I am only started Bokuben and Senryuu shoujo and probably won't touch on other shows until I am absolutely certain I want to watch them. I will eventually pick up Furuba too! There's a lot of praise in the air for Carole & Tuesday right now but I am not sure I want to pick it up.
Ah, if I am right, you don't read the manga. But regardless of the manga, Kaguya anime would have been a 9/10 for me. I guess it's down to personal preference.
5-toubun also just animated up to the point where the manga was just about alright. It's the later arcs that skyrocketed its popularity particularly the seven goodbyes arc which shoot the quints' popularity all over the fandom to another level. It already sold over 3 million copies in tankoubun format for just 9 volumes. That's an incredible number for a harem romcom manga in today's market. That should also give you the idea that it may actually be good. But then again, you'll have to wait for a sequel to judge that.
I was hugely disappointed with Date A Live III. One of my preferred harems but I guess I cannot complain due to the studio change and all. I guess I will finish it soon nevertheless.
Regarding 3-gatsu, haven't you seen it already? Yeah, Hina shoot right there in my all time faves with her arc. It's impossible to not love her. Speaking of Chihayafuru, I am not sure you'll enjoy season 3 as much as season 1 and season 2. It will have more romance and drama in it than any other part of the story. Just giving you a heads up. :)
Sorry for the delayed response. I only had my phone with me in Korea and I am not a fast typist when it comes to phone so I held back and then I returned last week and didn't find the time to reply.
ttys.
On this site, we need middle ground where hater and fan can have a conversation with each other.
It one of that moment where I kinda vent and show my inner- SAO fanboyness.
I admit that the show have alot of flaws, but it at least enjoyable.
Coming back to other things, I like Natori for he holds the older brother role for Natsume. I am not up to date with the manga so I am not sure how far his character has evolved since the end of the anime. Speaking of Natori, I like Hiiragi a lot. In fact, she is one of my favourite recurring characters from the story.
As for next season, Chihaya and Shinobu aside, I am already stoked to see Bocchi, Nanako and Uruka. Given that Uruka will be voiced by Oono Akira's voice actress I am really looking forward to her voice for the first time (actually for the second time). I was already overjoyed when Shirogane Kei was talking from the other side of the phone! Bocchi on the other hand will see the debut of Morishita Chisaki. Nothing much to say about HanaKana as Nanako. All I know that her widely proclaimed "curse" of forever loser will be lifted (although I don't see it like that).
Also looking forward to Furuba (2019). And this time it will be a complete adaptation! I am ready to board the feels train all over again! Tooru Honda is one of the greatest wifus Japan has even created! I wonder how the new seiyuu would fare compared to the great Horie-san! Also, my boy Souma Kyou will have a rather new face compared to veteran Seki-san!
Secondly, I cannot wait to see the movie. It was one of the highest grossed movie of last year so I am pretty excited.
Just checked the seiyuu of Senryuu Shoujo. Top notch selection for all. Especially for Sayuri as Prez.
Fanboy mode: Nanako x Eiji forever. It's one of the stories where it makes me want to enter the screen and hug the characters after all. I think fans will love it given the simplicity of the story.
I am yet to see Sayonara Asa. Have plans to watch it very soon since I was super excited since the announcement sometime ago (proof#1 and proof#2, dunno how accurate I was of the latter, but that's what I felt after seeing the PV, of course, at that time, no translation was up and I just got the info from the official website. If I was close, good on me because it makes me a bit confident of my Japanese skills, which I will be able to verify once I see the movie). I plan to see it probably over the next weekend.
But I have to say I loved Liz to Aoi Tori. It was so beautiful. Every second of it carried a meaning one way or the other. Amazingly how the entire premise took place on the way to school, in the school and then ending on the way back from school. But of course, I know there will be very few who would be truly able to appreciate this amazing movie.
I don't want to venture into isekai genre. Enter the queue the upcoming Tate no Yuusha. Don't fall for the trick again I warn you. I read a good part of the manga which is exactly the same as the LN and it gets super retarded soon enough. Part of me want to see it because of Seto Asami voicing Raph (the only saving grace of the story, because Raph is adorable) but not enough to make me really want to watch through something I know that wouldn't be a cup of my tea.
I know there is an Isekai manga and I absolutely love it. There probably never be any adaptation of it but Asahi is love. Anyways, to cut it short, Isekai in general can hardly attract me. The last one I enjoyed was Re:Zero but then again, only the first half of it. It's almost the same for all of the adaptation thus far. The only one I actually enjoyed from start to finish was Log Horizon S1 but I didn't get around to see S2. I tried watching slime but then didn't find that all that alluring as well.
