| This was probably the best episode of the season. I absolutely adored it! Crammed full of painfully moe kurumi, and painfully moe cat-ness... Also me actually having a substantial understanding of quantum mechanics, i really like the play on the uncertainty principle. ("it's obviously impossible for the cat to be alive and dead at the same time," but we can't tell until we look, and by looking we change what's actually there.) yvanc said: Yes.Do catgirls usually have four ears? | The cat ears were cute to look at and the cat antics were fun to watch. I wish Haruhiko had gotten cat ears, though. Like how he had gotten bunny ears in episode 4. I also wanted the Schrodinger's theme to be better implemented. |

| The only saving grace of this episode for me were the cat ears/tails and Kurumi-chan. The rest was meh... and I am not even a lolicon or a furry. |

| This had to be the first really great episode in the series, I kinda liked it. I guess it's partly due to the fact that whole group has their problems solved and they are together now. Still, it felt like they are trying to copy Shaft style again. And when compared we know who does better. |

| Okay, so today I stumbled across this episode on accident. I was browsing Youtube, and the episode popped up in my Youtube suggestions (yes, the entire series is apparently on YT illegally, good job YT). After deciding why the hell not, I was treated to... something. I love catgirls, and all other manner of kemonomimi. I love cute stuff. I love show premises like this one, with the phantoms causing problems and such. Despite all that, I wasn't super into this episode. The writing was poor, the characters acted like complete idiots for the first half of the episode, and there were various issues I had with it in general. First of all, the word cat was constantly said and this guy constantly deals with phantoms yet nobody even ONCE thought that it was a cat phantom until everyone got ears. Only an idiot would be that stupid. Not to mention that the entire "twist" or "message" or whatever turned out to be the shittiest thing I've ever heard: the idea that if you believe hard enough, things can exist if they aren't being observed. Or at least I think that was it. You see, it's bad enough that it was a shit explanation, but I can't even remember or make sense of what the explanation was meant to BE. Not only that, but the cat stuff is completely off. Sure, everyone acts like a cat and gets some new appendages. So what? It's IMPLIED that they'll eventually become full cats, but even that doesn't work as an explanation! "Oh no, this child is becoming a cat fast because she says cat puns now and sometimes says nyan." She doesn't even visually get worse over the course of the episode. Saying "nyan" more doesn't make it feel more urgent, it just makes it feel like they're trying way too hard to be moe. Make her visually turn more catty! Give the situation tension! I understand it's fan service, but an episode should NEVER be just about that, or it turns out as a bad episode. In addition, the main character doesn't have much of a stake in things. Sure he maybe has an attachment to these females, but he himself doesn't seem to have consequences should he fail. He doesn't turn even remotely cattish... which brings me to my final gripe. They completely forget about the characters' becoming more catlike about halfway in. They exhibit almost no catlike traits once everyone gets ears and tail, compared to the first half where they acted like stereotypical cats the whole way through with only brief breaks (which is the part of the episode I actually kind of enjoyed and chuckled at a bit). It's like the writers forgot. Then, finally, they mention it again when they encounter the phantom ("I want to pounce..." or something) but by that point the episode is over already. All in all, this episode pushed a lot of my buttons and I didn't really like it. I do like the premise of the show, however, so I might decide to watch episodes 1-6 and 8-13 eventually. After all, the comments here seem to indicate it's an anime-original episode and that the manga-based stuff is way better than this. But until then, this is going to be my impression of the series: badly written cat girls, and badly written plot twists. |
