PART 1 : CLUB INTRODUCTION

　You pull the flyer from your inventory and look it over. It's a summary of information on the Anime Watching Challenges Club, MAL Bunkasai, and a brief list of instructions. You see that by following along you'll start earning an AWCc Booth Bunkasai ticket. Spotting an All Might decal on the side of the terminal encouraging you to go "Plus Ultra," you settle in to cover the basics of how the AWCc challenges work.

　— How To: Visit the main page of this club here. On the right side, below the club's picture, press "Join Club". It will take you to a new page to confirm you want to join, press the "Join Club" button. It will redirect you to the club's main page. (Alternatively, just click here.) To leave, do the same. It will appear as "Leave Club".
[X] Making a post in this forum thread.
　— The first step of every watching challenge is to make a post indicating your participation. Using the "New reply" button, type some text like "placeholder" or "reserved," then submit it.
[X] Adding the challenge code to your post.
　— Every challenge has a BBcode snippet that helps you track your progress. This code guides you in filling out the requirements for a challenge and lets the club's inspectors efficiently check your entry when it's complete. Scroll down to the next post and open up the "Sign Up Code" spoiler button to reveal the challenge BBcode snippet. Select all of the text in the code window and copy it. Then edit the post you just made (by clicking the "Quick Edit" button at the bottom left side of your post), then replace your initial text with the challenge code from your clipboard. On mobile, press the three dots (ellipsis; " ... ") at the bottom of your post, then press "Edit post". Submit to save your changes.

　— Club members are strongly encouraged to have a forum set! You can set your signature and avatar on this page. Most members use an avatar image of a favorite character. Some members choose text-based signatures. Others use images. If you'd like a pre-built signature, there is an AWCc signature thread here.
[X] Having your "About Me" page on MAL with something... about you.
　— By navigating here and scrolling to the "My Details" area, you can type a little bit about yourself. For example, you might tell other MAL users what anime you enjoy, when you started watching, or what you're excited about that is coming up in the Fall '23 season—whatever you want others to know about you! Alternatively, use one of the many available About Me Designs.

PART 2 : CHALLENGE BASICS

　Confident that you've managed to cover orienting yourself on MAL and with the AWCc, you lean back from the terminal for a moment and scan the crowded booth. A couple of Anya Forger cosplayers run in circles near a Loid and Yor. A few groups have formed nearby, each engaged in animated discussions. You catch a variety of accents and languages beyond the inevitable mix of Japanese and English.

　You summon up the pamphlet given to you by the dragon and unfold it. Skimming through it, you see the paper is covered in directives and explanations related to filling out watching challenges. The conversations and energetic cosplayers fade into comforting walla as you settle back into the terminal and begin to plug away at these new requirements.

[X] Obtain at least 3 different event tickets at MAL Bunkasai.
　— There will be several events hosted at MAL Bunkasai. Participate in at least 3 different ones (not counting this event) and share your tickets here. If it was a forum event, link your post as well.
[X] Link one of your favorite completed anime.
　— Search for a series you previously completed and enjoyed the most (an old favorite or a recent watch). In the BBcode, replace the "00000" with the MAL number of your chosen anime and "SERIES" with its Main Title, as listed at the top of its entry. The number and (URL-friendly) name make up the URL for an anime, so if I wanted to watch https://myanimelist.net/anime/38412/Qing_Chi_Hong_Xiaodou_Ba the MAL number of the series would be 38412 and the main title would be "Qing Chi Hong Xiaodou Ba!". My edited code would look like this:

