Hana definitely has talent, especially with her voice. I've read the manga version of this before and the anime imo so far adapts a light style of drama. Nothing too heavy yet but it definitely feels real with its character behaviors. Watching Hana's character growth is going to be an important part of the show. Mizuki is also obviously important and their first meeting felt like fate. She easily carries a level of charisma in this show already. Good start, overall with a lot of youth and potential character development. The chereography is great and theme songs are elegant too. |

You really can tell this is from Hibike’s creator. I mean a girl being the main aside, it’s again about a character who’s unwilling to purposefully engage herself in something she’s good at, because reasons. And yeah, a senpai sort of being her leading light. Though the fun thing is, why did the blonde senpai really go all the way to an island, through a ferry, to recruit someone for her school club lol… what??? I mean our main is the only high-school going student there on that island, so except she knew her already(which she did and which is odd) and just went there to roam around, this makes very little sense lol, though again, kids in anime work religiously for their clubs. Visuals of course are good enough, which really does add more to this feel-good feeling this series has. Also hey, our girl had a good first day at school, and she’s not feeling out of place at all as well, I mean how can anyone would, when a blonde girl tags you along to your house and stays over, just after the first day at school lol. Dope scene with that reading segment in the end, I mean that girl was really in her own world for a moment. So yeah, join the broadcasting club, because why not. That’s how she gonna meet other people as well. Yeah, I think i liked what i saw. Looking forward. Don’t make it sappy tho xD |

From the author of the juggernaut franchise that is Hibike! Euphonium a.k.a Sound Euphonium, novelist Ayano Takeda is back for the adaptation of her newest work, which is a stark contrast to being more of a comfy series, alongside Studio Bind with this show being the studio's 2nd work outside of Mushoku Tensei. SHISHAMO's OP is alright, could get used to it, alongside Sato's ED. The tiny island of Tonaki-jima with its miniscule population, and a girl who's eager to do recitations towards people, this is Hana Haruyama's life, and her being recruited by 2nd year student of Mizuki Usurai of Sumomogaoka High School's Broadcasting Club because of her talents, Mizuki really wanting her for real and not giving her any space to reconsider, she's adamant on Hana being part of the club that she's leading as club president. And as Usurai recites the school's welcome speech to the sophomores through a poem, the parallels of Hana being like Kumiko Oumae, to not want to step out because of fear, it's understandable. Mizuki having to sneakily chase Hana towards the ferry back to Tonaki Island, even to the point of having dinner with her family for an unplanned sleepover (since the ferry doesn't operate on weekends), the moot daughter understood by her mother of wanting to join the broadcasting club but could not pluck her courage to, letting Mizuki naturally convince her is the best course of action. And even with the pangs of Hana's recital exaltation in the rain which convinces Mizuki that she is fit for the club, Hana finally letting loose her real desire to join, coupled together with the ferry request, Mizuki's got it all down for Hana, ready for her to take flight with her vocals. Call this Yuri if you wish, but it's more of the same feels if you know Hibike! Euphonium's antics well. A nice start all things considered. |

I remember the days when this studio was made as a studio to make and only make Mushoku Tensei... yet here we are on our second non Mushoku Tensei show, and yeah, just like Onimai, it looks fucking amazing. But for once, we don't have a comedy nor a action show, this time we have a drama made by the one and only Hibike Euphonium author. Quite the combo we've got here, expecting big things. And yeah, this totally gives off Hibike Euphonium vibes, like Hana is just like Kumiko, trying to figure out her passion and stuff. Then there’s short-hair girl Mizuki, who’s basically Asuka 2.0, pushing, nah, straight-up manipulating, Hana into joining the broadcasting club xD I can already smell the “I wanna get better” moment coming, plus a truckload of yuri bait. But with the Hibike Euphonium author here, it makes sense why it’s giving off yuri vibes but with zero yuri payoff lol. In terms of story, yeah, it's pretty good, one of the better and interesting hooks of the season, but in terms of visuals... god. That sea scene alone gave so many goosebumps. Basically everything in the second half of the episode was just... wow. The seiyuus were amazing as well. I mean, for a show that's VERY reliant on the voice acting, it BETTER have been good. And it was thankfully. Bind has out done themselves YET again. Might be up there with Solo Leveling in terms of best looking shows of the season. Banger ED btw. |

