Yeah, I thought she just acted but he really did do her, that lucky bastard.

Lupin finally makes his appearance again and I laughed when he said that he missed Fujiko's boobs.

The whole scenario of tricking everyone and Ayan hiding in the catacombs because she wants to be with Darenzo is questionable. Darenzo tried to strangle Fujiko in one moment and in the next moment she was chilling on the couch.

I hope the next episode continues right from where they left off. That is because I want to see more of Fujiko's past, we saw something strange when she stood in the water affiliated to Lethe, she is the center of this show and I want to learn more about her.

Zenigata going all after lupin & got pour in blood.
fujiko look at water floor see her past.
oh the stage worker & performer went behind it oh burn the mask.
here lupin to see fujiko.

ok so now wonder what next how much more fujiko's past will be revealed?

Did they seriously just ruin Zenigata image. In all 3 series and movies Zenigata was never a pervert. Lupin was always the most horniest when it comes to Fujiko.

I like everything about the episode except Oscar and how the present Zenigata.

Worst ep so far. Cheap plot resolve, nearly no interesting character interaction (yeah he groped her boob) and the introduction of the inspector and Oscar were just meh compared to the others. The way Fujiko was treated felt quite demeaning, yet she didn't seem to care that much.

Well, i didn't expect actual sex to happen tbh, not with main characters. But with Fujiko's way of being, it's not that suprising. I would rather get Lupin to do her than Zenigata though, he didn't seem like someone do to it.
Then again, he didn't do well it, poor guy. Still dat's Fujiko he hit. (`-´)>

Awesome episode, it was awesome to see Lupin himself again.

Also, care to clarify what's wrong with Oscar?

You name one movie out of 200+ episodes and like 18 movies. I'm just not use to this type of Zenigata. I do know in the 1st series is was more darker. They basically made him seem like a Lupin of cops in this episode. Lupin always did the touching. Then again this is the green Jacket Lupin so its different.

wow, I wasn't expected that scene. Not that I minded but I wonder if it was a good idea... I'm not familiar with the franchise but I know that there wasn't many explicit sex scenes in Lupin with Mine Fujiko. That would make the fans annoyed because it's being unfaithful to the original and previous series. :O

Anyway, I enjoyed this episode! Was great to see Lupin's back but he didn't do much in this episode... But the chili sauce attack was hilarious! XD

Since I'm not familiar with any other work from the Lupin franchise I can't say if Zenigata is depicted adequately or not.

He certainly is shown as a rather sleazy person, someone who doesn't shy away from taking advantage of an attractive woman. At least he isn't as focused on being righteous as his assistant Oscar seems to be and he clearly says that his main target is Lupin. Interestingly he calls it a matter of blood. His and Lupin's family members seem to have gotten in contact previously. If anything all attributes these make me more intrigued about his character.

Fujiko's relationship with him and Oscar appeared to be the focus of this episode though in a much lesser degree compared to the first three episodes.

So Zenigata didn't get busy with Fujiko in the main canon. Since this is a prequel series there can be a number of explanations for that including such a substandard performance by the inspector this time around that Fujiko simply wasn't interested from this point on. As for Oscar, just because you're gay, it doesn't give you license to be an insulting twit even as a sterotype....

I'm also not used to this badass Zenigata. I'm used to the goofy guy who...well yeah he's usually just a lot more goofy/funny. This is a prequel so maybe he'll go through a character change later on. Like, Lupin's trickery finally drives him crazy or something. I hope so at least. Lupin also called Zenigata by his name instead of 'pops' so that's another thing. This series is more about Fujiko, but they have to go over this stuff at some point.

Anywayz this ep was ok. Except for that voice, Oscar is pretty damn funny. He makes up for the lack of Zenigata comedy relief. Sort of.

The problem here is not Zenigata getting laid with Fujiko, honestly Fujiko used her charm on Zenigata at least a dozen of times among all the mediums, with mixed but usually positive results; never actually getting in bed, but yeah it's not so impossible.
Nor is Zenigata having an unlikeable assistant (nothing unheard of in the manga too).

The irreconcilable problem for me is Zenigata trying to kill Lupin.
This is so wrong on so many levels I don't even know where to start.
Seriusly, what the hell?
Zenigata would never ever fanthom to fantasize to kill Lupin.
It goes against every form, style and concept I had of the character up to this day.

Even worse: for me the whole premise of any Lupin III series up to this day has always been the (humourous, ironical, nonsensical) duel of wits in a whimsical game of Cop and Robber, where Lupin and Zenigata involve every other character just because they are having too much fun trying to beat the other (Zenigata being obviously at the receiving end most of the time).
Should one of the two die, the end of their game would be fruitless and meaningless to both of them.

In a series with Fujiko as the main character I would have no qualms if the duels between Lupin and Zenigata were less relevant to the plot.
But it is an entirely different matter if the premise of the series is crushed.
Differences in style are acceptable and even laudable, but this goes against all my expectations.

And yet the part-prequel-sorta-continuity-reboot nature of this series gives hope that Zenigata could change his nature during this series to meet the usual premise at the last episode.
Or something...

Obviously this is a problem for fans of the old series and newcomers wouldn't care, still Mine Fujiko to iu Onna to this point has been carefully respectful of all the old series' thematics just to betray the most important one...

I'm hoping this has to do with what I vaguely pointed out in my post (Zenigata himself is different, the name thing) - Lupin and Zenigata are not as familiar with each other in this series as they are in all the other media. It's hard to tell how long they've known each other, Zenigata seems to imply that it's been a while because of their families, but that's not specific enough. Maybe we can expect some character development in this area?

