THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- Despite everything going on, I like how Shiki just faces the future rather than drown in some despair. Having new allies on their side is cool. I actually like that Baitou guy. He seems excited and has an energetic personality but can also lose his cool when pushed. Also, not everyday you get to see a shark flowing around in the city. |

Well, the pacing wasn’t as slow as I wanted it to be, but the pacing was also about as fast as I expected it to be. I was hoping that this episode would only cover Day 6 (in-game Day 4) and the end conversation between Neku and Shiki in the game’s Day 6. However, I’m not surprised that this episode covered all of Day 7. But the fact that they covered the aftermath conversation after the battle is a big oof. Simply put, too many things happened in one episode. Also, those victims in that car accident on the news seem oddly familiar :D Neku got over being dead pretty easily, lol. Though at this point in the story, they’ll need to change Neku’s demeanor to make his upcoming motivations to make more sense. It just feels a little too fast because we never got much of a look into Neku’s personality. They did a pretty good job with Rhyme’s erasure scene. Rearranging it to this episode prevents it from being too sudden. Had it happened last episode, it would’ve felt way too fast. Higashizawa was never the most interesting Reaper, but he really feels like a random guy in the anime, lol. Unlike the game, Shiki and Neku’s first encounter with Higashizawa is during the Day 7 battle (unlike in the game where he talked to Shiki in Day 5). At least the battle with him was pretty cool, albeit way too short! Time for Neku to do another week, but this time with Shiki as the entry fee. Overall, an alright episode. The pacing was a bit worse than last week’s episode. The actual events in this episode were more interesting though. However, it would’ve been better if the battle with Higashizawa and the conversation afterwards was its own episode. Only 3 episodes for this first week. At this rate, we're definitely getting A New Day adapted :/ And that character tease at the end! Regardless of how this anime turns out, I'm super excited in seeing him animated! |

Damn lots happened today. RIP rhyme. Devastating twist with the revelation that only one person comes back in the game, and it was already predetermined to be shiki. Bold choice by neku to enter again, this time with Shiki as the wager. I think pacing was pretty decent today. Wasn’t as fast as I expected, but still breezed through some things. The fight against the reaper was pretty cool, albeit short. |

Moving along just as fast, with characters as conspicuous as those who played the game before. @GoldenDevilGamer thanks for providing info on the adaptation and through its paces, you're as you say: a golden devil gamer. Surviving as dead people in the Reapers' Game, and more missions to clear. Unfortunately the Reapers decide to act first, leading to Rhyme's erasure from the game. A good thing that Hanekoma comes back again to stop Beat from going loose (though he eventually did), leaving the only partner Neki-Shiki to fend on their own against more Noise and eventually the GM Higashizawa in these 7 days. GM Higashizawa...felt like the normal recurring villainy character you can find in most games, he's nothing special both in-game and now in the anime. The fight choreography with the Linkin Park feel of the OST backing it up just feels fine. One of many Composer's agents, Kitaniji finally shows up and he's as impudent. Though the question of a re-life and death is obvious, taking the Reapers' Game with the 2nd entry fee being Shiki's life, the risks in this game have to be considered heavily. An alright episode at best. |

Five days have already passed and only two days remaining for the Reaper's game. Only 4 of them are alive. Sadly, they put their guard down and Rhyme got erased. Poor Rhyme was just trying to protect Beat. Now, on the last day of the game, the Game master is here and he's really strong. That was a good fight especially that OST at the end was amazing. They beat the game but that plot twist at the end... RIP Shiki and Rhyme. This game is seriously messed up and strange. |

Poor Rhyme :( and now even though they won they really erased Shiki because of that stupid rule, damn I'm frustrated but on the other hand this episode was really good IMO, I'm looking forward to seeing what Neku can do now, I really hope he'll be able to bring them back to life (maybe at the end if it's conclusive) |

I didn't dislike this episode, actually? yay. so far, the pacing is going as expected, with three episodes to shiki's arc. as long as week 2 has slower pacing (given it's the one with the most information/backstory) i think they showcased rhyme's erasure decently. we don't have the reaction of hers being bitten in the game, so it was a nice addition. nice week 3 foreshadowing as well higashizawa was pretty useless as expected lmao he is the easiest boss in the game and not a character I particularly care, so I don't mind. it indeed felt short (and kinda sluggish? hope week 2's boss is not like this for uhhhh obvious zetta reasons) anyway can't wait for best week best boss and of course THE LEGEND of the entire game |

