It completely ignores the scene from last episode about moving on from his first love. The whole series until episode 27 build upon the idea of first generating a first spark with Minmay and afterwards, little by little building a relationship with Misa. It worked pretty well until episode 27 when characters finally came to terms with their feelings and move on... and suddenly Hikaru has Minmay stuff all around, ignores his duty to go and see her, all while Misa acts like a girlfriend (seriously, poor Misa here) and suddenly Kaifun is an alcoholic.

The general plot elements were really good, but the development of characters (or in some cases lack of) was awful.

Nice epilogue: seeing the afterwar rebuild is interesting, with its little troubles from non-conformists zentradi, but why is this looking like it simply ignores the whole previous episode for what concerns the love triangle @CodeBlazeFate ?
Kaifun, who had already shown how changing he was previously (by being not happy about the peace dialogue and Minmei helping in the war's more peaceful resolution), finally lets his true colours shine through alcohol. Minmei sounds like she "suddenly" regrets her choice and realizes what she almost had with Hikaru, when it was already hinted at before then threw off the show.

Some Zentradi are still giants, must be useful for reconstruction purposes but I wonder how they are feed enough. Or they don't eat? o_o

3/5 Those last episodes have a high risk to be more detrimental than a single episode epilogue.

@hey_p And that's exactly the part what is ignored in this episode.

The love triangle is pretty much "solved" in episode 27: Hikaru tells Minmei he loved her, making it explicit that he moved on; Minmei says that she likes Kaifun (I think she says "maybe", I don't remember exactly even though I watched it less than an hour ago lol); Hikaru and Misa don't talk explicitly about their feelings, but it's clear that they like each other (probably romantically). It is shown when he saves her and she says that they're probably the only people on Earth, and Hikaru responds that's it's not so bad, because they're not alone.

Fucking hell. We're back to the tedious love triangle. It's been two years since he said "goodbye" to Minmay, even started living together with Misa, but for whatever reason is still infatuated with her.

But Kaifun turning into a raging drunkard (complete with bottle smashing) was pretty hilarious.

One thing that confuses me is why it took so long for some Zentradis to act up. It sounds like things had been pretty peaceful in the 2yrs since the war ended, so why are they acting out now? Is a reason actually going to be revealed, or were they just hoping we wouldn't question it....?
Also Misa's and Hikaru's relationship is so.. weird. She had a key to his house and apparently does some housework for him, but they don't live together, or even seem to be dating. That's just.... odd.
And I wonder if Kaifun will be redeemed before the end of the series. Turning him into a bitter, alcoholic pacifist is interesting, but I wouldn't put it past this series to have him become a changed man now that Minmay's left him.

So the live action ending we've been seeing of the past episodes; a white album with pictures of Minmay next to a helmet inspired the scene where Misa found Hikaru's album next to Roy's helmet.

More info can be found on the liner notes for episode 3 where the standard ending was first used

Lol. Because bad writing. The writers weren't exactly sure what they were doing.
Kaifun is still being use as a plot device. Now his attitude is more shittier so that it can give Minmay a reason to leave him. Well at least Minmay has matured now. Why the fvk she liked Kaifun in the first place?

This anime is getting annoying and I dont think I can enjoy this anymore but hey 8 episodes to go. 1 per day and I can finish this.

What a strange episode, it started out with disappointment - 2 year time skip? I loathe time skips in general but I was mostly sad we didn't get to see Hayase and Hikaru's first kiss, but after this episode I don't know if they are even in a relationship or not?

Hikaru's apparent lingering obsession with Minmay completely washed away the joy I had felt from last episode which had me going to bed with a smile. Hayase is an amazing woman who deserves so much better than this and when she handed Hikaru the photo's my heart broke.

I was hoping that with 2 years having passed Minmay grew fat or something, seeing Kaifun drinking heavily and arguing with her well.. Not going to lie, it felt great - finally some karma. What bothers me about it is now after 2 years of banging her cousin she starts to miss Hikaru, the guy who finally landed a good woman after Thotmay gave him the cold shoulder over and over.

It's not like I ever really liked Hikaru anyway, I just really want Hayase to be happy with her being the only decent person in the whole show. I guess Global is alright too but he's an old man, I lowkey want Hayase to end up with a good man like him but I just feel like she deserves more but the options are scarce.

If something good came out of this rollercoaster it's that I'm definitely curious to see where this is going to go. Just please god, don't have Hayase end up with Kaifun.

Ah yes, the timeskip. I should've guessed!

Glad to see the scene that the ED is based on, very cute.

The cut from Hikaru fighting with Zentradi and him returning to Macross city was...abrupt, to say the least.

But damn, it's been 2 years and Hikaru still isn't with Misa despite all she does for him? Unfair! Looks like we're gonna see a "competition" between her and Minmay. She even threw his medal in the post office box lmao.
