Holy shit its hilarious to think they rely on Itami even I am relieved when the bastard shows up. They simplified his character so when something grand happens he shines to brightly.

Behold of my awesomeness~

So that's it? That's where it leaves off? Seems like it's open for a second season.

a lot of people are saying this was boring but honestly i loved seeing the culture clashes especially since there was such a substantial gap in technological advancement between japan and pinas empire. speaking of which pina was a really interesting character and i liked her slightly more than three main girls. my second favorite would probably be lelei and third would be tuka. i cant wait to see if they resolve tukas dead daddy issues. this was the one show i looked forward to the most every single week 10/10 cant wait till winter

I agree with this comment! I've read that some people were rather bored with the anime but there was something about that made it actually interesting. Maybe the clash of different cultures between the characters? It was pretty cool to see modern technology meet dungeons and dragons.

Thank god it's split cour, this is the best A-1 has done this year and the episode didn't have a 1 cour style ending to it.

This, basically.

I was going for a 9 for the show till ep10... sadly these last episodes didnt felt as exciting, I still love the series and probably enjoyment solely this is one of those I can rate it a 9, yet overall the finale didnt lived up as to what a finale should be.

8.4/10 - 8

+ Great visuals, decent ost;
+ Highly enjoyable cast, along with best girl;
+ Interesting setting and well executed, but;
- Conclusion felt extremely lacking;
- While the plot had some good moments, it could have been even better.

I dont mind it much since I can go see S2 right away but if this show did not have S2, this would be an extremely annoying, "go read source material or manga" asspull.

Nationalism, at it's finest.

Japan, the never-do-wrong nation with it's cutting edge, military strong leading forces.

A good anime, if you can ignore the ridiculous amount of Japan-Is-The-Best bullshit.
"The speck of fear grows in your eyes
You'll meet your death in no disguise
It may come as a small surprise
There will be no compromise for you"

Nice cliffhanger for the next season. I hope to see more Itami in action and becoming a hero over and over again!

Even though the JSDF desire peace, the king of the Empire would probably disagree with that. So, there will potentially be more awesome war! Heavy violence is preferable.

Man, this series was disappointing. It had some good moments but was mostly extremely mediocre to terrible. It's too bad, because it had a lot of promise and all it ended up being was a super shit anime Stargate.

@Gunnerblaster Well, it makes sense in that other world at least.

Now, I wonder if they entered that world as the Japanese Empire of WW2. That would have been a different story.

Anyway, I'm glad I'm watching it now as a complete anime, because that was a rather weak ending for season 1. Nonetheless, I enjoyed the rest of the anime so its still an 8/10.

This is pretty damn entertaining so far. I don't get the feeling that it's trying to take itself super seriously, what with its own humor and the spectacle of it all. I mean the dude joined the military to feed his otaku hobbies....so I am really confused as to how this could offend anyone. The absurdities mix well with the intriguing concept and setting.

Pina Co Lada best girl.

this is such a weird anime yet cant stop from yearning for more because of its bizzare concept.....
And lol people of a certain country being triggered over JSDF shown in the limelight while like there's not an usual bunch of vanity military films glorifying a certain army which comes out of hollywood every year right ? lmao

This show is ok. I'm feeling generous so I'm giving it a 6/10. But a 5/10 would be just as appropriate.

The Tokyo arc was kind of worthless. And in episodes 11 and 12, was the timeline not all over the place? Things did not seem to make any sense. Bizarre and confusing. Not something that is appealing for a show that's already kind of mediocre.

I generally like Itami, the several members of his military squad, and the girls from the gate world that are often hanging around him. And yet, somehow the show is kind of boring.

I'm going to give the second season a chance but I guess I don't really have high hopes.

Awww....that was a pretty weak episode to end a season on, even worse if it was a series finale.

But since there is more I can forgive it.

I think I enjoyed more than I had any business enjoying it.

The army is OP as hell. Where were they during the crusades?

I give this an 8/10.

technically this is episode is the last episode of the first season, the next episode being the start of season 2, so a quick rating of season 1.
Yeh, i definitely enjoyed watching this anime, was really interesting to see a militaristic anime and fantasy mix of an anime, definitely intrigued me a lot with how certain things like negotiations and certain tactics were used especially in such a different world.

Story was a 8/10, really liked some of the characters and seeing them interact with one another, Itami was a good mc, i enjoyed seeing how progress through the new world and his interaction with Rory is quality.

Visuals, 7/10. For a anime made in 2015, the animation and quality is pretty good. The creative freedom of the magical genre was definitely used well here, design of certain characters made them very unique like elves or the Gothic maid costume Rory wears along with her killer fucking axe design. Personally, i don't know a whole lot when it comes to military culture, fire arms, vehicles and tactics, but find it very fascinating, but i thought they did very well on the high quality design of some of the vehicles and weaponry.

SFX i'd give a 7/10, things like gunfire or mortar barrages definitely sounded like they packed a punch, as well as vehicles traversing land or a jet flying over head.

Characters, 8/10. Really enjoyed the characters that were shown in this anime, Itami's squad is definitely a group a could follow with in this anime if they focused on them more, Rory was an absolute joy to watch in his anime as well.

Enjoyment is like a, 8/10. Definitely had it's parts were i couldn't wait to see what happaned next, and really had me wanting more.

All in all, really nice anime, definitely has me hooked, can't wait to start the next season.

I am amused at the excessive focus on the universality of BL in this show.

Entertaining watch, but it got a little too info dumpy by the end to be honest.
I'm not a lolicon, you're just projecting your tendency to lewd 2D characters.

If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

That was a fun way to end for now. Seeing that Yao's situation could really affect significantly the current relationship between Japan and the Empire Itami and co.'s gonna need to do some ninja level shit. Or go the diplomatic way and somehow get permission to go beyond the border.

Not much Rory for a last episode, but at least we get to see Lelei mastering Magic with Chemistry.

If you take it too literally and point out all the logical flaws, you won't enjoy this. It's pretty good for what it is, a non stop entertaining exploration of a new land and it's cultures, mixed with an ongoing war and the tension it brings. Really great juxtaposition with the fantastical elements and the Japan Defense Force. 8/10.

That's it? Two episodes of a newly introduced dark elf character who isn't overly relevant to the main plot going on a wild goose chase for a guy she essentially told to get bent? Can't say that's the best way to end the season.

Yao apparently lost her family and fiance as well and now entrusted by the elders to save her clan since shes the most reliable of all of them. i like how she kicked every man in the nuts who tried to take advantage of her.
Jokes aside after some translation problems she finally gets to convey her problems through leilei but sdf chief reject her pleaa with their hands tied up due to foreign and political affairs.
meanwhile itami meets up with pina whos bl addiction has grown way more strong and she even lets her platoon ladies translate it for her xD But shes doing stuff behind the scenes to setup for the meeting with empire and the army has also setup certain members in ranks disguised as butlers for info.

Everyone thinking of what itami would do (him being the oddball) in order to help yao with the dragon and i actually feel bad seeing her helpless after losing everything. Anyways episode ends up with mari conveying the childrens message to itami for saving them, putting him in the seat for the savior of this world also setting him up for the future plot scenario with the empire and yaos red dragon problem.

Decent way to end the season off in a open manner. on to season 2 lets see if it gets better