Since the last episode, I've been playing a bunch of TWEWY to catch up with the anime. Right now I'm stuck on Minamimoto. This was probably the best episode so far. Rhyme being erased in Day 6 rather than Day 4 was a really good choice - honestly, I felt that we didn't get to know her enough in the original game. (Maybe she comes back from erasure somehow, I don't know.) I also liked the battle against Higashizawa. It did feel a bit short, but it looked incredible and that's good enough for me. I'm not a fan of how they did the fusion moves, though. I wish that they mentioned that Beat became a reaper. |

This episode was an absolute GUT PUNCH. Even for those who knew this was coming. Seeing this animated was surreal and I felt the pain of my first playthrough all over again; EXCEPT this time it was WORSE because Rhyme had more siginificant moments in the anime than the game, something im REALLY happy the anime improved on over the game. The pacing is exactly as expected. If they are not adapting A New Day, this gives a lot more time for Week 2 to be fleshed out considering its quite a lot more heavy than Week 1 for multiple reasons. If they are adapting A New Day, then there is also ample time to do that as well. LOVED the scene with our favourite Team Rocket Reapers Uzuki and Kariya on a date at Mexican Hotdog, that was a great addition to the anime, hope we see them at the fabled Ramen shop they talk about in the game so often. Unfortunetly just like in the game, Higashizawa was done dirty, even more so in the anime because of time constraints, which I can accept if they buck up the screen time for next weeks Zetta Awesome GM. The scene with Kitaniji and the main pair was also gut wrenching. I really enjoyed the changes here. Getting to see Neku realise and react first hand to Shiki being his new entry fee was not easy to watch, especially seeing Shiki in seemingly so much pain from being erased. So far im impressed. I thought this adaptation was gonna be a total disaster when it was announced and it has for the most part blown me away with how much it stays true to the game and provide the fanservice in spades while changing things that for the most part make sense within the Alt Universe of the Anime. Only complaint for this episode was the Noise CGI seemed off; specifically the Fish Noise which are a new addition to the anime, they were really distracting in the fight scene. |

That's tuff. First Rhyme drops, and then Beat chases after. Neku and Shiki finally graduate from the seven day game, only to be met with a cruel cross-road - Neku or Shiki, who lives? Shiki passes as she had developed the most through the game, and better improved against her insecurities (kinda unfair to Neku ngl, as bro doesn't even know his past). However, Neku's price to re-enter the Reaper game is what is most precious to him, Shiki. Once again, that's tuff. |

Rip Shiki, you're the only character I cared about. Also I feel like this could've been avoided. Let Shiki get rebirthed first, and then say you'll play a second time. But no Neku's edgy antisocial ass didn't even want to say goodbye. Good job Neku. Also this will be his 3rd time playing the game, considering he has 2 entry badges already. The plot is still good albeit a bit rushed, Neku is still the worst character in the whole show. |

That’s 3 episodes, so I’m going to drop this anime now. Honestly, this wasn’t as bad as I was expecting, but it just wasn’t for me. It seems like it was for the fans of the game instead. The art was mediocre, the animation was jittery, the music hasn’t aged the best, and I didn’t feel much for the characters. However, I can appreciate that the story is somewhat intriguing, the “camerawork” during the fights is dynamic, and Shiki being sacrificed for Neku to play again was a good twist. I probably won’t pick it up again, but the time I spent watching wasn’t terrible. |

Yeah this is a bad adaptation, just upfront, its kind of amazing how much difference adapting stuff within 4 episode versus 3 can make to completely change the quality of the product. Its so obvious they were going to adapt the new day stuff as to why we are getting this week in only 3 episodes, and probably will get the next week in 3 episodes as well which I'm sure is just going to be atrocious. God its so frustrating seeing how the series COULD work and it just missing that. |

