Yui enters the show! Cute episode.

Chika got the chance to enjoy the onsen along with her friend Koyomi. It's still a very cozy episode of character bonding, scenery, and cute girls doing cute things. This new Yui girl seems more talkative but she should fit along the cast just fine.

A funny start to the episode. Now a new character, Yui, joins the frame—she looks like a fun and cute character, and someone who’s a little too into history. Yui seems to strongly admire Chika.

Some good motivation from Chika as Yui’s senior, and it turns out Chika has been a hardworking student all along. Chika finally got to eat the long-awaited udon.

Traveling with a kouhai this time who is shamefully still bonded to school vacations.
During school vacations it's the worst time to travel it's busy everywhere prices are higher and you need to have a reservation if you want to stay at a popular place.
If you still in school or have kids going to school you don't have much choice, but if you don't have to worry about this things always avoid periods where schools have holidays.

The girls had a nice time tho and that's what matters.

Hmm a trip to a hot springs this time huh. Kinda unfortunate that the trolley wasn't running though. To think that Yui would be the jealous type. Looks like she really admired Chika as a role model. Still as a history buff she sure was a bundle of joy ths time round.

One thing to keep in mind, do research thoroughly before traveling.
The squid they ate at the beginning of the episode was hotaru ika. It is a species of bioluminescent squid found in Japan.

Locations:
Unazuki Onsen
Kajika Restaurant
Hotel Kurobe
Yamabiko Observatory

Here is the Kurobe Gorge Railway's 2025 season schedule.

Welcome to Kagawa Prefecture, the smallest prefecture by land area and the land of sanuki udon. tbh, they should have travelled to Takamatsu by the overnight sleeper train, Sunrise Seto. But, well, Sunrise Seto's ticket is very hard to book at short notice, and especially during the peak travel period like the Golden Week.
Sadly, they didn't visit the Ritsurin Garden. It's a major tourist attraction and a large historic garden in Takamatsu.

Locations:
Takamatsu Station
Takamatsu Chikko Station
Udon Honjin Yamadaya I'll definitely go to this restaurant. Saved.
Yakuri Cable Car
Yakuri-ji
Takamatsu Castle

That's the Olive Line ferry, which links Takamatsu with Shodoshima.

Another really calm and funny episode.

Yui and Chika have a really good relationship. Yui cares about Chika a lot and looks up to her a ton, it's pretty cute honestly. She does talk a lot and she likes to talk about stone walls, a lot. The udon looked so good, I really want it. I need to go there now to get it. The new ED song was really good, wonder if it will show up more.

Great episode, next week is going to be fun.

The yuri vibes were so strong and undeniable in this ep, my fave so far! Chika and Koyomi at Unazukionsen was fun, but the second half with Yui and Chika in Shikoku was the highlight this week.

First of all, this show just really does a great job of showing all the REAL struggles of travel lmao. Chika not planning ahead for the trolley ride with Koyomi and then the Golden Week hotel situation with Yui was so real. So many places I’ve gone in blind and didn’t do enough research and now I’m annoyed because I can’t do some of the cool shit. So always try to get a basic idea of what you wanna do before leaving home!

Yui would be an ideal travel partner for me because she’s so into history and culture! My mom do not be caring about any of that shit when we’re in different countries, she just wanna shop 😭 so having someone like Yui who can nerd out with me about castles, shrines and temples would be amazing. It’s dope we got a Shikoku travel ep too because I feel that’s Japan’s forgotten island.

What’s even better is how much she idolises Chika. Chika may not think of herself as someone impressive, but Yui thinks the world of her as a kouhai and in just one episode all of those feelings came across very well. “I’m a little sad we’re in seperate rooms though” oh girl I know what you are lol

Another thing I liked about this ep is it shows how nobody tours Japan more than Japanese people, especially during Golden week. Do NOT come during that time because everything is more expensive and there’s so many people travelling it’s a nightmare. Shoulder season(September-March) is the best time to visit! Also Japanese summers just suck

Can’t wait to see the sake trip with Riri next week lol.

This week, Chika goes on an amusing journey with another friend.
Yui is a bit shy and a very big history nerd, but also quite the fangirl of her former senpai.
It was another fun trip overall.

Looks like next week might be sake girl time, can't wait.

I don't know what it is, but this ep just didn't do it for me. It felt like they just eat udon and went to see the castle. Maybe the trip felt rushed for not taking the whole ep. Maybe I like the first girl companion more than the kohai. Maybe I like it more when she travels solo.

dunno

I thought the same thing.

Chika and friends will eventually be forced to walk around all night or to sleep under the stars during one of their overnight trips unless she starts playing it straight with the hotel reservations from now on.

Good to see Chika having another reason to travel that doesn't involve mishaps as a mangaka. Said reason being a cute and jealous kouhai wanting to monopolize her.

Another chill episode though I gotta say I enjoyed Chika and Koyomi's journey way more.

