There is a powerful feeling that this series controls with utmost care and elegance, which is empathy.

We see Ganta open himself up again, but this time, it’s something kept especially close to his heart. He allows himself to be vulnerable with Isaki and vent out his fears and anxieties. His reason for insomnia is a direct parallel to hers. While she fears the morning not coming due to her possibly passing away in her sleep, he fears the morning coming due to it bringing back terrible trauma. He may not remember but it’s hinted by his father from last episode that it has very much to do with his mother leaving in the middle of the night.

In a culmination of passion and empathy, Isaki comforts Ganta with a kiss. It was very heat of the moment but honest, it felt earned after all they’ve been through together. These two can be so emotionally vulnerable around each other and in doing so, they feel safe and comfortable to let each other understand why they are the way they are. They lean on each other and are each other’s rocks without it coming off as cliche or forced.

You don’t get to just see that they clearly love each other, you get to see that they NEED each other. It’s shown from the way they’re able to voice their fears and weaknesses, to how they can only sleep well around each other. Isaki and Ganta laugh around each other, they cherish and are moved by each other. This is what an equal dynamic looks like and reminds me of my very first relationship in high school.

It is beautiful, tender and sweet. It’s idealized yet grounded, a wonderful balance in evoking a variety of youthful emotions in rather quiet and simple settings. A loving first kiss under the stars makes for an unforgettable summer memory. No interruptions, just two people dearly in love alone together. It seems like Shiromaru’s shrimp prophecy came true lol.

There are many reasons why I’ve never considered Kimi wa Houkago Insomnia a romcom and I hope you’re seeing and feeling it through this episode. This is what a pure romance focused story truly is. Something like this, clean of many tired tropes and archetypes, is very rare to come by. It tells of a powerful human connection of two fictional characters that can easily pass by as real people. There is such an authenticity in this story that is only rivaled by Skip to Loafer this season for me (though the latter is not as romance focused).

There is being romance of the year and there is setting a new golden standard for the romance anime genre. This story has done both in my honest opinion and I will happily die on this hill. Even with the lacking staff and rather subpar adaptation (in my opinion), the source material’s writing is more than enough to shine through the season.

There are two episodes left, I hope you’re buckled in for the end. Isaki has made her move, now Ganta has to make his.
I'm honestly a bit amazed seeing a comment this eloquent on MAL forums. You should definitely do a full review.

Best episode. The best episode of all the episodes I've watched and will watch this week. Omg. Omg!

I always love that natural kissing scene, and then it ends with laughter? God I love that scene. But other than that, the moments when they went on the bus, walking on the shore, eating gyoza and pancakes together, even the sounds of crickets and trains at night... aaaa I love it all!

Really looking forward to next week's episode!!

A BEAUTIFUL EPISODE!!!

I would dare to say that it is the best episode so far, we finally know that Nakami's trauma is the abandonment of her mother and the fear of losing everything.
However, what I did not expect was that Magari would take the first step, she kissed him!! Now my anxiety is at its peak, I don't want anything bad to happen, please!!!

This episode is so strong, the vibes are immaculate. I feel like my soul just took a warm cozy bath. This adaptation as a whole has been alright, hasn't improved on the source material or detracted from it, but this episode was *MWAH*, chef's kiss. More soft cuddly good moments thanks

Ok, that kiss made me lose it a little. I was happily flailing about grinning like a weirdo and slammed my foot into the leg table but I don't even care, that's how happy I am! (It hurts like hell now though)

@DiamondDimoDaddy Well put! It's what I'd like to say if I could put my thoughts into words.

This, this was quite the powerfully emotional episode. As we got to see the two closer to each other both with their strengths and weaknesses, a bond started to form and they laid out the reasons they thought lead to them having insomnia. It's food for thought and certainly a relatable position for many people. The show doesn't shy away from showing us what that's all about and the fact that they ended up kissing portrays a reliability that goes beyond what words can describe. I was so invested in this trip and it'll be pretty sad when it ends.

Holy crap Nakami's reason is so relatable. I don't have insomnia but I do get a bit depressed every night wishing that today would just continue and tomorrow won't come.

This show is really starting to grow on me! I like how the romance is part of the story's flow and not the center of attention. Feels very natural and sweet!

Also, Ganta's reason for his insomnia is literally me at the end of every school holiday.

How can we not give this episode a 5-star?
They finally adapted one of my favorite events in the manga into anime.
This episode adapted chapters 44, 46 to 48 of the manga.
But the real climax of this anime will be as Nakami said, will be the Mawaki Seki Site, their final target location.

Couldn't have phrased it better, this is very true and not something I have found in that form in any other romance anime I've watched, I believe.

It feels very real and in a sense realistic - not something we're getting often and genuinely from shows *in general*.

The more this anime goes, the more happy I am they've found each other since the start.
This was a good episode showcasing the different feelings this series has as a whole between the serious happenings of their pasts and problems dealing with anxiety and sorrow along with lighthearted romance so much that they're so silly and goober-like it's really cute and makes me so happy for them.
I wonder if Nakami will actually say what he's feeling or if something happens preventing it and so like he might have to mention it in the future instead.