The end of the game would have been so cathartic, but the anime sucked all emotion from their victory. "Neku's changed in these seven days." I had to laugh at that. What change am I supposed to have noticed? And why didn't Neku regain his memories after winning the game? They also cut Beat from the end, even though he too should have survived the game. Who knows what he'll be doing next week? They even cut the sublime music track meant to accompany the meeting between the players and the Conductor! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4lZWXzR1VW8 I think episode 2 is the best so far, though it's missing the striptease. |

We’re very close to where I stopped watching playthroughs of this game, and I actually forgot Shiki being erased happens lol, my ray of fashion sunshine is gone. Gonna miss her a lot, I didn’t get much further than this as I said so idk if she comes back, I’d like to assume she does because she’s a main character but who knows. Rhyme’s erasure I did remember tho, and it wasn’t very impactful in the anime I feel but it was done decently. |

Wasn't a big fan of how landshark day was handled, but since week 1 is like a 5th of the game's plot at the absolute most I can kind of accept them not having a whole episode where Neku and Shiki fight waves of enemies with a sad insert in the back before taking on the shark (which should not have ever been allowed to take flight. I can't take it seriously like that). Thought the end of the episode was done extremely well though. They skipped a couple things that either didn't need to be explained or were just poor writing in general (Like giving Neku his memories back when week 2 in particular plays into the mysteries introduced in week 1) in favor of making Neku's new motive hit harder. Also, using the game's title theme to signal the beginning of the week like they did in episode 1 is a really nice touch that only people with knowledge of its existence will appreciate. Speaking of the music, this episode finally used the insert song that was hinted at an eternity ago and I'm pretty underwhelmed by its use. I'd probably like Walls more if it wasn't for the fact that the new game has a song with a similar style that's just better available to preview on its website (YouTube uploads of the rip just call it track 3). So i really hope we get more new inserts that are more up to the games' osts' standards. They're the same composer so it's not like the anime is getting some sort of store brand ost or something. |

