One is a cooking manga, while the other involves a man beast (or beast man?) of an uncle. But both at it's core deals with the story of a recently widowed father dealing with the everyday slice of life of raising a young girl (who seizes life by the horns), from kindergarten and onward.

Both have similar vibes to each other, and despite how wholesome it is, both show mature themes like moving on, taking care of children, and love.

A kid who loves to put his/her father and uncle/mother through the hoops. They lack the energy to keep up with his/her shenanigans. *The Slice of Life theme is very elaborately written, as should be for these family centered manga. *Comedy is top-notch!

Main character is a widowed man with a mischievous young daughter. Wholesome, domestic slice-of-life story

Chichi to Hige-Gorilla to Watashi is what Usagi Drop was for the first 1/3 of its story. It shows what Usagi Drop could and should have been. Lighthearted, warm, funny. You have a widowed father that takes care of his daughter, together with his brother. We follow their lifes in a slice of live-ish manner, the three of them at home, the dad at work and the daughter at kindergarten and their interactions with friends and coworkers. There are even appropriate loveinterests for each of them and the story actually does something with them. Something that Usagi Drop failed to do.

Cute kids and cute art. The two are very similar and give me yotsuba to! vibes (and sweetness and lightning of course). The story is sweet but also bittersweet and focuses on the relationships the caregivers have with their kids, although in Hyakunichikan!! he is underage vs in chichi gorilla it's her father/ uncle. :)

Both about single fathers raising their child, but in Hige-Gorilla the uncle is there to help and in Chichi to Ko he only has himself most of the time.

Both manga are about a father taking care of his daughter after the mom passes away. My girl is much more emotional and straight forward. Chichi to Hige-Gorilla to Watashi (especially at the beginning) is much more comedy focused, however later in the series there is much more drama added to it. Another difference is that Chichi to Hige has an added element of an uncle as a main character along with the father and daughter while My Girl is focused only on the father and daughter. I think if you like one you'll enjoy the other but if you're looking for an emotional rollercoaster  read more

Dad, Beard gorilla and I is a beautiful slice of life manga. It has short episodic chapters, light read, funny, and has little bits of romance. The child....Michiru is a young girl who lost her mother a while ago. The mother’s (Miyuki) passing away is brought up many times, in a very sensitive manner. The sad bits are a part of life too. But thanks to his cute daughter and younger brother( named as Beard Gorilla by Michiru) the dad manages to move on. Every day is a happy day of parenting, working in office, cooking, visiting the zoo, etc. Very enjoyable read. It made  read more
