It might be gradual, but slowly but surely, the three are starting to act and become more like a family, and I think that was my favorite part of the episode tbh. Did like the introduction of Anne's new "forever friend" Diana as well. It's nice she's made a friend this early on already, happy for her :)

Off topic, but WHERE TF is my Naoko Yamada OP/ED?!!?

After confronting her fate with Matthew and Marilla, Anne finally learns what lies ahead. I knew Matthew wanted to keep Anne like a daughter—it was written all over his face in the previous episode. And by the end of that episode, Marilla had also started to sympathize with and like her.

Rachel got what she deserved, lol. Anne *rocked* Rachel *shocked*! I loved Anne’s dramatic act during the apology. But the most surprising part was how easily they ended up on good terms.

Finally, Anne meets a lifelong friend—Diana. She seems like a caring and kind-hearted kid.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode with its drama, though Anne’s behavior sometimes ticked me off—especially when she made a mistake and instantly started crying, or just cried in general.

Anne is a little too emotional at times, having friends might help her control those emotions, probably.

These two episodes have been lovely. I'm wholeheartedly enthralled with this anime! Anne is a charming and entertaining character, and Diana seems the perfect friend for her. I can't wait for next week!

When you get hit with the hard chocolate caramel disrespect

Prince Edward Island is so lucky to have received someone as entertaining as Anne. I'd be willing to bet a good part of Mrs. Lynde accepted that "apology" out of sheer respect of the pure theater of it alone, and how could you not want to be a bosom buddy with a face like that?

I have a very mixed feelings on the new remake so far tbh. While they able to keep the essence of the character and the story intact, I felt like the charm is missing. And also damn 1 episode of the remake is equivalent of 4-5 episodes of the old anime, that was a really quick pacing for rather supposedly slow story where we slowly watch Anne grow older over time. All the small character nuances or more complex character animation from the old one is simply replaced by much more comedic or goofy expression and crystal clear animation of the modern anime. The faithful oath between Anne and Diana is supposedly monumental and much more symbolic with flowers and small river as the symbolism of their oath. With the scene of that symbolism removed, it lacks impact or significance of this faithful encounter for Anne as this is the first time she has a real friend (bosom friend). Feels like they also cutting through her scene with Diana too much with her play swinging together and playing in Diana's bedroom is completely removed as well. Hmm for a remake, I think they did a decent job to reintroduce Anne's story to the new audience. But if you want the best experience to properly enjoy the story, I can't recommend enough to watch the old one anime instead. It's slow pace and much more melancholic breeze in each episode really brings out the feeling of being a proud parent watching their daughter growing up slowly without the feeling of rushed.

@AboAhmed130 You aren't alone. The anime is so freaking fast lmao.

I'm too old for the innocent girl friendships from Victorian novels. All I can think about is how the original book inspired Class S or how lucky the girls were to be ignorant of real life back then. Also, were redheads really that discriminated against in those places and years? Or is this a deliberate exaggeration? I was redheaded in preschool before becoming brown-haired and no one ever criticized me for it. Then again, I was a Slavic-Semitic boy in the former USSR, not a Scottish girl in the Victorian era. Anyway, I love the authenticity of this show. I haven't read the original novel, but it feels like I'm listening to Victorian fiction right now.

@AboAhmed130 I've never watched the old anime, as far as I know the new one is an adaptation of a newer manga based on Montgomery's original novel. But I can say that the anime does give vibes of old animation in a good way.

Does this anime not have an OP or ED? That'd be weird.

Seriously, what is up with people disrespecting redheads/gingers?! I think they look wonderful. Ig I can never truly understand the hate towards them cause I'm not American or European. I know "gingers have no soul" is some type of ancient stereotype, but I still see some people on Xitter unironically hate on gingers sometimes which is just weird to me.

Anyway, Anne is such a drama queen. I love her lol. She's an eccentric little girl, and I'm glad she finally made a friend.

Looks like she'll finally go to school in the next episode. That's pretty good for a rural area in the early 20th century. Gonna be fun seeing Anne causing trouble with a boy.

As for redhead discrimination, it could be that she is of Irish heritage, and they were discrimated against a lot in those days.

I found it funny Anne kept calling Rachel "Oba-chan", lol.

These first two episodes have been nothing short of masterful. Beautiful. So much good stuff to talk about in this one!

“I love pretty things and I hate to look in the glass to see and see something that isn’t pretty” this fucking broke my heart. Anne’s insecurity, social anxiety and separation anxiety are hard to watch, but again it really shows what a kid losing both parents at such a young age can do to them.. and the importance of having good foster/adopted parents. Anne you’re a sweetheart and idc what some fat old lady says, your red hair is something to be proud of, not ashamed! Really gross that Mrs. lynde would talk so nasty to a child. I get Mirilla and Marcus wanted to teacher her to be the bigger person but I’m absolutely not making my daughter apologise to someone who wronged them. All’s well that ends well though.

Generally loving how well the show captures Anne’s anxiety, she behaves exactly how you’d expect a kid who’s been through what she’s been through would. For example, the way she tells Mirilla she’s afraid of being sent back to the orphanage ๐Ÿ˜ฉ luckily the Cuthberts love Anne and she’s going to be at Green Gables for good!

