Vanitas and Jeanne had some cute chemistry this episode. Jeanne in particular showed a lot of emotions lol

On a more serious note is the presence of vampire Chloe this episode. Imo, she's one of the most mysterious characters this season. And lol, Noe wasn't prepared for Chloe at all.

Whew whew, Vanitas and Jeanne almost naked in front of the fireplace? What gives???

Vanitas barely escaped scotfree with the fight against Astolfo and the Beast of Gévaudan, and being poisoned meant that he couldn't live long. Good thing that Jeanne found him and saved him for now, bringing him to a makeshift cottage and stripping him down to take care of his body.

Why does Jeanne feel like it's her fault? Simple: her history in Gévaudan with her master Marquis Lord Ruthven, and the hidden vampire Chloé d'Apchier, the talking doll whom transfigured into the Beast. As a bourreau, Jeanne is ordered to slay her, but the connections prove otherwise that Vanitas is aiming for the same thing. Want to kill, but a kiss first for recovery, what a scene she caused subconsciously for almost controlling him enitrely. That was such a comedic and cute moment.

Well, glad that both Johann and Dante are reunited, what's left is Noé...which his predicament is worse than anyone would've imagined: the Silver Witch having his Book...and some betrayal from the dhampir assistants? The short answer is Chloé herself, but the long answer is that the course of answers has them at loggerheads in their objective and pursuit.

As expected, Noé got captured by Chloé, and her guardian Jean-Jacques is such a comical character whose jealousy fills in when it concerns her, and a fine fellow when otherwise. But to encounter a party of automatons that feels like the Charlatan, Chloé is everything trouble.

The story of Chloé, the Beast of Gévaudan is a lot deeper in intrigue.

Alright, the first episode was more of a disconnect for me but this one's got me back in, even while this wasn't an action-packed or complex episode by any means. The comedy had its iffy moments in the second half with Chloe and Jean-Jacques but didn't feel as heavy in amount overall as the first episode. The pacing generally was slower and better, and Jeanne and Vanitas' interactions and chemistry in the first half was really good. Seeing Jeanne take the initiative like that to help him out after what happened in the previous episode with him falling ill and wounded while protecting her, revealing some of her past to him while disrobed in front of the fireplace and helping him recover to the point of kissing him to feed him medicine. It was finely paced and showed Jeanne's progression nicely. Even had fun seeing her go bonkers with everything after the fact only to see Vanitas act normally towards her by the end, even though he did show a more vulnerable side to her while sick which was kind of refreshing. A good reminder to why she's my favorite character in the manga too from early on.

Tons of work is to be done though as the book isn't with Vanitas himself now. At least he's back on his feet now to start with. The mystery surrounding Chloe and her guardian only builds further too here after Noe was captured.

The premiere was an awkward way to restart the series after a 3 month break and would fit better if it was just airing after episode 12 directly won't lie with the excessive comedy and shit already kicking off in a weirdly paced manner for an episode after a few months, but this one was slower but did a good job in bringing me back to the swing of things with this series in a better manner. I thought this was a fine episode overall with a strong first half.

Oh well that was a bit too intimate, but all good, also Jeanne being the instigator makes this even more better.

But on the other hand, feel like Noé's got surrounded by some not so familiar faces.

Ahaha Jeanne was actually so cute like that with Vanitas... that was a kiss, even though it was for the water (xD) though Noé is in a very bad situation, I hope that they'll be able to save him soon, the environment was really creepy :S

This was a much better episode than the premiere, which was clumsy to kick things back up and stuff was kinda all over the place. The pacing was much more comfortable here and while the fanservice was quite the highlight here (nice cheesing with the transfer between Jeanne and Vanitas lol), it didn't necessarily downplay the episode. I remember Jeanne being a very notable and likable character early on at least manga-wise. Meanwhile, Noe got his hands tied right now with some hella amusing complexes. Interesting to see how the anime will handle this part next week.

A great episode once again. However, they didnt try to capture the errie atmosphere from the manga at all....(when chloe and naenia came up..)
They did a great job with vanitas though.
Looking forward to the skipped dialouge between dante and vanitas about daciphers...

Well i just hope they deliver the important scenes with great credibility for the most part...in the next episodes(which they seem to do with this adaptation..)

I think it was a decent episode.

To begin with, I believe they added a bit more chibi than the original... which is honestly a bit annoying to me. Other than that, the only thing that felt off was the tone, which, for the most part, felt a bit too light-hearted (which I think just comes from the space and time the comedy takes up). However, all of this comes from me comparing it to the manga, which I'm biased towards. So hopefully anime-only watchers have a whole different impression.

As for what I liked: the cabin scene was well made, and I really enjoyed the conversation between Vanitas, Dante and Johann. Vanitas was easily the best part of this episode to me, and I think the voice actor did an excellent job displaying his character.

