Troublemakers get their punishment lol. Not going to lie, some of the first half of the episode involving the principal was awkward.

We also got a segment featuring Ran in the garden tending to flowers. But of course, this anime adds supernatural elements by giving them ability to speak. Mendou is also keeping himself busy around town.

The rumor flowers are back. Get your torches everyone.

Ataru, Lum, Mendo, Shinobu, and Ryunosuke find themselves tasked with cleaning the principal's office as a consequence of their frequent mischief. While cleaning with each facing a wall, they hear a noise, "Baki!" Turning around, they discover the principal lying on his back with a bump on his head under a kotatsu. Meanwhile, Ran waters flowers outside the spaceship. Lum and Ten fly over, but notice Ran has a bandage on her mouth. The flower, Ryugenvillea, that Ran waters, is beautiful yet terrifying. Later, Onsen Mark, his head and arm bandaged, and his body injured, visits the Moroboshi family, only to collapse at their entrance despite his efforts to reach them.

Lmao, Ataru, Mendo, and Ryunosuke really don't like Onsen-Mark. They made him think he was the culprit. I feel sorry for Onsen-Mark. He doesn't deserve this. They should let him teach another class. I can't believe the dude got knocked out by an egg though lol. Oooooh I remember the flower episode from the OG. I think there were stormtroopers, but where did they go? It was still funny without them. Poor Mendo, now Shinobu thinks he wets the bed because of those flowers. Teachers calling students on a Sunday is rude, right? I'd be mad like Ataru. Onsen-Mark went to Ataru's house for conferences, but he didn't get to talk to anyone this time.

Only one visit left, and Lum's 'house' will be the toughest yet.

Tomobiki literally means "friend pull", but apparently the origin is much deeper. Please check out "Tomobiki" on the Urusei Yatsura wiki.
10:55 "It is a trope in Japanese police films: that suspects will speak the truth with tears when they have eaten katsudon and are asked, "Did you ever think about how your mother feels about this?" Even nowadays, the gag of "We must eat katsudon while interrogating" is popular in Japanese films. However, as of 2019, police will never actually feed suspects during interrogation." Source: Wikipedia.

So I guess the third part will not get a proper conclusion. But it was funny.
There is a after credits! I actually feel bad for Onsen, I hope he gets to eat at Lum's place lol.

This anime is very creative considering that it was written decades ago.

I always consider the home visit segment as a waste of time, but maybe things will change in the next episode?

Bit weird that they replayed the recap/introductory scene again at the start of this episode but ok.

After a series of straight bangers, I suppose this episode takes a bit of a backseat. It's more of a comedy-focused episode which I think is good for a breather.

The first segment of the episode is an adaptation of a manga chapter that wasn't adapted before. Gotta say, loved it. But I'm not sure if the deformed facial expressions were intentional...

Loved the second segment of the episode too. You know the episode is going to get wacky if Ran is involved lol. It's also cute that Ran and Lum made a truce and worked together for once. Even if it was temporary.

Although it was a good adaptation, the best joke of the original anime's adaptation is missing here sadly. It's the scene where a ryugenvilia flower lands on Chibi's feet saying "elementary school student" and the rest of Lum's stormtroopers think he's a lolicon... That bit was hilarious.

The third segment was the fourth part of The Home Visit Blues which they adapted as a post-credits scene again. Poor Onsen Mark. Even though he's an asshole who forces students to go to school on a Sunday, I still pity him. The next part is going to be in the next episode. Can't wait to see the conclusion.

Three segments again for the next episode. Excited for all of them.

However, it's a bit weird that in the next episode, we'll get adaptations of "Love Darling in Danger!" and "Foxes in the Moonlit Night" stories. I won't say much about them but I think it would've been better if both of those episodes were placed before the first Inaba episode "Open the Door."

I'm pretty sure that the next episode is probably going to be the last episode of the Winter 2024 season. They might go on a break in the week after that.

We got another unadapted chapter for the first half of this episode featuring a murder mystery situation with the principal as the victim, except he was merely bonked on the head and not dead lol. This led to some fun scenes of what could have happened to lead to the principal being knocked out, and it ended up coming back on Onsen and the students actually gaslit him into admitting he did it, although he didn’t actually as it was revealed that the principal actually knocked himself out when he tried using his head to crack an egg, of course what actually happened is sillier then the made up ones but that’s Urusei Yatsura for you lol. This was a fun bit but I wonder how the original would’ve managed to make this one into a single episode, that would have been interesting, maybe that’s why it wasn’t adapted tho lol.

And the 2nd half being about the gossiping flowers was fun, I remember some hilarious moments in the OG version of this one but without Lum’s stormtroopers it means we missed out on the lolicon joke, but we fortunately still got the Mendou bed wetting joke which is still pretty funny, I only wish Ataru called him “piss boy” like he did before lol. Of course it’s also nice getting more Ran as there aren’t too many episodes left, so I’ll take any content on favorite characters of mine that I can. And lastly we got another part to the home visits in the after credits, this time Onsen may have actually had a decent visit if he could actually make it through the doorway lol, and looks like next time is the finale for these short bits so I’m looking forward to it, while I would have preferred them as one episode they have worked decently as after credits scenes.

Wasn’t expecting a detective mystery in my weekly UY episode lol. Nice change of pace after the more serious last couple episodes. Poor Onsen sensei admitting to a crime that he didn’t commit thanks to the “tomobiki” trope used in Japanese detective series and movies.