......Hoo boy...spent too long trying to type this up... what the hell can I even say about this? I thought the anime was gonna change for the better when last episode adapted 2 days and slowed down a bit.... sure, we got 2 more days adapted here, but... look, I tried to be more optimistic and forgiving earlier on about the stuff getting rushed through and hashed and slashed through, but around this point the fairly... diluted nature of this adaptation is kinda unavoidable. ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ⋆ ✶ ...I guess it's better if we just start with the positives first... ...ok holy shit they made Rhyme's erasure a lot more brutal this time... it all originally went by so fast that both Beat and likely whoever else played this game couldn't have processed it at first, but here we even see Rhyme's reaction and more of her horrified dead stare... I'm glad they didn't put any music during this scene. i have no idea why this scene gets memed a lot but yeah On the last day, there's a cool scene where Uzuki and Kariya are both inside the Mexican hotdog place. Nothing like that with these two really happens in the game, so that was nice. I also liked when Kariya tried to offer Uzuki his lollipop haha, good to see the anime did at least remember his lollipop. ...I kinda liked how the anime kinda went about the scene where Shiki tells Neku to meet her when it's all over... the dark color choice there was pretty nice and the somewhat melancholic music was a good touch. Of course, the execution of this scene is nowhere near the impact of the source material, as there was a whole lot of stuff up to this point where it really did feel like this would be the end, Shiki specifically mentioning where they should meet, Neku's funny gag of calling Mr. Mew a pig, and all that... but God, I'd be lying if I said that I didn't smirk at Neku's smile at the end of it. Neku smiling for the first time since his arrival here in the UG really meant something. I appreciate the large amount of the work put into Higashizawa fight and it's cool to hear that one new piece of OST they promoted a bit back since the Anime Expo announcement (lol feels quite long ago, doesn't it?). I really like how the anime kinda replicates the Noise Clear animation for the end of a boss fight when Higashizawa is defeated there, really cool. Also awesome to recognize two pins used during this fight, especially Ice Risers as it's one of the many pins I used quite a bit. The feeling of three huge icicles rising from the ground just from a single stylus swipe was awesome, though I admittedly don't think the anime quite replicated that well. ..........Okay I don't even really hate this episode. I think it's just fine. I just really think this series could have benefitted from not being rushed so damn much and actually getting the 2-cour (specifically 21 episodes) runtime I wanted. Yes, I get that Neku is relatively tamer in the original Japanese version of the game than from the English localization, and I get why the anime tried to make him even more tamer... you know, it's so that those who hate edgy kids don't get as pissed off from this main character. In fact, I was actually kinda defending that with that kind of reasoning in mind from the first episode, as I figured that's what they'd do the moment I saw the very first trailer. But I think the reasonably upset Players really are right when they say this anime completely wipes Neku clean of personality and his actions from the original game. I've been reading what seems to be a Tumblr blog that notes the translation and localization changes between the Japanese and English versions of TWEWY (many thanks to @Youkasan for sharing this blog as I didn't know it existed beforehand, if you want to read it for yourself then keep in mind for SPOILERS), and it's been very interesting to read what they changed. Yes, those who talked about SubaSeka Neku are right about him being somewhat tamer... but he's not THAT much tamer compared to the anime. He still has some snark here and there, and even Shiki was made a bit pushier in TWEWY than in SubaSeka too, so Neku's not the only one with some additional blunt-ness in the English version. The anime, on the other hand, removes a couple of big things that really tells you about what Neku is like as a character. This episode specifically removes that huge (quite memorable imo too) fight Neku and Shiki have after Rhyme dies. Yes, I suppose the anime putting it here would feel off considering Neku's shown a bit of a nicer side in the previous episode, but the original game has the previous episode's events happen AFTER this episode does... and therefore it makes his nicer side later on in the week come off as a bit more appropriately surprising... maybe the anime shouldn't have done a bunch of needless George Lucasing IN THE FIRST PLACE, but I guess that's just me... Removals of stuff like this really does make a HUGE difference. Seriously, who do you believe when she tries to stand up for Neku's character development—TWEWY (DS) Shiki? Or The Animation Shiki? ....... ...I guess I should at least end on a positive... Shiki's disappearance also gets an extra edge of tragedy here too... and "It's a Wonderful World" plays again... ..... OBLIGATORY "PLAY THE ORIGINAL GAME IF YOU LIKE THIS SO FAR ANIME-ONLYS" HERE Also when Neku says "stop... stop this!" at this part, I kinda heard his seiyuu's Roxas voice all the back from KH2 hahaha.......well that makes this more tragic isn't it.... THE 3RD EPISODE Erased 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐏𝐓𝐄𝐑 𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐃. |

Yo, first Rhyme and then Shiki, wtf. Can those that are erased still challenge the reaper's game? If not, then R.I.P. Rhyme, for real this time. Shiki can still be saved probably if Neku wins the game. But shit, I did not expect them to kill Rhyme and especially did not expect that twist at the end. That confirms it, fuck the reapers. The fight with the Gamemaster was cool though, especially the soundtrack in that fight. |

I think this anime is a little bit underrated. I've seen a lot worse anime that have a higher rating is this site. Let ge me this straight, so far The world ends with you isn't a good anime, but it is pretty far from bad either. The impression that I get is that the game tells the same story in a much better wayand maybe that's way many of TWEWY are upset with this adaptation, but hey it could have been a lot worse. As an anime only I am enjoying this series and I'm serioulsy considering buying Neo: TWEWY (I'll buy the original if they port it to PS4). The game was made for the DS with touch in mind, and the gyro pointer doesn't really work that well as a replacement in tv mode. If you have a DS though, that's definitely the definitive version. It has a unique two screen combat that the Switch and Mobile ports had to take out unfortunately. It's also only around $30 for a new copy.Crow_Black said: -Hyunckel- said: Crow_Black said: -Hyunckel- said: I didn't play the game and I'm liking this anime very much. I'll play the game some day. Whelp, the fights are way too easy. Way easier than the game. They defeated the Shark in less than a minute and barely had much trouble with the game master. For an anime adapting a game which was advertised for its unique combat system back then, the fights are really damn underwhelming. |

Damn Rhyme died, she was a nice girl. Shiki and Neku finished the game but as I thought only one person can revive. Shiki was chosen to be revived only to be taken as Neku's next game payment. Now that's messed up. Also could it be that the reason Neku had two badges is cause this was his second game? If he has 3 badges at next game then that'll make it certain. |