I'm looking forward to the future episodes, and I will pray that they do certain scenes justice!

Oolala we're in la la land baby! First and foremost, Jeanne found Vanitas laying unconscious and the winter atmosphere feels breezy and oh boy Jeanne has the audacity to tell Vanitas to undress while Vanitas constantly refused to and Jeanne seems to be showing a strong feminine side of her instead of her totally being a shy one, it eventually ended up Vanitas fainting and it's getting steamy with all the moments between Vanitas and Jeanne > the ship is sailing drastically and I mean it with no joke because we witness that both of them are tight in one blanket and watching the campfire, I feel like a proud person when seeing this moment since I've been shipping them from the very beginning ;) While at that moment they were talking about Chloe's character and relation with Jeanne while we get a beginning of Jeanne's backstory that's finally getting adopted baby! Her interaction with Chloe was like siblings to me, also that kiss when Chloe was drinking Vanitas made my day better, I just love the chemistry between them. Lol Johan is worried that Dante disappeared and Jeanne seeing Vanitas is like a proud wife that her husband is safe and sound but she realized that she did something steamy with Vanitas :) Lol Jeanne trying to pull up a way to sound like her original self to Vanitas and mission failed when Vanitas went back to normal :P Eyy Dante and Johan finally found each other and they act like actual bros but it was too adorable for a witness xD, Marco's entrance is so hilarious while Astoflo looks like he's in tragedy. Dang Vanitas pulling up the knife for Dante to spill all the information while Johan is going absolute madman, anyways the Beast of Gevaudan is something I need to take closer into because it has been mentioned for several times and Jeanne is being controlled to not be able to say things that'll cause burden. Chloe sucking Noe's blood is one naughty Chloe but I still prefer Dominique's sucking Noe :P Jean was able to stop Chloe eventually and of course he's jealous over Now or any other man getting sucked by Chloe :P, Murr is back getting mad as heck and Jean seems a nice bodyguard of Chloe. I wonder how Vanitas and the rest of the groupies going to save Noe next episode! Also this was less action packed episode but more of a romantic ambience and a bit of getting to know Chloe and the Beast of Gevauden, also it looks really cool seeing the automated instruments as their head replacement in the table, whoever is doing that part did brilliantly for this adaptation of the 2nd cour.

I've been eagerly waiting for the cabin scene ever since I've read it after the first season, it didn't disappoint. The first episode was pretty good, but it was definitely a weird and chaotic way to start a season, well I guess I blame the split cour for that, but this episode was slower which is great.

Also was waiting for that Johann scene, dude was pissed. Jeanne is an adorable cinnamon roll as always. Really looking forward to the next episode.

As a few have already remarked upon, vastly prefer this second episode of season two/cour two to the last episode.

This series works a lot better for me when it slows down a bit and allows the more intimate character-centric moments, especially between two or three characters at most at one time, to properly steep.

I even felt the chibi breakaway segments and comedic timing and small bits were better utilized and more seamless this episode. This episode one thing flowed into the other so well. It felt like a hot mug of tea and I felt right there alongside them in that windswept cabin refuge. I could have watched an 1 1/2 hours easily like a short movie length and when the episodes feel this flowing and organic, borderless, it's like time melts away. Last episode felt a little too clunky, broken up, and "staged" and deliberate by comparison for some reason.

Am I crazy or did it feel like compared to season 1 they kinda censored the romance scenes. Like the kiss to give Vanitas water was shown as a shadow on the wall. Completely different from the very bold scenes of blood sucking from the first season.

no,it's not censored.that scene was littraly same to same in manga and by far this is the best adaptation of the manga u can get so don't worry.

Vanitas without the book is still an ex-chasseur who was able to hold off Astolfo, a paladin. And even though Astolfo was just fighting with blind rage, he was still on enhancement drugs while Vanitas was not.

Funny how in the middle of a blizzard we got the hottest scene so far.

On another note, I'm a little bit confused regarding their location in time. Did they travel back in time when they entered Gévaudan or are they all in the present? Something related to that was mentioned during the last episode but with Jeanne's backstory I'm mixed up again.

They did question whether or not they had traveled back in time, since they saw soldiers from the 18th (?) century. If I remember correctly (and Bones animates it) we will get an explanation on it later. However, it is not clear at the present time.

I don't know if anyone else noticed/realized but...why did Vanitas' hourglass earring disappear after he "recovered"?
Was that on purpose or the animation/studio botched up?

AHHHhhh it was bugging me for the rest of the episode!!

I was waiting for an explanation and/or seeing if it fell on the ground somewhere... but besides some camera angles that showed it was VERY OBVIOUSLY missing (they took the time to draw the "empty ear piercing" even) nothing.
