Cenco is similar to Canti in that they both transform and absorb the protagonists. One could argue that they also acquire strength from the protagonists. Moreover, the animation style is similar in both, featuring jerky yet detailed movements.

Watching both you don't really know what's going on, Both have extraordinary art style, Both leave you wanting more after watching, Both have some kind of supernatural setting

We have children who interact with and use alien life forms for fighting; both are somewhat abstract and experimental.

While Cencoroll is the wierder of the two shows, they are both single episode sci-fi anime that are the work of one man. In the case of Cencoroll, that man is Uki Atsuya.

Both feature characters who are able to control/turn into weird looking monsters and a curious girl willing to become a co-pilot of said monster.

Somewhat similar art, out of the ordinary plot, both main characters are named Yuki, has to do with "aliens"

Basically, the main characters can control mecha-like entities and make them fight one another (thus creating a lot of turmoil) but at some point they change their masters. The creatures are to be kept in secret, though in the process more people learn about them.

Both have teenagers with mysterious creatures that have strange powers, while occasionally sharing a similar feel. Narutaru might be more satisfying, though, since it's a full length series.

These both fall under what I would describe as 'passion projects'. The animation/artstyle can be a bit rough around the edges, but also has some pretty cool aspects if you can look past that. Both of them star a boy, a girl, and some sort of kinda freaky monster/robot companion, and the big plot of each is that the main character(s) take on another, antagonistic boy with another monster/robot (leading up to a cool fight scene climax). The character archetypes are kinda similar between the two in general, except the genders are swapped on the mains. Both also have some big-name artists for the ED (Eve  read more

Both of these movies have a very similar "vibe". Honestly, as soon as I started watching both of these movies the first things I noticed were the unique atmosphere and similar art design. Both of these shows imho have a very similar feel throughout, have a very similar soundtrack, characters and even the storylines have the same sort of sci-fi feel. Cencoroll being only 25 minutes, doesn't have the same rememberability about it, but if you like "the girl who leapt through time" then you will most likely love this hidden gem as well. (And vice versa) The main characters are also very similar. Both female  read more

Both have quirky creatures which interact with the female lead. They also share a pretty similar art style.

Both are short stories which take you to a world you don't know very much about but there is some "other" that the main protagonist is up against. Also, you may not know exactly who the protagonist is until towards the end. Both end in a little bit of a twist, Wasurenagumo more than Cencoroll, and while Cencoroll will definitely leave you wanting more, after watching Wasurenagumo you may want to take a break. And think. Two wonderful and creative shorts (about half an hour) - I highly recommend both and to keep an eye on future productions from these directors and artists.

Eve's music videos often contain many strange creatures that inherit strange abilities, holding a metaphorical purpose in order to explain psychological states of the characters that interact with them. Cencoroll almost uses this same formula, instead prioritizing the evolving narrative more heavily in comparison while using these creatures to give the characters extra emotional depth as they progress through the story. Eve's music videos would likely also take this form if they were longer and had more time for plot development.

You have no Idea what's going on. The not knowing part makes watching this a bit hectic... for good reasons, you'll have a bit more than 2 hours/20 minutes of just the mindfuck :)

Similar creatures and fantasy/school setting

- Thrown right into the middle of the story - Similar art style, understated and with reasonable eye to face ratios - Lively animation, lots of effort put into the background - Teenagers being teenagers - Natural sounding voice acting - Made either independently or by small studios - Simple and clean sounding accompanying music scores

Both anime are short shows about meeting a mysterious creature and having adventures with it. Both have unusual sci-fi vibe.

The picturesque artwork is reminiscent of Natsu no Sora.

Both are "movies" made by one individual. Of the two though, CENCOROLL is by far the better show.

Cencoroll and Dennou Coil are quite particular. While Cencoroll evolves around "real" weird beings, Dennou Coil has "virtual-but-somehow-real" weird beings. Definitely original interesting stories are another shared part of both anime. Still, the two share the same sci-fi genre. Also, somehow i have the feeling that designs can be considered a little similar as well, especially when it comes to the weird creatures around both worlds. I highly suggest to watch both, since i think a perfect word to describe them is: interesting.

These anime's feature obscure character's who's 'origin' isn't quite explinied in simplistic terms. We also have a fairly similar leading male - a pleasant enough, but quite and slighly moody teen boy with a relivant 'hair antena'. Neither of these anime incorporate characters that aren't too importiant. The art is highly similar - very comic strip looking character design; not highly detailed within shading and proportions, but appropriot for the overall, trippy setting. The scenery is very similar too - not too detailed, bright and misty aswell city setting.

People trying to live with another strange creature with transforming like characteristics and having them battle with their own kind, though the overall tone is drastically different. You can consider the end of Cencoroll as a reference to Parasyte.

Both of them are one-episode anime that have everyday school life in one scene and action, supernatural in the other. The art is somehow similar too.

While having almost nothing to do with each other in terms of plot, both have very similar protaganists that look alike and have considerably apathetic personalities. The animation in both are also notably well done, albeit in rather different ways; Hyouka has a more lush and extravagantally moe atmosphere, while Cencoroll has a simpler feel to it until the action kicks in.
