Avid Anime watcher, generally I watch whatever I feel like but primarily I feel like Psychological shows. I enjoy making theories on the story and I will never read the Manga of a show I am watching, one or the other. But if the Manga I am reading gets an adaptation, its all cool.

For my ratings of Anime, I do it based on my expectation.

10 - If I mark it a 10 it goes beyond what I expected it. Think of 9 as almost perfect and 10 as that little bit extra.

9 - This is the highest it can go without exceeding my expectation. A 9 means the show was great. The art, the story and the soundtrack all have to be on point for a 9. The character development can change from time to time, it doesn't need a diverse character development but at times it does, its all down to my feelings at that time.

8 - Quite good but lacking in certain aspects, most likely the enjoyment factor. I love anime where I watch it and feel like only 5 mins have gone by even though it finished, it needs to distract me in order to get anywhere close to a 7 or 8, if I am painfully aware of the time, it falls short on that aspect.

7 - Alright but lacking more in aspects than 8. 7 and 8 are pretty close so it just goes down to my specific feelings on which to mark it as.

6 - Enjoyable but slow. Generally how I feel when I watch Slice of Life.

5 - Meh, some parts enjoyable, but generally forcing myself to watch it.

4 - Lets be real. If it goes below 5 and its an anime. I've dropped it already. For a movie i'll watch to the end.

For Manga its pretty much how I feel at the time that determines the score seeing as there isn't a soundtrack.

In my Anime list, when starting a new seasonal Anime I will always update the first episode to watching and score it at least 7. If its better, it will get higher but a 7 is the starting point. Then I will not update it until its finished. Some shows that I dropped still have scores like 7 or 8 on them because I only update that I dropped it, I do not update the score.

There are times when I drop or place on hold Anime, this is because I do not have time to watch it, or its an older Anime but I haven't been watching it for a while, this counts as dropped, I have clearly lost all interest in the show.