[X] Link to an anime you have not finished and want to watch during Bunkasai, which is at least 15 minutes long.
　— Using MAL, look for an anime you are interested in but have not finished (it can be a previously started one). This can be any type of anime, so long as it is a minimum of 15 minutes in total length—the usual minimum length for anime in our challenges. In the BBcode, replace the "00000" with the MAL number of your chosen anime and "SERIES" with its Main Title, as listed at the top of its entry.
[X] Watch your chosen anime during the Bunkasai or the AWCc event period that follows.
　— For each challenge in our club, an anime must be added to your list with the following mandatory information: completed status, start date, and end date. Additional information such as tags and notes are not mandatory but may help you track a variety of things. When inspecting challenges, staff and helpers may invalidate (mark for review/replacement) any anime that has the wrong status or lacks start and end dates. At the core, accurately recording your anime means: 1) adding it to your anime list, 2) adding a start date when the first episode is watched, 3) updating your progress consistently, and 4) changing its status to complete and adding an end date. Following this flow makes it much less likely your entries will be invalidated.
[X] Watch another participant's favorite anime.
　— From the people that have posted on this thread, check their post and look for the item that asked about your favorite anime. Use something that you haven't seen before. State here the anime used, their username and link their post. Link the series as we did before. Replace "LINK" with their post link and "USER" with their name. Taking a screenshot is suggested in case the member you use decided to change their series after you completed it.
[X] Watch two series from the AWCc Recommendations Stack.
　— AWCc members routinely recommend anime to each other—this stack is full of recommendations in honor of Bunkasai! Our Discord offers the infamous Wheel Cult—a chance for members to put their finger on the scales of fate to help a spin land on an anime they want to see get more attention. Members also use our Discord to get anime recs, clarify challenge requirements, and gain assistance finding anime that match challenges they're working on.

PART 3 : DIY-CHALLENGE

　A while later you find yourself back at the booth. Having successfully chosen an anime and completed it—and enjoyed checking others' progress—the virtual space feels a little bit more like a home away from home. You scan the tables and spot new staff helping visitors and socializing with other members. A schoolgirl avatar from Bakemonogatari is helping orient visitors to the club. A bespectacled, shadowy figure is tapping at an access panel next to the scoreboard. The little bean is behind a table now, offering guidance on choosing an anime and directing festival-goers to the next schedule.

　At the last table, you spot a Dazai avatar, bandages drooping, handing out forms with their multipart checklists. You take a deep breath and produce yours from the nullspace of your inventory. It's longer than the flyer or pamphlet, but it looks like you'll have a choice of just how deeply you want to delve into the club's primary activity. It all starts with making a plan, so you grab a free terminal (complete with Code Geass cockpit stylings) and get started.

　You've moved into the main part of our event now—choosing your challenge parameters and matching anime to requirements. Remember: you're not required to watch any of these anime during Bunkasai if you don't want to. (Depending on your choices, you might not have the time!) Instead, this challenge is about planning for the watching challenge that will open up in the club after Bunkasai is over. If you manage to complete it before then, you will be allowed to just repost it.

　As we offer a wide variety of challenges, this event has been designed to let you pick which things you're interested in. There are 11 different sets of requirements that make up the challenge. You will choose between 2, 4, 6, or 8 sets to complete. In each set, you must complete 3 of the 4 requirements to receive a completion credit. When filling out your challenge, simply remove any sets and requirements you will not be using. You may plan out any difficulty you choose—even if you decide to watch and turn in a different one later.

RULES

Difficulties:
Easy: 2 sets, for 6 items in total
Medium: 4 sets, for 12 items in total
Hard: 6 sets, for 18 items in total
Conquered: 8 sets, for 24 items in total
　— There are extra requirements, you only need to do those required by your difficulty.
　— Only one difficulty should be completed and turned-in.
　— No second run (x2) available.
Previously completed series aren't allowed. Neither is re-watching.
　— Series previously started, but not finished, may be used.
　— Airing can be used, but you must complete the series, so you can only turn-in the challenge after the series has finished airing.
Any type is allowed, but must be equal to or longer than 15 minutes (total).
　— Unless otherwise stated.
The start date is the same for everyone (Sep 18, 2023), so if you joined late but have completed anime during this period, you can use it.
　— In the club we require that members add the start and end dates on your anime list for any anime used for our challenges.
You cannot use the same entry more than once across all parts.
You must remove any unused item or set.
These rules also apply to the anime to be watched on Part 2.

