Both series star a young woman and take place in a fantasy setting. The main character in each takes charge of her situation and becomes powerful. Each also has a well-developed romance.

Another "girl thrown into another world" manga but of equal epic quality and fun. Same adventure and romance. Also magic mixed in too boot.
reportRecommended by SummerOtaku
Different stories, but in both a modern girl ends up in the past, but the two behave very differently

Red River is very similar to Yona as they're both fantasy stories about strong female leads doing their best for their respective kingdoms. Yona is a castaway princess trying to understand her place in the world after her father is dethroned and Yuri is a modern Japanese girl thrown into ancient Anatolia isekai style and falls in love with a prince there. Both are high fantasy traveling stories about royalty and the responsibility of those in power towards the common people. The main difference between the two I would say is the romance is more intense in Red River than it is in Yona. But  read more

Both great stories, great art and about royalty - I'm sure you'll like both if you like one of these :)!

girl travels to another world/time... girl is important in that other world/time... girl becomes powerful warrior... and many more similarities...If you liked Saver than i would definitely recommend Red River
reportRecommended by dark-lighter
Both Red River and the Fushigi Yuugi series deal with young girl who get transported to other worlds and fall in love.
reportRecommended by amade0
both girls travel back to time. also kind of in the same area. in red river, yuri travels to middle east and in royal hieroglyph carol travels to egypt.
reportRecommended by TeARsFade
Innocent yet strong and capable girl gets thrown into one bad situation after another. Both protagonists fall in love with a man of nobility. The difference is that Red River has no gender-bender and Legend of Nereid no time-travel. Furthermore, Legend of Nereid is a manhwa. But mostly, if you enjoyed Red River (like I did) you should also enjoy Legend of Nereid.

Both girls travel to another era

They both revolve around royalty and king/princes.... They both remind me of each other... Plus they r simply AMAZING!!!!
reportRecommended by fatimachaudhry1
A girl is sent back in time through water and falls in love with someone she meets in the past. Red River is a lot longer than Nise no Chigiri but if you are willing to invest in it, it is entirely worth it
reportRecommended by ellegrey
Both are about a girl being transported to another world.
reportRecommended by GothicLust
I'm only picking one main recommendation, but honestly, if you're a fan of Red River, you will likely LOVE Chie Shinohara's other works. In my opinion, she is best known for writing a good romance as well as a great suspense and action. So, if you liked Red River, delve into her other stories and you will be pleasantly rewarded. I would have to say Ao no Fuuin was very strange for me at the start because Akira looks exactly like Kail, but he doesn't act like him very much even though they both are in positions of leadership. Another fun thing is seeing random character  read more

Both girls are transported into another world/time and both have to assume royal positions. there is lova and magic in both stories and both are really interesting.
reportRecommended by as3
Historical setting romances where the girl is forced into a relationship with a warrior prince. Both girls are very unfamiliar with the settings they are forced into. While in Red River, she is from another time period, in Vision of the Other Side, she is a princess who has no knowledge of the regular world. Both girls take on their situations with a lot of courage and pluck, they are stronger than they seem and both of them strongly affect the warrior men for the better. The art styles are rather similar too.
reportRecommended by inzaratha
The main female characters both are strong and are evenly matched with the men. They find themselves in unfamiliar settings and adapt for what and who is important to them. In all, Yuri and Sei are similar and have drive.
reportRecommended by Lilyglade
yet another promising historcal piece by the same author
reportRecommended by Shiharu
Both mangas begin with a normal girl that is transported back in time. Also both heroines receive help from a handsome rich guy.
reportRecommended by DeadlyStarfish
In both titles the main character travels into the past.

They're actually quite different, but they remind me of each other.

Another Historical Romance XD For those who haven't read Red River.... ur missing out on one of the best manga's in this genre
reportRecommended by DeMoNGoDdEsS
Red River and LaD are both written by the same author (Chie Shinohara) and take place in Turkey. Even though Red River is much longer (LaD is only 3 chapters + omake) and is a history manga, I think you'd like LaD. Just as a quick read.
reportRecommended by Pandabear-107
The art is beautiful and I love the story. Give it a try
reportRecommended by MelAB23
both involve strategic/militaristic love triangles, strong-willed female leads, and pushy yet caring male leads, also historical settings/time periods. Sora wo Akai... is more dramatic and serious while Sabaku is lighter with less complex character dynamics
reportRecommended by HFH
Both manga combine shoujo romance with a historical setting, albeit a different: Anatolia Story concerns the Hittite empire (located in modern-day Turkey) whereas Rose of Versailles represents France before and during the French Revolution. It must be mentioned though that Anatolia Story is a historical fantasy work rather than a more down-to-earth historical, unlike in Rose of Versailles (where there are no supernatural elements).
reportRecommended by Krankastel
Both of them are historical romance mangas
reportRecommended by irljuri
Both stories feature a female main character who at first glance seems normal but turns out to be tied to direct the fate of their respective storylines, with Planet Ladder focusing on the entire universe and Red River focusing on the future of the Hittite Empire. Both stories have a very similar vibe in which the resolutions of each mini-conflict get resolved and present those conflicts in different settings.
reportRecommended by mosaicboy
Typical shoujo heroine gets isekai'd through time and entangles with royalty.
reportRecommended by abystoma2
Both manga stories are set in historical time and have great story lines... If you love Red River, you'd definitely love Real/Fake Princess...as well if you love Real/Fake Princess you'd love the Red River manga.. I highly recommend these manga to all who love strong girl main characters. :)
reportRecommended by flowerakane
Both female characters get transported to another world not their own via water, and both fall in love with someone in that new world, while facing people who want to harm them.
reportRecommended by kikimiko
This is almost the same story, but actually the opposite, switching the countries. I was shocked when I read the Pharaoh's Concubine!
reportRecommended by SakurakoujiEden
If you have a taste for stories that involve history, adventure, war, and romance then these are the manga for you. Similarities: - Both main female characters are tom boyish, klutzy, brave, tenacious, very smart, and have a knack for getting into trouble. - Both manga involve royalty, politics, and war. I believe there are more similarities but I feel that you should read both of these in order to find out. They just so happen to be real page turners!!!

