Whilst these two have completely different settings, they have many common themes between them. Both Berserk and Alita follow unfortunate protagonists whose troubles seem to go from bad to worse-- pretty much all the time. Guts and Gally/Alita (depending on where you read it) suffer terrible hardship, and through this we see them change dramatically. Both stories are so emotional and amazingly written... but I think it's important to note that they're both really gorey!

Gunnm (battle angel alita as tasteless people refer to it) and Sirius' Scar are both about a girl in a cyborg body doing battle to survive. both have a somewhat similar setup in a futuristic world almost ruined by war (with Gunnm being more on the cyberpunk side), both gally and sirius have lost their memories. Gunnm is way better, though, because Sirius' Scar was cut short after 4 volumes, were Gunnm, even without Gunnm Last Order as a continuation (the original manga has a beautiful end, even if somewhat too quick and too happy), is more action-packed and then concentrate on its characters more heavily  read more

If you love sci-fi, especially cyberpunk, these are for you. Both of them have interesting plot, and fascinating action involving cyborgs and highly developed robots. And both main characters have lost their memories. Differences are: 1) Pluto is detective manga, while Gunnm is not. 2) Gunnm's plot setting is in a quite distant future, in the dystopian 26th century. Pluto's plot is in the futuristic 21st century. So, if you like Action, Sci-Fi, Seinen, you should read these.

Great main character.Loveable side characters, great villains. and a unforgetable journey.

Both Grey and Battle Angel Alita portrays a bleak, post apocalyptic future, in which the simple survival is a struggle, and in both of the works as a background is displayed an adittional utopian society.
reportRecommended by Tyrraell
They are both about the struggles of a main character. Except Alita makes more sense and is shorter.

Holy shit why has no one noticed the similarities yet. I guess this is more present in last order but alita is literally the futuristic version of baki. In gunnm there are tons of tournaments and fights are always explained in detail. Just like baki which is centres around the same thing. Also both mangas go in depth with ‘fight science’ during battles, techniques are explained in detail and how it effects the body how it is performed etc. Most of the dialogue is also incredibly similar to baki, they usually hype up the fighting using specific techniques like for example ‘having a bystander wet their pants at  read more

Both Black Cat and Battle Angel Alita are about bounty hunters. Both main characters are not interested in money (something that sets them apart from other characters). Both Train and Alita have had experience fighting before becoming bounty hunters. (Train being a former assassin. Alita not knowing who she is but having great skill in marshal arts.) Both Train and Alita have a friend that they live with who worked as a bounty hunter longer then them. However, Train and Sven usually work together, while Alita and Ido prefer to work solo. Also, both series have a special café/bar for bounty hunters where the main  read more

despite this being basically, dororos version of PLUTO. it somehow feels almost exactly like the beginning parts of the original gunnm series, both the harrowing gritty environment to the slice and dice swift melee to gun combat between multiple cyborg bodies clashing and often ending up in pieces, it really feels like im reading an alt universe alita manga.

Do you think that floating city, The Sphere, looks a bit familiar? Well, that's because of Zalem of course! In terms of setting, Gachiakuta and Gunnm/Alita have a lot in common - a floating city of elites towering over a dystopian wasteland, buried in the endless trash of the other world above them. In both cases, the MCs have the ambition to reach the city in the sky for different reasons. On a purely technical level, they share plenty in common too. Both have very expressive artstyles that strike an awesome balance of having stylized and exaggerated faces and poses but also having a high standard  read more

It's similar since it's the continuation of the Series, just with a lot more gore and violence. Last Order has Gally remember her Origins and discover more of her past. It is the perfect depiction of the Cyberpunk genre outside of the colorful neon light filled cities, since it's gritty and dark through and through.

Despite one being a cyberpunk themed manga and the other a classic super robot mecha series, they have surprisingly similar mechanical designs, which results in a fairly similar visual feeling. They are also action packed sci-fi that become more polished and focused as both series goes on.

Both have post-apocalyptic themes Both have robots Both have detailed great art Both have existential myths

The world is in ruin: street gangs and guerrilas straight out from Kenshiro roam the land, there are scraps and deserts just about everywhere and it's much like living on Pandora, except no one finds these Borderlands so funny. On the contrary, we have lonely female heroes dealing with both major dramatic stories and side events, which serve either as world building or establishing characters, combined with beautiful sci-fi and cyberpunk imagery.
reportRecommended by Valefor
The female cyborg can be read as a vivid metaphor; the self-willed woman moulded by social machinery, and forced into a role for the purposes of others. In another sense, the ultimate warrior women are cut off from the 'natural' roles of parent, lover or wife. Although Alita has somewhat more freedom to search for her role than the Gunslinger Girls, both of these series use cyborgs to say a lot about freedom, identity and fighting, albeit in very different settings. Crazed cyberpunk, or convincing counter-terrorism, what's your poison?

Both Inuyashiki and Gunnm (Battle Angel Alita) feature machines that look like humans. Both manga deal with themes of what it means to be human and not artificial. They are also both action-packed manga filled with violence, blood and gore. If you like one, you will enjoy the other.

I do not even get how anybody else thought something else is more similar than these two. A lot of the basic character art and setting art are extremely similar, and the world concept seems pretty clearly inspired by Battle Angel.

Gunnm and Damned both take place in a dystopian world which clearly separates people of lower and upper castes. Both feature extreme violence, gruesome decapitation and share similar sci-fi elements, although Gunnm takes that last aspect much further. Damned is a much shorter read and won't confuse you with endless arcs.

Though Alita is a more old-school manga, they both score good points when it comes to good ol’ cyborg on cyborg action.
reportRecommended by Keydan
Both have a lot of action, a lot of gore. Both have the main character risking their lives in death or life competions and fighting the bad guys . In both mangas the story is unraveling little by little and you just can't stop reading.
reportRecommended by just1n0
Both include fighters, who are taking action in a peculiar place. Sci-fi and full of action.
reportRecommended by Kanorin
Excellent cyberpunk world building right from the first chapter. While Gunnm has an extra concept of "distinct societies", the world outside the big city is a dump in both cases. Route 20 doesn't really get violent like Gunnm does... but both feature exposed brains!!!
reportRecommended by denpanosekai
They both share a similar setting: a futuristic world where the main characters are tasked with something similar to bounty hunting. The story of Alita is set in a more apocalyptic and grim world while the one of Dimension W is more peaceful and generally light-hearted, even if it's hinted to be peaceful only on the surface...
reportRecommended by Zeando
While Battle Angel Alita is more action-oriented and softer sci-fi, it's one of the best more mature series dealing with the social implications of technology(human enhancement in Alita, AI in Mirai no Futatsu)
