Criminale! is a relatively light hearted manga, and it's strong suit is in the presentation of comedy. The premise of the main character being a criminal magnet while having the supporting cast be mostly criminals of some sort is really interesting and makes for some great recurring jokes. In my opinion the comedy is almost Gintama level.

It's a shame that this manga had to have such an abrupt end since it seemed like there were plans for some more exciting developments. Nevertheless, Criminale! was very good and I couldn't stop turning the pages once I started. I ended up finishing it in 1 sitting and ... I hope you'll give it a chance too.

I may be a bit biased towards this manga, as it seems I have completely fallen in love with it. So much so that I download the pages, print them out, then cook them and eat them over rice.





Okay, so I may not actually do that last bit, but I really am in love with this manga.


For the Story- 10
I love the concept, which is a nice and refreshing thought compared to a lot of the stuff I've read. The story resolves around our young MC, who unfortunately attracts all kinds of criminals and generally bad guys. As the story goes on, although ... I am at the time of writing this at chapter 20, each chapter draws you in and keeps you reading it. Infact, I only started reading it about 2 or 3 hours before this review and Im already at chapter 20 because I can't put it down (or in my case close the tab).

For the Art- 7
The art style reminds me of boku no hero academia, where each character is flushed out and nicely drawn, however the background scenery seems a bit lacking at times though. Although it is alright, as I am way more focused on the characters in this master piece.

For the Characters- 9
Each character is incredibly well done, both in the artistic sense and the character sense. In the last 20 chapters Ive read, I watched our little MC grow from a scared victim to a less scared victim. Its wonderful!! Makes me want to take the pages of this manga and roll them into sushi ro-WHOOPS FORGET THAT. I don't want to spoil any of the characters, as each one is a plot point and each one you will want to read more about as you read more of this manga.

I actually laughed out loud at one of the scenes, which can be a rather rare thing for me. Rarely have I fallen this hard for a manga, and I pray to sweet baby yeezus that this gets an anime adaptation as soon as it can. I can NOT wait for it.

Heres a summary of what I've said: I love the story and the main concept, the characters are absolutely amazingly done, the art feels a bit lacking at times but over all its pretty good, and Ive fallen really hard for this amazing manga. Hard enough to go into ULTRA YANDERE MODE

*UPDATE*
Okay so this manga has been finished, and it has a axed type ending. Is there any sort of conclusion to this manga? Nope. Do I feel bad about it? Yeah, I wanted to see our hero of misfortune get with one of our lovely psycho ladies. Does that mean my rating will go down? Nope, I feel that even though it was an axed like ending, it was still an amazing ride from start to finish. So I'll ride on blue 9

This manga has been gaining some popularity recently now that it's being translated. And I believe that it's justified, as it has alot of potential, with funny gags and a few jiggles, a cast with diverse personalities and good development between them.

Story 8/10

Here we follow Ichimura Tamito, suffering from several criminal cases in which he is a victim of, to the point where he even considers himself a magnet of those. He gets sent to a class only to find out that it's also made out of criminals and suspects and that it was made to correct their behaviour. This is an interesting premise I ... must say, and currently I am liking the direction it is taking, with much of the story still left in the dark and it slowly unfolds it's true colours.

Art 7/10

As for the art I don't really have much to say, it's ok it has its moments, but this is something that could get more improvements overtime as the author gets more experience and my score could very well increase. I could also add that I do like the character designs and whatever it is that the author tries to portrait, It's shown clearly with little room for complaints.

Characters 8/10

A strong and solid point of the manga. As I've mentioned before, the cast, in this case, the criminals's class, has a diversity of interesting personalities. As of this point they are still showing all the characters that will be relevant to the story and there has yet to be one that I hate or dislike in any way. Even the main character, despite some denseness towards the girls which I don't find that bothering, is no pussy and usually reacts to the situation in a proactive way which I very much enjoy.

I'm quite liking this manga and I think that at this point, after finishing the introduction of the remaining characters, it can go from 2 directions: the first is keeping it's somewhat goofy and comedic style which is ok as long as the author manages to keep it interesting and funny as he does right now and the second one, which I doubt it'll be the case, is for it to get serious, to show story arcs with lots of character development about their past lives as criminals and what could've possibly gotten them into that class. This is the direction I'd love to see, but that doesn't mean that the current one isn't good either.

