| THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE. ---------------------------------------- About 42 minutes but I think this was pretty interesting. The Dragon Country just seemed like a really interesting place. Plus, we got the character chemistry between Nonoko and Bell that was charming to watch. I like the creativity of the action scenes for most part especially towards the second half of the episode. Music is surprisingly good too. |

| Thank god I decided to watch this, because this was really good I like how they managed to introduce the world, explain the dragons, explain what Dragon Destists are and their roles + how they're created and I love the whole thing with the Mushi (Mushishi vibes right there almost) The characters were pretty impressionable and ended up growing fond with them all and enjoying their interactions and time with one another but when shit got real, the suspense was killing me I did not expect this series to be so intense, brutal and just plain tragic.....The whole concept of these Dentist being shown their deaths and then having the resolve to not only hide it but to accept it is amazingly depressing and I dunno if I could possibly do the same if I were in that position Its for this reason as to why I totally got the betrayal scene.....All in all, this was truly a hidden gem and I can't wait to see what happens next after that ending with the tooth falling and then the sighting of "those" people Great episode overall and I'm really digging the visuals and action scenes for this series |
| Fuck that was good. It felt super fresh. The setting did it mostly for me. I wanted to know more. And there was enough action surrounding it that even fucking dentisty can be cool as shit. Thank you anime. Also, hey what do you know FLCL director be doing stuff. Its so goood~~ |
| Really strong NGE vibes with how mushi look. Pretty interesting thing to watch but might be a bit too short for that kind of convoluted story. Music was pretty poor and badly matching as well. Still pretty refreshing thing with drought of watchable titles. |

| Well, this took me by surprise. Pretty good, I must admit. The mushi instantly reminded me of mushishi haha. Also, the setting and plot seem fresh and interesting, but sadly it's gonna be only 2 episodes. |
| Damn that was so good. It's been a while since I have seen a good original anime. It's just adaptations of adaptations these days, I hope we get more stuff like this in the future. Also is it just me or did anyone else get this Nausicaä-vibe while watching? |
| Khara is amazing, not a dull moment in this first episode presenting good characters, visuals and animation in a fresh world. Great CGI and a lovely calm mood set by the backgrounds and colour alternated with high energy action scenes. They're not missing Sadamoto or Yoshinari on this it seems? As for the Nausicaä vibe; I didn't feel it specifically - but it's got a feel of serenity that is Ghibli alike which hasn't been presented in any Gainax anime since Nadia imo. The scene where Nonoko climbs up the dragon in the beginning made me think of Nono in DieBuster episode 1, dragging through the snow and riding a train. I love the patience in directing these guys always show while the pace is pretty fast. Just really glad to finally get a Khara anime that isn't Shin Gekijouban Eva. It's almost a shame it will be but 2 episodes long - but maybe we'll get more of the Nihon animator mihonichi shorts treated this way, big maybe. KHARA'S SAVING ANIME!!!!!!!!! [/triggerweeb] (Sorry. | The dragon tooth scenes are the greatest. The artstyle of the monsters is unique. Nonoko and especially Bell already got some good characterization. So you can't escape fate either way, you either get sucked into the dragon's teeth or you can experience one more run as a dragon dentist and then your time has come. I don't see it ending on a happy note to be honest. |

| They made dragons out be so powerful and majestic yet they have giant swords in their mouths and controlled by humans, awful power structure. Nice moments of cleaning dragon teeth and the mushi that cause it. Hope Bell makes Nonoko escapes death, dying by that edgy soldier is a horrible way to die. |

| Dang I did not expect to enjoy this as much as I did! It was a really interesting concept, and I'm intrigued by those shape shifting weapons that they use. Also I'm thinking it's almost Nonoka's time, considering what we've seen so far. |

| This was seriously awesome, totally did not expect it to be this good. The flow of the narrative and the visual quality are stunning. The world building was great and really fresh, the concept and profession of Dragon Dentists and cavities were explained neatly. They left the truth behind the dragons and the reincarnation in the dark, wonder if it'll be explained next week. The battle scenes against the cavities were awesome, loved all of them. After the initial navy battle scene, the show seemed to take a real slow and relaxing pace explaining above phenomena. I loved the montage with Nonoko showing Bell the ropes along with the insert song. However, what I really loved was how the show gradually revealed it's tragic and more depressive undertones, gave me a real Shinsekai Yori vibe. Of course the war was present from the beginning but it wasn't really the focus. The philosophical thematic of life, death and fate was presented wonderfully through the test, lives and fate of the Dragon Dentists. Honestly, I don't think I'd be able to become a Dragon Dentist at all. I'd probably reject my fate if it was shown to me like that, since I'm sure anyone would want to forge their own destiny (At least I do XD). When you think about that, Godou calling the people who failed and Bell 'Brave' actually makes sense. Though at the same time, Dragon Dentists can also be characterized as 'Brave', since they had the strength to accept their fate and make the most out of their 'Time'. I totally did not see the betrayal coming but I can understand Shiba's motives as to why she did it. In fact, I'm more surprised they didn't have more betrayal cases in the past. It's not easy living knowing that your life is gonna end at this point. In a way, the Dragon Dentists deserve respect for being able to that. Really looking forward to the next episode now, I hope Nonoko survives. :( @Tokoya Thanks a bunch for telling me, I actually noticed this series yesterday but decided to pass on it. | The concept was quite good. It's pretty novel seeing that their main focus is on cleaning the teeth of mystical creatures from weird black stuff that oozes out from them. Still, it makes you wonder just what the deal is with the teeth absorbing the dead and spitting out black monsters all the time. And I didn't quite get the reasoning for the group of soldiers that reside on the dragon, so they weren't created like the Dragon Dentists, but were actually posted there from other parts of the world? How did they even manage to get onto the dragon in the first place? Also that deal with the traitorous nee-san. I get that she has a similar outlook as the blonde kid, but what was the point of destroying the tooth and turning into a monster anyway? Does it mean she's fighting against fate by adapting a secondary way to die which has nothing to do with what the "teeth" showed her when she became a Dragon Dentist? But I thought those who could become Dentists in the first place were suppose to have already accepted their fates (or else the tooth would've absorbed them instead of spat them back out...)... Seems like a lot still needs to be explained in the second episode. Plus I can totally see Nonoko meeting with her supposed "Killer" and having Blonde Boy intervening to change her fate. |

