Oh silly Hotel Manager needs to manage his emotions better.

Seems this show really is keen on keeping the storytelling just in the hotel. Neko stepped it up in her role while others like Ruri got screentime too. There's a bit of mixture between normal and peculiarity. Otherwise, felt like the same as episode 1.

Another interesting and mysterious episode. Neko is doing a good job with the hotel and quests. Her character reminds me of Kurokami no Onna from Death Parede. Maybe something similar is going to happen to her character at some point.

That Hotel Manager is a funny dude.

I like how the Manager is always trying to find a way to avoid doing his work! 😆
Also, am I the only one who thought it was Avu-chan from Queen Bee when I heard the ED?
Maybe I'm the only one who even listened to the ED...

That makes two people she helped to learn their memories, making her a natural at this.

I really like this format they are using and how they are writing the stories.

Neko is such a interesting character.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

Neko is very cute in traditional maid costume.

Tasogare means "who you are" well that suits perfectly.

I watched the ED, maybe it kinda spoiled their past.

But the song was great!
I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Even though Neko is bad at cleaning, she's good at helping guests find their memories. The ED is intriguing and hints at the lives they had before arriving at the hotel, although the other guy from the ED still hasn't shown up.

Anyone else have a gut feeling that the person who might have killed Neko will end up at the hotel? If that happens, it would be very interesting.

I don't think he can survive being buried alive but it's not the point. What really matter is he's ready to face the truth, whatever that truth is...

Somehow the hotel gave me strong Shadows house vibes, i really like the gothic nuances ini this.
I don't like neko voice at first tho, but knowing her character now, i kinda liked her voice cuz it's matches her cat face lol.

Did the Manager mean that if you're an employee of the hotel, it won't give you any hints to help you remember your past ("room service," as the Manager called it)?

So when you become an employee of the hotel, are you stuck there forever? or you can still go back if you remember who you were or what happened to you before?

Hard to imagine he can surivive being buried alive, but if he come out alive.. I hope he can find a way to solve his problem... maybe they thought he's dead so they will just leave him alone?

I like the types of mysteries and the way things are understood and solved. I hope the episode where we learn more about Neko comes soon, since, unlike the hotel guests who usually have their faces hidden by some object, her face is visible.

We know she has a good sense for solving mysteries and that she likes idols and cute things, haha

I liked this episode format they've got going so far with a new guest each time. The ending theme has me curious if we will eventually learn more about the staff who work at the Hotel though since it features their past life.

Something that's strange to me is that Neko seems like a good person, but from episode 1 we can see she was stabbed in the back. This makes me wonder if she was betrayed or something by those three girls we see in the ending theme.

This second episode definitely sold me on adding the series to my list as the second seasonal to confirm continuing and intending to watch in full this season (excluding continuing/returning older shows).

What I like, besides the relaxed and casual atmosphere which prevails inside the hotel and among the staff themselves despite the extraordinary and dire nature of the entire context of their situation (for some of the recent arrivals in particular), is the air of ambiguity and uncertainty hanging over the heads of the guests. It's the perfect luxurious and cozy enough place, I suppose, to take the time they need to try to come to terms with their lives and whichever unique predicament they're faced with and either resign themselves to death and whatever comes after that or rediscover a new will to live.

For the guests who are still living and just in an injured unconscious and/or comatose state or something to that effect, I doubt we will see any follow-up on what happens to them at the moment they return to full consciousness and control of their bodies back on Earth or anything down the line. But I'd be really curious for the buried alive guy in particular, how exactly he's going to get out of it even after he wakes up. He's still surrounded by and encased in dirt - enough that a bulldozer to shovel in more and more earth was used. Now I'm imagining something like the Uma Thurman as The Bride scene in Kill Bill Volume II. And I doubt this guy had grueling martial arts training.

I wonder if that buried alive execution method is actually used in contemporary times in Japan still by yakuza gangsters, loan sharks, and other organized and professional criminals. It's gotten to the point where I've seen it appear in a number of anime now.