Give it a try, it has alot of potential to become something great. The crazy characters are worth it and just dedicating 2-3 hours of your time you'll have read what's currently in stock and then be able make a decision on your own.

Criminale! is a very light-hearted, fun to read, stress relieving anime. I absolutely adorbed this manga because of mainly one thing: the characters. The characters are awesome as they all possess unique characteristics that make them shine. Basically TLDR: read this manga. I loved it and you probably will too. Now lets go to the review:
Story 8/10:
The story in my opinion was nothing special. I've heard many of my peers think that the story was unique but I thought it was solid. Basically the main MC is a criminal magnet and because of this has never made friends before. Due to his strange powers, ... he enters a special highschool to help him make friends but unbeknownst to him, his classmates are all criminals. This wacky concept makes up cute moments and a lot of WTF moments. Overall the story potrays a slice of life kind of feeling to it but trust me there actually is story involved. UNFORTUNATELY I just found out that the manga artist is sick so the writer had to stop. IF you ever get the chance to read Criminale! and feel somewhat unsatisfied with the ending and think "Man there were a lot of plot holes that they didn't cover" don't be mad. The manga writer had plans but due to unfortunate events he had to stop writing. Best of luck, get better Criminale! artist!

Art 9/10:
The art was amazing! There were some battle scenes but they were actually pretty legit. The detail of the characters isn't something to behold like Beserk but this was pretty solid.

Character 9/10:
The character AHHH! My favorite part of this manga! I loved the characters! I think that there were maybe 3 characters I really loved and thankfully they were the main focal point of the story. The main MC isn't anything particularly unique but the heroines are awesome! There were so many diabetic moments and I just loved what each character had to bring.

Overall this manga was very enjoyable! I really wish it could've ended the way the mangaka wanted to but I'm happy with the way it ended as well. I definitely recommend Criminale! to anyone who wants a light hearted fun manga to read!

Before we start, I just want to ask: How many great works have been delayed, dropped or forced ending due to sickness? I’ve heard about Noragami’s status along with HunterxHunter’s and World Trigger’s really gets me worried, but the saddest thing is a manga being rushed to an end.

I’m so depressed about Criminale being ended soon even having lots of potential. Story, characters could be developed more and this manga would be fascinating.


Action combines with school life always has its own seduction other manga don’t have. Fresh and extraordinary, this type can easily bring us through an emotion garden with different flowers, although Criminale can’t ... show full sight of it.

Criminale and Assassination Classroom have two things in common. Both focus on each student’s talent and they’re in a special class among all the normal ones which can bring in a ton of weapon. Last but not least, friendship and romance are mined in many school life manga, and this one isn’t an exception. But 39 chapters aren’t enough to display perfectly, even they appear a lot and sometimes dim the action role. Ignoring that, this manga usually makes me laugh with a light – hearted, comedy type of story.


Tamito is very unlucky because the criminals always target him every seconds, but soon be used to it and tries to avoid any negative situations. Because of that, he doesn’t have any friends at school until he goes to high school where he meets strange new friends with different crimes, the friends who accept and get along with him throughout high school life. This story reminds me of ‘Milo Murphy’s law on Disney Channel, both of them teach us to watch out for accidents happen all around the city.


There are too much unknown information about these characters. What are their past and talents? Why they are criminals? Instead of showing it by some stories, the authors decide to put it in a textbox.

With a cute artwork and characters, Criminale can satify any readers. The author also said that he really focused on characters’ design, especially on Sarah, so that their acts are hilarious and adorable.


I have to say that again, Criminale truly has a lot of potentials, and if the author could have done this work perfectly, I’m sure this would be an interesting manga that no one wants to be missed. Anyway, with just 39 chapters, Criminale succeeds to show us a light –hearted, comedy manga which can relax you after a busy day.

Criminale! is a manga that is based around comedy and gives off slice of life feeling, the manga is all about the characters that are interesting and fun in their own way. We follow Ichimura Tamito as he meets new people, makes friends for the first time in his life and tries to lead an ordinary life while getting mixed up in different criminal activities such as kidnapping, pick pocketing, arson, robbery, molestation, and more such fun activities.

The comedy is achieved by pulling off something bizarre in the middle of nowhere, catching you off guard. The comedy doesn't repeat itself and new ideas ... are thrown around each chapter, you won't get bored by anything repetitive and should enjoy the interactions between the characters. The reason the comedy works so well is because of the characters and how they deal with these bizarre situations.