Anne making her first friend was sooo fucking cute. She’s got the parental love and now she has that friendship that all young kids need to really help her settle into her new life. Notice how Anne asks her to be “friends forever” because of her abandonment issues. Doing a whole friendship ceremony was sooo cute ๐Ÿ˜ญ I love them. Communicating across town with the lights at night was so sweet too! The whole last 6-7 minutes warmed my heart!

"...queer way of expressing herself."

I know is horrible to think like this but, that 'sending back to the asylum' after the Sunday school, felt a little manipulative.

Another awesome episode! I love Anne’s honesty, especially when she apologizes without actually regretting what she said, she’s totally right though ahaha.

Her personality is both touching and really funny... And now she finally made her first friend since she arrived!! :D

@BlichoBoy She says that in the book, and it's not her trying to be manipulative, just overdramatic.

Yeah, as much as I like the show so far, and believe me I do, I am worried that the fast pacing means they're gonna try and do too much in too little time in this show. One of the reasons the 1979 anime is so beloved is because it really took its time to flesh out the characters, the setting, and reveled in its pensive atmosphere. It really felt like you were right there with the characters, taking it all in, smelling the grass and walking among nature. It made optimal use of the time it had, which I doubt Anne Shirley will do, especially with the rumors that it might tackle later novels in the series.

Yeah back in the "good ole days" pretty much anyone slightly different was pretty mercilessly teased or worse by the self proclaimed normal majority. It still happens obviously but not nearly as much. People pour scorn on pc, wokeness, etc, but you wouldn't want to go back to them days.

Episode 5/5

I feel so comfortable watching this, because everything seems so simple but Anne always brings simple things as something complete, complex and imaginary. I love this perspective of hers.I also like that she doesn't take offense and stays quiet, but even after that she still managed to apologize.

Finally she had her "bosom friend" So cute, the two of them swearing friendship, gosh I'm really loving this, and I can't describe much but I just know that I'm simply fascinated by it. The scenery is perfect, it looks like a watercolor painting. Stunning โœจโœจ

No OP or ED yet huh, no big deal really but hopefully we get them eventually. Also I figured the pacing of this one compared to the original was really fast, the plot with Rachel seemed like something the OG would have spent a whole episode on, but as someone that’s experiencing this story with this version first, I can say I’m really enjoying it so far and it doesn’t feel fast.

And it was in this episode we got to see Anne have a sort of explosive tantrum, it is a very kid thing to get overly mad about something small, but I’m ngl I feel like Rachel deserved it lol, yeah Anne shouldn’t have blown up at her but it was definitely a warranted response. But it’s good she was punished for this, can’t let your kid going around thinking she can yell at people and whatnot, and thankfully Matthew pushed her to apologize just to “smooth things over”, and boy was that top 10 anime apologizes lol, so overly dramatic, but I expected no less from Anne.

The second half of the episode was a bit dramatic too, at least the first bit where Anne put way too many flowers in her hat, I think one flower would have been perfectly fine but she way overdid it lol, I kinda got secondhand embarrassment from it even, I’m glad Marilla set her straight after that but it was sad seeing a crying Anne because of it. However, things went back to being wholesome again when Diana came into the picture, I really like her addition, she seems like a sweet girl and a perfect buddy for Anne, I’m interested in seeing how their friendship blossoms.

História, personagens, trilha sonora, animação… tudo me conquistou. Super recomendo!

So far, this anime is peak. I love the colorful style they gave it; it can feel a bit overwhelming at times, but it's really appealing and healing. The setting is pretty accurate as well, and the characters are very likeable. This might be on its way to be one of the best anime of the year.

When Anne apologized to Ms. Rachel in such a goofy way, I couldn't help but grin. "You little shit." So overdramatic and kinda devious, but wears her heart on her sleeve.

And the stuff she says. "Half will taste twice as sweet if I give some to Diana." So corny but cute.

She's a very entertaining character, a breath of fresh air from the other seasonals.

I was dying during that apology sequence, haha. That was legit hilarious. I should have known she would be overly dramatic, but I didn't expect the full-on stage-play level of dramatization. Also, I love how she worked in the, "What I said to you was true too...," during her apology, lol. Such a good scene.

Aside from that scene, the entire episode was great once again. I'm loving this one so far.

@Bass_it_up I know, but I always thought that things like jokes about redheads not having souls were deliberate exaggerations to parody the absurdity of such prejudices. I've often seen Scots and Irish people portrayed as redheads in movies, so given that Montgomery was Scottish, I wonder if this was a subtle comment or something.

With Anne staying with the Cuthbert Family, she's more than elated, but having someone like the old gossip Rachel Lynde insult her for her looks, which this does not slide with Marilla being repentant, and both wife and orphan are in a deadlock. It's only with Matthew's secret arrangement that Anne would get to apologizing to his own wife and Rachel, though with how dramatic the apology went for the latter, Rachel allowing her to pick some June lilies off her flower vineyard, and the life in Green Gables is becoming the bit happier.

Marilla giving Anne permissio to attend to the nearby church, though decking her hat with flowers is quite the unsightly sight that only infuriates the wife all the more. And going to meet another friend of Diana and the Barry family, Anne quickly dominates the conversation with the former and makes her very first bosom friend.

Anne of Green Gables...with an e, life is looking more pleasant on Prince Edward Island.