Dunno what to say about Bunny Senpai. It's like Monogatari x Oregairu (supernatural elements x sneering comments) but to be honest, it's not as good as fans are making it out to be. I like the characters though. But they way things are presented lacks the punch. Couldn't really feel for the characters like they wanted me to.
Speaking of seiyuus, where are the know-alls who ridiculed saying Kurosawa Tomoyo doesn't have a future after her performance as Kumiko? Well, she ended up getting the highest accolade for seiyuus in last year's awards. How can you not enjoy this! Looking forward to more of her in Chikai no Finale!
While rating an anime, the contemporary anime doesn't really impact my score. I usually give score on entertainment value and also, anime of the same genre from my past experience so I can't really relate to how you do that.
I actually watched HSG recently (only the first two eppys) and instantly fell in love with this!.
As for A1, you are looking at the wrong things from them. They are actually very good when they are not adapting battle shounen or isekai genre. The only Isekai one I liked from them is Grimgar. But they do have wonderful titles under their belt which are mostly romcoms like SaeKano, Working!!, Blend S, Servant x Service, and absolutely amazing ones like Gin no Saji, Uchuu Kyoudai, OoFuri and Ano Hana. Kaguya-sama is super adorable as a manga. Usually, I don't like tsundere characters. But Kaguya and Shirogane are just so adorable it makes me go nuts. Also, there was a recent survey in Tokyo University and Kyoto University, the two top academic institutions of Japan, and Kaguya-sama came on top as the manga read by most of the students of those two universities. I cannot see A1 or any studio screwing it up. I already liked the PV and the character designs. The voice casting could have been a bit different but I will get used to them soon enough.
I can assure you, you will love it. There aren't many stories out there with likeable lead characters who are witty and adorable and make you want to stay away from sweets for a while because how adorable they are. I mean we are in 133 chapters and the manga just keeps on getting better and better. I never looked back ever since chapter 45. Why wouldn't it be in my top 10 faves? I know chapter 45 will be adapted in this season and the anime score will skyrocket. It was the same chapter that changed the manga score from an ~8.1 to an ~8.5 in a week here in MAL. The manga is now rated at 8.67. The manga also got the first place in Kono Manga ranking last year, I think.
Btw, I am normally not into harem anime and avoid recommending others as well, but you might wanna give Gotoubun no Hanayome a shot.
Funny how people recom you saying if you like this, you will like that and then you question yourself whether that would really be true. I mean I kind of enjoyed Bokuben but it was and still is just an alright harem romcom and then I wondered whether I really needed to add gotoubun, with almost the same premise (student-tutor) in my list but I am so glad that I did. It's probably one of the, if not, the best harem story in years. The quints are extremely unpredictable, unique and very adorable. All of them. But I have my personal favourite ;). But the most important bit of Gotoubun is how likable Fuu is as an MC. He is not like those cut from the same cloth protagonists that girls would fall in love with without any apparent reason.
I actually started reading it when it was still in its infancy, and I was reluctant to read it after reading the premise because I am not into harems, and certainly not when knowing quints are likely to fight over a guy, I mean how stupid can it get. But I continued because how I liked the character designs, but then as I continued reading it I started to like the characters more and more. It's now one of the most eagerly anticipated weekly manga. It's also getting extremely popular in Japan if you follow the author's twitter acc. The seiyuu cast is fantastic as well.
If you want pure romance, look forward to Senryuu Shoujo in April though. You don't see romance in the tag? Don't worry. It's an all out romance and it's so blinding that you will need to wear sunglasses! I would date a girl like Nanako in a heartbeat! And I would marry a boy like Eiji in a heartbeat! I love it so much that I am reading it in Japanese right now and up to date with the latest chapters.
Now that you mentioned about the Empress and Harada-sensei's passing seiyuus, I am painfully reminded of Genji-san and Nekota-san's seiyuus passing within a year. The memories of Madhouse giving the two veterans the respect that they deserved in the anime are still fresh. It feels a bit strange when you can really associate those two who were the embodiment of the word 'Mentor'. And we are in the same situation like we were back then in another Madhouse anime now. What's more, both are my all time favourite sports anime. :(
I am not sure how long I am gonna be around. Couldn't resist myself coming back after reading Gintama chapter 699. And then obviously the nonsense that was said of Shuichi in Chikai no Finale threads.
If there's any anime that you found interesting in the last two quarters, do let me know!
And Happy Holidays to you too!
But there are horrible dubs out there too