The concept itself is interesting, from reading the synopsis you should get the gist of it. There is no real story development going on, it is the characters that lead the manga. You shouldn't expect anything too serious, it doesn't have things like drama or hard emotions. It is pretty easy going and fun till the end, there are few emotional stuff thrown there and here but those only last for 2-3 chapters. It has quite a few one-sided love going on but I won't be telling how those end, you should enjoy finding that out yourself and the ending of these romance doesn't have any impact on the overall manga itself anyway so it shouldn't be the deciding factor on if you wish to read it or not. That doesn't mean that there is no romance, some chapters are spent only about the characters that are in love trying to get attention of their crush and spending more time with them. It definitely has its cute moments but the romance should only be treated as a side bonus and not the main thing that is going on.

The character themselves, as I have told before, are the main selling point here. They are all "Criminal" or suspected of being "Criminal" in the future. What type of "criminal" they are will have a huge impact on what kind of character they are. Each character is a different type of criminal, and the reasons for them being criminal are all interesting. The author did a good job of giving life to the characters, by giving emotion and reason. Of course since this is mainly a comedy manga they don't have too deep emotions or anything similar, but for a manga that aims to be funny, it did a good job.

You should be looking to read this manga if you wish to read something funny, it also gives off a slice of life feeling so it isn't like there is only comedy, there is more to that. It is like peeking to the life of a group of friends and their mishaps, how they got together and what they are going to to in future.

Imagine a manga where you have a new concept, very interesting characters and a good drawing style, but when its first big arc happens it ends.
This is the case of this work; Criminale is one of my favorite manga, and there are plenty of reasons, my only complaint is that it ended when it shouldn't, I know it's unlikely but if there was a continuation I would be very happy.
However, do not let this review fool you, it does not prevent the fact that the manga is finished from taking you away from reading it; because in spite of everything it is totally ... worth it.
I am sure that if it had continued as a normal manga, it would have become a classic; occupies an anime adaptation, people will be able to see how great Criminale! is.

Criminale is a story that is good, but could have been much better if given more time to develop. It's greatest downfall is the fact that the author had to cut it short.

The plot is simple enough: there is a boy who is a 'natural born victim', or a constant target of criminals. He ends up transferring into a new classroom of criminals where he learns and befriends each one, with the last student ushering in an actual plot line about the importance of being known and of others being there for you. It's a light read with decent comedy that hinges on the absurdity ... of each of the classmates that the Ichimura, the MC, meets. Even though it is admittedly not the most innovative thing to do, the author handles it well enough to the point that it stays pretty consistently funny.

The characters are definitely the most important part of the story. Each one of them is a certain type of criminal on the outside, but a very different person on the inside. The sweet and shy girl is actually a really perverted stalker, the scary faced yakuza son actually loves baking, the assassin is actually really soft and girl on the inside, etc. All these characterizations really emphasize the main theme of the manga, which is that who we are on the outside is not always who we are on the inside, so we need to look past first appearances and look towards who people really are. Or to put it simply, don't judge a book by its cover. A sweet and succinct message from a short story.

That being said, the last handful of chapters is a standalone storyline about the last missing student that we don't get to meet until then. It is much more emotional and impactful than the rest of the story, which was something I enjoyed, but is plagued by terrible pacing. It is obvious the author had a tight timeline to keep so they couldn't fully tell the story they wanted, but you gotta judge a story by what is there, not what it could have been. The main villain has no real motivation, and the problem gets solved way too quickly. If more time were given to more fully explore each individual character as well as the interactions between sets of characters, then this manga may have made much more of an impact in the grander scheme.

The only other thing I didn't like about the story was the way the endings of each chapter was structured, with a few pages of 4-komas. Don't get me wrong, they were mostly funny and important to building up more character traits for each character, but they took away from the pacing of the story, especially at the end. They would be more suited for their own specific chapters separate from the main story.

Overall, I really enjoy this manga and wish it got the treatment it deserved rather than what it was allowed. It had good comedy, a message to say, and didn't take itself too seriously: a perfect combo for any work. It's a quick and light read for all, so I would highly recommend it.


