While Cencoroll is the wierder of the two shows, they are both single episode sci-fi anime that are the work of one man.
In the case of Cencoroll, that man is Uki Atsuya.
If you want to see OVAs that were (mostly) made by 1 person, that have Sci-Fi elements and star a male and a female character, then either one of these might catch your interest.
"Hoshi no Koe/Voices of a Distant Star" is a Makoto Shinkai project and is much more of a romance and drama. It mostly focuses on two peoples connection, even though they are both lightyears away from each other. It has quite a bit of CG and mech action in it.