SETS LISTING (find anime that fits the criteria, you can watch after Bunkasai ends)

01. AIRED SET
　This challenge family pushes our members to watch anime from specific years, by eras, or through entire timelines. It is home to the infamous Ultimate Challenge, which demands watching an anime from every season possible to-date.
　— The series used for this set must be: (1) a TV type of any length, (2) any type with 10 episodes or more (of any duration) or (3) any type with 4 episodes or more (20 minutes or more per episode).

[X] Watch an anime that started airing in Winter
　— Began airing during the following months: January, February or March.
[X] Watch an anime that started airing in Spring
　— Began airing during the following months: April, May or June.
[X] Watch an anime that started airing in Summer
　— Began airing during the following months: July, August or September.
[X] Watch an anime that started airing in Fall
　— Began airing during the following months: October, November or December.

02. FRANCHISES SET
　When you want to focus on the most prolific of all anime entities, the Franchises challenges will test your mettle. This is where all those hours spent watching Dragon Ball, Sailor Moon, or One Piece pay off.
　— The available franchises are: Cardfight!!, Detective Conan, Digimon, Dragon Ball, Fate/Type Moon, Gintama, Gundam, Lupin, Macross, Naruto, One Piece, Pokemon, Precure, Prince of Tennis, Sailor Moon, Tenchi Muyou!, Transformers, and Yu-Gi-Oh. If you're having trouble determining what a franchise anime is, these challenges can each be found in the Franchises section of the AWCc landing page or our Hall of Fame.

[X] Watch a Franchise Special or OVA
[X] Watch a Franchise Movie
[X] Watch a Franchise anime with 2 episodes or more

03. CREATORS SET
　This category is focused on bringing attention to those behind the anime we love. From production blocks like noitaminA to creative groups like CLAMP; and from voice actors to directors, writers, creators, and animators—these challenges are all about what powers our beloved medium.

[X] Watch an anime from the Animeism or noitaminA block
　— Must appear listed.
[X] Watch an anime that has a character voiced by a Top 100 Seiyuu
　— State the Voice Actor/Actress used. The character used can appear listed as main or supporting character.
[X] Watch an anime from a Studio or Producer with a name that begins with the letter "A", "W" or "C"
　— State the Studio or Producer used.
[X] Watch an anime from the same Director that made one of your favorite anime
　— State both the Director's name and which of the favorite anime from your MAL profile they are listed as a director on; They can be any kind of Director (general, animation, episode, sound, etc.) and must be listed in any Director position in the staff section of the anime you watch.

04. STUDIOS SET
　Challenges oriented at helping members to watch anime from some of the biggest players around belong to this category. Giants like A-1 Pictures and Madhouse are featured, while smaller studios like feel. and Tatsunoko Production aren't left behind.
　— Since these are list based challenges, you will only need to watch a series from our featured studios. The studios used must appear credited for the anime used. All studios you choose to use must be different. If you're having trouble determining which Studios are featured, these challenges can each be found in the Studios section of the AWCc landing page or our Hall of Fame.

05. GENRES SET
　There is no better category than this one to help members focus on deep dives into the different genres of anime out there. From Military to Romance, Fantasy to Sports, and Action to School, there's a Genre that appeals to everyone. (Do note that those featured were selected before MAL's overhaul and inclusion of new themes.)
　— "Tags" in this section will encompass genres, themes, and demographics.

[X] Watch an anime that has only 2 or 3 tags listed
[X] Watch an anime that has 4 or more tags listed
[X] Watch an anime with a tag that matches a tag on one of your MAL favorite anime

06. THEMES SET
　The Themes family showcases an array of prominent topics and the variety of anime that utilize them as a driving force in their execution. This is where GAR anime meets Cyberpunk; it's the category for otherworldly Isekai and down-to-Earth Iyashikei; and the spot where Time Travel and World Tour intersect.
　— For the following themes, you are required to watch an anime that appears listed on either theme. State the one used.