Him shooting Lupin bothered me at first, but since it was turned into a silly trick I quickly got over it. I agree with what you're saying though.

Frankly, I'm not sure I like the direction this series is going in, and I certainly don't like the way Zenigata is portrayed. I know this is a more serious show, but they've taken away all of his pride, his sense of justice, his incorruptibility. At least Lupin is as awesome as ever.

She uses her charmes and sex appeal to manipulate and follow a hidden agenda. This basic character trait was completly absent this episode and she was basically a helpless sheep that got groped by anyone who pleases. So this is not about how others treat her, but how she reacts to this situations. Well that was just as badly written as the rest of this episode.

I didn't like this episode at all. The plot was predictable and poorly resolved and the way Mine Fujiko was presented really bothered me. Before this episode she seemed a strong woman who isn't afraid to embrace her sexuality in order to seduce and manipulate the men around her. In this episode all she did was nail the inspector to get out of prison, despite this still being pushed around and groped by him, getting groped by Lupin and insulted by Oscar, all the while being clueless about everything. It was such a tasteless portrayal that I think this episode alone might seriously hurt my overall score of the show.

Fujiko just doesn't make a good lead, she's better suited as a secondary character. Her past doesn't interest me like at all. Wish Lupin was the main character. While the series ain't bad, it feels like it's missing something that keeps it from being really good.

Another poster (Duckroll) in Neogaf said it best about the show:

Quote:
Episode 4 made me realize that there's a fundamental problem with the series which prevents me from enjoying it as much as I could, and generally lowers my opinion of each episode, even if something somewhat interesting happens. It is not just an issue of the material being dry, or the fact that it is "darker" or more "serious" than what Lupin generally is. Those things can be good, and making a different sort of Lupin series is a bold direction. But for me, the main problem here is that Fujiko is a bad lead.

Not Fujiko the character, but rather, the Fujiko that Sayo Yamamoto has created for herself in this series. She is a poor lead and creates a shadow over the scenario which makes it very hard for me to care much for the story or the events each week. The Fujiko as depicted in this series is a woman who has very little drive. She does not really seem to love anything, and she has no attachments or strong emotions for any particular task, hobby, or outlook. Yet somehow, the audience is expected to buy into the idea that she comes up with elaborate disguises and plans to go after certain things out of her own desire. There is a disconnect because that desire isn't really there.

Without the rationale and drive, her character comes off as a sock puppet whose only role is to be at certain places at certain times so the plot as scripted can be carried out. Some of this actually seems deliberate, in the sense that many of the other characters are developed with specific personal tastes, goals, and generally show more passion than Fujiko in their roles. But this just makes me wonder why the show is made this way. The lack of direct interest or passion of the main character makes the narrative a huge drag to watch at times, and the way each episode conclusions leaves more of a "meh" feeling than any sense of actual accomplishment.

Just one thing that doesn't quite sound right to me here.
At the beginning of the episode, Fujiko was in an interrogation room and the whole thing with portraying Ayan was the deal she had with Zenigata to be released.

-> So, we're supposed to buy that she had been caught ? Just like this ?
I watched Lupin a long time ago so I don't remember much but I thought that Fujiko was some kind of an thief expert Luppin's level.
I didn't expect her to be arrested just like that not to mention that it leads her to fool around with Zenigata to be released... WTH ?

Not to mention that in the end she slept with him for nothing, doesn't it ? Since she got caught in another deal 2 seconds later.

I first didn't understand why everyone here felt so disappointed with the episode but now that I think of it... Fujiko was a portrayed as a complete simpleton from the beginning to end.

LOL

I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh too much about it, and I DO know that everyone's tastes are different.

What I find funny here is that so many people here don't realize that this series is VERY VERY close to the spirit of the original Lupin mangas created by monkey punch. Funnily enough, that overt symbolism at the beginning using the male character symbol to give you an obvious idea of what is going on without making this series TOO much for television was used at a time or two in the original manga if I remember right and I've seen it used in at least one other monkey punch work (cant remember what it was though).

Nitre said:

New to many of the younger Lupin fans, perhaps. But Tot-san got his share of ladies in the original as well.

If any of you get the chance, look up the anime OVA "alice". This will give you a better feel more towards what the original Lupin was like. There was a subbed version floating around once, probably still is. I'll leave it up to you resourceful people to figure out how to get hold of that.

When they finally made the animes, the movies and the OVAs, they kind of dulled the content to keep it from feeling too adult and turning off what was a much more conservative Japan at the time of it's original release. THATS the lupin most are familiar with, and in a way I can see why this would catch some off guard, but no one can say that this ISN'T the true Lupin, because in it's way, it's a much truer Lupin than in any anime we have seen before.

I still think this series is amazing. Great visuals and music, imho, and Im STILL finding myself sitting through the opening 4 eps in. The presentation is very attractive, and Im looking forward to seeing more of Lupin himself upcoming, though I know this series focuses mostly on our leading lady here.

This new show takes itself way too seriously and isn't drawn in a cartoony enough way to really be like a Monkey Punch manga. Not to mention it tries so hard to be 'elegant' when MP's style is just really messy and crazy. Alice is a great example of "Monkey Punch style", I'd love to see a modern show with that type of comedy, pacing and artwork (yeah there's Mankatsu, but usually it wasn't as super-wacky art-wise).
