Both delve in the pain of being outed in a very poignant fashion. The main characters of each title is able to move forward and take on the judgementality of his peers thanks to the allies he has giving him courage. Both also have at least one female character that isn't just a plot device, as is the case with BL, but a compelling character in her own right. 

Both deal with the problem of being gay/LGBT in society without going into many relationships between gays. Also, both have a careful explanaition of struggles and problems of members of the LGBT community - while Koimonogatari only focuses on the problems of gay people, Shimanami Tasogare has L,G,B(?) and T characters 

This rec is for ch 1-2 of Mousouka - both manga have a very open minded het boy who finds that one of his batch mates is gay. Curiosity leads him to get to know the gay boy better, and slowly but surely, he starts developing feelings for this quiet little boy. 

Both manga showcase the terrifying life a teenage gay boy has to live, hiding away his true self, always afraid of being outed, and a lot of internal monologuing that show how difficult his life really is. This is an exceptionally rare aspect that is covered in BL manga, so I highly recommend this manga! 

Slice of life romance involving high school boys in a very relaxing atmosphere. 

Apart from having superficial similarities (a high school setting, Shounen Ai, one dude's straight and one is gay, and sadly the fact that both manga are ongoing), what makes both so much alike is the emphasis given on dialogues, including thoughts and monologues. The flow of the dialogues is very natural, and exactly the kind of conversation you would have with a friend (or with yourself). So if you enjoy reading manga that focus a lot on the feelings of the MCs, then they're both the perfect fit for you. 

In my opinion, both are a bit more mature pieces of art in the BL genre. While Hidamari confronts disabilities in a very touching and true way, Koimonogatari is about another difficulty - of being homosexual in an environment that is not always accepting. The characters in both series are easy to relate to. They are true to their feeling throughout the series, and it is conveyed to us in a simple and yet very touching way. 

They're both slow-paced shounen ai with a focus on realism. They start off by depicting the beginning of a tender friendship, and then only gradually start exploring the possibility of there being something more... 

- both are high school setting and have protagonists who have known they were gay for a while - deal with suppression of queer identity and the accepting MLs who help them overcome this feeling - friends to lovers dynamics, very warm/fluffy vibes 

Both are slice of life and deal heavily with introspection and LGBT issues. However, Hourou Musuko is focused on transgendered youths, following them through life from elementary to high school. Koimonogatari is focused on the psychology and complications of being gay. H.M. is also written from the perspective of the LGBT individuals themselves where as Koimonogatari is most often more from an outsider's perspective looking in. 

What's similar: the overall vibe (romantic/introspective), the setting (high-school), the context and the circumstances of the two MC (a guy falls in love with his classmate, the other just kind of gets swept up in the whole thing and has to sort out his feelings on the subject). Comments: Koimonogatari is deeper, more thoughtful and far less stereotypical (up to now); Blue Lust is more yaoi than shounen ai, the romance and where it's headed is much clearer (although both mangas are still publishing); also, Blue Lust has a strong tragic element, whereas the overall story in Koimonogatari is far more "mundane".