Mono shares more key points to Yuru Camp in character interactions and comedic tone.

This show is a cheap knockoff from the dollar store focusing on the traveling aspect.

Basically I watch anime as therapy and Iyashiki is designed to be just that. Some may find it boring but I just can't explain how much enjoyment I get out of 24 minutes of pure fluffiness, mild adventure and fun. There's even something spiritual about it if you ask me. Anyway, I'm the intended audience and I love it.

@griddyweeb No his point is perfectly clear and easy to understand, he didn't "misunderstand" anything it simply is his opinion so deal with it.

Compared to other iyashikei series this show definetely feels lacking in some regards. The characters are flat, there is no chemistry with each other. Everything just feels so bland and formulaic: characters, the travel aspect, the comedy, there's hardly any personality to anything here. It feels like they are just ticking boxes on their checklist of what makes an iyashikei style travel show.

I usually love these kinds of shows, but this one is missing the heart and soul yuru camp, yama no susume and even super cub had.

Three episodes into this anime. By reading the description, I thought the anime would probably be something more like Barakamon. Perhaps I was overreaching, but I was thinking an aspiring artist needing to get out of the city and find some inspiration or cool off... kinda like Barakamon, which was a touching anime. This is really a niche anime about traveling. It's almost like one big advertisement to visit Tohoku... or to teach ordinary Japanese people about Tohoku. I was commenting to my spouse about how few anime take place in Tohoku in general. I'm glad I'm learning about northern Japan, but was hoping for more drama, developments, plot, character development.... maybe she gets a phone call, maybe a site she visits inspires her to make a new manga, maybe she meets some locals and move out of the city, maybe she gets stuck and can't get back home... I guess we will see in the next few episodes where it goes.

@SpellboundTaoist he's quite literally whining about the show being mainly about the visited sights and it being a "sellout" when that's the point of the show lol The whole issue is that you try to look at this as an anime and not as an animated travel show, which literally what this is. The characters are okay as they are, they're nothing more than mascots and if we're being objective they "overperform" compared to them not even being the main focus of the show. The short screentime their story gets doesn't allow for much depth and it's pretty much in line with their complexity and the viewer's attachment to them, it's good as it is. To simply put, it's just not for you

Yeah, that was my impression as well. You're definitely not alone in that regard. I actually haven't seen Barakamon but am aware of its general premise. I'm also aware of a number of different stories, whether in anime or non-anime, with similar descriptions to the one for this series which are more about artists discovering their inspiration and passion. I thought it was going to be a fair bit more of an introspective journey and essentially a coming of age tale about a late teens, early 20s-something (however exactly old she is) aspiring mangaka. But the characterization, turns and details plot-wise are very very sparse and minimal.

Now, that's fine if it wants to go for being a pure Slice of Life and iyashikei and not have any tough drama (although a number of Slice of Life and even iyashikei SoL series do have drama and even morbidity and bleakness, so the genre/subgenre isn't all just about no problems and light) or any major type of plot development or character arc, but the problem is then it's competing in my mind against other pure SoL shows this season and I'm more taken in by ones like Ballpark de Tsukamaete! and Mono I think do a lot better job in a short time establishing serviceably compelling enough characters you care about. Not to mention older established SoL mainstays and classics.

Not saying I'm dropping it - I also still need to try Hibi wa Sugiredo Meshi Umashi from this season to see how it compares favorably or unfavorably against that. But for an adventure SoL I wished from the get-go it had handled its main character a little more...adventurously.

Very simple and cozy show.

Another relaxing episode, this time with Yui.

Great addition indeed!
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

This show is okay so far. No aspect of it is great, but I do think it's a bit better with characters travelling together.

I predict blue hair will continue to not book accommodation in advance and it'll be fine because it's not Golden Week.

Also, I suspected this would be many people's first time hearing bukkake in this context. It just means a dish with a broth or ingredients poured/drizzled/thrown on top of it, so it's pretty easy to see where the other meaning came from.

Adventure with an underclassman! 🥰🥰
It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

Both Chika and Hassu reaching Unazukionsen to conclude their 1st day expecting the much-anticipated Kurobe Gorge trolley train, though it has become the disparity that it doesn't operate in the Winter season, which the girls did not do their research well. And as if Hassu needs to push yet another friend of Chika's of Yui Unoki's buttons even more, to want to go together on a journey, the latter got her wish...but during the busy timing of Golden Week. And even with the crowd, it's the feeling that counts to finally try Kagawa's popular Sanuki bukkake udon.

Of course, Hassu easily gets jealous over this, but the unavailability of inns during the same period, though they'd count their stars trying to find a room available for them. Still, between the 3 friends, Chika is on her own spectrum, though both Hassu and Yui are on different tangents that Chika can link them both together on her own accord.

More girls to join Chika soon and providing their additional entertainment for the journeys ahead, it's going to be interesting.