Just a little too much 3DCGI, but it looks fine enough to not lose time on it. 5/5 A potential score of 7~8 When the heck will this be on [insert random pirate site name]? International (free) TV broadcast had been announced on NHK World before the japanese broadcast... It will air in March if some people here wish to watch it on a better screen (and legally). How can people be this impatient anyway... (or stupidly lazy like me, since I lack the courage to unearth and plug my terminal) @Coddlington Sorry because it was unclear in this message but the 5points mark refers to the thread poll (since the words linked to it are "hate/dislike/OK/like/love", I always assumed that it was asking me only my satisfaction/enjoyment of the episode as a viewer). The following mark (out of ten) is nothing more than a game: I tried to estimate the overall score I will give to the full animation once it's completed. And I always imagined that this "score" exists to reflect the "value" of the work (not sure if this is the right word), partially depending on its (apparent) objective(s). This can lead to a series made of episodes I disliked earning a 5-7 or the opposite (a 4 to something I liked, because it was "badly done" for example) This 5/5 means that at the end of this Special, I was very happy I watched it(ìt makes it pretty irrelevant for someone else, I guess). A 10/10 would mean that it was outstandingly made, that it fulfilled its role and even went beyond.(arf, I'm certainly not making any sense, it's hard to express it in french and worse in english) |

| So it's another "Naval-related" Anime at first. And the "Dragon" words, I thought it's just for literally. But then, when comes the Tengumushi, the real action starts. That out-of-body as the Near Death Experience surely creepy even when the one that experienced it looks already give up with it. But why... The wise Shibana, I believe in you. :( |

| This was a very great introductory episode. It has a ridiculous concept. Nonetheless, it was still fairly interesting and managed to catch my attention for the whole span of the episode and was executed perfectly all throughout. It managed to build its world in a short time without feeling rushed while also trying to develop its plot. The opening scene showed us just how powerful the dragons truly are but it also makes you wonder just how the fuck did those soldiers manage to station a base on top of the dragon and seemingly controlling its actions? I get the Dragon Dentist's part since they'e the ones who protect the Dragon's only weakness which is its teeth but I find it hard to believe that the dragon would just let those soldiers who don't even look relevant at all and are just random boarders manipulate it for war. I like the themes presented in the narrative. To witness your own death and think that you'd just blindly accept your fate, keep quiet about it and work for the rest of your life is indeed a very mind-breaking issue. I can understand Shibana's change of heart and her opposing opinions towards tradition. That said, I also enjoyed Nonoka's philosophy when asked by Bell about not being afraid to die. Does being truly alive mean living longer? It's a great contrast towards Bell's stance on the unjust ways of the Dragon Dentist's life because while it is indeed horrific to just wait for your time, Nonoka does not really care about it because to her, now is the time to be alive. She can't be bothered to go paranoid over those matters because as long as she can eat good food then it's enough for her. Of course, not everything is what they appear to be since this is just the first episode. I might be wrong about Nonoka after I watch the continuation. The animation is beautiful and the art is just gorgeous. The massive scale of the dragon and how puny the humans in comparison was truly a wonder to see. The color palette fits perfectly though the mushis' CGI designs didn't really accentuate the art and felt out of place. |

| I wasn't sure about it, especially that the reason that made me watch it is seeing the final scenes on TV. It was English dubbed and I'm not a fan of dubbing. I can't feel it. This was awesome. i didn't expect to be this awesome. Watching anime in Japanese does make a difference for me. |

| I'm glad this got made into a series after seeing the "Nihon Animator Mihonichi" episode that featured Nonoko being chosen. Definitely over the top but not in a bad way. I'm wondering why Nonoko was near a smaller version of the Dragon she was taking care of in her supposed final moments. The whole transformation scene with Shibana felt a bit out of place but then again, we have all sorts of "mushi" attacking the Dragon's teeth. ^^ |

| Not bad. Certainly a unique premise, and the animation is pretty well done, too. I especially like the quality of the background art, it's got a lot more detail than you typically see in anime nowadays. The Japan Animator Expo short was fun, but this builds upon it in a lot of much more interesting ways. Well, on to episode 2 now. |

| Damn this was pretty intense, in both story, setting and character development! Really liked it to be honest and really did not expect that ending. I do really wonder what the second episode will offer though! Those creatures sure reminded me a lot of the actual Mushishi creatures. |

| the mix of 2D and 3D sakuga is very good on this one and the story is interesting too Shibana does not want to live as a Dragon Dentist anymore to her there is no meaning to a life that is just waiting for your death aka whats the point of living if we are gonna die anyway? lol  |