In both a normal teenager gets transported to another world and ends up helping a young king.
reportRecommended by animealways
Historical shoujo taking place in similar times and settings, Pharaoh no Haka and Red River are notable for being historically accurate without seeming like history lessons. They're both epic adventure series, but with a distinct shoujo spin, and beautifully divide their focuses between their overarching plots and copious character development.
reportRecommended by Anomalous
The stories are very different, and SD is a shonen-ai, but both are great epic stories that take place in a well-developed world. The humor is similar in the two.
reportRecommended by as3
two stories have beautiful artwork, a mix of mysticism and romance and a lead female character who is a regular person thrown into high-society life at court
reportRecommended by as3
The stories are very different, but both are historically-based epic-like mangas with a tomboyish female character, some romance and some action
reportRecommended by as3
The stories are entirely different, but both are love stories involving kings and a different world or time
reportRecommended by as3
Historical-ish, royal court, an ordinary but charismatic girl ends up at the court, with a handsome prince . . .
reportRecommended by as3
The plots are different, but in both, magical things happen to ordinary girls who end up getting transported to other kingdoms. Add royalty, romance, some deception and you get these two super-great stories. Read them both!!!!
reportRecommended by as3
These two stories are also very different, but in both, heroines are very strong and the romance is beautiful, so if you like one, you'll probably like the other.
reportRecommended by as3
The stories are different, but both are epic, fantasy-ish tales with strong characters, good plot, and great romance. Rain is not truly historical, but it has a historical feel to it.
reportRecommended by as3
The plot lines are different, but both are excellent epic stories taking place at court, among magic in a world/time period different from ours. In both cases, female characters are strong and charismatic. RR is more shojo-based, while VG has more of an adventure feel to it, but both are excellent reads!
reportRecommended by as3
In both mangas, the main girls are schoolgirls that travel to the past. There´s romance in both.
reportRecommended by Orulyon
Both are about a girl who travel back in time, and also have similar geres( historical, romance, Adventure). They have story line that some how related to real history. Both manga have heroine who is determine and strong.
reportRecommended by rianna2008
While the story is quite dissimilar the setting is alike. In both the setting is a more rural kingdom in the past and one of the main characters is royalty, set to take over as the ruler of the country.
reportRecommended by wockys
The reader is able to watch the main female character grow and mature as danger lurks around every corner. Both titles keep you on your feet and turning the page with not only mystery and death, but true love.
reportRecommended by yukihime
Its a historical/fantasy (but Red River is a girl droped in another world type, were as the other just lives there)
reportRecommended by EsenEcho
Both are modern girls in a historical time period, Sarasah is about girl who went back in time to be with the past life of the one she loves (her past life is a daughter of a noble and she disguises herself as a boy to be with the one she likes) and Red River is a girl abducted to be a a sacrifice to kill the royal family (stuff happens, she gets involved, she and Prince Kail fall in love and she is a awesome heroine)
reportRecommended by EsenEcho
Another long but definitely worth your time ''Historical/Romance'' manga like Princess, which also deals with love, war, and politics...
reportRecommended by -K0K0-
The main character is thrown in a different world (better said is brought in a different world by someone). That is the only similarity - the THEME. As for the differences... The main char from Red River is a girl, Yuri, while the main char from Kyo Kara Maouin a guy, Yuri (actually this is another similarity :D ). Red River is a deeper series, romantic, while Kyo Kara Maou is a silly, easy-to-digest one. The first one is a definite shoujo, while the second is a sounen-ai. BUT! I really did enjoy them both in a similar different way :)
reportRecommended by sorceritza
Storywise they're not similar. But there's always a new bishie for every story arc who will fall for the heroine. And the guys are far from a gentlemen.
reportRecommended by ayreesa
Both in Sengoku Strays and Red River the heroine finds herself in the far past past, befriends a ruler and ends up engaged in wars. Both Yuri and Kasane are good fighters and strategists. However, Red River main emphasize is romance while Sengoku Strays isn't so currently. I still believe that if you like one, you'll enjoy the other.
reportRecommended by haruka_nazu
Two long historical romance shoujo manga. The rival romance leads are similar and very charismatic, arguably more so than the main male lead. They steal the spotlight (and girl) whenever they appear. Try Umi no Kishidan for a stronger/more independent female lead.
reportRecommended by shinkeikaku
the two manga are based on fantasy genre. the main characters are girls & they have somewhat power to save people around them also their romance lives and such.
