At first, I thought this manga was going to be just like any other forbidden love theme. I didn't think much of it when I saw summaries and pictures but when I actually started reading, I absolutely loved it. The reason is because it's not too romantic. Well, at least not yet. Anyways, I hate sappy, cheesy, overdone romance mangas that have no point whatsoever. I'm sure you do too. This manga isn't like that at all. In fact, Tomoe even hates (like really hates) her at the beginning but they start to soften up to each other even though Tomoe tries to hide it.

This review is meant for people who want to get into this manga and need a lead or are insecure about it because of rumors. Also this is a spoiler-free review that will help the new ones but offer depth to the ones who already read it since the writing implies stuff that can be interpreted.
Kamisama Hajimemashita, oh man there are so many things to say about this. Do you ever feel that you need a change in your life? We all know by now that anime and manga are a really good way to escape reality and enjoy yourself (temporarily unfortunately). Why did I ... Jul 24, 2010
When I picked this up, I assumed that it would have the typical shojo manga storyline. I decided to read it to test it out. I know you're not supposed to judge a book by it's cover, but that's what I do; I don't read a manga series if I don't like the art AND the story. It has to be both. I absolutely loved this!
The story is very cute and I think I liked this almost as much as Vampire Game, which is the very first manga series I ever read. Nanami is very adorable (in a sense...) and the fact that she ... Aug 24, 2013
This is my first review here so sorry for possibly sounding incoherent or something.
I gotta tell you, I don't really like shoujo manga and animes. I tried, but I found them too clichéd (gah, hate clichés) and mushy and I usually hate the main female characters with such a passion I can't continue with the story. What is up with the annoying love triangles too? Not to mention the art style tends to be so... cheesy or just... weird. Hope this doesn't offend anyone, they're just not to my taste. Anyway, I started reading this because my sister recommended it. I was skeptical, cuz of the ... May 2, 2011
First of all, I don't understand why this manga is so underrated. I've read several reviews for this manga and most of them were saying that "something is lacking" and "could've been better". They even compared it to other shoujo mangas that have similar plots, and NONE of them were even as good! The mangas that those reviewers suggested were the predictable and fast-paced mushy lovey-dovey stories. It was irritating to the extent that I stopped reading after 4 chapters.
The story line may seem like "psh-puhleas" kinda thing, but it's not. Although the story isn't very original (since there are other mangas with ... May 18, 2018
Watching the anime of Kamisama Hajimemashita last year left me with lots of questions and excitement that led me here to read the manga. And so, I was really glad that I've finished reading it.
Story: 10 Being able to see Nanami, Tomoe, and Mizuki's journey made me happy as if I was really in the manga. The arcs were breath taking that it didn't even left some holes. It even arrived with the ending smoothly. Art: 10 At first I was slightly not sure about the art, but not long after, it became better and better. ... Feb 13, 2019
I never posted a review if its not a good one.
Over all 10/10 for me! I really never thought that I would fall in love with its story! Very cute i got hooked so easily! Story : Its story is very interesting lots of twist that would make you want to finish this immediately! I cant even sleep without thinking what will happen next so I end up reading the next chapter. The story is jusy normal a human falls in love with a demon but there are lots of things happened that would make the story exciting! Their love story is very cute, sweet, young and ... Apr 27, 2020
OKAY so! First off i'm definitely not the type to read mangas, I'm one of those people... I've watched anime ever since I was a kid and always refused to read the manga but recently I decided to rewatch the anime and read into the rest of the story.
I rated everything a 10 which might not be a lot from me because I rate everything I watch a 10, but this definitely deserved it. Story: 10 I love rom-coms and the manga just topped off my dreams for the anime, reading the manga genuinely made me cry, I don't care about cliches, I feel like this ... Sep 8, 2020
This story touched my heart in so many ways!
I've always loved the anime for years, but I only got to read the manga recently. The anime already stole my heart, but the manga just gave me so much more insight on the plot and the characters. The whole manga was so well rounded, there was not an arc I did not enjoy. The manga made me laugh and cry so much! I was able to understand each character so much more and fell in love with all of them as well. When they smiled, I smiled as well, and when they cried, I cried ... Nov 14, 2012
WARNING: MAY HAVE SPOILERS AHEAD
Ahhh...a shoujo manga. When one hears the shoujo genre attached to something, some or most may cringe, and it is definitely understandable. The shoujo genre has become surrounded with tropes and stereotypes for more than a decade now. First encounters have become formulaic, and the romance and character developments have become predictable. But despite the enveloping ideas that surround what is usually (and somehow supposedly) shoujo, there is always a work that swims out of the cliche ocean and climbs up the excellence ship. Kamisama Hajimemashita is one of those shoujo manga that at face value resembles its predecessors. Girl meets hot guy? ... Feb 23, 2017
I really like this manga at first and as the story progressed on, I started liking it more and more. But, there were many things that really changed my opinion about this manga.
ART 8/10: The art was really nice and I really liked it, but there was nothing really special about it. STORY 7/10: The plot of the story is unique, but the vibe of it was like any other shoujo manga. CHARACTER 8/10: At first, I thought that Nanami was a weak heroine and she needed Tomoe to save her all the time. But, she progressed and she was weak but not as ... Dec 21, 2013
Before I started reading the manga, I watched the anime, which was simply filled with great character development. It leaked on story, though, so I decided to read the manga. I am definitely not disappointed. The manga story later on focuses on romance, but not in a cheesy way. Some things I'm not personally satisfied with are for e.g. some action scenes, and the art style in general. But, compared to some other art I've seen so far, it's still well done. In the manga Nanami and Tomoe grow and the character development goes on. I can't say often enough how much I like the