Certainly an unorthodox topic for an anime, but more so interesting, not to mention it's set in a school setting. Anyway, our unsure heroine with a dream who likes to do a dramatic reading was at first (as one would expect) against joining the club where she can pursue what she likes ... but there is also a very pushy senpai who just let herself in without asking, whom our main girl knows for like five minutes that has something to say about that fact. The anime is also quite dramatic too, but not in like the dramatic sense. |

A voice-actress centric anime. I'd have a blast if this is genderswap but it's already good enough as it is. The solution on how Hana can join the club, I kinda expect her to live in a dorm or even live with her senpai, turns out the ferryman is the answer. |

What started from a television show she watched until it became her biggest wish now, Hana has now finally entered the broadcasting club. It is also seen that Hana clearly has a talent, but what is an obstacle is her own fear. However, Mizuki appears as if she is a light and a way out for Hana who was confused at that time, also Mizuki now gets one talented person in her club. I just like the way they execute this, especially for the heroine, this is really a good start. |

I really liked the first episode. I don't know if it will be yuri but as mc mother said, she feels more like an elder sister. I got a bit teary eyed on this first episode. Finally after years of trying to act like an elder sister to all those children, she was finally able to act selfish and was able to speak and wish for what she really wants. |

I was enjoying the episode, but it seemed a bit too fast. Around half way through, I switched to .75x speed. It was at this moment, that the episode got a lot better. And once Hana started reciting "An Asura in Spring", I fell in love with the series. (Yes, I did get emotional.) I've now watched that scene twice in 1x speed and twice in .75x speed, I'd take .75x any day! There are some disadvantages to this approach, like the occasional audio glitch, but I think it's worth it. 3/4 is still not ideal, 4/5 may be better; I don't have the the luxury to try many precise speeds. Either way, I'm happy with my choice and I will probably be watching the whole anime that way! (Even the OP and ED sound better at .75x speed!) |

Considering I really like the author's previous work, Sound! Euphonium, I felt that it was worth investing my time in checking this series out and it was well worth it. =) Studio Bind has done a nice job with the production values with how nice the visuals look, but one thing that I enjoyed the most was how the music kicked in when Hana did her reciting on the beach. You can't help but immerse yourself in the story that she's voicing out and it felt powerful and beautiful all at the same time. Mizuki was pretty persuasive in trying to get Hana to join the broadcasting club, but thankfully it worked out in the end. The pair already have a nice friendship with each other and thanks to Mizuki, the last ferry back home for Hana is later, so that she'll have plenty of time to partake in club activities without running the risk of missing her connecting back home. This was a promising start and I look forward to seeing how Hana will get on at school with Mizuki and the others in the club. |

Lesbians in a broadcasting club? Close enough. Welcome back seiyuu radio. Peak Yuri dropped. An anime about the power of storytelling and the places it can take you to mentally and emotionally is so fucking poetically beautiful. This shook me to my core I’m so hooked already. AOTS watch. Hidive don’t license much, but when they do it’s always bangers lol. Hana and Mizuki already have me in love with this story and world. As someone who absolutely loses myself in light novels, music and other mediums, it’s so cool to see that reflected in an anime. I fucking LOVED how they showed how a beautiful story can transport you to another world and make you feel almost indescribable emotions. The scene of Hana reciting that poem on the riverwalk was stunning. Also thought it was so fucking cool that the ferryman extended the hours so Hana could go to her broadcast club meetings after school. W Island, W adults and family. Production values were absurd, story seems great. I love seeing young adults who are lost find their purpose and passion in life and some yuri sprinkled in there while not being too overbearing, *cough cough* Sasakoi. This is gonna be special. |