Basically the trick is to give a suspect a bowl of Katsudon and gaslight him into confessing. Similar to the American trope of giving a suspect food/cigarettes to make them comfortable. Of course, it’s all the more funny when you realise the principal knocked himself out and Onsen and the kids were innocent 😂

Second half of the episode is honestly the most I’ve laughed watching this show. The ideas that Takahashi sensei was able to come up with back in the 80s never cease to amaze me. The concept of flowers that can parrot anything you say and spread like literal wildfire is so cool lol and with this cast is a set up for a hilarious scenario.

Lum shot herself in the foot by giving Ran the idea to spread gossip about her using them. All it takes is one to get loose for the entire town to go up in metaphorical flames. Mendo fighting the bed wetting allegations had me 😭 that’s the best job his seiyuu’s done. Then the whole town showing up to the school because they thought the flower was forcing em to go. Comedic gold.

Onsen sensei in space next episode? Can’t wait to see this

Awesome episode.

It's interesting that they'd adapt the murder mystery Principal chapter only because I remember finding it just okay and since this is almost certainly not gonna be a complete adaptation I'd probably have skipped it in favor of some others, but we'll see. As far as the gossip flowers are concerned I could have sworn they already adapted that chapter long ago, but I was probably getting it mixed up in my mind with the version from the original series.

i loved the first part of the episode, a classic who dunnit but very unserious lol i kinda wish they made that a whole episodes worth. reminded me of 'memories of murder' with that investigation, and they even got the teacher to confess lmfao peak detectives right there.
i don't remember watching the first part in the 80s version so i'm guessing it wasn't adapted, but i definitely remember seeing the second part of the episode with the gossip flowers. good to see ran again lol.

Yeah, that surprised me quite a bit too. The story itself is pretty funny, but not the "OMG, I've waited 39 years for this to be adapted"-kind of funny. The classic "Whodunit" story, with funny alternative versions.

Thanks for pointing it out. Interesting fact, I didn't knew that.

I really liked the flower story, in keeping with the beginning of spring today. I like little stories that have a simple idea (like the talking flowers here) and then develop into different variations. Takahashi's humor ist just timeless. Almost after 40 years of the chapter's first publication in Shonen Sunday, a whole new generation can still laugh about it.

Stories with Ran are always good for a laugh - how she always warms up old stories the childhood.
The scenario involving Mendo's octopus carriage and the shocked Shinobu also got a laugh.

The picnic scene at the end was really cute too.

Yeah, Ibana came a little early. I would have expected him in the middle or even at the end of the season. I might also have placed today's lighthearted episode between the more serious episodes of the last few weeks to get a more balanced picture.

Nevertheless, two nice episodes in between.

After very strong episodes back to back, this one is much a weaker one I would say. Great gaslit technique to confess you are the culprit lol. The first part is quite amusing with its detective story. I remember the second part with gossiping flowers was one of the funniest episode back in the original with some hilarious facial expressions ever. the funniest joke with lolicon chibi and Mendou turns to zombie was there and it was really nuts with how much stuff they add back then. The second part was alright and straightforward adaptation. Well lucky for Onsen Mark, he could finally rest easy for his student conference when he visit Lum's parents. More Ran in next week episode with pretty good Atalum moment is always welcomed and Kitsune's part was pretty heartwarming.

I thought for sure that the Inaba episodes would be the last episodes of this cour. It's strange that they decided to broadcast them early. And so the last 2 episodes of the cour aren't as strong as they should be. If they placed the Inaba episodes near the end, they would've made a strong seasonal/cour finale.

The episode ordering in the Remake has been pretty strange so far. If it was up to me, I would've modified the episode order a lot.

The principal and his escort the giant cat lol. Thats quite the wrecked classroom to walk into. And quite the mystery as well. Loved the detective skit though. The Vireya sure were unique. Flowers that can mimic one's voice and spread gossip huh that sounds annoying. As was catching them if they break free. Thats one way of putting the octo's to work i guess. Scary how much chaos the flowers can cause though. The home visits though sure look exhaustingly brutal.

Hah, a recap of the school events, now featuring the principal when Onsen couldn't handle the pressure. But the principal being knocked out of commission, it's playing Cluedo in action to see who is at fault. With no alibis, theoretically no one can prove their innocence and speculate on whatever caused the incident. And the one most tragic is Onsen himself, who feels like he's threatened by Ataru and the rest to confess his crime. All it literally boils to...is the principal's boiled egg that was eaten by the cat, but Onsen...sad, sad Onsen.

Ran making some flowers: the Vireya Gossipendrons, it'll end up being a rumour device if used improperly, though Lum coming in to disrupt her progress...it doesn't stop the flower petals from spreading around on Ataru and the rest with the weird petals. Also going, going to school on a Sunday, thats quite bad, and to make matters worse, the flowers all have their assortment of rumours. For Lum and Ran, their problem...thankfully doesn't get big, though in the outside world, it's the otherwise.

Onsen's home visitation troubles aren't over with the Moroboshi family, and thankfully, he got a break...or not. The last of which is Lum's in space...how would he fare for the finale?

Such a crazy episode, but tons of fun.

We got quite the mystery for the first half of the episode. I was honestly expecting either the cat KO'd the principal or he did it to himself, glad it was the latter.

In the second half, Lum and Ran get into trouble. Mendo most affected by their shenanigans!

Episode 11 - it consists of 2 parts, the second part is the 135 series in the original anime, unfortunately I can't remember about 1.