The funniest part is that they do have pachinko machines (02:49 of the episode) in the hotel, but such an old model that Neko didn't recognized those...I wouldn't too, but watching one particular Abroad In Japan video (Japan's Biggest Gaming Obsession Explained) helped me here.

This show really goes in a similar direction as Death Parade. Nice atmosphere too...I guess this is the closest thing we will get to Hotel Dusk: Room 215 + Last Window: The Secret of Cape West adaptation.

An interesting pattern with the manager. Some of the employees are humans right? Humans that don't remember their names don't have faces. They call him Manager. Hmmm... I wonder :).

I think that this show really deserves a 7.2 so far, especially when shows like Restaurant to Another World got a 7.4.

I really like this series :3. I loved shows like Mushi-Shi and Natsume's Book of Friends so it makes sense. This is right up my alley :).

Don't even remember how I found this yesterday and why did I decided to watch, but I'm glad I did, this is a "Goodhearted Death Parade". Also, didn't expected another "Cat" detective this season.

But now I wonder... what Neko's face when she arrived represents?
She lacked eyes because she "only has eyes/see" idols?

@Kai200X I've checked it a bit and it says you can survive MAX 5 hours (if you're very lucky mind you) if buried alive.
The gambler guy was certainly there for much longer and is still alive so we can assume this hotel exists beyond time, or maybe 1 day there = 1 min/sec in the world of the living or something?
Yeah, he was buried quite deep and a freaking tractor was used instead of shovels to bury him. I don't know how he can get himself out unless goons did a very bad job.
Anyways, if time is indeed irrelevant in this hotel, Neko can potentially stay there for ages, without worrying about herself in the world of the living (she's likely in coma in hospital).
What confuses me is when manager said "few visitors = peaceful times in the living world". If time in the hotel world flows differently, then there should always be visitors, from past, present and future, no?

But then I remembered "Angel Beats". Character A dies after Character B died, but when Character B arrives in the school which is like this hotel, Character A (from the future) was already there long before Character B arrived. Meaning, people from different time can gather there. Despite this, school wasn't crowded by kids from different timeliness so figuring out how this works may be tricky.

@zbikk Not sure if you knew yet but if you want to play the game, the mobile version is still playable, it's an inferior version of the game tho but it's still good enough. I also hope we get the PC remake translated but it's been years already......

Disappointed in this episode. There wasn't any complexity to the investigation or the guy's story. Buried alive gambling is pretty serious stuff, but we don't get much more than it happened. It's aggressively lighthearted to suggest he might get back home from that. The episode would have made a lot more sense to me if it ended with some sort of indication Neko could pick up on that he actually moved on to death no matter his intent, but I guess it's not that kind of show. Still hoping for some decent mysteries. Wouldn't be surprised if the whole yellow eyed Neko thing is actually another mask, for example.

Somehow, this episode is worse than the previous one. First of all, there’s no mystery like everything is obvious. The guy’s story is pretty boring, the pacing is weird, and the characters aren’t interesting at all. These games adaptations are such a hit or miss, but I think the problem lies in the source material.

Yay the photo frames at the end of the OP get updated ohhh I look forward to it being completed. The ED is very cute as well seeing them in their daily life and casual clothes

The contrast of Atori treating Neko as a guest and as a coworker is funny haha. He is strict. Ruri seems to be a fan of him, so cute! What exactly do they receive as payment though? Also I wonder what Neko looked like when she arrived? Atori seemed startled by it.

I teared up at the end with the hotel guest finally being able to listen to his mother's voice. But thinking he can still survive from being buried alive is quite an optimistic thought. I imagine though that if he does survive, maybe he'll lie low/watch over his mom for some time then reveal that he's still alive much later to lessen the possibility of the loan sharks hounding his mom too.

Thoughts related to the mobile game:
