Lady threw a baby. (oO)

Also, they made Hayase look like a hypocrite with that close-up of the photo of her and her ex.

Poor baby. Wasn't humans and Zentraedi genetically the same, If you throw that baby he is going to get hurt.

If you want to hold a baby, why don't you make one of your own? I made this one.

Talk about stingy eh? But I almost fell out of my seat when I heard that. LOL To think the baby is now a weapon too, the factory didn't stand a chance against it after all, what will they think of next?

I think Misa should have shouted right in Hikaru's ear: I WANT TO HAVE YOUR BABIES, HIKARU!!! XP

I see Britai is still around after all...

They freaked out by a little baby xD I think the ultimate weapon would be showing the process of making a baby to the Zentradi XD I guess they would die from the shock~

One has to realize that Milia is the first Zentraedi mother...ever! She's got no knowledge of babies or how to treat children except from what she sees humans do. And she's a warrior to boot, who wants her daughter to grow up strong and independent like her. I like it that Milia isn't portrayed like a fully acclimatised human.

Oh, and Robotech deleted the "baby throw" from their version of this episode. Couldn't stomach it I guess LOL.

"Catch!" lol

But seriously, the significant drop in overall quality since episode 28 is a huge letdown: characters are barely recognizable, animation is minimal, effects are poor, direction is weak and the writing is cringe worthy (baby in the cockpit). It's Nadia and the Secret Blue Water all over again, not a nice feeling.

Well to be fair this arc is a bit of an add-on, since the studio expected it to end with the battle for Earth, and then found it had a monster hit on its hands and extended it for another season. Unfortunately we had Hayase's confession scene blocked by a space battle of all things....c'mon Hikaru man up. Making a baby with Hayase doesn't sound like much of a chore to me...

Good ep, but I have mixed feelings about this arc so far. It's not just the fact that the story basically restarted itself. The Macross was a character -- a location which not only felt like "home" (thus creating instant stakes whenever it was attacked) but also provided a central reference point around which every other plot revolved. Doing away with it as the main location has made the show feel slightly...formless? Not sure how to describe it.

Thankfully the show still has elements of intrigue to keep me interested. My OTP will acknowledge their feelings soon. So close. ^-^

Baby in the cockpit was adorable and badass and totally irresponsible.

This season feels kind of unnecessary and the emphasis on characters over plot feels lopsided compared to the rest of the show. I don't know why they had time to party on the way to the battle. They could've just folded to where they needed to go to begin with. The supervision army battleship seemed like total filler but maybe it'll be mentioned again. I totally forgot there was another army. Who the hell are they? They supposedly planted the macross as a booby trap to turn the Zentradi against whoever found it (why???) but they're almost never brought up. I wonder if they'll become anything more than a convenient plot device by the time the show's over. There are only 6 more episodes and they seem intent on tying up Hikaru's love life. I'm still pissed they turned Milia into a figurative walking vagina. I guess culture has an emasculating effect on everyone, even masculine women. The theme of gender segregation producing abhorrent warrior culture strangely clashes with all the characters becoming even bigger gender stereotypes as the show progresses (except the male Zentradi). On the plus side, the short battle was beautifully animated and I didn't note any derp eyes or other retarded visuals. I wonder if Macross started that whole "curvy missile trajectory" thing. I really love it. It doesn't really make sense for multiple missiles to fly in different arcs toward the same target but it sure looks cool. Hayase seems to be the favored pairing but I don't think Hikaru likes her at all. It seems inevitable that Minmay will come around to Hikaru since Kaifun turned into shit dad but I wonder how he'll handle being in a position of power in their relationship for once. I wouldn't complain at this length if this wasn't such an intriguing show. It really is great in a lot of ways but weird and flawed in others. I wonder if putting a baby in the cockpit was part of it's origin as a Gundam parody. Maybe they had to do something even more ridiculous than having children on a warship. The fact that no one emotionally reacted to the earth being destroyed and almost everyone dying seems like it had to be somewhat self-aware too. Neither of those things were played for laughs though, so what gives?