Mizuki is so charismatic 😍, and I'm happy that, even in the first episode, Hana already decided to join the broadcasting club. Their meeting really felt like it was destined, especially since Mizuki had everything planned beforehand. I believe the drama will be light because I heard that the manga delves into heavier themes. I really liked the OP/ED songs; they fit perfectly with the anime's vibe. It reminds me a bit of Hibike! Euphonium, maybe because they're by the same author. It seems to share the idea of someone hesitating to develop a skill they're good at due to a deeper personal reason, but having a senior willing to help and guide them. |

Drama, coming-of-age, female lead cast with great voice acting, strong character development, gorgeous visuals & soundtrack, set outside of Tokyo in an underrepresented part of Japan, and a Takeda Ayano story animated by a great studio. This show checks all the boxes for people who love the GOATED Hibike! Euphonium series, and is already set to be my anime of the season. From the first episode, we see Hana struggle with making a decision on pursuing her passion of reciting stories/poems (roudoku) versus being a selfless role model and going home via the ferry right after school. Much like how Reina is a figure for Kumiko, Hana has Mizuki to guide her and help her develop. Hana's recital of Miyazawa Kenji's Haru to Shura was the highlight sequence of this episode as we can see Hana's love for roudoku explode with energy and passion. |

Episode 5/5 This has the same hibike vibes❤️ The way the two girls act, sincerely and without forced expressions, in perfect harmony, reminds me a lot of hibike. The setting is so beautiful, the crystal clear waters, birds that tune into a vibrant nature, sands, flower and trees solidify the landscape into something natural. Simply stunning scenery. The production is also top-notch, clean animation, great facial expressions adapted into the animation, consistent scene sequencing, and subtle, well-crafted movements. Along with a light and pure soundtrack that gives emphasis to the quotes of the protagonist. The story itself is a little different from what is common in slice of life anime, but it has been beautifully crafted. When the characters start quoting, an entire atmosphere is created to show a story behind that subtle quoted poem. There is an elaboration that makes you see all this and not get bored, in fact it is the opposite, I felt so reflective and intense that I can't even explain such sensations. A great start to the story, this is my second best debut of the season, behind only the medalist. Both very promising anime so far. And an excellent adaptation so far for this anime. |

@Marinate1016 If you're expecting yuri from this, you'll be very disappointed. It's literally a shoujo-ish story about idealized female friendship that was never promoted as yuri in any form. The problem is that people either mistake it for yuri because of the two female leads, or mistakenly project the meme reputation of Hibike's adaptation onto Takeda's entire work as such. |

@Marinate1016 Hibike was yuri-baited more because of Yamada's directorial intentions in the adaptation than in the original work. But in this case, I think expectations played a role, because people have long been accustomed to reading any moments of friendship between female characters as yuri subtext. The same thing with male nakama power in battle shonens. So, seeing the work for the first time you just read it as ship baiting out of habit. But of course, no one can prohibit you from shipping, especially since this work is still being published. |

It gave me chills listening to Hana recite during the beach scene, absolutely haunting. If this is going to be a slice-of-life series where they focus on reciting poetry and narrating stories while combining the words with animations illustrating the texts, combined with the excellent music, then I think this is a show that really deserves to be watched. This first episode was charming and entertaining, but my biggest question is: will it have Yuri overtones? I hope so! |

"Fiercer than any woodwind music" Are you sure about that? Lol My monkey brain start shipping Hana with her senpai. It's a very Hibike thing with the joining club and the club scouting in front of the school gate and also genki friend just like Midori in the first ep. Living in a small island, Hana is pretty secluded and quiet. But when it comes to reciting, she is more alive. Joining the club is the first step to bring her out of her shell. Just like Hibike, this is pretty slow at start and it'll slowly introduced us to the club cast with their interpersonal drama. It also requires good framing and visuals to convey the poem or story and I hope it turnsoutg engaging in the future. |

First episode was alright. Characters weren't ones I found interesting but Studio Bind did solidly here with the visuals, especially in the recitation scene near the end. The premise is kind of there for me, not too sure what the expectations are for the series for me (Sound Euphonium by the same author was incredibly disappointing for me and got worse with each season) but the first episode was very middle-of-the-road and somewhat forgettable besides the production, but has definite room for improvement which could more than happen. |