[X] Watch a Battle Royale or GAR anime
[X] Watch a Cyberpunk or Steampunk anime
[X] Watch a Mafia or Superhero anime
[X] Watch a Post-Apocalyptic or Time Travel anime

07. CHARACTERS SET
　The Characters category dares you to explore all manner of beings across diverse anime—not every protagonist is your typical teenager, after all! Our favorite characters let us live out our dreams vicariously and serve as a source of inspiration and admiration.
　— The characters used must appear listed on the series used. There must be evidence of their age. Said evidence can be on their characters' profile page, aniDB or Anime-Planet.

[X] Watch an anime with only children/teens as the main cast
　— Every character listed as Main is 19 years old or younger.
[X] Watch an anime with only adults as the main cast
　— Every character listed as Main is 20 years old or older.
[X] Watch an anime with an approved Mascot in it
　— Only use mascots that appear listed.
[X] Watch an anime with characters that are family
　— State the characters used. Family relationships refer to characters that have one or more of the following relationships with another: Parent, spouse, daughter/son, sibling, aunt/uncle, niece/nephew, cousin, grand-(mother/father/child/etc), great-grand-etc. For more information, see here.

08. TYPES SET
　When working on Types challenges, members branch out from anime TV series to embrace the wide variety of formats out there. This exposes you to different kinds of storytelling while also rewarding you for diving deep by watching side stories, films, and recaps from your favorites.

　— Must appear listed.
[X] Watch 5 Music videos
　— Music type anime is different than those only tagged with the Music Theme. Find them here.
[X] Watch an ONA or TV-series with episodes that are 15 minutes or less each
　— Must have more than one episode AND still be equal to or longer than 15 minutes (total).
[X] Watch an OVA or Special related to something you previously watched
　— State the previously watched series. It must be related to something watched before September 2023. It should appear listed under "Related Anime".

09. STATISTICS SET
　With the Statistics challenges, members are pitted against the best and worst of what anime has to offer in Top 100 and Scum. Ratings, broadcast times, duration...if it can be tracked, we track and watch it.

[X] Watch a TV-type anime Broadcasted between 20:00 and 23:00 JST
　— The "Broadcast" time in the Information section of the entry must match the requirement.
[X] Watch an anime that has between 3 and 9 episodes
　— The total amount of episodes for the entry must be within range. They can't be more or less.
[X] Watch an anime which appears on an AWCc Top listing
　— The listings are: the Top 50 Anison, Top 100, Top 100 Movies, Top 100 ONAs, and the NHK Top 100 challenges.
[X] Watch an anime which appears on an AWCc Scum listing
　— The listings are: the Scum of the Scum, Movie Scum, ONA Scum, OVA Scum, Special Scum, and the TV Scum challenges.

10. MISCELLANEOUS SET
　A catch-all category of challenges, Miscellaneous is defined by flexibility. You can just as easily watch anime that has been adapted to Live Action as you can dive into Staff Favorites.
　— The anime used must appear on the provided listings. If there are listing options, state the one used.

11. COLLECTIONS SET
　The Sets family of challenges is all about patterns, searching, and puzzles. These matched challenges offer members a chance to engage in a Scavenger Hunt for obscure moments in anime, or complete a rigorous collection of Numbers-related entries.

[X] Watch a TV-type anime where the broadcast is "Unknown"
　— The "Broadcast" in the entry's Information section must read "Unknown", not a day of the week.
[X] Watch an anime that began airing during September, of any day/year
[X] Watch an anime with the number one or two in the main title
　— The Arabic numerals "1" and "2", the Roman numerals "I" and "II", the English words "one/first" and "two/second", and the Japanese words "ichi" and "ni" are all valid for this requirement. The word can stand alone or as part of another.
[X] Watch an anime where the word "festival", or "club" appears in the title or synopsis