I like how they tackle the issue of the Zentradi having trouble adapting to society but what I don't like is how it seems like Hikaru's development/character has reverted to how he was in the early half of the show to me. An example of this would be when he abandoned his squad to go and see Minmay, it just felt so wrong considering how he had always mentored Max and Kakizaki about not being overconfident and overall being a good soldier. Then there's the fact that episode 27 had made it seem like Hikaru was over Minmay, that he had moved on. They even had that scene where he saw Kaifun and Minmay kissing and he smiles like he's happy for her. The OTP should of happened a long time ago too with how they were all over each other after reuniting although I guess it could've been possible that they were busy rebuilding Earth that their relationship never really happened? I don't know.

Still love that this arc has elements of what I loved in the previous ones, like when Millia was just holding up the baby saying this is the symbol of protoculture and they were just freaking out lol.

Guessing Misa was about to confess to Hikaru right before she was called up. Damn timing.

I agree with the OP so much crazy good fun revolving around the baby. I am reminded of the old Talking Heads song "Up All Night" about treating babies as cute toys.

But he dead, man! Or at least MIA - Misa was hoping to find him on Mars, but he'd left with the base crew that were then wiped out en route by anti-UN forces, IIRC / if I understood correctly.

P.S. Your reviews are great. :)

For a while I was feeling like Ichijo x Hayase was the first presumably doomed ship I've ever actually cared about, but now I'd rather she be happy with someone else.

Humanity is reduced to less than 100,000 (oh, Macross is light compared to Gundam 0079, except...) and this man-child spends two years letting Hayase's clock tick while he faps to his Minmay pictures. GET OUT. To quote Fight Club, "I felt like putting a bullet between the eyes of every panda that wouldn't screw to save its species."

Speaking of which, that's the most obvious issue Earth's Zentradi have: no waifu and no laifu. I'm serious. They want to go back to war as a backup plan, a last resort. The Zentradi were attracted not just to music, but to kissing and "even more." The ones who rebel all seem to be single males, whose lives are to be beasts of burden for humans. Even the micloned ex-spies aren't shown to have started families. If there aren't enough available or willing human girls, use the usual Zentradi mechanized reproduction process to create some! I've heard of programs like this in real life, I think it was in the middle east - government recruiting wives for hardened warriors, successfully reintegrating them into society.

And another thing, the amount of food needed to power a giant human would be a massive expense compared to fuel to power equivalent heavy machinery. The humans have repeatedly shown a ridiculous ability to rebuild their city from recycled rubble in a very short time, without Zentradi help. Why keep so many in giant form? Not because the Zentradi want it, since it's obviously keeping them celibate and frustrated!

Baby tossing is awesome. If this show were just that green-haired Mary Sue couple it'd be a 10. I want Max & Milia's Slice of Life / Rom Com / cute halfbreed girls doing cute things / ANYTHING.

Hikaru's becoming pretty annoying. Just like at the beginning of the series. I said it in the previous episode, but in terms of character developments, they're really trying to completely erase episodes 11 (when they're taken prisioners) to 27. That's a shame.

I'll probably end up with a positive opinion of the series, but not nearly as good as it was on episode 27.

Let's see if they manage to patch thing up a bit in the last 6 episodes, but I fear that it might get worse.

I thought Milia was supposed to be smart and a prodigy. It's been two years since she married Max, but still hasn't adjusted to human culture. If anything, she seems to have regressed (just like every other major character in the show). Even the 3 stooges are better integrated than her (even if they had a bit of a head start).

And Hikaru needs to be thrown out of an airlock. He couldn't get any more pathetic even if he tried.

The baby looked so happy while her mommy kills on the battlefield that was a sweet bonding moment.

Strange Easter egg on the display inside Milia's cockpit: "MIRIA IS BEAUTIFUL CONTAINER. DOWN. ALL SAFETY". Something about the baby, it seems.

Some unrelated stuff on the screens. Definite integral, sum of elements, some graphs, etc

"If you want to hold a baby, why don't you make one of your own?" xD You see, Milia, there's a probem with that, or, to be precise, with Hikaru

Max in the apron was everything I needed to see.

Who was the woman calling Misa and Claudia to come to the bridge? I believe they were the only ones together with Milia lol. Looks like a mistake. And just what info on the Supervision Army did Zentradi tell our heroes?

This episode marks the first time there's a background song that's not Minmay's

I'm almost sure that the giant space station will be captured by Kamujin...by the way, rememeber when the fold system of Macross disappeared for unknown reason? Me neither :p Not sure if they're gonna put up an explanation.

Also just thought that it'd be cool if Misa's photos appeared in the ED. After all, Hikaru said that he had placed them in his album.
