It's definitely suspicious that Sumi's murder and the time frame is connected with her father's company.

Like seriously, what are the odds...this case just gets deeper into the rabbit hole. Either way, this episode's mystery gets juicer with the origins of the company and Sumi's father. If anything, this may be one of the most complex cases this franchise yet. Killer to be revealed soon!

I felt it's going into rather lame direction. Glad Kotoko just blew it all up. Can't wait to see what's her plan.

The Sleeping Murder, Part 3.

There is a way to solve President Otonashi's murder of his wife Sumi, it's just that because of the ruse of the children all having alibis to prove that they were related to the murder, that this case only gets complex. Kotoko has placed hints all around the case for the children to get to a probable solution, which Rion is the highest possibility to achieve that objectve.

Learning that Sumi's drive to the group's expansion and wealth coming off from her father Denjiro, with the way that things would've run, she would be his living puppet all the while. But thanks to the murder, she doesn't need to bother herself with the trivialities of inheritance, leaving the case to have loopholes enough for all of the alibi, murder plans to take hold of the situation, thereby leaving the most minute detail out, that only Rion could solve.

The solution? Self-suicide from too much success, and not wanting to disobey Denjiro's orders. Contemplating suicide is a good alternative, but the execution is just as important so as not to link it to tarnish the group's reputation, and to that effect, self-suicide would erase any form of suspicion when everyone has an alibi and getting the police involved into a gruelsome issue. With this answer, it's plausible, but in regards to the inheritance, it's a doozy to split to them all, so it's in accordance to how President Otonashi would suit it.

The day of the reveal, and while the answer is correct, the murder plans were mere coincidence in the midst of his own sinful deed. The price to pay for murder: his health and short time to live. But...this is by no means the EXACT end of the case, as Kotoko once again emphasizes their claim that Sumi's murder was an accident...which was NOT the case. By piecing together all of the evidence together, this was clearly a case of murder, and who it is, we'll know in the next episode.

A very complex case this is one, and thoroughly just as well constructed.

Kotoko always knows how to drop something wild in the room. She let this whole thing go on until everyone thought it was over just to flip the script and reveal more later. This episode did a nice job wrapping things up, until the twist end, with Rion thinking of the most logical way for her grandmother to die given the information they have. How she committed suicide after realizing all her actions had nearly brought everything to ruin. Sumi just being a victim of her own father's meddling and control. How he laid out so many detailed and specific orders for Sumi to follow, how those orders lead to success up until a point. Clouded by that success it lead Sumi further down her doomed path until it was too late for her. She couldn't to back on decades of listening to her father so she thought suicide was the only way out. Its a nice confusing story to stand in for the truth that their grandfather made a contract with an ayakashi. Rion did what she was supposed to do making this believable but Kotoko had other plans.

Oh what a neat and clean resolution she led them to.... and then whipped the rug right out from under. Hahahaha.

If they'd just let it go through as it was it would have been a tepid but satisfactory solution to keep the spirit world out of it, but the Goddess of Wisdom don't play the easy game. She had a point that the old man was treating the whole thing like a martyr, satisfied with it all and salving his sins by taking on the blame for his children, not to mention he DID involve the spirits in the first place and that hasn't even been touched on yet. Lil foxy may not have done what he claimed, but there needs to be a lesson learned on that side too that getting involved in this kind of human nonsense is a no-no.

Looking forward to seeing what her final verdict is next episode.

It seemed like Kurou was exhausted from all the standing, he needed to lay down for a bit but Kotoko came in for help.

This was an interesting perspective from Rion's side, she did came with an good answer although it wasn't correct, looks like Sumi only followed orders from the dad and she needed to run the company by herself while the others were planning to end her, Rion thought it was suicide, but that is wrong, when the day came to give the answer to the grandfather, he said its correct and that he wanted to kill her in the first place before they got their chance to do it but Kotoko proved them all wrong, their faces were precious lol, even i was surprised by it.

Kotoko is about to reveal the real culprit in the next episode.

I loved the conclusion Rion drew from Kotoko's clues and her father's word, and it was okay to leave the family with that conclusion.

I don't understand why she needs to pass on the information now about the involvement of the (I assume) Fox Spirit that appears in the intro to the murder.

If the fox is involved because the president asked him to, what a need to tell the other members about the existence of spirits? And if on the other hand, it's something the spirit decided to do on its own to help the president, I also don't understand the need to tell everyone about the existence of spirits!!!

Kotoko does say that "If you had killed her with your own hands, I wouldn't have opened my mouth" plus the fact that, despite having done something wrong, he considered that he had done the right thing due to the success and the lucky case of having prevented his sons and daughter from murdering their mother but I don´t that enough to reavelead the involvement of the Spirit World in this case

I will have to wait and see how the murder was really accomplish

Aside from a cute moment with Kuro and Kotoko resting on the king-sized bed while talking about the case in question, this episode was pretty much fully focused on the case itself.

With the explanation from her father's side as well as paying attention to the clues Kotoko made during her talk previously, Rion did a good job with her answer to what happened to Sumi-san. It also opened up that Sumi herself was simply following orders that her own father laid out before he died, not only for the business, but also how many kids she would have and what roles they would take. Doing that would bring "happiness" to everyone, but obviously, it turned out to be the opposite.

While the answer was received as "correct" to Otonashi, Kotoko then chose this time to intervene with her opinion, which did leave Otonashi sweating profusely. This complex, but interesting case is getting one step closer towards its conclusion now. Not the best of this second season, but it has been an enjoyable one. =)

Indeed. Convoluted boring mess. They sit in this hotel room and talk, talk and talk about how they all wanted to kill their mother/wife for money and how it was right thing to do. Because, you know, it's money. The dude murdered his wife, reaped the benefits for 20 years, and now wants to give his kids a lesson about doing right thing. And his resolution is to die from cancer? FFS, what is wrong with this writer.

Not a single character in this latest arc is even a little bit sympathetic. Kotoko should have called the murderer a-hole and left, not discuss with this weird bunch the fine details of their a-holery.

Man I don't know why she always decides to flip the table right after everyone thought it's over. That's the fascinating side of Iwanaga Kotoko though, but sometimes I wish she do it at the beginning instead. Well, we are going to see how Kotoko will reveal the truth so it'll be another interesting ride.

Rion's deduction was interesting but I think one wouldn't die so easily if they stab themself in the chest. In that angle one would most likely end up with a serious wound. That angle wouldn't help you give the right amount of force that will result in your death. You would probably need to stab yourself multiple times to do that. Also, when under mental pressure, I don't think one would be in that state of mind to devise such a lengthy plan just to kill themself. They'll either step in front of a moving car, hang or self-poison themselves. So, Kotoko seems more logical that an intentional accident would make more sense.

I'm excited to know what conclusion Kotoko has come up with.

Anyway, Kuro standing beside Kotoko like that has been bothering me a lot. he's been standing there for hours like a bodyguard, it's kinda odd considering how Kotoko introduced him as her boyfriend.

Would've been boring anyways if they accepted that suicide theory, and also things seem awfully convenient as per the standards of this series. So great, Kotoko threw everything down in the water and will come up with a conclusion down from the zero again.

It's fairly obvious Kaoruko was the killer. The fact she didn't even show up for the discourse surrounding the case already made her the primary suspect, and she has the most significant motive for murdering Sumi as well: avoiding an arranged marriage and getting with her lover.

This old fuck shamelessly trying to cover for them because he knows he'll die from his rapidly progressing cancer anyway is just too much of a red herring to be the real suspect.