Kamisama Hajimemashita has always been one of those anime that I always wanted to look into, but could never get quite into. The anime couldn't hold me, but I was pleasantly surprised when I decided to read the manga on a whim.
Kaisama Hajimemashita seemed like one of those pretty-boy supernatural reverse-harem manga, and while I am down for any media featuring both the supernatural and handsome members of the opposite sex, very rarely do I find and works in the sub-genre to be of much substance. Kamisama, however, was an exception. The manga is a romantic comedy, and what joys me the most is that ... Apr 25, 2020
I love the art here. It's very very sharp and mature (not overly cutesy). This story is a great mix of fantasy, action, and romance. The main characters are endearing and I enjoyed watching them grow through their many adventures. I thought pacing was great. Each volume had a lot to offer and held my attention. I enjoyed all of the side characters and their stories. Often when I'm reading manga series I find that things sort of go awry towards the end. I was glad to see that didn't happen here, and the ending was very satisfying. Time to watch the anime!

Story:
The plot is nothing that hasn’t been done similarly before (ie. Inuyasha); however, even with that being said it’s still compelling and interesting. Unlike in other shoujo manga where the romance is practically shoved into your face in the beginning, or a few chapters there’s epiphanies of feelings going on, this takes its sweet time to develop the characters and their feelings. While Nanami falls for Tomoe at a regular interval, as expected, however the feelings aren’t immediately reciprocated. Which brings freshness to the story, instead we’re given banter between the two main protagonists (border-lining hateful resentment from Tomoe in the beginning), and a ... Jul 8, 2010
I randomly come across this manga and I must say a few chapters in and im in love with it! I find it vary intresting! Ive read alot of shojos and you think this would be another "too much of this, Or I already know whats going to happen next, etc" Well its not that way for me. Its really heart warming and the art is beautiful and really well drawn! It reminds me of black bird a little bit. (if you read black bird then you know what im saying.lol) I like how in the start the main guy (tomoe, the none humen fox-guy)

I can't say everything I want about this manga or this will be seven pages long. Short version: read it, it's good.
If the art isn't your style, I'd suggest watching the anime then starting off where the anime ends (approx chapter 65) cuz the art improves DRASTICALLY as the manga continues. The characters are all so lovable, the story is interesting, and the central love story is one of the best I've read. The whole world is so comforting, I was so sad to leave the story behind, but the ending was so good so I can't complain. Read it, it's mostly sweet romance mixed with funny ... Jun 16, 2011
The first thing that stood out to me in this manga was
1. Unique Characters 2. The Humor 3. How this manga slowly unravels... When you first read the summary you think....isn`t this like a typical shojo manga? But as you read it no its not! The protagonist in this story is not pathetic, her servant Tomoe has a very unique characteristic I`ve never seen any character like him before. He`s a little cynical, yet with a mixture of tsundere in my opinion. The humor in this manga just makes you lol at times when you needed it and I don`t get why everyone says the manga is slow ... I'm so angry at myself for starting this manga while it's still ongoing. I initially enjoyed the anime adaptation, and figured I'd finish off the story with the manga. I'm kicking myself so hard for that, but, at the same time, I feel like there'd be something important missing in my life if I hadn't read it. It's not often I get that attached to a story.
>Story-----------10 It had a very fast-paced beginning, which initially turned me off. I thought everything was being put out there far too quickly for such a long series, but boy was I wrong. Like any ... Feb 11, 2013
This was a surprisingly enjoyable shoujo manga. The forbidden love theme has been done so many times before, but the way the author added youkai (demons) and the cute relationship between the two main characters made it enjoyable to read.
If you read this, no doubt you will root for Nanami, the main character, and Tomoe, her familiar's relationship. This manga made me smile and laugh at Nanami's cute antics. The story's not the most original, Nanami, being the clumsy hardworking girl, and Tomoe, the perfect, smart but cold man. However, I loved Nanami, as she is so adorable. Her moments were also sweet, and you ... |