--------Spoilers for best girl ending--------
As an aside, I liked how best girl was chosen in the end, but it really rubbed me the wrong way since best girl was chosen second overall, so was it really a win? It makes me lowkey upset but I guess it's better than any other girl winning in the end.

Wow. This is definitely a hidden gem. I wouldn't consider it one of my all-time favorites, but it was certainly super enjoyable.

Story - 10/10
Story concept is incredibly original, and was definitely pulled off well. I came into the manga expecting it to be a drama-filled, pity-the-MC sort, but it definitely betrayed my expectations, for good. Pacing of the story was nice. Humor was well-placed. Drama is relatively light, although it definitely picks up a LITTLE towards the end, understandably.
Despite what people say about the author ending it a bit quick, I thought the ending was perfect. Sure, it could have used a little more romance ... (aka leading up to a confession), but it really would be out of character for THIS particular manga for the MC to end up with one of the girls. The fact that it ended as a manga mostly focused on friendship yet with romance elements was superb for its premise.
I would also classify this as a harem manga, and one of the better-executed ones. More about that in "Characters".
The only downside of the manga is its obvious anti-American sentiments, although that in itself is satire so it's fine.

Art - 9/10
One of the better depictions of a yandere character that I've seen. Most other yandere art gives off an almost horror feel, which isn't always the right tone. The way the Stalker is drawn in yandere moments really conveys the possessiveness of the yandere personality, but also doesn't make the reader feel repulsed. In a way, it fits with the Stalker's cute alter-ego.
Other than that, the action sequences are pretty standard fare, with some pockets of over-the-topness for humor, which works well. Background and scenery isn't noteworthy, but there aren't any glaring issues either. Not worthy of a 10/10, but better than an 8.

Character - 10/10
Highly memorable and bond-able characters. Character design is obviously well-thought out, and the inclusion of their backstory between chapters is nice, especially at the beginning as it served as a good reminder. Character traits are definitely unique, although there are some cliches in personalities/alter-egos.
One of the things that stood out was that even though the MC is supposedly in the worst situations ever, he's one of the more likable characters. Not dense (to a certain point), not stupid, actually skilled in his own way, cares, and takes initiative. His growth is also very apparent as the manga progresses.
The other interesting aspect is the subtle inclusion of the harem element. The manga manages to weave it in without it becoming obnoxious, and also keeps it controlled. Each member of the harem is decisive in their own way, and aren't always happy-go-lucky about their attraction to the MC. They also do things that makes you respect them as the reader, and they follow through. No unnecessary melodrama. Because of this, it feels like what a true harem manga should be like: Jerking the reading back and forth between which girl to support, without wanting to support everyone, but without knowing for sure which one right away.

Enjoyment - 9/10
I would definitely want to see more filler regarding their romance, but how it is is perfect. It made me laugh, it pulled some heartstrings, it made me ship, and best of all, it didn't piss me off after I finished reading.

Overall - 10/10 flat.

tl;dr: A solid story centered around a group of interesting friends that ends too quickly.

This manga was incredibly solid for what it was, but it was too short. The core concept of there being someone that's very good at dealing with criminals at the center of a group of friends of inherent criminals is a really interesting character set up. The criminals also had a pretty interesting set of skills , personalities, and quirks to them, which ultimately made them an incredibly great group of friends to just watch as they lived their school lives. Plot wise, for the majority of the manga, there isn't much to the plot beyond this, but ... because of the strength of the cast it is amusing and enjoyable to the end. There is some level of plot though, and what it has is pretty good. Mainly, arc revolving around Harukana, her problems, and how the rest of the class helps her overcome them to become part of the group was incredibly well executed and the development, especially the scene as it closed off was great. The larger overarching plot also seemed to begin developing, relating to special bloodlines, Tamito's special ability, and what the purpose of the school ultimately was. While all of this ends on a pretty solid note, so it is somewhat satisfying, it still feels like it ended way too early. Relationships are still completely up in the air, though there may have been a hint at what direction they were going in with the extra. Characters still have a lot of room to be further explored, such as in that they all got character profiles and families that we saw very little of. And the plot only just got set up, with a lot of potential that just got nipped in the bud. It felt a lot like a single cour anime adaptations of a longer manga, but without anything to fall back on to read the rest of the story. I've heard that the author got sick, which lead to it being dropped, which I understand and hope they've returned to good health, but it is quite a shame. The art was also really good.