"The last episode of this anime has been a true masterpiece! The plot has taken an unexpected turn and has left me speechless. From the beginning, the character development has been impeccable, but in this chapter it has reached a new level. depth level.

The episode has been full of intense emotions and shocking moments. The dialogues have been brilliant, revealing the true essence of the characters and adding layers of complexity to the story. Every word spoken had deep meaning and kept me on the edge of my seat at all times.

In addition, the animation has been spectacular. The details in the backgrounds and character designs are exquisite, and the action scenes are fluid and exciting. Every movement was full of energy and perfectly conveyed the intensity of the clashes.

The episode has also managed to create a haunting and suspenseful atmosphere. The lighting and music choices have been successful, creating a tense and mysterious atmosphere that kept me intrigued at all times. Furthermore, the use of silences at key moments has been very effective, generating a sense of anticipation and wonder.

Finally, the cliffhanger at the end of the chapter has left me breathless. It has left numerous unknowns and questions unanswered, and now I'm looking forward to seeing how the plot will unfold in the upcoming episodes.

In summary, this chapter has been a delight for the senses. The combination of a fascinating plot, well-developed characters, impressive animation, and captivating atmosphere has resulted in a truly exceptional experience. I can't wait to see what surprises the next episode has in store for us. This anime never ceases to impress me!"

I loved this episode. I visited Mitsukejima back in summer 2017 and ep 11 gave me back some good memories of that visit. There were hardly any tourists and it was an overcast day. I wasn't brave enough to step on the stones all the way to the island, so I could feel Ganta's anxiety here pretty well. Ganta and Misaki also visited briefly Rokkosaki Lighthouse, a place I visited too. The weather back then wasn't great though and I couldn't take pictures of the nightsky as I previously had planned.

Besides that, that kiss between them was pretty cute, like in the manga.

It's lovely how the last episode of Vinland Saga S2 being quite a SoL did a better job in his genre than this show, even when VS S2 writting has been weaker than his 1st season. Yet, why I compare a qualifier for masterpiece of the animanga with some random run of the mill SoL? That's pity from me.

Btw, didn't the fanboys said how this show took Insomnia seriously and showed us the struggles of people who suffer it? One of the biggest lies I had seen in a while in anime, the show betrayed people who suffer insomnia by giving the MC's traumas/anxieties as causes of their sickness, I guess that if an anime character is gay it's because he got abused as a kid by some male adult, excellent writting ngl.

Also when they are going to have sex? Male MC reminds me of my passiveness in my HS days and the chances I missed to have sex because of that, it annoys me as hell.

Anyways, this was the tipping point of the show, one episode left and I'm thankful of that, 0.5/10.

no buildup to nakami opening up so it just felt so forced and i didn't feel anything while watching that. it was as if they put nakami crying just to make that kiss happen. idk why is it that first kisses happen in most fiction when the other person is vulnerable and is crying. not like i'm not happy they kissed but the execution could have been much much better.

For you to say no build up meant you somehow just skipped straight to the kiss. Did you miss all the time they spent together and how Ganta felt something was off? He finally felt comfortable enough after all the time he spent together to let her know how he felt about his time with her. One thing led to another and he decided to let her in because he trusts her enough. The execution was perfect fine so I really don’t get your problem with it.

The breakdown as an extension of him unloading his trauma. That’s exactly the case of what happened with Isaki. Both teens have shared their reason for their insomnia and broke down because it’s something that hurts them deeply. The other is there to comfort the other in their own ways. I don’t get how it’s all of a sudden because he did the same thing during the bus scene and Isaki comforted him then. There’s definitely precedence for him doing that because it’s something that strikes him much deeper than failing to meet people’s expectations.

i do get the meaning behind it but let's just say it happened fast. they were sitting there, nakami starts talking and within a second starts unloading. it's not like it is unexpected or anything but the "moment" happened too suddenly, if anything, nakami's crying felt forced as if they used that as a pretext for the kiss.

I can see where you’re coming from but again, it only happened slightly faster than when Isaki cried. It’s a sensitive memory that he’s had repressed for a long time and hadn’t addressed unlike Isaki who has been throwing around the flags of her condition. It’s sudden because it comes at him much quicker and all at once compared to Isaki. I get that it’s probably your personal preference but it was a heat of the moment kiss that was handled well. After everything they’ve went through, it felt earned for this crucial moment when both have finally shared their reason for their insomnia. They were absolutely comfortable enough and close enough for the kiss to not have felt forced in any ways imo.

That kiss scene watered my crops, cleaned my house, cured my back pain, mowed my lawn and cooked me healthy meals to last me all week. What a healthily unexpected, adorably clumsy interaction that does their dynamic full justice!!! This kind of clear mutual pining is my favorite breed of romance and watching their domestic shenanigans only fuels that fact further, I seriously can't get enough of these two.
