Anyone else get an Akira vibe from this episode?

We've got young ruffians, one wearing a red jacket and riding a bike, even that big truck-carrying lift appears in Akira! Nice aesthetic references if so, from Katsuhiro Otomo. Although from my own research of Akira and the director (for a uni dissertation) the only anime I know (off the top of my head right now) that he's explicitly said he was inspired by was Tetsujin 28.

I don't know, maybe red jackets & bikes were just popular in the late '80's. I've been anxiously waiting for the chance to see this series, if only to see what happens to Kamille after that traumatizing ending. Ep 1 was basically a recap so this ep 1 for me.

So they didn't manage to kill Yazan in the last episode of Zeta....
The start of this series was quite good, I'm really interested in the plot development. Kamille is creepy~

And here we go again!

That was a pretty decent "first" ep. Glad to see Bright back as usual!

Why the hell is Char in the OP when he's not even in the show? LOL! Well at least we get to see him in some sort of form.

Kamille is a retarded space prophet now.

I'm not sure where this is going. At best, the Argama will be on the run with a bunch of inexperienced kids piloting, a tired remake of White Base from the original series. I see hints of episodic wacky hijinks though, which would be infinitely worse.

Zeta Gundam dangling from the roof, with it's head stuck in a hole? Yeah... no thanks

No Char?
No Amuro?

Nice episode! It had some nonsense moments such as the guy eating oranges while everyone was worried about Yazan's attack. But as I heard that this series' beggining was full of annoying moments, I think it's ok.

Oh, and watching Kamille that way made me very sad ):

ps: Sorry for my bad english.

Eugh, Kamille. I was afraid he didn't survive from Zeta (he's lucky nothing happened when he was out of his mind :S). I guess it's good news he lived, but I wonder what kind of condition he's in now. I hope he can recover (soon). I much preferred him to these Capsule gangsters.

Yes. Quite a lot. I wonder what Tetsujin 28 is? Let's check the wiki page -- Oh! It's that Gigantor show I watched when I was little. That isn't Akira at all, lol.

Yazan is still alive? I thought he died? Nice to see him again though.

I see a Bright slap planned for Judau in the near future seeing as how reckless he was in battle and how he wants to sell the Gundam for money. xD

It's kind of amusing, although how dare Judau push Bright around like that?
Simply unacceptable.

Also, my mind is blown because Judau is voiced by Franky's (One Piece) voice actor.
I really couldn't tell! His voice is very specific sounding nowadays but he sounds "normal" here.

This. Bright's incompetence against some kid was the only issue I had.

Ok now we are on the actual ep 1

Lot of good parts here, Yazans survival, Kamile and Juadaus little newtype moments, they would be great parts if you know last episode's preview(s?) didn't spoil them all.

I disagree about Bright being incompetent, that little snowspeeder trick was pretty cool

Good episode!

Damn Yazan is still alive!! Even though i hated him in Zeta, and was starting to like him when he help those kids at first, but he still a heartless bastard.

Glad Fa is okay, feel sorry for Bright, getting kicked like that!.

Not bad Judau. It seems touching Kamille's hand is awakening his Newtype powers?!

Man Kamille is a mess. Guess his mental state is now broken?! I hope he recovers from this! Damn you Paptimus!!!!

And yeah i did get an Akira vibe on this. Just because the Shangri-La town is in poverty and everyone's is working as a looter. Even Judau drove a bike that's similar from Kaneda's bike.

Good start, little campy at first, but i don't mind. can't wait for the next episode!

Pretty good start! Incompatible with the way people write angrily about it.

The hero switch promises more than the previous one (even if Camille turned out to be interesting): Judau is a sympathetic slumber boy who can barely handle a MS (probably thanks to his mobile worker experience) instead of a suburb teenager left alone by his engineer parents. He also has a better reason to steal it than Camille. Overall: better first impression.

The way it directly follows Zeta helps to have a smoother experience. (I made the mistake to watch 0083 and Zeta after 0079 with no break and the transitions were'nt good). I am already hooked because I want to see Zeta's multi-parties conflict resolved now that it was lowered to a more traditional war. I can't wait to see how the mess that must be the Federation right now is going to fight the Axis Zeon (and free the little Mineva). After all, we already saw a Zeon ship. Also wondering what Char will do now that he's again disappeared from the battlefield. And I can't wait for the classic Earth period to see Hayato regret his parental decision and Amuro.

