Nageki no Bourei wa Intai shitai

As dungeon-like treasure vaults started appearing throughout the land, more and more people began signing up as treasure hunters—risking their lives to obtain the vast riches and ancient relics inside. In the imperial capital of Zebrudia, the top hunter party is the Grieving Souls—a group of six childhood friends led by Krai Andrey, who is thought to be the strongest of them due to having a reputed wide array of skills.

However, Krai actually has no special talent. His accomplishments are actually the result of his friends being overpowered. Krai has repeatedly attempted to leave the party out of fear his lack of aptitudes would one day cause his companions' downfall. Nevertheless, everyone around Krai thinks differently, making him feel obligated to remain the group's leader.

This is quite a fun series, one of those switch off your brain, sit back and just enjoy the mindless fun type series.

There is nothing amazing about it, and there is nothing bad about it either,

The animation is good, it doesn't descend into bad CGI, or into a collection of still-frames, the action is smooth, but it doesn't do anything amazing either, it isn't flashy with amazing fight scenes and impressive animation, it's just good, I would say it looks like your standard anime of its type, but that is no longer the case as with bad CGI and low budgets being the norm.
The ... OST is once again good, it's what you expect, it's what you want for a series like this, it doesn't make you want to skip the OP and ED, but nor does it make you think it's amazing and unskippable

The story works, it's not deep and meaningful, it's a fun comedy and just supposed to be an entertaining series, so the story is there to hang everything else off, it does its job without being too deep and involved, it is as said a vehicle for everything else, so it doesn't need to be ground breaking or thought provoking, we're not watching for the story, so as long as there is nothing that takes you out of it, then it is generally fine, and there are no obvious plot holes

Which brings me to characters, and I'll talk about the MC in detail because it seems like almost everyone who has watched this has missed what is going on there.

Krai the MC was forced to become leader of the most powerful Hunting Party, and Guild, despite knowing how weak he is compared to his friends and repeated attempts to quit. He has however risen to becoming one of the top ranked hunters and many myths about him have arisen, he is misunderstood by almost everyone.
While it is true he is physically weak, he is OP in his own way, but he's unaware of it. First there is the obvious, his party Grieving Souls are all OP, they are now considered monsters because of how strong they are and no one can keep them under control, except Krai, the other is his ability to predict events, he has no idea he's doing it, it's like he has a maxed out luck stat and maxed out insight, but he's unable to directly benefit from those rolls.

To talk about the rest of the cast in depth can risk spoiler territory, so I will say they provide good depth for the series, having different, often extreme and even questionable personalities is never a bad thing especially in a comedy, a common complaint in many anime is that the characters are bland, and that can't be said here.

Mixed Feelings

In short I enjoyed 90% of this show, it's fun and has some solid comedy, and some admittedly cringeworthy characters. I'm mainly here to warn people that the lead in this, Kray, is frankly aweful. He doesn't care, is clueless and lazy. He doesn't want to me in this anime, and after a while that gets really annoying.

What doesn't help is that the running joke, that his a mysterious all-seeing god hunter, doesn't break for a minute. So rather than a joke it's just this rather ludicrous state of affairs. So to be clear, don't want it expecting anything other than to hate him. ... His actual childhood friends though are fun, they're clearly insanely talented and as such can't really connect with anyone else but they're fun, and importantly seem like they're having fun.

Your enjoyment with this entirely depends on your patience for anime protags who are 'too cool for school'. This anime has some solid comedy, but it's all happening despite Kray.

5.5/10 - Watchable for the few fun parts, fairly appealing characters, and the OP theme. But imo, nothing to lose missing out on this, and not much to gain for doing so.

(Don't feel like making a format for this.)

As fairly funny as it has been, and as fairly appealing the characters maybe, this entire show just felt like it was about nothing at all. None of the story stuff were really interesting. And when it comes to Krai's 'want-to-retire' situation, they didn't really do a good job with that neither.

Krai went from being someone who couldn't careless and be bothered about anything but always ends ... up in very fortunate lucky situations anyway, to just another harem dude who knows what he got and takes advantage of it. The other characters lost any potential to be interesting as they become nothing more than one-dimensional characters who are obsessed on Krai's "greatness".
The gimmick being poorly executed pisses me off since a big reason to watch this show is to watch him get pulled into problematic situations due to his misconceived "greatness" as he tries his darndest to get out of it, only to end up being lucky and getting the obstacle dealt with unintentionally. But by the latter part of the show, he's basically pretty much self-aware of everything, and it just becomes about the shenanigans of a dude who takes advantage of his "fake" status to get what he wants. It becomes much less interesting without the obliviousness and unintentional solutions of the protag.

Sitri could've been an interesting character after the cult stuff but was then relegated to being just another obsessed waifu of Krai.
There wasn't even a low-tier mini-boss for them to deal with to end the season; the rivals that they built up near the end just became a laughingstock for nothing-- elevating no character and not adding anything to the story even just for the last arc of the season.

My only takeaway from this show is the OP theme, which reminds me of the good ol' grand energetic OP themes of the past. It hypes me up every time even though there's nothing about the show that I look forward to.