Also, Bright was as good as ever in this episode. Him piloting this worker makes up for the way slum kid trampled him and kicked his face. The poor man won't see his family soon, it seems. (I hope he will finally be recognized with promotions after all his contributions)
ions)

Despite the very bad way Zeta progressed, I am also attached to his heros after all and Camille and Fa's presences made me happy. Seems like Judau and Camille meeting awakened the new one's NT potential. I suppose he will be granted abilities faster than Camille was and those powers will be even stronger. I don't mind.

- : the comedic bgm during the chase.
3.5/5

@CodeBlazeFate Good, isn't it? He will finally (almost) get what he rightly deserved. ^^

Nothing to say about Camille and/or Judau, the physical humour etc?

@SakurasouBusters Almost no awkward dialogue, less pointless skirmishes: it has a few upgrades compared to Zeta. Of course, there are some downsides too, happy discovery.
(But a 10/10 given to Zeta warrants at least a 6/10 for ZZ.)

Half joking, but I hope you will be able to relate to the legendary SSJ, anti-war messiah and pinnacle of human evolution that this little slum kid is too. ^^

I agree, Judau starts out as a sympathetic character with motivations, which are two things Kamille lacked early on.

I think his was a lot of fun, the new kids were interesting, though Beecha kind of earns his name. I liked that we continue directly on from Zeta which lets us see the next steps for the few remaining characters. I'm excited to see what's up with Amuro and Char and was stoked to see Fa and Bright.

Also Shita and Quim with a gun! Tiny kids with huge guns is something you'd never see in a western cartoon! The first time that I can remember those characters have been awesome!

Very amusing, and finally someone who doesn't let himself be slapped around by that insufferable fool Bright. There was a moment I thought he was going to slap the children in the face for daring to interrupt him with important news.

Fair enough, im pretty easy to please, and so far im liking the characters in ZZ far more than i liked the Zeta characters(at least at the start) so so far it has that in its favor.

Thus begins the fall of Yazan the violator...

Also, you mean to tell me it took two fucking years for the Argama to find a single goddamn colony, let alone one with a hospital? Tuck off! At least the comedy in this episode is pretty funny at times, albeit ridiculous. Also, man this music is such a downgrade from Zeta's, and this continues into next episode too. Can't believe this was the same composer. Hell, evejnthe aet is inferior to basically any episode of Zeta.

Yazan & Bright got owned by an inexperienced kid... granted Bright wasn’t trying to hurt him and Yazan is a bad guy so he isn’t wining in this new show nonetheless after seeing how capable he was in the previous Gundam I was a little disappointed seeing him in a Jerid (awful villains) type of role…

The way this starts off with these dumb kids finding Yazan''s escape pod is pretty great. A lot of this episode was great in a weird way. Already know that a lot of people have problems that this starts off with such a comedic tone, but considering what we just went through with the first half of Z, this is really fitting. A calm before the storm perhaps.

So, Yazan survived.

Judau seems kinda goofy, but can figure out a suit nearly as fast as Amuro and Kamille did. Also, despite the fact that Kamille was unresponsive, he turned and looked at Judau, which created some temporary Newtype link. Will Judau be the key to returning Kamille back to normal?

I expected to like the tone of this installment and the "real" first episode didn't disappoing in that regard.

I'm also fond of Judau, he appears to be a character you can get behind and symphatize with.

@Rei366 sure, but he was a bit too nerdy and I hope Judau will turn out to be character I can relate to more on a personal level.

as thiis is the first ep first everyone should know that guy escaped his MS when it was exploding and his pod was just drifting so makes sense he's still alive

but man is it funny seeing Kamille in the state hes in honestly im glad the movies changed what happened to him in the end cause this is just plain stupid but regardless since i also watched the tv version where we got the Kamille loses his mind this is why zz is even a thing so i will watch and see where things goes

also fFa already getting way more screen time though i wonder how much that will last

Shangri-La is a ridiculous name for such a dirty colony, especially if you know the meaning. Anybody else remembering a certain song from Utena?

Judau also seems to be the youngest Gundam protagonist to date.

Fa is now "AEUG woman" lmao okay

Fine first episode, actually. Judau performed the obligatory gundamjack a little bit effortlessly, and the part with throwing oranges and cabbage was silly, but I expected it to be worse judging by what people are saying about ZZ.
